[STEAM] Star Wars: Galactic Racer looks too good to be a modern Star Wars title

We just got a much better look at Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and it looks every bit as hype-worthy as a great Star Wars game of old. I’m biased because I love the original Star Wars: Episode I Racer, but I’m willing to bet no one will remain indifferent to this.

looks ABSOLUTELY INSANE! The sights, the sounds, the brutal crashes… now THIS is pod racing!🔥🔥🔥 This is what we have been wanting for YEARS and it's almost finally here! (Releases October 6th!)

Please trust me on this one if you’re too young to have been there, but it’s just unbelievable to see a game that looks as good as the movie that originated all this. And we’re not just confined to the deserts of Tatooine. All the wildly varied environments look so good that I’m pretty sure I’ll be throwing some races to enjoy the vistas and take some screenshots. A tall order, really, as the sense of speed on this one looks incredibly addictive.

Galactic Racer even features a story mode—which is not exactly new in the “series”, as the PS2-exclusive sequel, Star Wars Racer Revenge, actually featured a story mode where we played as Sebulba. Again, a very bold choice, considering how Sebulba’s only “the best podracer” because he murders his opponents, but hey, I’m all about Star Wars trying new stuff.

This time around, the plot seems less related to revenge and more about just becoming the best racer in the galaxy. Even if the gameplay shows a lot of ramming opponents into the walls in what seems like very “life-defiant” ways. Surprisingly violent for a Star Wars game, but then again, I grew up on Star Wars Episode I Racer and Carmageddon, and I haven’t had a good title from either series in a while, so I’ll absolutely take it and say I was merely following orders from Sebulba.

Even though the wake of the Star Wars sequels has gotten a lot of people to think much more positively about the prequels, I maintain that the only really cool things to come out of those movies were the podracing scene from Episode 1 and the game they made about it. Yeah, ok, Duel of the Fates is also a great song. It’s just so weird to me that ever since the acquisition, Disney has been hellbent on trying to turn everything even remotely Star Wars into a product, but it took them them over 10 years to revive something so unanimously beloved by those who’ve experienced the old games, and with so much room to grow in the hearts of even people who don’t really much care for Star Wars.
