Following Sony's footsteps, Nintendo increased the prices for its hardware, namely the Switch 2, bumping up the console by $50 across the board. Now, its president has offered a sincere apology to consumers, saying the company will make up for it by developing a "robust software lineup."

, the Japanese giant's president Shuntaro Furukawa apologized for the Switch 2's increased cost, with US prices going up by $50, with other regions also affected. Furukawa said Nintendo is well aware of the "inconvenience and trouble" that will be caused by the increase but that it had to be done in light of rising production costs. In fact, he noted that the increased prices do not account for every production cost that has arisen recently, implying the $50 was a conservative hike.

"We sincerely apologize to our customers for the considerable inconvenience and trouble this will cause. While we wanted to prioritize a wide adoption, it was challenging to bear the rising costs over a long *******. The [new] pricing does not fully account for all cost increases," Frukawa said.

The Switch 2 is one of the fastest-selling consoles on the market. Screenshot by Destructoid Nintendo is predicting that fewer Switch 2 consoles will sell in the coming year compared to the last, since 2025 saw "unprecedented" demand from consumers. Naturally, I have a feeling that the company is also accounting for fewer people wanting to dish out the extra cash for a Switch 2 console, seeing as

compared to the same ******* last year.

As AI continues to pose a problem for anyone developing any sort of hardware that uses memory or GPUs (basically everyone), we should brace for more and more of such price increases across the board. Phones, TVs, and any other smaller devices, alongside PC hardware and consoles, are all going to become pricier and more challenging to purchase, since all of the necessary parts are going to AI data centers instead.

And as far as the situation of the "bubble" is concerned, it's not going away any time soon, and even if it does, a lot of big AI players are still going to remain. Many manufacturers are betting on the bubble bursting at some point and not dedicating themselves to building more factories, most of which need years and billions to start production. So, we're in a chokehold at the moment, and all I can say is that you'd better have purchased all you need for the foreseeable future.

It can only get worse.
