The PlayStation 3 had some absolute gems when it came to the horror franchise. ***** Space 2, The Evil Within, Alien Isolation, and Siren Blood Curse. The last on the list may be the more obscure among them, but it was able to bring some innovations to the genre that even the ******* names didn’t achieve.

Sadly, it is very likely to be lost to time as there are no remasters or remakes planned. In fact, not many people even know about the game or the team behind it. But, for fans of horror games, it would be a shame to miss it for the scares and laughs it offers.

It’s a fine line between making something scary and funny, and while Siren Blood Curse doesn’t always stick to this line, it tries its best.

Real-life instances of body horror occur, but they are more focused in the medical field. Recently, X-ray scans of a person’s legs have been floating around the internet. These scans claim to show the persons insides infested by the egg sacs of parasitic worms.

Encountering such an event would be right at home in games such as the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake or the aforementioned Siren Blood Curse. The reason behind this event is that the person would routinely eat raw pork, which led to them ingesting tapeworm eggs and developing an infection called cysticercosis.

Siren Blood Curse, while it didn’t need the enemies to consume raw pork, also featured parasitic entities and insects. Some of the enemies the player faces even sprout wings or look exactly like a maggot. Called the Shibito, the game used them to create some good scares, even if some were a bit comical.

Aside from the much-awaited Silent Hill 2 remake, gamers are going to have to choose between Until Dawn, Post Trauma, and A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead. All four have promising trailers out right now, so it’s going to be difficult to choose.

While the remake by Bloober Team is undeniably the biggest launch, Raw Fury’s Post Trauma is taking an interesting artistic approach to the genre. Players will get to control different characters, each with their own perspective, as they explore a facility that seemingly has a malevolent mind of its own.

As technology advances, horror titles are also able to offer scares in unique ways. Many hope the upcoming A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead will be able to tap into your system’s mic and pick up on sounds to add to the challenge. It won’t be the first horror game to do that, but it would fit in perfectly with the premise of the universe.
