Once a long time ago death was the end, the final stop of the journey of a lifetime. Granted, some of those lifetimes could have been longer or gone better, but the progression was you're born, you live, you die, The End. And then isekai came along, which is basically a giant soul-recycling process wherein everyone and their dog gets another chance, except this time with the potential to be deeply overpowered in a fantasy world. The overworked, underappreciated, betrayed, and of course those inevitably meeting with truck-kun all contribute to providing emigres to billions of alternate worlds, where Earth souls run amok with the full memories of their former lives and a resolve to do better this time, no matter what challenges may rise. Even if that challenge is living next door to a noisy ******-lord neighbor.
