channel just released the latest in a long line of cozy animated specials tailor-made to hit Pokémon fans right in the feels. These specials usually spotlight one Pokémon in particular, and this time around, the star of the show is Dragonite.

Dragonite and the Special Delivery premiered on Pokémon Day 2025, but English-speaking Pokémon fans are only just getting to experience it. At a crisp fifteen minutes, the short is a delightfully fun and unflinchingly sincere character study that reminds us dreams are worth chasing and any Pokémon can be someone’s favorite.

Crafted by CoMix Wave Films, the studio behind Your Name, Dragonite and the Special Delivery tells the tale of Hana, a mail carrier. Inspired to pursue a career in mail after a fateful encounter with a mail-carrying Dragonite, a long stint in the mailroom has quenched Hana’s once-burning passion. But when she finds a mysterious letter with a missing address, Hana sets off to see the lost letter to its destination, accompanied by her faithful Fuecoco and the same Dragonite she met so long ago.

I won’t dare spoil too much, but trust me when I say Dragonite and the Special Delivery is an adventure every Pokémon fan should tune into. Following in the footsteps of Pokémon Horizons, Special Delivery explores the more casual side of the Pokémon/human dynamic, showing how people and Pokémon interact outside of battle. Hana isn’t trying to become a Pokémon Master; she wants to deliver mail, and her Pokémon companions share this conviction and support her dream. There’s no high-octane Pokémon battles here, and that’s why it’s good.

Special Delivery‘s thrust comes from the intimacy of its story. Hana’s sincere desire to help people communicate and her unfailing determination are incredibly endearing, and her relationships with Fuecoco and Dragonite give both qualities a chance to shine. Her struggle with burnout and disillusionment is equally engaging (and disturbingly relatable), giving her journey an emotional weight that more than makes up for the lack of action.

Speaking of Dragonite, one cannot downplay Kanto’s resident Dragon-type role in Special Delivery. It’s no secret that

, but Special Delivery shows the Dragon Pokémon at its best. Dragonite is a perplexing contradiction of a Pokémon; a seven-foot-tall dragon with a round, squishy face, and Special Delivery captures that juxtaposition well. Endearing and imposing at once, the Dragon Pokémon has an aura unlike any other Pokémon, and by Special Delivery‘s end, I understood why Hana admires it so much.

Dragonite and the Special Delivery is the perfect example of what happens when a Pokémon special pumps the brakes on action and shows what everyday life looks like for people and Pokémon. If you haven’t seen it already, give it a watch.
