The ****** took place shortly before 5 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-64 at mile marker 89, police said. Police said a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup was headed westbound when it reportedly rear-ended a 2023 Hyundai Palisade. The pickup switched lanes and was hit by a 2022 Freightliner M2, police said. The pickup then struck a guardrail and overturned. The driver of the pickup, Noah D. Cappuzzo, 43, of Staunton, was seriously injured in the ****** and flown to UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville. Charges are pending against Cappuzzo, according to police. The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured. The ****** ******** under investigation. Court records show Cappuzzo was convicted two times in 2023 for driving with a suspended or revoked license, along with a third conviction last year for driving without a license.
