The Last of Us Dev Naughty Dog’s Next Game Could Be a Huge Deviation From What Neil Druckmann and Co Have Given Us Before

The Last of Us was a massive success for Sony Interactive Entertainment and forever changed how single-player video games were perceived. It was only a matter of time before the developers presented a new IP, and a recent job listing gave fans a hint of what it might be.

The fans fell in love with the apocalyptic and dystopian scenery, paired with the endearing performances of talented actors. However, the sequel was too ambitious and was not well received by many players, which could encourage the developers to look from a different perspective.

The Last of Us Developers Potentially Ditching the Traditional Third-Person Point of View

Sony Interactive Entertainment has continuously delighted the gaming community with an unwavering stream of top-notch first-party exclusive titles for the PlayStation consoles.

Unfortunately, the developers of The Last of Us have fallen into a pit of creativity and had no output for the PlayStation 5 console, which has given fans enough reason to worry about the studio’s future.

There have been suspicions within the gaming community that the studio’s next major project is a new IP. Director Neil Druckmann’s recent interview was heavily edited by Sony and later removed. Some fans suspect this was a deliberate move to generate hype for the director’s next project. However, it seems to have caused more harm than good.

According to a recent job listing, Naughty Dog might make a few questionable creative changes in its next project. The developers were well-known for creating games with a third-person perspective, and shifting to a first-person perspective could shake up the formula and appeal to players by offering a different point of view to play the game.

After the fourth anniversary of the controversial sequel, the director hinted at the possibility of another game to wrap up the trilogy.

This coincides with the subtle tease by the end of the Grounded 2 documentary, and given the massive success of the franchise, it would be an interesting move for Sony to deny Druckmann the opportunity to develop another adventure while working on something new.

The studio is renowned for creating visually stunning worlds that can be easily mistaken for real life. Perhaps the first-person perspective will allow the game developers to prioritize the visuals and story over the gameplay.

It was not long ago when a casting call was held and the gaming community was confident it was for a project related to The Last of Us, as some are still bitter over the cancelation of the ambitious online multiplayer title which could have been a spiritual successor to Factions. Perhaps the studio bit more than it could chew juggling multiple projects.

Regardless, rumors suggest that Druckmann’s next project is a new IP and could be a step in the right direction for the studio.

Shifting from third-person to first-person is a massive change. Not everyone will react the same once this new project is officially revealed.
