AFL Trades: Jack Darling farewells West Coast Eagles after trade to North Melbourne

West Coast forward Jack Darling has made an emotional thank you to the Eagles after his time in blue and gold came to an end on Monday.

The 298-game goal-kicker was traded to North Melbourne for pick 67 in the second deal of the 2024 trade ******* upon the veteran’s request.

The move appears to be beneficial for the club and player, with West Coast clearing the 32-year-old’s salary, which sits around $800,000 per season, while the Kangaroos gain invaluable experience to add to their forward line and Darling extends his career with a longer contract.

Darling, who has kicked 532 goals, took to

to thank both clubs and his teammates, who he called his “brothers”.

“14 years, 298 games and the ultimate in 2018. I’ll always be thankful to the Eagles for taking a chance on me in 2010, and everything they have done for me from that day forward,” he wrote.

“I love the boys, I love the club and I will cherish each time I was lucky enough to play for West Coast alongside some of the greatest men of the game.

“To my teammates, you’re my brothers, I’ll forever be grateful. Thank you to the fans for supporting me and my family for helping me achieve what has been a dream come true, the dream isn’t over yet.“So now, for the Darling family, it’s time for an exciting new chapter. I’m excited to become a part of the North Melbourne footy club and see what we can achieve in the next few years.

“I’m looking forward to the next part of my journey, getting to work and doing my bit to help the team. Bring on season 2025. Kanga Kanga Kanga Roo Roo Roo.”

The words were accompanied by a series of photos from his time with the club, including with his family, after the triumphant 2018 decider and with his great mates.

Darling fell out of favour in 2024 as West Coast undertake the most extensive rebuild in club history.

However, he departs the club with the second-most games and goals in Eagles’ history.
