[STEAM] Destiny 2 gamers storm servers with Weasel errors, over 100,000 Steam players for final update

A bunch of Guardians trying to make their own fate have banded together to send a message: Destiny 2 is ending, and we are not happy about it.

Destiny 2’s final live-service update, Monument of Triumph, launched around a half hour ago and the game lists over 110,000 players. So many players logged on at the update’s launch, in fact, that it’s causing Weasel errors abound.

Seemingly as soon as the player counts hit critical mass, Weasel errors began flying and disconnecting players. Many are now currently unable to connect, putting a bittersweet damper on the mood.

But for players hoping to send a message, this one works, especially if the Weasel errors are due to the mass influx of gamers that Destiny 2 hasn’t seen since the launch of The Edge of Fate expansion last June. I would expect the numbers to climb throughout the day as more players are able to connect, especially tonight.

Funnily enough, SteamDB also went down shortly after I took the above screenshot. It seems like many are interested in just how many Guardians are playing the update’s launch. I fear it’s too late for it to save the franchise, but I admire the dedication of Guardians everywhere trying to show that they still love the game.

While waiting for the servers to stabilize, players can peruse the update patch notes that are tens of thousands of words long, highlighting a massive list of quality-of-life updates, including all sorts of buildcrafting, the return of the Director navigation map, and a lot more.

Destiny players have been loudly voicing their displeasure about the game coming to an end all across social media since the news came out, especially when it comes to spamming the live chats of this year’s Summer Game Fest, State of Play, XBOX Showcase, and even Nintendo Direct for some reason.

Many feel as though Destiny 2 is being sacrificed so Marathon can live on, and those players will be happy to know that the update today brought more players on Steam than Marathon’s top concurrent peak at its launch.
