When Rockingham hairdresser Elle Tumelty gave regular clients the option to pay off their cut in weekly instalments, she wasn’t sure what kind of response to expect.

Almost immediately she had 120 people signed up for a subscription designed to take the sting out of a service regarded by some as essential and by others as a luxury — and one that is becoming increasingly expensive.
