  1. United Airlines to return to JFK in new partnership with JetBlue United Airlines to return to JFK in new partnership with JetBlue United Airlines has a new friend in Queens. The airline is returning to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport again, this time through a partnership with JetBlue Airways. The partnership, called Blue Sky, will allow JetBlue customers to earn frequent flyer miles on United and vice versa. It also includes reciprocal loyalty benefits like priority boarding and roomier seats for travelers with elite status. Some aspects of the partnership, which the carriers announced Thursday, will begin as early as the fall, though the airlines didn’t provide exact timing. They also did not provide financial details of the deal. JetBlue’s leaders have long said they need a partnership to better compete against larger airlines like United and their shared rival Delta Air Lines. The new partnership stops short of the flight coordination that JetBlue had in its former alliance in the Northeast with American Airlines, which was struck down by a federal court on antitrust grounds two years ago. Last year, a judge blocked JetBlue’s plan to buy struggling budget carrier Spirit. “This collaboration with United is a bold step forward for the industry — one that brings together twocustomer-focused airlines to deliver more choices for travelers and value across our networks,” JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty said in a news release. Read more CNBC airline news United left JFK in 2015, and current CEO Scott Kirby has called that a mistake because moving transcontinental flights to Newark allowed American to win over some corporate clients. It briefly returned in 2021, thanks to a Covid-era lull in traffic at the airport, where capacity is normally tightly controlled by the Federal Aviation Administration. United left JFK again in 2022 because it wasn’t able to secure longer term slots there. Kirby has repeatedly said he wants the airline to return to JFK. The carrier has struggled in recent weeks with air-traffic staffing shortages and congestion at its Newark hub. Under the new agreement, United will be able to fly up to seven daily round-trip flights at congested Kennedy Airport, giving it more breadth in the New York City area, though the new operation will still be dwarfed by United’s main hub in the area at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. United’s JFK flights will begin in 2027 at the earliest, the carriers said. JetBlue, meanwhile, will get eight flights at Newark. United didn’t say which routes it plans to operate at JFK, though its last foray was for service to Los Angeles and San Francisco. They airlines called the swap a “net neutral exchange.” Source link #United #Airlines #return #JFK #partnership #JetBlue Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
2. New update for Windows 11 24H2 is the most feature-packed for some time, delivering some seriously useful additions New update for Windows 11 24H2 is the most feature-packed for some time, delivering some seriously useful additions There’s a new update out for Windows 11 24H2 in preview It offers a whole load of features, albeit some are Copilot+ PC exclusives New abilities include a supercharged search in Settings, cross-device resume with OneDrive files, useful new HDR options and much more Windows 11 version 24H2 is set to receive a towering pile of new features soon, and they’re already out in an optional patch for those who want to test the waters early. The preview update for May (picked up by Neowin) will become the full June patch next month, and it comes with some changes for Copilot+ PCs only, as well as plenty of goodies for those with a traditional Windows 11 PC. We’ll start with the latter, given that most folks still have a standard Windows 11 device, and an interesting addition for everyone with update KB5058499 is a new Cross Device Resume feature. You may like As Microsoft explains, you can now resume working on a OneDrive file on your PC if you were previously playing about with it on your smartphone (Android or iOS). Windows 11 will prompt you with a notification to check if you want to resume working on a file you were just using on your phone within the past five minutes, which is a nifty touch. There are improvements for those with an HDR display, too, with new options in Settings, including a better explanation of what enabling ‘Use HDR’ means, and a toggle to turn on Dolby Vision (or turn it off) independently of HDR. Windows 11 will also now stream HDR video in all its glory even if you have HDR turned off (for the OS environment, games and so forth). New share options (as previously seen in testing) now pop up when you drag a file out of a folder (in File Explorer), with suggested apps appearing in a tray at the top of the screen, so you can drop the file there to conveniently share it directly to any of those applications. Furthermore, when typing with Voice Access, you can now turn off the profanity filter, and in the Settings app, a FAQ has been implemented which tells you more about the spec of your PC and what it really means. (Putting some perspective on how good your graphics card is, or how the amount of system RAM you have might affect the performance of Windows 11). Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. Also worth noting is that Microsoft has reintroduced the ability to open Copilot with the Windows key + C shortcut as an alternative for those who don’t have a dedicated Copilot button. Also, if you hold that shortcut (or the Copilot button), you’ll invoke ‘Press to talk’ with the AI assistant, whereby you can use voice commands (if you have a mic). Copilot+ PC exclusives (Image credit: Microsoft) In the case of Copilot+ PCs, the May optional update goes to town with fresh features for Click to Do, the companion feature introduced with Recall that provides context-sensitive AI-related actions. That includes a new Ask Copilot option within the Click to Do menu that appears when an image or a block of text is selected, which opens the AI assistant with the highlighted content ready to go as a query. Also, the intelligent text actions which were previously only available with Snapdragon (Arm) Copilot+ PCs are now out for devices with AMD or Intel processors. This gives you options within Click to Do to quickly summarize or rewrite text (or turn it into a list), all of which is achieved using the AI powers built into Windows 11. (Specifically, this is the ‘Phi Silica’ Small Language Model, and it means that the work is done right on the device, not in the cloud). Microsoft has also made it so that those with a stylus can have the shortcut button on the pen open Click to Do (with either a single or double click), and it’s now possible to make the feature one of the four specified apps in the pen menu. Furthermore, Click to Do is now being made available in the European Economic Area, with all these fresh moves in tow. Finally, there’s a big move with Copilot+ PCs in the introduction of a supercharged search leveraging AI for the Settings app. You can type a natural language query in the Windows 11 search box on the taskbar to find any setting you want, such as ‘change my desktop wallpaper’ which will bring up the relevant part of the Settings app. Also with Narrator, the screen-reading tool built into Windows 11, AI now produces descriptions for images on web pages (or other content) where that alternative (alt) text hasn’t been provided. Analysis: A gradual rollout of nifty powers (Image credit: Future / Jasmine Mannan) Bear in mind that this is an optional update as noted, so if you grab this now, you may encounter bugs. Given that, the generally perceived wisdom is that most users will be better off waiting until the preview update becomes a full release, which will happen next month (on June 10 to be precise). If you can’t wait to test out some of these features, then jump on this upgrade by all means – you’ll find it by checking in Windows Update as usual. However, remember that these features are all labelled as having a gradual rollout, so it may take a bit of time for some of this functionality to filter through to your PC. In this case, that’s another reason to be patient and wait until June. There are some nifty powers here, certainly, and the changes to HDR, the hardware FAQ in Settings, and extra file-sharing options are all welcome. The supercharged search is a definite highlight, but that’s only for Copilot+ PCs, so most people won’t get that. Another noteworthy move is Cross Device Resume, which looks smartly implemented, and this is a space to watch because Microsoft is set to expand this ability in the future. We should see this become a much broader piece of work, allowing for all apps to be resumed in this way across your phone and PC eventually, not just OneDrive files. In short, this should be Microsoft’s equivalent to Apple’s Handoff feature, or at least that’s the theory based on weighty clues the company recently dropped (and swiftly retracted). 4. 3 viral ChatGPT prompts that will completely change the way you use and think about AI 3 viral ChatGPT prompts that will completely change the way you use and think about AI It’s a big ask, giving everyone access to incredibly powerful tools like ChatGPT or Gemini and expecting them to know exactly how to use them. Every day, we’re learning about new ways to interact and get the most from AI, and one Reddit user has found an excellent workflow that completely changes the way you think about artificial intelligence. These 3 easy prompts from Reddit user AIClarity will change the way you use ChatGPT, making you stop using it for tasks and instead use AI to think about problems and find solutions. The post has garnered lots of attention, with over 300 comments and nearly 4000 upvotes at the time of writing. You may like The Reddit user says this simple tweak, with these three specific prompts, has been “surprisingly effective,” creating a system that sticks and helps you keep on top of life in this hectic world. Here are the 3 prompts that will completely change the way you use and think about AI. 1. “Help me clarify what actually matters today.” Every morning, ask ChatGPT to “Help me clarify what actually matters today.” You’ll get a list of questions from AI that should prompt a conversation about what you need to tackle over the next few hours and break down what’s urgent and what can wait. I’ve found this particular prompt a huge help when starting my morning workflow as it helps me write down my focus, and makes journaling and planning that little bit more conversational. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. By using ChatGPT as a journal or thinking partner, you quickly see the benefits of AI, essentially giving you a blank canvas that helps rationalize life. 2. “Ask me 3 questions to help me reflect and reset.” At night, ask ChatGPT for “3 questions to help me reflect and reset.” Reflecting on the day is a core part of journaling, and implementing this into your conversation with ChatGPT feels like the evolved form of just writing in your notebook. I’ve really enjoyed conversing with AI about my successes and failures from each day; it’s given me a different viewpoint and helped me come to terms with challenges, allowing me to take those learnings into account for the next day. ChatGPT has a memory, so all of your answers from the morning and night combine to create an incredibly powerful tool that starts to learn how it can help you break through the noise and feel accomplished with your day. 3. “Challenge my assumptions about this.” This final prompt can be used any time you’re stuck on something. Ask ChatGPT to “Challenge my assumptions about this,” and start a conversation with AI that can help rewire the way you’re thinking about a particular problem. The Reddit user who came up with this effective 3-step strategy says that combining all three prompts has made a huge difference to their life. They said, “I’ve stopped starting my day in mental chaos, and end it with some actual clarity instead of doomscrolling. I’ve only been using these particular prompts for a day or two, but I’m already noticing an evolution in the way I use ChatGPT, and it’s not only proving to be effective, but it’s exciting feeling like my brain has broken through the mental cloud that can often appear when information is being thrown at you, left, right, and center. 5. Iran says it is investigating ‘missing’ Indian nationals en route to Australia Iran says it is investigating ‘missing’ Indian nationals en route to Australia The Iranian Embassy in India has said it is investigating the case of three Indian nationals who went missing in Tehran earlier this month. The men, all of whom are from the northern state of Punjab, had a stopover in Iran on 1 May, and were on their way to Australia, where they were promised lucrative jobs by a local travel agent. Their families allege that they were kidnapped upon their arrival by unknown men, who are now demanding a ransom of 5m rupees ($63,000; £47,000). On Thursday, the Iranian Embassy said on X that it was keeping Indian authorities informed of all developments “within the judicial system” and warned about the dangers of taking ******** immigration routes. “Given the nature of this incident, Indian citizens are strongly advised not to be deceived by the promises of unauthorised individuals or ******** Indian agencies offering travel to other countries,” it said. The statement came a day after the Indian embassy in Iran said that it had “strongly taken up this matter with Iranian authorities” and requested that the missing Indians be “urgently traced and their safety ensured”. Many Indians, particularly from Punjab, travel to developed countries in search of job opportunities and a better life. Some fall victim to scams run by travel agents, who charge exorbitant fees and send them through ******** or unsafe routes, often without proper documentation. Gurdeep Kaur recounted the events that led to her 23-year-old son Amritpal Singh going missing to BBC Punjabi. The family had hired a travel agent in Hoshiarpur – where they live – to secure an *********** work permit for her son. “Last month, the agent informed us that my son’s visa had been approved and asked for 1.8m rupees as payment,” she said. “They told us they had booked a flight from Delhi to Australia on 26 April. But when my son went there, they told him that his documents were still not ready.” The agent then told Amritpal that they had rebooked him on a flight for 29 April, but later claimed that even that ticket got cancelled. On 1 May, the agent put Amritpal, along with the two other men, on a flight to Iran, describing it as a stopover en route to Australia, Ms Kaur said. After landing, Amritpal called his mum to say that he had arrived safely and that a cab was on its way to take them to a hotel, before their next flight. But an hour later, Ms Kaur said her son called again, this time to say that he had been kidnapped. Before she could get any details, the call got cut abruptly and her son became unreachable. Ms Kaur said that the family tried to contact the three agents in Punjab – they first gave them “vague responses” and then went missing. The next day, the family found that their homes and offices were locked. Ms Kaur said they began receiving video calls from unknown men around the same time. On the call, Ms Kaur alleged the kidnappers would show Amritpal and the two other men held hostage inside a room. They had injuries all over their body from being beaten up, she alleged. At first, they demanded 20mn rupees but eventually reduced the amount, settling at 5.4m rupees, Ms Kaur said. “But it has been more than 10 days days since we last heard from them,” said Gurdev Singh, Amritpal’s uncle. The family has not paid any ransom till now. A police complaint has since been filed against the travel agents and an investigation is under way. “The search for the three men is on. They are on the run, but we are conducting searches,” Gursahib Singh, an officer with Hoshiarpur police, told BBC Punjabi. Meanwhile, around 150km (93 miles) away, in Dhuri village, the house of Husanpreet Singh, one of the other missing men, remains locked. He lived there with his maternal grandmother, who is now busy going door-to-door to her relatives, asking them for help. The Indian embassy in Tehran has said it was keeping the families informed of all developments. India has recently intensified its crackdown on travel agents involved in ******** immigration, particularly after hundreds of undocumented Indians were deported from the US after President Donald Trump took office for a second term. 6. Paraglider survives accidental 8000m-high flight Paraglider survives accidental 8000m-high flight A ******** paraglider has survived being accidentally propelled 8,500m (27,800ft) into the sky above north-west China, state media report. Peng Yujiang, 55, was testing new equipment at 3,000m above sea level, over the Qilian mountains, when a rare updraft or air current known as a “cloud *****” pulled him about 5,000m higher into a cloud formation. Saturday’s events were filmed on a camera that was mounted on Mr Peng’s glider and the footage has gone viral after being posted on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok. It showed Mr Peng holding on to the glider’s controls, with his face and much of his body covered in ice crystals. “It was terrifying… Everything was white. I couldn’t see any direction. Without the compass, I wouldn’t have known which way I was going. I thought I was flying straight, but in reality, I was spinning,” he told China Media Group. Mr Peng narrowly survived death as oxygen levels are thin at that altitude, which is slightly lower than the 8,849m peak of Mount Everest. Temperatures can also plummet to -40C. “I wanted to come down quickly, but I just couldn’t. I was lifted higher and higher until I was inside the cloud,” he said. Mr Peng, who has been paragliding for four-and-a-half years, said he might have lost consciousness during his descent, adding that the most frightening part of his ordeal was trying to regain control of the glider as it spiralled in the air. ******** authorities are investigating the incident and Mr Peng has been suspended for six months because the flight was unauthorised, state-run Global Times reported. Mr Peng had no intention to fly that day and was only testing the fit and comfort of his parachute on the ground, Global Times said. However, strong winds lifted him off the ground and grew even stronger, until he encountered the updraft that shot him up into the clouds. 8. Kurts Adams Rozentals: British canoeist ‘forced to choose between Olympics and OnlyFans’ Kurts Adams Rozentals: British canoeist ‘forced to choose between Olympics and OnlyFans’ Rozentals created his own OnlyFans account in January 2025 in order to help fund his training programme and he posts videos and pictures on his Instagram account to drive viewers towards the content. Each athlete on Paddle ***’s programme receives an annual grant of £16,000 to support their training. But Rozentals, who says he has earned over £100,000 since creating his OnlyFans account, says the programme’s funding is nowhere near enough. “I don’t know how much you need but it’s certainly not £16,000,” said Rozentals. “When you have to cover rent, cover travel, food and most athletes who train full-time are all living in London. “They’re very fortunate to have parent backing – I wasn’t. I never had the ability to move to London because of financial struggles so I was always doing the travel from the East Midlands, where I live, to London, back-and-forth, back-and-forth.” Rozentals, who won individual C1 silver at the World Under-23 Championships in 2023, is awaiting the outcome of the investigation. PaddleUK say Rozentals’ ban is not disciplinary action, but a “neutral act designed to protect all parties” and to “safeguard other athletes, staff, and volunteers due to the nature of the allegation.” The suspension was enabled via Paddle ***’s Athlete Disciplinary Policy, which lists “offensive use of social media” and “indecent, offensive or immoral behaviour” as examples of gross misconduct that could lead to de-selection. Asked if he will stop posting on OnlyFans in order to preserve his place on the programme, Rozentals says he should not have to choose between financial security and his Olympic dream. “This is the hardest decision that I’ve ever faced in my life,” said Rozentals. “I came to the realisation about why I started doing this last winter after years of struggle, years of living on the edge, my mum working 90 hours-a-week, having bailiffs at the door. “I’m going to find a way where we don’t have to struggle, where my mum can enjoy her life and I’m able to put everything into this sport because when you’re thinking about how to pay the rent this month and you’re standing at the start line, that’s not very conducive (to performing well). “It’s a tough decision but unless something changes in the way athletes are paid I don’t see a way of working with Paddle ***”. 9. Kingtow boss moons 7NEWS camera crew as he’s quizzed about costly fees Kingtow boss moons 7NEWS camera crew as he’s quizzed about costly fees The boss of a Perth tow truck company has dropped his pants and shown his rear end when confronted by 7NEWS about how he runs his business. “That’s what I think of you, c***,” Waldo Wessels said. WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: 7NEWS tracks down Kingtow boss in Sydney. Wessels is the 32-year-old owner and director of Kingtow Pty Ltd, which provides towing services in Perth and has garages in Osborne Park and Canning Vale. Wessels lives in Sydney’s southern suburbs, running the business over the phone. In recent months, dozens of Kingtow customers have come forward with complaints about enormous fees they have been charged for basic tows on cars with only very minor damage. Bills for $5,000 have been issued for short tows of just a few kilometres through suburban Perth. “That’s an insurance rate, industry practice mate,” Wessels, who says he runs a legitimate small family business, told 7NEWS in Sydney at the weekend. “We charge insurance companies, we’ve always been paid by insurance companies.” But lately insurance companies, including RACWA, have refused to pay Wessels’ bills and he has allegedly threatened to send debt collectors after the motorists themselves. “It’s horrible, I’ve never heard of this before, so how can it happen in Australia where I live? I love this country,” Kingtow customer Andy said. Kingtow charged Andy $5,400 after it towed his driveable car four kilometres from Innaloo to Osborne Park. Camera IconKingtow boss Waldo Wessels was confronted by 7NEWS in Sydney. Credit: 7NEWSCamera IconWessels said ‘That’s what I think of you’ as he pulled his pants down. Credit: 7NEWS A fortnight ago, Kingtow said it was still holding 50 cars belonging to RACWA claimants as part of an ongoing dispute. Neither Kingtow nor RACWA would update that figure this week. Kingtow buys details for towing jobs from third party accident management services. Motorists often phone those services’ 1800 numbers by mistake after Googling their insurer. When Andy’s insurer would not pay, Kingtow kept his car for two months until he coughed up the money himself. Dozens have stories just like Andy’s. Sometimes the fees are well above the value of the car, and often higher than the cost of repairs. In January, WA introduced a price cap of $485 on tows from the scene of a ******, which technically only applies to a 2km radius around the ****** site. The cap regularly does not apply after you have already driven home from a minor ******, which is when Kingtow often arrives. New regulations The WA government is planning to introduce two more stages of regulations on the towing industry but has no solid timeline on when. “We’re just getting the data in from the first part of the phase one, which is that ****** towing, and seeing what adaptions we need to make,” said Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport, Jessica Stojkovski. “I think the footage that you captured actually just demonstrates the type of people that we are dealing with in this industry, it shows that potentially they would not be a fit and proper person to operate under the next phase of the regulations” RACWA has declined to comment on specific cases. “Despite recent WA towing reforms which have brought important improvements, unfortunately there are unregulated spaces where we are continuing to see instances of unreasonable behaviour and practices by some towing operators,” an RACWA spokesperson said. Wessels has repeatedly accused 7NEWS of telling “lies” and running “unbalanced stories”. Kingtow statement Declining to answer detailed questions from 7NEWS, lawyers for Kingtow referred 7NEWS to a statement made by the company on May 16, 2025: “We can understand customers’ frustration when the RAC is saying they won’t pay for their car to be towed or released from a yard. We have fought for weeks for the RAC to change their stance, and they have now done so in respect of some of the vehicles. Thousands of small *********** businesses owners know the stress and frustration of larger and more powerful corporations withholding or delaying payment for services. Being made the scapegoat only makes it worse. • On 9th May 2025, RAC informed its insured clients that the customers would have to take steps to pay Kingtow themselves and then seek reimbursement from RAC. • They put the onus on those customers to retrieve their vehicles at their own time and cost and told them to keep any receipts • RAC did not say they would cover the costs but rather that: “Any request for reimbursement will be separately assessed by our claims team.” • This reflected a pattern recently where RAC began to make towing fees, yard or other charges and retrieval effectively a matter for the impacted customer and Kingtow. • In that instance we can understand why customers are unhappy with us – however we’ve had many more tell us they’re unhappy with the actions of their insurer. • This may explain why, on Tuesday 13th May 2025, RAC – suddenly settled a total of 20 invoices for towed vehicles held by us and we arranged the release of these vehicles immediately. • Where RAC have wrongly left their own insured clients to pay bills that should be covered by the insurance they pay we have reduced our tow fees considerably to assist clients with settling their invoices and getting their vehicles returned. • In some cases, we have waived the tow fee completely. We are a family run company that has complied with every regulation across the industry, that has been forced to engage lawyers to get RAC to pay out on claims and who have waived costs for customers impacted by their actions. RAC have used us as a convenient scapegoat and focus for the anger of some customers when the solution has been, is and will remain for them to – pay up on claims.” Source link #Kingtow #boss #moons #7NEWS #camera #crew #hes #quizzed #costly #fees Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

India factory fire footage misrepresented as Pakistan air strike India factory fire footage misrepresented as Pakistan air strike Pakistan launched counterattacks against India in early May after three of its air bases were hit, but footage published in several news reports does not show one of the strikes. The video depicts a fire that erupted in the northwestern Indian city of Hanumangarh. “Recent missile attacks have struck the Udhampur Airbase in Jammu and Kashmir. While Indian officials report limited damage and no operational losses, the incident underscores the escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan,” reads the caption of a Facebook reel shared May 10 by Pakistani news outlet The Express Tribune. The video, which has more than 3,000 engagements, shows large clouds of smoke billowing on the horizon. Fire trucks drive toward the fire as bystanders watch. Other Pakistani news outlets have shared similar posts on their social media pages, racking up thousands of views. Geo News published the video in a May 10 Instagram post, while Dawn News shared it on its verified YouTube channel. Social media users also shared the same video alongside similar claims thousands of times on X. Screenshot of an Instagram post taken May 22, 2025 Pakistan launched counterattacks against India on May 10 after three of its air bases were struck overnight in an escalation of the conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbours. Indian Wing Commander Vyomika Singh said the same day that there were “several high-speed missile attacks” on air bases, but “limited damage” to equipment (archived link). More than 70 people were killed in the four-day conflict between India and Pakistan, which was sparked by an attack on tourists by gunmen in Indian-administered Kashmir last month that New Delhi accused Islamabad of backing — a charge it denies (archived link). The military confrontation — which involved intense ****-for-tat drone, missile, aerial combat and artillery exchanges — came to an abrupt end after US President Donald Trump announced a surprise ceasefire. The video shared online is unrelated to the violence; it shows a fire at a chemical factory in Hanumangarh in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Keyword searches on Google led to similar footage that Indian media organisation NDTV published May 8 on YouTube (archived link). Another Indian outlet, ETV Bharat, also posted a video of the fire from a different angle (archived link). ETV Bharat reported that the blaze broke out at an acid factory in the industrial area of Hanumangarh Junction, killing two workers. Hindi script on one of the fire trucks seen in the footage shared online says “Firefighting Services Rajasthan.” The number plate of another fire truck also contains the sequence “RJ14”, with “RJ” representing the state of Rajasthan and “14” representing the city of Jaipur under India’s Regional Transport Office (archived link). Screenshot of fire trucks in the footage, with Hindi markings and the plate number highlighted by AFP Google Maps Street View imagery of the factory also matches the structure seen in the false posts (archived link). 13. Is Persona 4 Getting Remade? Yuri Lowenthal Hints Yes, but He’s Out Is Persona 4 Getting Remade? Yuri Lowenthal Hints Yes, but He’s Out Sometimes the biggest gaming announcements come from the most unexpected places. A deleted social media post just might have confirmed what Persona 4 fans have been desperately hoping for—and it came with a side of drama nobody saw coming. Yuri Lowenthal, the voice behind Yosuke Hanamura and Peter Parker in Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games (Marvel Rivals, too), apparently let something slip that he probably shouldn’t have. The post vanished faster than you can say “social link,” but the internet never forgets. The implications are huge, especially considering just how tight-lipped and secretive both Atlus and ***** have been about any remake plans. The accidental Persona 4 Remake confirmation nobody expected Lowenthal‘s now-deleted BlueSky post dropped what might be the worst-kept secret in JRPG development. While responding to persistent fan questions, he revealed more than anyone anticipated (via VGC): And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back. That’s not exactly subtle. The casual mention of “THE Persona 4 remake” suggests this project isn’t some distant possibility—it’s happening. The quick deletion only adds credibility to what feels like an accidental leak. The timing makes perfect sense, too. Persona 3 Reload launched in February 2024 to massive acclaim, currently sitting at a perfect 10/10 on Steam. Atlus clearly struck gold with that remake formula, so why wouldn’t they apply it to arguably the series’ most beloved entry? Lowenthal’s frustration about not returning is palpable, too. The fact that he “begged” to reprise Yosuke suggests some serious behind-the-scenes decisions that fans might not appreciate. Voice actor changes in beloved remakes rarely go over well. What does this mean for the future of Persona remakes The Persona series has become a cultural phenomenon far beyond typical JRPG boundaries. Persona 4 specifically holds a special place in gaming history, blending ******* mystery with high school life in ways that still feel fresh today. If this remake is real—and Lowenthal’s slip strongly suggests it is—then Atlus is clearly committed to modernizing their entire catalog. After all, Persona 3 Reload proved there’s a massive appetite for these updated classics. The voice acting situation raises interesting questions about creative direction. Lowenthal’s Yosuke was iconic, bringing perfect energy to the character’s comedic relief role. Replacing him suggests either budget constraints or a desire to completely reimagine the character. This could signal a broader trend in the industry. Successful remakes often lead to entire franchise overhauls, and Persona seems perfectly positioned for that treatment. The series’ blend of social simulation and dungeon crawling has influenced countless games since. The silence from Atlus and ***** becomes more telling with each passing day. They’re either planning a massive reveal or scrambling to control damage from this leak. Either way, fans now have concrete reason to believe their remake dreams are becoming reality. What do you think about potential voice actor changes in the Persona 4 remake? Are you team “recast everyone” or “don’t touch the original voices”? Let us know in the comments below! 14. Nokia accelerates multi-Gig PON fibre broadband services Nokia accelerates multi-Gig PON fibre broadband services Nokia has launched a 25G passive optical network (PON) high-density line card designed to deliver mass-market, multi-gig, residential broadband services and a co-existing offering that allows 10G, 25G and 50G PON technologies to run on the same fibre broadband network. The 16-port line card product provides operators with a cost-effective way to deliver true 10Gb/s broadband services in a cost-effective way. Based on the Quillion chipset, it supports GPON, XGS-PON, 25G PON and multi-PON variants like GPON + XGS-PON, XGS+25G PON and GPON + XGS + 25G PON on every port, offering flexibility to evolve with market demands. The result of having 10G+ connectivity, said the comms tech provider, is that mass amounts of data can be downloaded in minutes versus hours with 1 Gigabit speeds; business-critical applications in the cloud accessed almost instantaneously; and the likes of Wi-Fi 7 services effectively backhauled. The new line cards can be paired with Nokia’s fibre modems to provide an end-to-end service for mass-market 25G PON enterprise service deployments. Some 20 operators around the world – including Google Fiber and Hong Kong Broadband – are using Nokia 25G PON technology to address demand for faster broadband speeds. “Being able to cost-effectively scale multi-gigabit and true 10Gbps services across their entire residential subscriber base is critical for service providers in increasingly competitive broadband markets,” said Jeff Heynen, vice-president of broadband access and home networking at analyst Dell’Oro Group. “The ability to offer the highest speeds and handle high-peak traffic demands with the lowest latency and jitter is how providers will stand out from the crowd and keep subscribers happy.” Veronica Bloodworth, executive vice-president and chief network officer at operator Frontier, said: “Fibre is a strategic asset that ensures our network can scale and adapt to changing customer needs. The ability to seamlessly upgrade from GPON to XGS-PON and now 25G PON, along with our unique coexistence technology, reflects our commitment to staying ahead of the curve. “25G PON strengthens our competitive position, enabling us to deliver high-speed, future-proof connectivity for businesses, and an expanding base of residential customers who increasingly depend on fast, reliable broadband for cloud services, gaming and immersive digital experiences.” Meanwhile, the co-existence network element service is designed to protect existing infrastructure investments while offering enterprises flexibility to use different technology flavours to gain optimised multi-gigabit services. Built for high-speed service roll-outs, it supports dense deployments, enabling operators to meet the rising demand for ultra-fast, reliable broadband connectivity. The co-existence network element allows operators to add different PON technologies running on different wavelengths to a single fibre, without disturbing the existing services. A key intended benefit is to deliver a diverse set of business needs without replacing infrastructure. “Moving to next-generation PON is a competitive advantage for operators seeking to offer differentiated services,” said Geert Heyninck, general manager of broadband networks at Nokia. “But what that evolution path looks like will vary and largely depend on their individual business needs,” he said. “Our co-existence solution allows operators to support all flavours of PON on a single fibre, providing the flexibility to pick and choose the technology that is best suited to meet the unique demands of their residential and enterprise customers, both today and for years to come.” Source link #Nokia #accelerates #multiGig #PON #fibre #broadband #services Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  15. Trump administration yanks Moderna’s bird flu vaccine research funding even as company reports promising test results Trump administration yanks Moderna’s bird flu vaccine research funding even as company reports promising test results The Trump administration has canceled $766 million awarded to drugmaker Moderna Inc. to develop a vaccine against potential pandemic influenza viruses, including the H5N1 bird flu. The company said it was notified Wednesday that the Health and Human Services Department had withdrawn funds awarded in July 2024 and in January to pay for development and purchase of its investigational vaccine. The funds were awarded through the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, or BARDA, a program that focuses on medical treatments for potential pandemics. The new vaccine, called mRNA-1018, used the same technology that allowed development and rollout of vaccines to fight COVID-19 in record time. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has expressed deep skepticism regarding mRNA vaccines, despite real-world evidence that the vaccines are safe and saved millions of lives. The cancelation came as Moderna announced positive interim results from an early-stage trial of the vaccine that targeted H5 bird flu virus, tested in 300 healthy adults. “While the termination of funding from HHS adds uncertainty, we are pleased by the robust immune response and safety profile observed in this interim analysis,” CEO Stephane Bancel said in a statement. He added that Moderna would “explore alternatives” for funding the development and manufacturing of the vaccine, according to French news agency AFP. “These clinical data in pandemic influenza underscore the critical role mRNA technology has played as a countermeasure to emerging health threats,” AFP cited Bancel as saying. In a statement in March, Moderna told CBS News medical contributor and editor-at-large for public health at KFF Health News Dr. Céline Gounder that, “Researchers have been exploring mRNA’s potential in medicine for over 30 years, leading to the rapid deployment of mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines that transformed the course of the pandemic. With more than a billion doses distributed worldwide and an unprecedented amount of real-world safety and efficacy data, the benefits of mRNA vaccination … are well established.” Dr. Ashish Jha, a public health expert who served as former President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 response coordinator, remarked about the funding withdrawal on X, saying, “This move puts the lives of Americans at risk. The attack on mRNA vaccines is beyond absurd. It was President Trump’s Operation Warp Speed that gave us mRNA vaccines. … If Bird Flu starts spreading from people to people, we will come to regret this as the day we decided to put the lives of the American people at grave risk. ” H5N1 bird flu viruses spilled from wild bird into cattle in the U.S. last year, infecting hundreds of animals in several states. At least 70 people in the U.S. have been sickened by bird flu infections, mostly mild. One person died. Scientists fear that continued mutation of the virus could enable it to become more virulent or more easily spread in people, with the possibility that it could trigger a pandemic. Moderna received $176 million in July 2024 and $590 million in January. The January award would have supported a late-stage clinical trial that could have determined the vaccine’s efficacy against pandemic viruses, including bird flu, a company spokesman said. 17. Warren Buffett Says This Vanguard ETF Is One of the Best Investments Out There. It Could Turn $1,000 Per Month Into $228,000 in 10 Years. Warren Buffett Says This Vanguard ETF Is One of the Best Investments Out There. It Could Turn $1,000 Per Month Into $228,000 in 10 Years. Investors want to be like Warren Buffett and pick individual stocks successfully, but he recommends a simpler approach for the average person. What seems like a relatively small amount of capital can lead to incredible wealth over time. All that’s required for stock market success is patience, discipline, and a long-term mindset. 10 stocks we like better than Vanguard S&P 500 ETF › Few will argue if you call Warren Buffett the greatest investor of all time. The returns speak for themselves. Between 1965 and 2024, under the Oracle of Omaha’s leadership, Berkshire Hathaway has seen its share price rise at a compound annual rate of 19.9%, nearly double the gain for the S&P 500 index. This track record is unbelievable, partly because of how long it has gone on. But while the average investor might take this as a recommendation to go out and start picking individual stocks, Buffett’s advice is quite simple. He believes the best strategy for most people is to just buy a low-cost S&P 500 index fund. The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (NYSEMKT: VOO) is one that immediately comes to mind. This sounds boring at first. However, consider that a $1,000 monthly investment could eventually turn into a significant $228,000 nest egg in just a decade’s time. This shows how smart Buffett’s idea actually is at building wealth in the stock market. Image source: Getty Images. Over nearly the past century, the S&P 500 has produced a total annualized return in the neighborhood of 10%. Lately, though, the numbers have been better. In the past 10 years, the Vanguard S&P 500 has generated a total return of 225%, which equals a 12.5% annualized gain. No one will argue with this type of result. A number of factors could be at play here. There’s unprecedented monetary and fiscal stimulus, propelled by low interest rates, that drove economic growth during much of that *******. Passive investing is also in the spotlight. It’s worth mentioning that retail investors are now accounting for a higher share of stock buying. There’s also the monumental rise of dominant tech enterprises. It’s always important to remember that historical returns don’t mean future success is guaranteed. However, if we assume that the trailing-10-year returns repeat in the future, which may or may not happen, investing $1,000 per month (for a total of 120 investments) in this ETF can result in $228,000 in May 2035. The key factor to remember here is the consistency at which capital gets allocated. This is called dollar-cost averaging (DCA). Investors don’t need to successfully time the market, which is something Buffett has clearly been a master at. DCAing allows you to buy in at various price points. The only thing that’s required is discipline, patience, and a long-term mindset Story Continues The beauty of this strategy is that you don’t need to have a fancy degree, expert financial modeling or business analysis skills, or a lot of time on your hands. You can leave that to the so-called professional fund managers, most of whom actually lose to the S&P 500 over long periods of time. This is a very low-maintenance strategy, which should allow you to stick to it for a decade or more. By owning the S&P 500, investors gain access to all sectors of the economy with broad diversification. You’re essentially betting on the growth and innovation of the U.S. economy. Buffett would agree that this is a smart approach. The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF only carries an expense ratio of 0.03%. So, for every $1,000 you invest, a tiny $0.30 gets paid to Vanguard every year. This helps the massive asset management firm handle its operating costs, whether that’s for marketing or paying its staff, among other things. When it comes to your investments, it’s easy to get sucked into what sounds complex or exciting. But here’s where being boring is absolutely an advantage. Buying $1,000 worth of the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF every single month can result in huge wealth between now and 2035. Before you buy stock in Vanguard S&P 500 ETF, consider this: The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now… and Vanguard S&P 500 ETF wasn’t one of them. 21. Parents thought their pitbull puppy mauled their baby to death while they slept. An autopsy says otherwise Parents thought their pitbull puppy mauled their baby to death while they slept. An autopsy says otherwise A one-month-old baby who died in a New York City apartment was not killed by a dog despite initial suspicions, an autopsy has found. Kiyanna Winfield was pronounced dead at the Queensbridge Houses complex in Long Island City on Tuesday morning. At first NYPD investigators believed the newborn had been mauled by the family’s 6-week-old pit bull and ******* Shepherd mix puppy. The girl’s mother reportedly told cops she had been sleeping between her parents in bed when they woke up to find the dog gnawing at her face. When police arrived Kiyanna was unconscious with “a substantial portion” of her face bitten off. However, a medical examiner has ruled that she did not die as a result of the dog’s bites. The dog in question, a pitbull-******* Shepherd mix, is shown here in an animal shelter in New York City (NY ACC) “The cause and manner of death are pending further study following the examination today,” a spokesperson for the New York City Office of the Medical Examiner told The New York Post Wednesday. “But we can confirm this is not a death from a dog mauling. The injuries inflicted by the dog were postmortem.” Winfield’s official cause of death is “pending further study” and will “include a full pediatric workup”, the spokesperson said. No charges have been filed as of Thursday. Neighbors from the apartment complex said they heard “piercing screams of a mother in anguish” bellowing through the building when the incident occurred Tuesday morning. Upon learning of the girl’s death, neighbor Shanel Norville told NBC New York: “That’s really sad. I feel bad for the mom.” Norville added that she rarely saw the puppy on a leash. Two other dogs, including a pit bull, were found inside the home. The young pit bull mix pup was removed from the home by the NYPD and taken to an Animal Care Centers of NYC shelter on Tuesday evening, according to the New York Daily News. The animal was reportedly placed on a 10-day observation hold for rabies. Investigators arrived at the scene at the Queensbridge Houses complex in Long Island City Tuesday morning (Google Maps) Yvette Mathurin, whose late son was an ex-boyfriend of Kiyanna’s mother, described the family’s excitement at the birth. Mathurin had remained close to the girl’s mother after her own son’s death. “She promised to come see me,” Mathurin told the New York Daily News. “She said she was going to bring the baby. She was very excited. 23. Post Office slammed after deleting social media comments on IT scandal Post Office slammed after deleting social media comments on IT scandal The Post Office has been slammed after it was revealed the organisation’s social media accounts have been deleting, suppressing and blocking comments about serious concerns around compensation for subpostmasters affected by the Horizon IT scandal. At least two users, including a former subpostmaster, have been blocked by the Post Office’s social media account after posting comments calling the Horizon IT scandal “shameful” and urging faster compensation. Dozens more comments related to the scandal have since been deleted, it can be revealed. The Post Office said it will make “further enquiries” into their social media accounts, but Sir Alan Bates, the founder of Justice for Subpostmasters Alliance (JFSA), said it is “yet another example of the Post Office trying to control the narrative”. “It comes as no surprise,” he added. “Manipulating the truth seems to be something the Post Office has shown it can excel in.” One comment on TikTok – from an account that has since been blocked by the organisation – responded to a promotional video, now also deleted, titled, “How it feels when my suitcase is 0.1kg overweight”. The user wrote: “How I feel when I think of the subpostmasters who the Post Office didn’t think about.” In response to a separate video titled, “She doesn’t know it yet, but she won’t drop off her returns tonight”, another user commented: “They don’t know it yet but hundreds of subpostmasters will be prosecuted for a crime they didn’t commit.” The comment was later deleted by the Post Office. A fourth deleted comment said the Post Office is “embarrassing to try and protect your brand overcompensating subpostmasters”, with another user comparing the Horizon IT system to a scam. Former subpostmaster Lee Castleton, who was left bankrupt by the scandal, stated that it is “odd” that the Post Office hasn’t appeared to “learn the lessons of their past painful mistakes”. He said: “The only people trying to save the reputation of the Post Office are, by their very actions, the ones trashing it. In fact, those who really care and are trying to talk to the Post Office to do the right thing are the ones being silenced. The government and the Post Office will never ever learn the lessons of their past painful mistakes.” Meanwhile, the @PostOffice account on X (formerly Twitter) has hidden multiple comments from a former subpostmaster who accused the organisation of being an “embarrassment” run by “corrupt individuals”. Former postmaster Peter Murray said he was blocked on the Post Office’s Facebook page before the Horizon IT inquiry, which started in 2020, after voicing concern for victims like himself: “The Post Office is throwing absolutely everything at it to try to bury and deflect the Horizon scandal. They are just trying to protect themselves, and their actions on social media reflect a continued failure to understand the impact the scandal has had on people’s lives.” MP Kate Osborne labelled the Post Office as a “disgrace” for “attempting to silence [subpostmasters] again by deleting comments from social media”, adding: “Sub-postmasters have been consistently silenced, disbelieved, falsely accused, dismissed and even imprisoned because of the actions of the Post Office. “It is a disgrace that they are attempting to silence them again by deleting comments from social media, showing they have still not learnt the lessons of the past and they are still refusing to be accountable for their actions. “Victims of the Horizon Scandal deserve to be heard, cleared of all charges and receive full compensation. It’s time the Post Office stop attempting to silence its victims, take accountability for their actions and face their valid criticisms.” Other criticisms of the Post Office’s handling of the scandal have been relegated to a “folded” section on TikTok, significantly limiting their visibility. Users must scroll to the bottom of the comment thread and take extra steps to manually expand the section to view them. One folded message read: “Remember when you destroyed people’s lives by accusing them of theft even though you knew your system wasn’t reliable.” Another suppressed account added: “The subpostmasters deserve compensation!” Another commented: “Do you go down your TikToks deleting any mention of the HORIZON SCANDAL?” This comes amid fury from Sir Alan Bates over the state of the compensation process itself, with him describing it as a “quasi-kangaroo court”. He said that he had received a “take-it-or-leave-it” offer worth less than half of his original claim, accusing the scheme of shifting the goalposts and treating sub-postmasters unfairly despite years of delay and suffering. Bates led a group of 555 subpostmasters who took part in the 2918/19 landmark group legal action against the Post Office. Between 1999 and 2015, more than 900 subpostmasters were wrongly prosecuted after the faulty Horizon IT system indicated shortfalls in Post Office branch accounts, with many more forced to cover deficits which were caused by computer errors. Former subpostmaster Heather Tingle said: “The Post Office seems to want to relegate the Horizon scandal to the depths of history as if it was so long ago… subpostmasters are often dismissed and deleted on social media and it looks like a swift move on, and everyone should forget about it.” Janet Skinner, who had a wrongful conviction overturned in 2021, said: “The Post Office’s actions have been utterly appalling, and it’s clear that they’ve consistently prioritised their reputation and financial interests over the well-being of their postmasters. “The devastating impact on lives and livelihoods is a stark reminder of the human cost of their actions. The lack of compassion, accountability, and transparency is staggering. They show zero compassion towards any subpostmaster who is caught up in this scandal that they created. This is absolutely disgusting! Nothing the Post Office says or does surprises me anymore.” The Post Office has said it will make “further enquiries”. A spokesperson said: “We’re grateful for this matter being raised with us and will make further enquiries.
