Most in-demand trades: Finishing skills labelled new pressure point of WA construction sector labour shortages

WA has little hope of getting on top of its building backlog experts say, with demand for specialised “finishing trades” such as tiling and cabinet making so high that they estimate the State needs at least 120,000 skilled tradies in the next decade just to keep up.

With competition for skills from the mining and infrastructure sectors still white-hot, construction workers are still desperately needed, particularly those towards the end of a build — like plastering, carpentry, and painting.
