Some gaming legends never die, whether it be due to their status in pop culture, or ongoing updates. The Witcher 3 seems to be a bit of both.

CD PROJEKT RED announced today that The Witcher 3 will be receiving a new, full-fledged expansion in 2027, a whopping dozen years after the original game launched way back on May 18, 2015, and it’ll be starring the legendary Geralt of Rivia.

Nothing else was teased about the new expansion other than it’s being co-developed with The Thaumaturge studio Fool’s Theory, and that more information is coming in “late summer.”

show very much, but I tried playing the original game many years ago and got put off by how aged it felt. I imagine that wouldn’t change now, but I’m stoked for all of the fans of the franchise who get something new this many years later.

I guess this year is as good a time as any to catch up on The Witcher 3 in time for Songs of the Past in 2027, in preparation for The Witcher 4 starring Ciri some time after that.
