[STEAM] DBD’s Jason Voorhees is an omnipresent evil and turns the very game against survivors

Now that we know Jason Voorhees of Friday the 13th is finally coming to the game, Dead by Daylight‘s devs shared some exciting new information regarding this menacing killer. He is going to be just as much of an omnipresent evil as his movie counterpart, able to turn the very maps of DBD against the survivors.

As you all know, Jason Voorhees is evil incarnate. An undead revenant hell-bent on slaughtering anyone who dares stand in his path. Even when you think you’ve bested him and buried him six feet deep, he finds a way to come back and strike from the shadows. In Dead by Daylight, Jason retains this menacing, stalking, omnipresent nature through his power, also aptly named Omnipresent Evil.

This power, i.e., the first part of his power, is “a stealth-based ability that encapsulates the Killer’s knack for popping up in unexpected places to catch his victims off guard,” the devs explained.

I predict total ki ki ki ma ma ma. Image via BHVR While Omnipresent Evil is active, Jason disappears completely and starts moving at an increased pace, much like the Spirit or the Wraith. He cannot see survivors but can use footsteps to predict their movements and reappear at the right location. Speaking of which, Jason can only reappear at strategic locations—pallets, windows, and breakable walls—coming out of stealth suddenly and bombastically, causing survivors to scream while things break around him.

As opposed to other killers who go invisible, Jason’s Omnipresent Evil renders him entirely undetectable. He has no Spirit whispers, nor does he appear as a faint semi-translucent silhouette like the Wraith, meaning he can just disappear right behind you while you have no clue where he’ll pounce from.

The other half of his power is called Improvised Carnage, and it’s genuinely some of the most interesting stuff I’ve seen with a killer in a long while. Instead of having an inherent ability that lets him do damage from a distance, Jason can get creative and start using what he finds around the map to his advantage. Throughout the level, Jason can find boxes filled with broken generator parts, locker splinters, and even hooks.

He can then throw these items at survivors to deal damage, only replenishing them once he enters Omnipresent Evil. Each item has to be individually picked up as well, meaning he doesn’t have an infinite supply of every different item at all times.

While regular ranged hits are central to this ability, they can also interact with the environment for additional effect. For example, throwing an item at a survivor near a wall can pin them to it, incapacitating them completely until Jason walks up to get them.

To me, he seems to be one of the most interesting killers in the game, with the potential of becoming the ultimate slasher figure in Dead by Daylight. That’s going to be tough, though, as we’ll have the whole iconic roster in the game when he comes out.

Either way, you’ll be able to try him out in DBD‘s PTB starting May 26, while the full release is expected on June 16.
