to increase the Switch 2's price as the company was selling it at a loss. Following suit with both the PS5 and Xbox consoles, Nintendo will now sell the handheld console hybrid at a higher price about a year into its lifespan.

The change will take effect in Japan on May 25, but the good news (trying to find any silver lining I can) is that the other regions won't have the price hike until Sept. 1, so you have a little less than four months to grab a Switch 2 if you haven't already and want it at its current price.

Nintendo Switch Online is also increasing in price in Japan, and the rest of the world has been spared that change thus far. But would anyone be surprised by that coming elsewhere soon? Prices have been going in the wrong way for the past couple of years across gaming, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

"We sincerely apologize for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders, and we deeply appreciate your understanding," Nintendo said in a statement.

The Switch 2 got off to a hot start last year and there have been several successful titles launched since, including Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Pokemon Pokopia. But with the world in turmoil and RAM shortages creating issues across the tech world, the price increases announced today felt inevitable.
