Geraldton foreshore hosts national Austin-Healey rally to celebrate vintage cars

Car enthusiasts from across the country gathered in Geraldton on Friday for its part in the Austin-Healey Club’s national rally.

More than 50 Austin-Healey cars parked on the Geraldton foreshore, with hundreds of onlookers popping in and out to get a look at the vintage vehicles.

The British sports car was produced in the 1950s and 1960s and has been earmarked by collectors for its reliability as an everyday car despite its age.

Owners travelled from all parts of Australia to attend the national rally, with Queensland, Victoria, and NSW among those represented.

Geoff Chivers travelled from Bundaberg in Queensland to attend the event after buying his Austin-Healey two years ago.

He said he had always had an interest in cars but committed to buying one after several years of discussion.

“It’s the quintessential British sports car,” he said.

“I just loved the idea of having something you can still use on an everyday basis; they’re lovely cars to drive.

“The roof down, the wind in your hair and the looks you get from people passing by just isn’t something you see in modern cars.”

According to Mr Chivers, his car featured in the *********** TV series Ms Fisher’s Modern ******* Mysteries.

He said he enjoyed the camaraderie the event created, with everyone gathering to discuss a common interest.

The vehicles can range in price, with some going for more than $150,000.
