Nominate now for Greater Geraldton 2025 Community Citizen of the Year Awards to be handed out on Australia Day

Local heroes and unsung community contributors can be recognised for their work, with nominations now open for the 2025 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

Locals in Geraldton and Mullewa can celebrate their worthy peers for their outstanding contribution to the community by putting them forward for the Auspire — Australia Day Council WA, Community Citizen of the Year Award.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune urged people to nominate.

“We have seen through the immense popularity of the Local Legends social media campaign that Greater Geraldton is full of wonderful people doing good work,” he said.

“The Community Citizen of the Year Awards is a fantastic way to really shine the spotlight on these people.”

Categories include Community Citizen of the Year, Young Community Citizen of the Year (under 25), Senior Community Citizen of the Year (over 65) and Active Citizenship (group or event).

Manager of Wandina Playgroup and Geraldton Toy Library Kiara Jones was named 2024 community citizen of the year for her advocacy of early childhood education, while Chapman River Friends took home the active citizenship award.

Yvonne Lovedee from Geraldton Multicultural Association won senior community citizen of the year, and Sabine Angelatos was the recipient of the young citizen of the year award, for her work in the water polo and surf lifesaving scenes.

“Head to the official website at and put forward a local legend today,” Mr Clune said.

The awards will take place at the Australia Day events in Geraldton and Mullewa on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

Nominations close on Thursday, October 31.
