It’s easy to be cynical about big infrastructure projects that governments announce. Often they seem far-fetched, fantastical or are simply too costly, as anyone who’s followed the various proposals over four decades for a very fast train linking Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane can attest.

But right here in our own backyard is one of the most genuinely exciting proposals for the city in many years. And unlike many projects, this has the potential to change the entire Perth metropolitan area, not just the central business district.
