Concord is a brand-new competitive 5v5 shooter debuting from PlayStation first-party developer Firewalk Studios. The game was initially announced way back at the 2023 PlayStation Showcase and received a way more in-depth look at the May 2024 State of Play. Even after the game’s release, it has ******* to move the needle in terms of player interest. The gaming community believes that the shooter is an unoriginal and boring game that should’ve never hit the shelves. However, a select few believe that if Sony brought the hero shooter formula to its Killzone franchise, it would’ve been a phenomenal success. The Concord Formula Needed a Strong Franchise Support The Killzone franchise is one of Sony’s most divisive IPs and one that many easily forgot about after the launch of Guerilla’s smash-hit Horizon series. It was originally created as a countermove to Xbox’s Halo and managed to garner a cult-like following among gamers. PlayStation’s new shooter, Concord, appears to be off to a horrendous start on Steam, with less than 700 concurrent players experiencing the title on launch day. The gaming community believes Sony has dropped the ball quite hard, and it’s going to be a long while before they are able to regain player trust. Sony is going to need a PlayStation showcase just to undo what they did with Concord. I don’t think I’ve ever seen PlayStation embarrass themselves so badly before. I really hope they learned something from this. Concord lacks a soul and doesn’t really connect with players in any way like Sony’s other iconic IPs. Well maybe things would habe turned out better if Concord was Killzone, Socom or resistance instead of a generic hero shooter — Sonic Knight 20 (@S0nicKnight20) This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up Expand Tweet The possibilities are endless with a Killzone game adapting the hero-shooter formula. It could’ve separated itself from the competition by leveraging the franchise’s dark, dystopian atmospheres and bending it with its iconic characters. Each hero would have represented a different faction in the game’s universe, offering abilities tied to their combat style and faction technology. The fusion of such a legendary series with modern-day shooter elements would have certainly created a distinct experience that gamers would’ve loved to experience. Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely Sony will ever ***** into the genre again. The Shooter Was in Development For 8 Years data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///ywAAAAAAQABAAACAUwAOw==This brand-new shooter was in development for years. (Image via Sony) You’ll be surprised to know that, according to game developer Jon Weisnewski, the shooter has been developed for around eight years. To celebrate the release of the title, Weisnewski expressed his excitement about the team’s hard work finally debuting. Out of the eight years the title has been in development, Weisnewski was there for five. Continuing to share his excitement, the developer stated in a containing X/ This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up threat his appreciation for the chance to work in a creative environment with fellow developers. It has certainly impacted the game’s launch, but the developers can still bounce back by switching to a free-to-play formula and bringing quality updates to the game.
