But some, like The Suffering series, went a bit under the radar, but not due to a lack of quality across both games in the franchise. Released on the PlayStation 2, both games offered a unique story, distinct from those of others in the genre. It also did something pretty unique in the space: it gave the player agency. If all of this sounds good to you, then you might want to move fast, as the game may not be as easily available soon. Class Action Horror Series The Suffering to be Delisted on GOG The PlayStation 2, arguably one of the most popular consoles in gaming history, allowed us to enjoy several games in the horror genre that we speak of to date. Resident Evil and Fatal Frame are some that come to mind that brought us scares in new ways. The Suffering series took a more action-oriented approach that made it stand out from the rest. You play as Torque, a ****** row ********* who has to ****** off supernatural forces that appear in his prison after an earthquake strikes the facility. Through the game, the player can deal with threats using weapons, a feature that games like the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake aim to take away. The sequel doubled down on this formula and added to what made the first game so much fun. At the time of release, some considered the focus on action to be a point against the games. But the titles were well received, and the dark story with its heavy moral implications made it an interesting experience. So, when it was recently announced that the game might be delisted from GOG, some fans were a bit disappointed with the news. That’s a ***** shame. — Angel With The Scabbed Wings (@TaigasRevenge) This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up So, if you want to try out this title before it’s gone from another service and is likely to never get a remake or remaster, then you have just a few days to add it to your library. Earlier games used to pull out all the stops, such as Siren: Blood Curse’s dual-perspective ability or even breaking the fourth wall to deliver a scare. One would think modern technology would allow developers to push the envelope further, but we don’t seem to be getting that. The upcoming A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead has a lot of potential in this regard. With the premise of the game’s universe being to stay as quiet as possible, the developer has the choice to add some innovations. Many hope the title will be able use sounds picked up by system mics. Horror is one of the most popular genres in gaming, and the indie space has been buzzing with activity for a while now. Many of these indie titles have been going against the norm of what we have come to expect, and we can only hope major studios follow suit and also think outside the box.
