Japan Open: Jack Draper reaches quarter-finals with straight-set win over Hubert Hurkacz

British number one Jack Draper progressed to the Japan Open quarter-finals with a straight-set victory over number two seed Hubert Hurkacz.

The unseeded 22-year-old, who reached the US Open semi-finals earlier this month, took 84 minutes to beet the Pole 6-2 6-4 in Tokyo.

Draper won two of seven break point opportunities and saved three of his own.

The victory was the world number 20’s third against a top-10 opponent in 2024 – his most in a single season.

He will next play the winner of the match between France’s Ugo Humbert and America’ s Brandon Nakashima.

Hurkacz’s exit means five of the eight seeded players have been knocked out, with Taylor ******, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Frances Tiafoe losing in the first round.

Elsewhere, America’s Ben Shelton beat Argentina’s Mariano Navone 6-4 6-3 to also book a quarter-final spot.
