Melville incident: Child hit by car near Canning Highway, Rome Road, rushed to hospital

A child has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a car on Canning Highway.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene around 2.30pm on Sunday, after a girl is believed to have collided with a car near the intersection of Canning Highway and Rome Road in Melville.

While the circumstances of the incident are not confirmed, it is believed the child walked onto the road before they were hit by a vehicle.

St John WA said the child — who is aged over 5 —received serious, not life-threatening injuries.

It is understood these injuries include grazes.

The child has since been admitted to Perth Children’s Hospital, arriving just after 3pm.

Police temporarily closed Canning Highway, heading west, while emergency services were on scene.
