Image via Kepler Interactive The BAFTA can be viewed as the final jewel on Sandfall's crown, as the studio has thus far received all the other major Game of the Year accolades that one could possibly get: Golden Joysticks, The Game Awards, D.I.C.E. Awards, Game Developers' Choice Awards, and, now, a BAFTA. Every ceremony worth anything in the gaming sphere has recognized Clair Obscur's impeccable approach to art and design, as well as its innovative take on JRPGs, which has breathed new life into the genre among Western audiences.

And what's most important to always keep saying is that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an independent game, created by a small group of dedicated developers who were driven first by art and a desire to express themselves. Not a solo-dev adventure that took over the world, but a notable example of a non-corporate group of developers achieving what even the biggest AAA studios failed to do in recent years.

Indies are now the driving force behind video games, and without them, the industry would be less than an empty husk, dried and crumbled under the pressure of constant monetization and retention tactics that never had the player in mind, only pockets. And we have Clair Obscur, among other games, to thank for that.
