Lions inactives: DT DJ Reader, S Ifeatu Melifonwu, DB Loren Strickland, Edge James Houston, LB Trevor Nowaske, OL Giovanni Manu, OL Colby Sorsdal.

Reader (quad) has been practicing the last few weeks in hopes of a Week 1 debut, but head coach Dan Campbell said the Lions were always targeting a Week 2 debut against the Buccaneers. Detroit’s big free agency signing will have to wait another week before he suits up. Expect to see lots of snaps for DTs Levi Onwuzurike and Kyle Peko, who was elevated from the practice squad.

Additionally, Melifonwu isn’t able to go. He’s dealing with an ankle injury, one that Campbell said could prevent him from playing this weekend. The Lions also made Houston inactive, which is a bit of a surprise considering his ability to get to the quarterback, but that could mean we see more of UDFA Isaac Ukwu as a pass-rush option.
