Fiery truck ****** ties up I-86 traffic in Horseheads for several hours. What happened?

If you were driving in the Horseheads area early Tuesday morning, you might have seen a lot of thick smoke and maybe some flames.

You also might have had to deal with detours and delays if you were using Interstate 86 throughout the day.

Around 6:15 a.m., a tractor trailer traveling east on I-86 struck a guardrail on the south shoulder of the roadway, causing the operator to lose control, according to the Village of Horseheads Police Department.

The rig ultimately came to a stop obstructing both eastbound lanes and then caught on *****, police said.

No other vehicles were involved in the ****** and there were no hazardous materials involved.

The truck driver was the only occupant of the Central Transport LLC tractor trailer. He sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Guthrie Corning Hospital for treatment.

Potential traffic charges are pending further investigation into the ******, police said.

It was mid-afternoon before all the wreckage was removed and interstate traffic was able to flow normally again.

Horseheads police were assisted at the scene by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Elmira Heights police, the Town and Country, Elmira Heights, Big Flats, Millport, Breesport, Corning and Village of Horseheads ***** departments, New York State Department of Transportation, Dave’s Towing and B & W Towing.
