Starlight Legacy Review – GamesReviews
The Outerhaven says: Starlight Legacy is a great feeling turn-based JRPG. It has the look of a traditional Super Nintendo experience but it plays much better. I wasn’t expecting to see a map and route system similar to Pokémon but they incorporated it well into the DNA of the game and its world. If you are someone who wants to see more 16-bit-era goodness then this is the game for you. A fantastic Steam Deck experience as well.

Google Shuts Down Malware That Leveraged Google Calendar to Steal Data
Google Shuts Down Malware That Leveraged Google Calendar to Steal Data
Google Calendar was being used as a communication channel by a group of hackers to extract sensitive information from individuals, according to the Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG). The tech giant’s cybersecurity division discovered a compromised government website in October 2024 and found that malware was being spread using it. Once the malware infected a device, it would create a ********* using Google Calendar and allow the operator to extract data. GTIG has already taken down the calendar accounts and other systems that were being used by the hackers.
Google Calendar Used By China-Linked Hackers for Command and Control (C2) Channel
GTIG detailed the delivery method of the malware, how it functioned, and the measures taken by Google’s team to protect users and its product. The hacker associated with this attack is said to be APT41, also known as HOODOO, a threat group believed to be linked to the ******** government.
An investigation by GTIG revealed that APT41 used a spear phishing method to deliver malware to targets. Spear phishing is a targeted form of phishing where attackers personalise emails to specific individuals.
These emails contained a link to a ZIP archive that was hosted on the compromised government website. When an unsuspecting person opened the archive, it showed a shortcut LNK file (.lnk), which was disguised to appear like a PDF, as well as a folder.
Overview of how the malware functioned Photo Credit: GTIG
This folder contained seven JPG images of arthropods (insects, spiders, etc.). GTIG highlighted that the sixth and seventh entries, however, are decoys that actually contain an encrypted payload and a dynamic link library (DLL) file that decrypts the payload.
When the target clicks the LNK file, it triggers both files. Interestingly, the LNK file also automatically deletes itself and is replaced with a fake PDF, which is shown to the user. This file mentions that the species shown need to be declared for export, likely to mask the hacking attempt and to avoid raising suspicion.
Once the malware has infected a device, it operates in three different stages, where each stage carries out a task in sequence. GTIG highlighted that all three sequences are executed using various stealth techniques to avoid detection.
The first stage decrypts and runs a DLL file named PLUSDROP directly in memory. The second stage launches a legitimate Windows process and performs process hollowing — a technique used by attackers to run malicious code under the guise of a legitimate process — to inject the final payload.
The final payload, TOUGHPROGRESS, executes malicious tasks on the device and communicates with the attacker via Google Calendar. It uses the cloud-based app as a communication channel via command and control (C2) technique.
The malware adds a zero-minute calendar event on a hardcoded date (May 30, 2023), which stores encrypted data from the compromised computer in the event’s description field.
It also creates two other events on hardcoded dates (July 30 and 31, 2023), which gives the attacker a ********* to communicate with the malware. TOUGHPROGRESS regularly scans the calendar for these two events.
When the attacker sends an encrypted command, it decrypts it and executes the command. Then, it sends back the result by creating another zero-minute event with the encrypted output.
To disrupt the malware campaign, GTIG created custom detection methods that identify and remove APT41’s Google Calendar accounts. The team also shut down the attacker-controlled Google Workspace projects, effectively disabling the infrastructure that was used in the operation.
Additionally, the tech giant also updated its malware detection systems and blocked the malicious domains and URLs using Google Safe Browsing.
GTIG has also notified affected organisations, and provided them with samples of the malware’s network traffic and details about the threat actor to help with detection, investigation, and response efforts.

WA community encouraged to head to local Coles this weekend to buy sausage sizzle for Telethon
The WA community is encouraged to pop to their local Coles and grab a sizzling snag in the spirit of Telethon at the weekend.
Every Coles supermarket across the State will host a community BBQ on Saturday and Sunday in hopes of raising $50,000 for sick, vulnerable and disadvantaged children.
Coles assistant State manager Jeff Stephens said they are “incredibly proud” to support Telethon.
“This BBQ is about more than just the snags, it’s about showing up for local kids and families, celebrating our community spirit, and doing our bit to make a real difference,” he said.
Customers can purchase a hotdog for $3.50, or snag a deal with a hotdog and a drink for $5. One hundred per cent of the proceeds will go to Telethon.
The BBQ will run outside Coles stores from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, 31, and from 11am to 2pm Sunday, 1 June.

Stylist says Cassie confided that Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs pressured her into sex marathons
Stylist says Cassie confided that Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs pressured her into sex marathons
NEW YORK (AP) — The singer Cassie was content celebrating her 29th birthday with drinks, drugs and karaoke with friends, but her boyfriend, Sean “Diddy” Combs, had a different idea.
The hip-hop mogul insisted on taking Cassie, his R&B protégé, to a Los Angeles hotel for another of his “freak-off” sex marathons, her friend and former stylist testified Wednesday at Combs’ federal sex trafficking trial.
Deonte Nash told jurors that he saw the temperamental Combs berating Cassie as she pleaded for him to let her enjoy her birthday on her own terms. Later that night, Nash said, Cassie told the stylist, “I don’t want to freak-off,” but that she had to because Combs was making her.
Nash testified that the 2015 conversation was one of several times Cassie, whose real name is Casandra Ventura, confided to him that she didn’t want to engage in Combs’ drug-fueled hotel encounters. Earlier in the trial, Cassie testified that these often involved Combs watching, directing and sometimes filming her as she had sex with a male sex worker. She said she engaged in hundreds of such encounters during her nearly 11-year relationship with Combs from 2007 to 2018.
Nash said he remains close with Cassie, even advising her on her trial wardrobe. He said he contacted her Tuesday to congratulate her on the birth of her third child.
Along with shedding light on Cassie’s feelings about freak-offs, Nash also corroborated her testimony that Combs frequently beat and tormented her. Combs would threaten to hinder Cassie’s fledgling music career and said he’d ruin her reputation by releasing recordings of their ******* encounters, Nash said.
The stylist said he was at Cassie’s apartment, helping her pack for a music festival, when Combs stormed in, grabbed her by the hair, pulled her off a couch and hit her repeatedly. Nash said he jumped on Combs’ back in an attempt to get him to stop, but Combs bucked and threw him to the ground.
Combs resumed whaling on Cassie, who’d fled to a bedroom with Nash and another friend, knocking her head into the edge of the bed frame and causing a large, bloody gash above her eye, the witness said.
“Look what y’all made me do,” Combs said, according to Nash.
Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to charges that he led a racketeering conspiracy for 20 years that relied on fear and violence to get what he wanted. If convicted, he could face 15 years to life in prison.
Earlier Wednesday, Combs’ lawyers asked for a mistrial — which Judge Arun Subramanian denied — after they said prosecutors had tried to imply that Combs interfered with a police investigation into the January 2012 firebombing of rapper Kid Cudi’s Porsche 911. Subramanian told jurors to disregard testimony about fingerprint records that ended up being destroyed months after the fire.
Combs’ ex-assistant testified Tuesday that Combs said he wanted to kill Cudi after he learned that Cassie and Cudi were dating in December 2011.
A few weeks later, Cudi’s Porsche was firebombed. A Molotov ********* was found in the front seat, made out of a 40-ounce Old English 800 malt liquor bottle and a designer handkerchief, according to Lance Jimenez, an arson investigator for the Los Angeles Fire Department, and photographs shown in court.
Combs’ lawyers moved for a mistrial after Jimenez, prompted by prosecution questioning, testified that fingerprints taken from Cudi’s vehicle were destroyed in August 2012, about eight months after the fire. Jimenez said someone at the Los Angeles Police Department who wasn’t involved in the investigation ordered the fingerprint cards destroyed. He said this wasn’t normal protocol.
Combs’ lawyer Alexandra Shapiro accused the government of prosecutorial misconduct for even broaching the idea that something untoward happened with the fingerprint cards. She said prosecutors should’ve known better because some prospective jurors were eliminated from consideration for the trial after they said they believed Combs could buy his way out of trouble.
“These questions were designed to play right into that,” Shapiro said.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christy Slavik countered that “a mistrial is absolutely unwarranted here,” telling the judge that she only asked Jimenez about the fate of the fingerprint cards to counter defense suggestions that the firebombing was poorly investigated and that the area was not canvassed for fingerprints.
No arrests were made as a result of Jimenez’s investigation, but federal prosecutors contend Combs was responsible for the fire and have included the episode as one of several acts of alleged wrongdoing supporting the racketeering charge against him.

Trimo Heroes lets you save the galaxy across a merge game with roguelike elements, out now
Trimo Heroes lets you save the galaxy across a merge game with roguelike elements, out now
Build your squad and fight back against the Trimo corruption
Grab roguelike card traits on each stage
Merge to boost your team
EOAG Games has announced the official launch of Trimo Heroes, the studio’s sci-fi-themed merge-slash-strategy game on iOS and Android. It’ll have you going on an interplanetary quest to fend off the corruption of the “Trimo”, all while battling the monstrous Minmer across infected planets at the same time.
Thankfully, your titular heroes have also gained inexplicable powers, which should hopefully equip you well enough to face the battles up ahead. You can use the Merge System to boost your squad, with roguelike card traits you can choose from as you clear every stage.
It certainly feels like an interesting twist to your average strategy, especially given the randomised elements thrown into the mix. As you take down enemy prediction nodes, you’ll also have to keep up your own upgrades to survive. And if you ever feel like you need a helping hand, the co-op PvE mode will let you team up wth your pals to take on missions together.
Plus, all these are presented with lovely pixel art visuals, and it’s all done in portrait mode too to keep things in sync with mobile’s pick-up-and-play nature. And while the themes here might sound incredibly dire – there’s an intergalactic threat corrupting the galaxy, after all – the character designs are actually super cute, so I don’t think it’s meant to take itself too seriously.
If that sounds like something that’s right up your alley, why not take a look at our list of the best strategy games on Android to get your fill of something similar?
In the meantime, if you’re eager to join in on all the fun, you can do so by checking out Trimo Heroes on the App Store and on Google Play. It’s free-to-play with in-app purchases. You can also visit the official website for more info.

2025 Nintendo Switch 2 Game Release Schedule
2025 Nintendo Switch 2 Game Release Schedule
BlackCountryBob17d ago
Beyond it all, I do wonder at what point Nintendo will begin to get less payoff from its current big franchises, because they really haven’t had a successful new franchise in maybe 10 years plus (Splatoon) and even in the decade before its pretty much only Pikmin or Luigi’s Mansion and both these are very niche games.
Don’t get me wrong, Mario Kart and the 2D / 3D Mario games, Zelda, Smash Bros, Animal Crossing etc are always huge games, but in many ways they remain iterations of games dating back to the N64 era or before and at some point, particularly with rising barriers to entry (the £99 DS / GBA SP basically every kid had is a distant memory) I am curious if the reliance upon new versions of these games will lose their appeal because the numbers who will have good memories and experience of the prior games will begin the decline. I’d love to see Nintendo really do something new from a franchise or genre perspective and fully commit to it as a partial justification for its current money hungry approach.
Or of course, the Waluigi game I’m desperately hoping for.

Gaza being subjected to forced starvation, top UN official tells BBC
Gaza being subjected to forced starvation, top UN official tells BBC
The UN’s humanitarian chief has said people in Gaza are being subjected to forced starvation by Israel.
In an interview with the BBC, Tom Fletcher said he believed this had led to a change in the international response to Gaza.
Asked if his assessment of forced starvation amounted to a war crime, he said: “Yeah, it is. It is classified as a war crime. Obviously, these are issues for the courts to take the judgement on, and ultimately for history to take a judgement on.”
Mr Fletcher also expressed regret for saying recently that 14,000 babies could die within 48 hours in Gaza if aid was not allowed in – a claim the UN later drew back – and acknowledged a need to be “precise” with language.
Israel began to allow limited aid into Gaza last week, after an almost three-month blockade had halted the delivery of supplies such as food, medicine, fuel and shelter.
It also resumed its military offensive two weeks after imposing the blockade, ending a two-month ceasefire with ******.
Israel said the steps were intended to put pressure on the armed group to release the 58 hostages still held in Gaza, at least 20 of whom are believed to be alive.
Since the easing of the blockade, scenes of chaos have broken out at aid distribution centres run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation – a US- and Israeli-backed group.
The UN, which refuses to cooperate with the GHF, said 47 people were injured earlier this week after crowds overwhelmed one of the centres.
Mr Fletcher said: “We’re seeing food set on the borders and not being allowed in when there is a population on the other side of the border that is starving, and we’re hearing Israeli ministers say that is to put pressure on the population of Gaza.”
He said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should “absolutely” disavow a statement made by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich – who had said people in Gaza would be “totally despairing understanding that there’s no hope and nothing to look for”, and would be looking to relocate to begin a “new life in other places”.
“We would expect governments all over the world to stand for international humanitarian law, the international community is very, very clear on that,” Mr Fletcher said.
He called on Netanyahu to ensure that “this language, and ultimately, this policy… of forced displacement, isn’t enacted”.
Israel has faced growing international criticism over its conduct of the war.
On Tuesday, the EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said: “Israeli strikes in Gaza go beyond what is necessary to fight ******.”
Her remarks followed an intervention by ******* Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who declared he “no longer understands” Israel’s objectives.
Earlier this month, the leaders of the ***, France and Canada called on the Israeli government to “stop its military operations” and “immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza”. In response, Netanyahu accused them of siding with ******.
On 14 May, Mr Fletcher called on the UN Security Council to act to prevent genocide in Gaza.
Asked why he had made that statement, he referred to reporting from colleagues on the ground in Gaza.
“What they’re reporting is forced displacement. They’re reporting starvation, they’re reporting torture, and they’re reporting deaths on a massive scale,” he said.
Mr Fletcher said in the cases of Rwanda, Srebrenica and Sri Lanka, “the world had told us afterwards that we didn’t act in time, that we didn’t sound a warning”.
“And that’s my call to the [UN] Security Council and the world right now, ‘will you act to prevent genocide?'”
Mr Fletcher came under strong criticism from Israel after he claimed 14,000 babies in Gaza would die in 48 hours if aid was not allowed into the Strip.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry accused Mr Fletcher of ignoring ******’s atrocities and echoing their propaganda. “It’s not humanitarian work, it’s blood libel,” the ministry said at the time.
Mr Fletcher said: “At the point when I made those comments, we were desperately trying to get that aid in.
“We were being told we couldn’t get it in, and we knew that we’d probably have a couple of days, a window to get as much aid in as possible, and that was being denied, and we were desperate to get that in. And so yes, we’ve got to be utterly precise with our language, and we’ve clarified that.”
Asked about his claim – repudiated by Israel – that thousands of lorries were waiting on the border to enter Gaza, Mr Fletcher repeated that he especially needed to be “careful and really precise”.
He agreed there was a risk of being seen to hype the situation, but he added: “I’m not going to stop speaking up for the need to save these lives in Gaza, to save as many survivors as possible. That’s my job, and I’ve got to do it better, and I will do it.”
He said mediation and negotiation was the way to resolve the crisis in Gaza and repeated his call for ****** to release the Israeli hostages being held by the militant group.
“We all want to see those hostages freed and back with their with their families,” he said.
“I don’t know now what the aim of this war is anymore. I think it has clearly gone beyond just the hostage releases. There’s a lot of talk about finishing off ******.
“And clearly, as many people have said, there can’t be a part for ****** in the new equation, the new governance of Gaza and the ************ territories.”
Mr Fletcher rejected Israeli claims ****** was stealing large amounts of food aid.
“I don’t want to see any of that aid getting to ******. That matters to us because these are our principles, neutral, impartial, independent. Its in our interest to stop that aid getting to ****** and ensure it gets to civilians.”
“As a humanitarian, my interest is just in getting as much of that aid in as possible, as quickly as possible, and saving as many lives as we’re allowed to do in the time we have.”
Mr Fletcher is also dealing with crises in Ukraine, Sudan and Syria, among others, and said the world was facing a “profoundly dangerous” moment.
“The Security Council is polarized, divided,” he said.
“That means it makes it much harder for us to end conflicts; the conflicts we’re dealing with are more ferocious, there’s more impunity, and they’re lasting longer.
“It’s getting harder and harder to end wars and we humanitarians… deal with the consequences.”
Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to ******’s cross-border attack on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.
At least 54,249 people have been killed in Gaza since then, including 3,986 since Israel resumed its offensive, according to the territory’s ******-run health ministry.
With additional reporting by Olivia Lace-Evans and Maarten Lernout.
Mr Fletcher’s full interview will be broadcast on the BBC News Channel at 00:30BST and 16:30BST on Saturday.

US Women’s Open: British trio Charley Hull, Gemma Dryburgh, Lottie Woad four shots off lead
British trio Charley Hull, Gemma Dryburgh and Lottie Woad sit four shots off the lead, alongside world number one Nelly Korda, after the first round of the US Women’s Open.
They are all at level par on a congested leaderboard at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.
American world number 11 Angel Yin and 2020 champion A Lim Kim are among six players in the joint lead on four under after a day when 58 players shot level par or better.
England’s Hull, who was two over after 11 holes, hit birdies on the 12th and 16th holes to post a 72 and match the efforts of Scotland’s Dryburgh who birdied the 13th and 14th holes to wipe out early bogeys.
Amateur Lottie Woad, who won the prestigious Augusta National Women’s Amateur in 2024, was three under after 10 holes but a double-bogey six on the par-four 17th saw her drop back.
Two-time major winner Korda had one bogey and one birdie in her 72.
“Overall, I can’t complain,” said the American.
“First day, it’s all about patience. I’m striking it pretty well, so hopefully I can carry that into the next couple days.”

WACA Ground redevelopment: WA Cricket want venue to be hub for country’s women’s team
WACA Ground redevelopment: WA Cricket want venue to be hub for country’s women’s team
WA Cricket is making a push for its redeveloped ground to become the heart of women’s cricket in Australia.
The $170 million redevelopment of the historic WACA Ground — which is now set for completion in November — will host a day-night Test match between Australia and India’s women’s teams in March next season.
It will be the first international match played at the venue after its facelift and just the second Test at the ground since a men’s Ashes match in 2017.
Sports minister Rita Saffioti was on hand to celebrate the “topping out” of the ground’s new northern pavilion on Friday morning.
The project had originally been slated for completion in the middle of the year, but that has now been pushed back to beyond the start of the domestic season. It is likely the ground will be opened in line with Perth’s Ashes Test from November 21.
That could open the door for England’s touring side to use the facility
*********** stars Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry, Ash Gardner and Western Australia’s own Beth Mooney and Alana King are set to star in the Test from March 6.
That match will be the WACA Ground’s first-ever pink-ball Test.
There had been strong momentum when Australia played South Africa at the venue early last year around the prospect of the WACA becoming a regular venue for the national team.
The size of the venue, the family-friendly nature of the grass bank, the soon-to-be upgraded facilities make it a strong option for women’s internationals, while the fast and bouncy wickets make for entertaining cricket and the timezone means matches are beamed into the east coast in **********.
WA Cricket chief executive John Stephenson said the ground was well placed to host more women’s matches.
“I think the WACA Ground 2.0 is going to be the perfect place for women’s cricket and Cricket Australia definitely acknowledge that by allocating us a women’s Test match,” he said.
“It will be our first pink-ball Test match, day-night women’s Test match, which is an incredible thing us historically to be staging.
“One of our priorities is developing women’s cricket, so everything we do here benefits Cricket Australia.

The West *********** understands Cricket Australia had been keen to host the clash with India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground — after the success of last year’s Ashes match there — but the schedule meant the match would be played too close to the start of the AFL season.
Perry — Australia’s highest-profile women’s cricketer — is among the top players that have pushed for more matches to be played in Perth.
The redevelopment of the facility includes the public pool and gymnasium, the nation-leading indoor cricket nets, function space and new public viewing areas.

Astronomers discover strange new celestial object in our Milky Way galaxy
Astronomers discover strange new celestial object in our Milky Way galaxy
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Astronomers have discovered a strange new object in our Milky Way galaxy.
An international team reported Wednesday that this celestial object — perhaps a star, pair of stars or something else entirely — is emitting X-rays around the same time it’s shooting out radio waves. What’s more, the cycle repeats every 44 minutes, at least during periods of extreme activity.
Located 15,000 light-years away in a region of the Milky Way brimming with stars, gas and dust, this object could be a highly magnetized dead star like a neutron or white dwarf, Curtin University’s Ziteng Andy Wang said in an email from Australia.
Or it could be “something exotic” and unknown, said Wang, lead author of the study published in the journal Nature.
NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory spotted the X-ray emissions by chance last year while focusing on a supernova remnant, or the remains of an exploded star. Wang said it was the first time X-rays had been seen coming from a so-called long-******* radio transient, a rare object that cycles through radio signals over tens of minutes.
Given the uncertain distance, astronomers can’t tell if the weird object is associated with the supernova remnant or not. A single light-year is 5.8 trillion miles.
The hyperactive phase of this object — designated ASKAP J1832−091 — appeared to last about a month. Outside of that *******, the star did not emit any noticeable X-rays. That could mean more of these objects may be out there, scientists said.
“While our discovery doesn’t yet solve the mystery of what these objects are and may even deepen it, studying them brings us closer to two possibilities,” Wang said. “Either we are uncovering something entirely new, or we’re seeing a known type of object emitting radio and X-ray waves in a way we’ve never observed before.”
Launched in 1999, Chandra orbits tens of thousands of miles (kilometers) above Earth, observing some of the hottest, high-energy objects in the universe.

Revenue from Marvell’s data center segment, which accounts for 76% of the company’s total revenue, stood at $1.44 billion in the first quarter.
The company’s carrier and enterprise networking segments have also gradually recovered following a ******* of inventory correction.
“We believe the custom silicon business will be the primary growth driver over the next 3-5 years, contributing positively to operating profits despite lower gross margins,” said Angelo Zino, analyst at CFRA Research.
Zino added that the upcoming custom silicon webinar on June 17 could serve as a catalyst by potentially showcasing TAM expansion opportunities and new customer wins in CY26.
However, the consumer end market remained weak for the company, with revenue falling 29% sequentially to $63.1 million due to seasonality in gaming demand. The industrial segment also struggled, reporting a 12% sequential decline in revenue.
Shares of the company fell about 2% in extended trading.
The company expects second-quarter revenue to be $2 billion, plus or minus 5% compared with analysts’ average estimate of $1.98 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.
In May, Marvell said it was postponing its previously scheduled investor day conference due to a “dynamic macroeconomic environment.”
It reported revenue of $1.9 billion for the quarter ended May 3, compared to analysts’ average estimate of $1.88 billion.

Quantum computers made 90% more energy efficient, smaller, and faster
Quantum computers made 90% more energy efficient, smaller, and faster
********* company Nord Quantique has developed a novel method to improve quantum error correction (QEC) that will help develop smaller and energy-efficient quantum computers in the future.
Dubbed Tesseract code, the approach combines multimode encoding with bosonic qubit technology, which protects the system from multiple common errors seen in quantum systems.
Quantum computers are the next big thing in computing technology, promising to solve challenges like climate change, drug discovery, and much more for humanity. Unlike classical computers that use bits to store and process information, quantum computers leverage quantum states of materials for processing data.
Called quantum bits or qubits, these data storage units can occupy multiple states simultaneously, referred to as superposition, unlike binary bits’ on or off state. This allows qubits to process information at exponential rates compared to classical bits. However, this also increases the likelihood of accumulating errors during the process, prompting the need to build robust quantum error correction (QEC) systems.
Since quantum computing systems operate at ultra-low temperatures, deploying QEC systems is an additional cost associated with quantum computing in terms of money spent and energy consumption. Nord Quantique’s innovative approach solves both problems in one.
What is Tesseract Code?
The Tesseract Code uses bosonic qubit technology that protects the quantum system from bit flips, phase flips, and control errors. Since this is coupled with multimode encoding, the QEC prevents leakage errors.
According to the company’s research paper, Nord uses a completely autonomous error correction system capable of mid-circuit measurements, which can identify and discard flagged realizations during the computation. This is referred to as erasure-based error suppression.
“Using physical qubits to create redundancy makes the system large, inefficient, and complex, which also increases energy requirements,” said Julien Camirand-Lemyre, CEO of Nord Quantique, in a press release.
“Multimode encoding allows us to build quantum computers with excellent error correction capabilities, but without the impediment of all those physical qubits.”
In a demonstration, the company filtered out imperfect runs and discarded 12.6 percent of data for each round of 32 error correction cycles with no measurable decay. As more modes are added, the Tesseract code is also expected to deliver more QEC benefits.

The major advantage of this approach is that it builds not just fault-tolerant but also efficient quantum systems. The company estimates that its 1,000 logical qubit quantum computer will take just 20 square meters of space and easily fit inside a data center.
In terms of energy savings, the researchers estimate that the cryptographic algorithm RSA-830 can be computed at speeds of 1 MHz in just one hour on their quantum computer using 120 kWh of energy.
In comparison, classical high-performance computing would need nine days of computing time with an estimated energy expenditure of 280,000 kWh, showcasing significant time and energy savings when using quantum computing.
Interestingly, Norq Quantifique’s approach also ensures that its physical and logical qubits are identical. A 1,000-qubit quantum computer with physical and logical qubits in a 1:1 ratio will arrive in 2029.
