Hideaki Itsuno has announced his departure from Capcom after a remarkable 30-year career. His first impact came within the fighting game genre. He directed games like Power Stone and Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001, both of which furthered his reputation at the time.

But it was in the action-adventure genre where Itsuno truly left his mark. He took over the troubled development of ****** May Cry 2 and steered the series back on course. His subsequent work on ****** May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening and its special edition set new standards for stylish action games.

This is devastating. I was hoping for ****** May Cry 6 with you at the helm. However, your work at Capcom is responsible for creating work that guided me through some of the toughest years of my life and I’m very grateful for you.

Itsuno’s influence extended beyond ****** May Cry, as he also played a pivotal role in the creation of Dragon’s Dogma. Released in 2012, the game wasn’t received very well but grew in stature over the years. This eventually led to the release of its sequel, Dragon’s Dogma 2, earlier this year.
