A DC vs Mortal Kombat Movie Featuring Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman Was Shot Down by WB

It is not a rare sight to see video games often collaborating with cinematic and other similar franchises that focus on a similar genre in order to entertain a larger audience. The same was the case when an unexpected collaboration between Mortal Kombat and DC came back in 2008, leaving fans shocked but glad as they enjoyed fighting against some of the most known superheroes.

What would have made such collaboration even better would be an animated movie, which is something that was actually pitched to Warner Bros, or WB as they own the copyright and trademarks to the superheroes. This was unfortunately shot down, depriving fans of what could have been a great experience watching the movie.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (2008) featured iconic characters from both universes.

The 2008 collaboration between the two franchises was a success, and it would only make sense to further monetize the hype by creating an animated feature film featuring both of the universes. This idea was pitched by Jeremy Adams, the writer for all the other MK animated films yet, who revealed via

what happened to the crossover-

“I would lower your expectations. I don’t know if they have any plans to do more. I do know that we pitched that a while ago, but it was kind of rebuffed. – Well, I think at the end of the day, I don’t know if they’re ever going to do any more. I hope they do, and I hope they call me to be involved. That would be great because I really love it. But I don’t know. I don’t know. I think it would be really cool though. Trust me, I would love to see a DC Mortal Kombat. That would be super, super cool.”

The writer disclosed how the studio did not seem keen to produce another crossover between the franchises when he pitched the idea. He however wishes, that if they one day change their minds then they should call him to help with the production as he would love it and finds it cool.

If the studio decided to go with the idea nonetheless, then there should not be much problem blending the two franchises. Not only the previously mentioned title, but other MK installments too have included characters from the DC Universe, including The Joker and The Poison Ivy as well as Peacemaker from the DC Extended Universe.

Bearing in mind how the writing should not be much of a problem and how the fans demand the movie, it should not be a tough call for the studio to make. However, one should not harbor hopes just yet as WB has yet to acknowledge the possibility of making such a movie.
