An elderly man has ***** in hospital more than a week after allegedly being attacked, and his accused assailant is now charged with *******.

Police were called to Ashfield in Sydney’s west just before midday on September 29 to find a 76-year-old man had been allegedly assaulted by another man.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

A 58-year-old man was arrested at a shopping mall and charged on Friday with reckless grievous bodily harm and resisting arrest, and refused bail.

The elderly man ***** in hospital on Thursday, 12 days after being admitted, NSW Police said.

The 58-year-old’s charges have now been upgraded to ******* and he is set to face court on October 23.
