Hakea Prison ******: Inmate ***** in custody on Monday, reports suggest ‘no suspicious circumstances’

A 51-year-old man ***** at Hakea Prison on Monday night.

Staff at the Canning Vale facility administered first-aid after finding the man unresponsive in his cell at 5.40pm.

Three ambulances were dispatched to the prison before the man was transferred to Fiona Stanley Hospital, arriving at 6.45pm.

He was unable to be revived.

A spokesperson for the Department of Justice said initial reports suggested there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s ******.

“As is mandatory for deaths in custody, WA Police are investigating and will prepare a report for the State Coroner.”

The man’s ****** comes less than a week after a 17-year-old boy fatally self-harmed at Banksia Hill Detention Centre last Thursday.
