  2. Elon Musk is $70 billion richer since Trump victory due to Tesla surge Elon Musk is $70 billion richer since Trump victory due to Tesla surge Elon Musk on stage before *********** presidential nominee former President Donald Trump speaks at a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY on Sunday, October 27, 2024. The Washington Post | The Washington Post | Getty Images Elon Musk spent $44 billion to buy Twitter, now known as X, and at least $130 million to help get Donald Trump elected president. It’s a combination that’s paid off handsomely. Since Trump’s victory last week, Musk is about $70 billion richer on paper. Most of Musk’s wealth is wrapped up in his holdings of Tesla, and in the four trading days since the election, the electric vehicle maker’s stock has soared by about 39%. That’s lifted the company’s market cap well past $1 trillion. Musk’s net worth has swelled to $320 billion, according to Forbes, putting him close to $90 billion ahead of Oracle founder Larry Ellison, the world’s second-richest person. Ellison, a close friend of Musk’s and a former Tesla board member, is a longtime *********** donor who’s seen his own Trump bump, with Oracle’s 10% increase lifting his net worth by about $20 billion. For Musk, getting Trump back into the White House became another full-time job. He funded a swing-state operation to register right-leaning voters, and he led rallies as a surrogate for his favored candidate. He started $1 million giveaways to registered voters who signed one of his America PAC petitions, and he faced a lawsuit over running an ******** lottery in Pennsylvania. Musk also used X, the social media platform he acquired in 2022, to constantly tout his support for Trump while frequently spreading misinformation about his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, as well as topics like immigration and voter ******. Now, Musk is trying to make sure he cashes in on his investments. After the election last week, Musk briefly joined Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, NBC News reported. Other outlets, including The New York Times and ABC, have reported that Musk has been weighing in on staffing decisions for the next administration, and he’s spent a lot of time since the election at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Brendan Carr, who is likely to be Trump’s choice to run the Federal Communications Commission, is seen as a longstanding Musk ally. Musk ran a straw poll on X for his 200-million plus followers asking who should be Senate majority leader, and he’s personally endorsed Florida *********** Sen. Rick Scott for the position. He also reposted a comment from Trump about the need for the majority leader to support recess appointments for his nominees so they don’t need Senate confirmation. “Without recess appointments, it will take two years or more to confirm the new administration!” Musk wrote. Benefiting Musk’s empire Musk has long sought to reduce regulatory authority so that he can eliminate impediments to his sprawling business empire, which includes Tesla and X, as well as defense contractor SpaceX, artificial intelligence startup xAI, brain computer interface company Neuralink and tunneling venture Boring Co. Those companies are currently embroiled in a range of probes and lawsuits from federal agencies pertaining to matters including alleged securities law violations, workplace safety, labor and civil rights violations, violations of federal environmental laws, consumer ****** and vehicle safety defects. Given the executive branch’s outsized control over federal regulatory bodies, Musk can look forward to regulators and intelligence agencies winding down some or all of the 19 known ongoing federal investigations and lawsuits against Tesla, SpaceX and X. “He’s got the golden touch right now and has the ear,” said Deepwater Asset Management’s Gene Munster, a longtime Tesla bull, in an interview with CNBC on Wednesday. In addition to Tesla, SpaceX is also a “clear beneficiary” of a Trump presidency, Munster said. He added that xAI could be rewarded as the new administration considers AI regulations. “I’m stretched to try to find out how this could play out negative for Elon,” Munster said. Musk didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Musk owns 411.06 million Tesla shares, as of the latest filings, and about 304 million performance-based options. In January, Judge Kathaleen McCormick of the Delaware Chancery Court voided Musk’s historic pay package from 2018 that included the options, calling it “unfathomable” in part because Musk controlled the board. Shareholders then voted in June to retroactively ratify the package. McCormick has said a final ruling on whether to restore Musk’s compensation will come soon. Musk and Ellison aren’t the only two billionaire tech executives to see a post-election windfall. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has added about $4.5 billion to his net worth since Trump’s victory. Coinbase shares soared 20% on Monday, bringing their gains since Tuesday to 67%. The crypto exchange was a major contributor to pro-crypto candidates up and down the ballot, largely through a PAC called Fairshake. Most of its preferred candidates were victorious, setting the stage for the likelihood of a more favorable regulatory environment for the industry. That’s a win for Tesla as well. At the end of the third quarter, the company reported “digital assets” with a fair value of $729 million. Cryptocurrencies have rallied since the election, with bitcoin jumping about 29% to a record of over $88,000 on Monday. 4. Steam Deck 2 Has a Missing Key Component That is a Critical Hit to Valve’s Aspirations for Creating a Flawless Switch 2 Rival Steam Deck 2 Has a Missing Key Component That is a Critical Hit to Valve’s Aspirations for Creating a Flawless Switch 2 Rival Debuted in 2022, Valve’s Steam Deck has been crucial to reviving the handheld gaming space. Within a year of release, more than one million units were shipped to customers, and that number has grown since then, as have the number of handheld competitors from Nintendo, Asus, Lenovo, and more. The origional Steam Deck was a massive success for Valve. (Image via Valve) Last year, Valve refreshed its Steam Deck with an OLED version that brought various upgrades to the system. However, fans have been wondering if the company is working on a Steam Deck 2. While Valve is committed to the successor of the original Steam Deck, it’s still missing a crucial component that is hampering its development. Steam Deck 2 is Missing Performance Upgrades Unlike Switch 2 Steam Deck 2 is still years away from release because Valve hasn’t found the performance upgrades. (Image via Valve) Even though the OLED model isn’t the Steam Deck 2, it packs some impressive improvements just beyond its upgraded display. The handheld has already introduced major upgrades that players demanded from Steam Deck 2, including ******* battery life, storage options, and better cooling. Not to mention, the console comes at the same price point as the original Steam Deck. With all these improvements, players can’t help but wonder what Steam Deck 2 would look like. In a conversation with Dexerto, Valve’s Hardware Engineer Yazan Aldehayyat and Designer Jay Shaw opened up about the next handheld. While acknowledging that Valve is indeed working on Steam Deck 2, Aldehyyat stated that it’s going to be long before it hits the shelves because the company still hasn’t found a substantial leap in hardware. We need to have a generational jump in performance before we make it. We’re just waiting on that, is what it comes down to. As for when this generation’s jump in the handheld’s performance might happen, it is anyone’s guess, but it should happen sooner rather than later. PC Hardware enthusiasts are currently waiting for AMD’s upcoming Z2 Extreme chipset, where performance will jump massively. AMD has also stated that battery life will be a big focus for Z2 Extreme, which aligns perfectly with Valve’s ideology of Steam Deck 2. It wouldn’t be shocking if Valve and AMD collaborated on a variant of the Z2 Extreme for the Steam Deck 2. However, if Valve doesn’t manage to find the performance upgrade it seeks for its next handheld, Nintendo might end up taking control of the market. Its upcoming Switch 2 is looking to be a massive upgrade and will make the best use of its first-party games with upgraded capabilities. Let’s hope Valve figures out the future of Steam Deck soon. What Could Steam Deck 2 Look Like? The Steam Deck successor looks to pack quite a punch. (Image via Valve) While Valve still hasn’t revealed anything related to Steam Deck 2’s hardware, it hasn’t stopped the rumor mill. Leaks suggest that the next handheld from Valve will be powered by the AMD Zen 5 Hawk Point process, using 16C GPU as its central component. This alleged configuration will pack quite a punch and support nearly all modern games. AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture will be the powerhouse for the console. We could also see a massive resolution upgrade to 900, allowing you to run games at 1440x 900, supporting a 16:10 aspect ratio. With such upgrades, Steam Deck 2 will undoubtedly see a jump in price. However, that would be justifiable for gamers who want to have a handy console capable of running all AAA titles on the go. It’s crucial to take these spec rumors with a pinch of salt, as Valve still has not officially stated anything. With that, would you like to see any particular improvement with Steam Deck 2? Let us know in the comments below. 5. Waves of Jan. 6 defendants cite Trump election in request to delay cases Waves of Jan. 6 defendants cite Trump election in request to delay cases Waves of U.S. Capitol riot defendants are citing Donald Trump’s election in requests to delay their ********* prosecutions because of his public pledge to pardon some of the people convicted of ******* on Jan. 6, 2021. In court filings reviewed by CBS News, defense attorneys asked federal judges in Washington, D.C., to postpone proceedings in some of the Jan. 6 cases until 2025, when President-elect Donald Trump takes office. The filings complicate the Justice Department’s ability to conclude its prosecutions — hundreds of which remain active — before the changeover in power. William Pope, a Jan. 6 defendant from Kansas, has filed a new request for a delay, blistering the Justice Department for continuing apace with his prosecution. Pope’s filing cited Trump’s reelection, arguing, “Any further action in these cases is not an ‘administration of justice’ in the public interest as the government claims, but a belligerent disregard for the will of the ********* people, from which all law and governmental power in this country is derived.” In a new request to delay his sentencing, defendant Terry Allen’s attorneys filed a motion saying, “History has shown that President Donald Trump is not shy when it comes to exercising his pardon powers and there is clearly no reason to believe he won’t do as he says.” Allen’s attorneys noted that in Trump’s first term, he “pardoned, commuted, or rescinded the convictions of 237 people,” and “[m]any were controversial.” Some defendants are quoting Trump’s campaign statements in their new court filings. Attorneys for defendant Larry Brock argued that Trump “explicitly campaigned on justice for the January 6 defendants.” They cited Trump’s July 31 interview with the National Association of ****** Journalists, in which he said he’d “‘absolutely’ pardon those convicted in the January 6th prosecutions because ‘they were convicted by a very tough system.'” They also quoted Trump’s claim about Jan. 6 convicts: “‘ome call them prisoners. I call them hostages…release the J6 hostages, Joe. Release them, Joe. You can do it real easy, Joe.'” Brock, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel, was accused of rifling through papers on the desks of senators while amid the mob. Defense attorney Joseph McBride, who has defended several Jan. 6 ********* defendants told CBS News that requests would be made “across the board” to delay cases until Trump takes office. “It would be foolish not to,” he said. “The Justice Department Is still arresting people, which is nuts and pointless. The pardon thing is looming. And I don’t think any of these prosecutions will continue beyond (Trump taking office).” Former federal prosecutor Scott Fredericksen told CBS News he thinks the Justice Department is going to be forced to confront the question of what to do with the cases. “The department will probably say, ‘We’re going to continue with the cases,’ and that the discussion of pardons is not sufficient to warrant delays,” Fredricksen said. The Justice Department didn’t immediately return requests for comment. In court filings, it has opposed requests for delays. In the case of Terry Allen, prosecutors disagreed that a continuance of the case was warranted because “the defendant’s justification at this time is mere speculation.” “The Court should proceed as it would in any other prosecution,” prosecutors argued. “Courts in this jurisdiction have denied similar motions.” Opposing a request to delay the trial of defendant Stephen Baker, the Justice Department argued, “There is a public interest in the prompt and efficient administration of justice. The government and the Court have endeavored to deliver that interest. The government disagrees that a continuance is warranted here, and the Court should proceed as it would in any other prosecution.” But the numbers of delay requests are expected to grow significantly. McBride, the New York-based defense attorney, told CBS News requests are expected by all similarly situated defendants. He said defense attorneys must argue for all of their clients and may not “pick and choose” to ask for delays only for some. In his court filing, Pope included a photo of himself standing next to Trump. “It is now up to the Court to decide if it wishes to expend judicial resources by enduring a taxing schedule in this case,” the filing said. “Ultimately, I will get the same result with a trial or with no trial.” The Justice Department has launched over 1,500 ********* cases in its prosecution of the Capitol siege. According to federal records, approximately 950 defendants have pleaded guilty, and 200 more have been found guilty at trial. Arrests continue, including new cases unsealed over the past few weeks. Fredericksen said a Trump-appointed attorney general could move to have the department dismiss pending Jan. 6 cases — and could opt to reopen and dismiss cases against those who have already been convicted and sentenced to prison. ******** On The U.S. Capitol More More Scott MacFarlane Scott MacFarlane is a congressional correspondent. 6. Jan 6 rioters expect Trump will keep pardon promise Jan 6 rioters expect Trump will keep pardon promise Reuters Out of all of Donald Trump’s supporters, Derrick Evans has a particular reason to be happy with November’s election results – he hopes the president-elect will give him a pardon for participating in the 6 January riots at the US Capitol. “A pardon will be life changing,” said Evans, who was a member of the West Virginia legislature when he and at least 2,000 others stormed the Capitol in 2021. It was part of an effort to overturn the results of the US election, inspired by the false belief that it was Trump, not President Joe Biden, who had won. He reached an agreement with prosecutors which saw him plead guilty to civil disorder and spent three months in federal prison in 2022. On the campaign trail, Trump repeatedly said he would pardon the rioters, whom he has called “patriots” and “political prisoners”. But who exactly will be pardoned – and when – is still an open question. “I believe he’s a man of his word,” Evans told the BBC. In March, Trump wrote on his Truth Social account that one of his first acts as president would be to “Free the January 6 Hostages being wrongfully imprisoned!” He repeated the pledge at a National Association of ****** Journalists forum in Chicago in July. “Oh, absolutely, I would,” he said. “If they’re innocent, I would pardon them.” But he has stopped short of proposing a blanket pardon, at one point telling CNN: “I am inclined to pardon many of them. I can’t say for every single one, because a couple of them, probably they got out of control.” His campaign has previously said decisions would be made “on a case-by-case basis when he is back in the White House”. Arrests still being made The events of 6 January resulted in one of the largest federal investigations in US history. Nearly 600 people have been charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding police officers. Some of those who have been given the longest sentences, such as Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and Enrique Tarrio, leader of the Proud Boys, did not participate in the ********* inside the building. Instead, they were convicted of seditious *********** and other felonies for organising the melee. Arrests are still being made. In an update issued last week, the FBI said it is still looking for nine suspects wanted for violent assaults on police officers. But with Trump – who still maintains, without evidence, that he was the winner of the 2020 election – coming back to the White House, the future of the investigation ******** uncertain. Citing Justice Department sources, NBC News reported that officials are focusing on trying the “most egregious” cases before Trump’s inauguration on 20 January. Delayed hearings In the meantime, several Capitol riot defendants have asked for hearings to be delayed in anticipation of pardons. Among them are Christopher Carnell, a North Carolina man who was found guilty on several riot-related charges earlier in the year. His lawyers asked for a hearing to be delayed last week because of possible “clemency actions relevant to his case”, but the request was turned down. Jonathanpeter Klein, who along with his brother Matthew pleaded guilty to several charges in July, asked for his sentencing hearing, scheduled for 15 November, to be delayed. That request too was turned down. Wendy Via, co-founder of the not-for-profit Global Project Against Hate and Extremism (GPAHE), said that there is already a sense of excitement amongst rioters and their supporters. “Folks on fringe sites are calling for the release of what they are calling the Jan 6 ‘prisoners of war’ or ‘hostages’,” she said. They include Jake Lang, who is charged with a number of ******* including assaulting police officers, and who regularly posts online from his jail cell in New York. After Trump’s victory he wrote on X: “IM COMING HOME!!!! THE JANUARY 6 POLITICAL PRISONERS ARE FINALLY COMING HOME!!!!” “In just 75 days on January 20th 2025, when Donald J Trump is inaugurated as the 47th President of the ******* States, he will pardon all of the J6 Hostages.” Laying low GPAHE also found that some groups plan to lay low until Trump takes office and pardons are made official. One post on a Proud Boys channel on Telegram suggested that members avoid the January inauguration: “Stay home or patronize your local watering ***** and celebrate the inauguration of our President and the imminent release of our Boys.” In a blog post, Via said pardons would “make a mockery of our justice system, and it will send the message to his followers that ********* is a legitimate response to political outcomes they don’t like.” For the moment, the release of everyone charged with riot-related offenses seems unlikely, but non-violent offenders such as Derrick Evans have called for large numbers to be freed. And, he suggested, a pardon would not be enough to compensate him and others for the time they spent behind bars. “I think there needs to be some reparations and restitution involved as well,” he said. 9. Coedely ****** victim’s sister describes driving as ‘too daunting’ Coedely ****** victim’s sister describes driving as ‘too daunting’ BBC Erin Griffiths – with her brother Callum – who she calls her “biggest protector” The sister of a teenager who ***** in a car ****** is scared to learn to drive because of what happened. Callum Griffiths, 19, from Porth was ******* in a ****** in Coedely, Rhondda Cynon Taf, last December, alongside friends, Morgan Smith, 18 and Jesse Owen, 18. Erin Griffiths, 16, can get her provisional licence next year but said she already has anxiety and is planning to put off lessons. “Since Callum, it is a lot more daunting to think about my friends in a car or me in a car. It’s really scary. You never know what can happen to you,” she said. Callum’s family said their hearts were “broken beyond repair” Callum’s smiling face on the wall is the first thing you see when you walk into the living room of his family home. As the anniversary of his ****** approaches, this is clearly a family still trying to work out how to live their lives without him. “It just gets *******,” says mum Natalie. “Because the reality of having to get up every day and live without Callum has really set in. “How do we get up every day knowing our son isn’t here?” The night of the ****** is still vivid in Natalie’s mind. There are memories of the family driving the 15-minute journey to the scene, after receiving a phone call from a friend who lived nearby. “She told me the car was in half and I just remember praying, all the way to Coedely,” she said. “Just praying ‘let Callum be OK – just let him be OK’.” Although they were told at the scene Callum had *****, Natalie said she did not take it in until later. “Our world just crumbled,” she said. “I do feel when we lost Callum we lost a part of ourselves – I am not the person I used to be, my husband is not the same person. “There is a huge void that will never, ever be filled.” Flowers and balloons were left in memory of the three teenagers in December 2023 Last month, an inquest into the three teenagers’ deaths found that the car lost control and hit a bus after travelling at around 50mph (80km/h) into a bend. The family have not yet decided how they will mark the anniversary, but held a party for Callum, who would have turned 20 on 2 November. Natalie Griffiths Callum’s family held a party on what would have been his 20th birthday, raising money for the charity 2wish Cymru which has helped them during the past year Siblings Erin and Callum were very close, with Erin calling him her “best friend and biggest protector”. The 16-year-old, just 15 when her brother *****, said the party has been an important focus and, she admits, a distraction. “Instead of thinking that Callum is not here for his birthday, we have this big celebration,” she said. Natalie Griffiths Erin and her brother Callum were very close Another focus for Natalie has been as a member of a group of grieving families, called Forget Me Not Families Uniting. They are campaigning for changes to the law on new drivers. A graduated driver’s licence could see a limit on the number of passengers young people are allowed to carry, which is a “no brainer”, Natalie believes. But last month, the *** government appeared to rule this out, saying it was not considering any changes. 10. Stellar Blade’s Nier: Automata DLC just makes sense Stellar Blade’s Nier: Automata DLC just makes sense Sony Interactive Entertainment The Stellar Blade and Nier: Automata crossover DLC is on the way, with special items set to be available when the former game updates on November 20. An announcement on the PlayStation Blog reveals that a shop run by Emil, the stone-faced, *****-eyed merchant that you may recognize as the mask Nier: Automata creator Yoko Taro wears out in public, will be available in Stellar Blade. Players can then gain access to 11 new items. While the post doesn’t specify what they are, you can expect some familiar outfits. Video game crossovers aren’t anything new, but this one is very appropriate. Stellar Blade was heavily inspired by Nier: Automata, which is a bit obvious once you realize they’re both games with fantasy-inspired postapocalyptic settings, frenetic combat, and stylish female protagonists. “Nier: Automata left a huge impression on me,” Stellar Blade developer Kim Hyung-tae told IGN ahead of the game’s release. “It made me realize that a game like this could be made, and allowed me to rediscover the kind of game that I want to make.” Each major Stellar Blade update has also added new outfits for Eve, the main character, and Nier: Automata‘s iconic visual design fits right in. The Stellar Blade update is also bringing along new poses for the photo mode, four new costumes, and a new accessory called Symbol of Legacy that changes the appearance of the Tachy Mode, the skill tree players access after a certain point in the game. Other small updates include lip sync support for six new languages, the ability to pick a song at camp, auto-targeting for instant ******, and a “No Ponytail” option under character customization. 11. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese denies asking Premier Roger Cook to shift WA election date Prime Minister Anthony Albanese denies asking Premier Roger Cook to shift WA election date Anthony Albanese has denied asking Roger Cook to shift the date of the WA election to avoid an overlap with the Federal campaign in the first half of next year. The Prime Minister insisted if it were up to him, the Commonwealth would have four-year fixed terms like all the States and Territories, as he ridiculed speculation about election dates. “I have read the election would be in August, September, November, December 7 has probably passed now but I was reading that as the date as well,” he told reporters in Tasmania. “I’m focused on governing. That’s what I’m focused on. I will leave the speculation to others. “The election, I’ve said the whole way through, will be in 2025. It will be called April or before.” The Federal election must be held by May 17 — with the Prime Minister required to call it between 33 and 58 days ahead of polling day — while the WA date is set for March 8. Mr Cook stoked speculation about a March Federal election date when he revealed at The West ***********’s Leadership Matters event on Monday he had sought legal advice about moving WA’s election date if Anthony Albanese required him to. That involved discussions with the electoral commission to understand what complications might arise if the two elections were held close together, such as staffing and the availability of physical polling locations. Mr Cook said he did not care whether the Federal or State election was held first. After dismissing the date speculation, Mr Albanese joked about an early election when asked about Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s comments that the best Labor could gain at this point was a ********* government. “We are now in the thralls, apparently, of an election campaign, perhaps in December, Peter Dutton does not have a single costed policy out there. A white Steam Deck OLED can be yours for $679 A white Steam Deck OLED can be yours for $679 After briefly offering a transparent Steam Deck OLED last year, Valve has announced its next limited edition variant featuring a bold new ******: “white.” It’ll cost you $679 when it’s available on November 18, and it features the exact same hardware as the 1TB Steam Deck OLED. (Most importantly, it sports that gorgeous 7.4-inch display with HDR and a 90Hz refresh rate). There’s also a white carrying case, naturally. While the perils of white console hardware are hard to ignore (especially for a hefty portable that’ll surely trap plenty of hand grease), this new variant may convince early Steam Deck owners to make the jump. As we covered in our review, the Steam Deck OLED’s display looks significantly bolder than the original LCD models, especially with the addition of HDR support. This time around, Valve says it’s also shipping the limited edition white model worldwide where Steam Decks are already available (including Australia). “We’re curious to see what the response is, and will use what we learn to inform future decisions about any potential new ****** variants down the line,” Valve said in an e-mail. “We’ve always said our intent is to continually work on improving Steam Deck, and that’s true from both a software perspective (continuing to ship improvements) and a hardware one (Steam Deck OLED, as well as ongoing work toward the future of Steam Deck and other hardware plans).” Source link #white #Steam #Deck #OLED Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  13. Trump transition official warns Justice Dept staff against ‘resistance’ Trump transition official warns Justice Dept staff against ‘resistance’ By Sarah N. ****** WASHINGTON (Reuters) – An attorney helping President-elect Donald Trump assemble his new administration warned career employees at the U.S. Justice Department on Monday that they could be fired if they tried to resist the ***********’s agenda. “If these career DOJ employees won’t implement President Trump’s program in good ******, they should leave. Those employees who engage in so-called ‘resistance’ against the duly-elected President’s lawful agenda would be subverting ********* democracy,” wrote Mark Paoletta, an attorney at Schaerr Jaffe who is leading Trump’s Justice Department transition team, in a post on X. “Those that take such actions would be subject to disciplinary measures, including termination,” he added. Paoletta could not be immediately reached for further comment. His post on X came in response to a Politico article which reported that many Justice Department career attorneys — civil servants who typically remain in their posts from administration to administration regardless of which party holds the White House — are alarmed by what a second Trump presidency will mean. Trump won a second term in last Tuesday’s presidential election. During his first term from 2017-2021, Trump regularly butted heads with government employees, particularly at the Justice Department. He said that his biggest mistake in office was hiring his first attorney general, Jeff Sessions, who then declined to shut down a probe into contacts between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russian officials. Justice Department employees protested many of Trump’s first-term decisions on multiple occasions. In 2020, a team of federal prosecutors handling the case against Trump loyalist Roger Stone withdrew. One of those prosecutors later told Congress the group left to protest what they felt was political pressure to reduce their sentencing recommendation. Critics also lambasted then-Attorney General Bill Barr for dropping the ********* charges against former national security adviser Michael Flynn and trying to force the ouster of then-U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman in Manhattan, whose office was investigating former Trump attorney Rudolph Giuliani. 14. Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Extended Gameplay Reveals A Raiders-Like Adventure Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Extended Gameplay Reveals A Raiders-Like Adventure The Indiana Jones franchise began in 1981 with Raiders of the Lost Ark, a film that many would argue ******** the best movie in the series. Bethesda and MachineGames’ upcoming game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, takes some influence from each of the three original films. But in the latest extended gameplay video, the Great Circle has more than a passing resemblance with Raiders of the Lost Ark. The parallels start early in the video, when Indy takes an idol from its perch and triggers a trap, much like the opening minutes of Raiders of the Lost Ark. It could be argued that this the incident that taught Indy to use a counterweight when swapping out idols, although that strategy still ******* him in Raiders. A good deal of the tone also feels like it was lifted from Raiders, including the sequence where Indy is at Marshall College, his home away from home when he isn’t hunting down priceless relics. The game’s heroine, Gina, echoes Indy’s first love, Marion Ravenwood, in part because the former has an agenda that doesn’t necessarily line up with his. Indy wants to stop the Nazis from uncovering the secrets of the Great Circle, while Gina is an Italian journalist who just wants to find her missing sister. No Indiana Jones story would be complete without a globe-spanning adventure, and the Great Circle has that as well. Indy’s primary weapons against the ***** guards are usually his fists, or anything that happens to be at hand. The video also teases some of the puzzles that Indy has to solve, as well as some sequences that move into third-person view while Indy navigates hidden tombs. That largely lines up with GameSpot’s early hands-on experience with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which emphasized stealth over combat. And Indy won’t ever ****** or punch a dog in the game. Nazis, however, are fair game for both. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will hit Xbox Series X|S and PC on December 9. A PlayStation 5 port will follow in Spring 2025. Here’s what the ***** expect next ******** markets are back in the spotlight after a slew of government stimulus measures over recent weeks. Friday’s news of a five-year 10 trillion ******** yuan ($1.4 trillion) debt swap program disappointed investors, however, falling short of calls for more direct support for the economy. For many market participants — including Pella Funds’ Jordan Cvetanovski — this means taking a longer view when it comes to investing in the ****** powerhouse. “I think the right way of looking at what China’s up to, really, is to see it as a process,” he told CNBC’s “Street Signs Asia” on Monday. “The markets are always impatient. They want to see a big sugar high immediately, and they want to see a big bazooka … However, as we’ve discovered over many years, the ******** government … does things in a more measured fashion.” Cvetanovski, Pella Funds’ founder, chief investment officer and portfolio manager, added that “more patient, longer-term investors would be rewarded by looking at the ******* picture.” His comments come as China’s Ministry of Finance signaled Friday that more fiscal support could come next year . It also flagged its near-term focus on addressing local government debt. Looking ahead, Paul Cavey, founder and economist at research house East Asia Econ, said there will be more stimulus measures to come, especially given the potential for a hike in tariffs by President-elect Donald Trump. Carey is expecting two types of policies: fiscal support to “resolve some of the excess inventories in the property market,” as well as measures that help promote new segments of growth to cope with any extra tariffs on exports to the U.S, he told CNBC’s “Squawk Box Asia” on Monday. This intense shooter boasts tactical elements and a roguelite structure, with the squad at Crowbar Collective stressing that each mission has ‘hundreds of ways to play’. ****** Mesa to Rogue Point This is the first new release for Crowbar Collective in over ten years if you don’t count the definitive edition of ****** Mesa that dropped on Steam in 2020. ****** Mesa has been a roaring success since day one, securing more than 100,000 reviews on Steam with an overall rating of ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’, so there’s already a strong foundation there for what comes next. To publish Rogue Point, Crowbar Collective has partnered with Team 17, just to give the project an even more solid backing. In Rogue Point, players are pitted against tough and varied enemies across a range of maps. These environments will change with each new engagement, and the gameplay has been described as ‘constantly evolving’. With each match, players will need to manage their economy mechanics, upgrade their operators, and strategise with teammates. It’s a campaign-based cooperative title that plays almost like a round of Counter-Strike, which is pretty innovative. There are plenty of options for customisation, and on the surface, Rogue Point looks like a great shooter – but the proof will be in the inevitable test phases that’ll be pushed out before long. 17. Trump deportation policy run by ‘border czar’ with more power, fewer hurdles Trump deportation policy run by ‘border czar’ with more power, fewer hurdles President Donald Trump (C) holds a law enforcement roundtable on sanctuary cities, in the Roosevelt Room at the White House on March 20, 2018 in Washington, D.C. Trump was joined by Attorney General Jeff Sessions (L), and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, and Thomas Homan, acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Kevin Dietsch | Getty Images President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to carry out his sweeping deportation plans may be able to operate with more power, and less oversight from Congress, than some of his own Cabinet members. That’s because the appointee, former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting director Tom Homan, will not be put directly in charge of the Department of Homeland Security or a sub-agency tasked with addressing immigration issues. Homan will instead be the Trump administration’s “Border Czar,” a title that could grant him significant influence over immigration and border policy without the formal authority — and guardrails — that come with being a Cabinet secretary. Trump announced Homan’s selection in a Sunday night post on his Truth Social platform, putting the immigration hard-liner “in charge of our Nation’s Borders.” Homan will also “be in charge of all Deportation of ******** Aliens back to their Country of Origin,” Trump wrote in the post. Unlike Cabinet nominees — or the roughly 1,200 other federal roles that require Senate confirmation — Homan will not need congressional approval to serve under Trump. And he may be insulated from other forms of Legislative Branch scrutiny, experts told CNBC. “White House appointees are subject to less oversight than Cabinet and sub-Cabinet officials,” said Katherine Hawkins, senior legal analyst for the Project on Government Oversight. “It is much ******* for Congress to enforce subpoenas against White House officials, and they are more likely to cite executive privilege and refuse to testify and have that refusal upheld by courts,” Hawkins said. Those staffers may lack the formal authorization of Congress, but that does not necessarily mean they are subordinate to their Senate-confirmed counterparts. “Who is actually more powerful in practice depends on things like access to the president, and Cabinet and other agency officials’ willingness to refuse White House demands,” Hawkins said. A spokesperson for the Trump transition declined CNBC’s request for comment. Lee Gelernt, an attorney with the ********* Civil Liberties Union who has helped challenge immigration policies during the Trump and Biden administrations, agreed. Homan’s lack of an agency position “will not decrease his influence and may make it ******* to have meaningful checks on his actions,” he said. Faisal Al-Juburi, chief external affairs officer of the immigrant rights advocacy group RAICES, said czars can make major policy impacts “while simultaneously obstructing congressional oversight, which is critical to ensuring accountability of those acting on behalf of the U.S. government.” The posts “create opaque circumstances that make it difficult, if not impossible, to determine who maintains authority over policies that stand to have a wide-ranging impact on the ********* people,” Al-Juburi said. Leading the charge Taken at face value, Trump’s post gives Homan a massive amount of power. When the new administration takes control on Jan. 20, 2025, Homan will be in charge of implementing what was a central promise of Trump’s presidential campaign: deporting millions of undocumented immigrants. Homan’s purview includes, but is “not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security,” Trump wrote. Carrying out a mass-deportation plan would involve unprecedented logistical challenges and require intricate, large-scale cooperation between federal government agencies, local law enforcement sources, host nations and other entities. The process of locating, detaining and removing that many people, including mixed-status families with children, would be fraught, and the costs would be astronomical, NBC News has reported. Homan, 62, has been one of the loudest supporters of the policy. A regular on Fox News and a speaker at the 2024 *********** National Convention, he reportedly vowed earlier this year to “run the biggest deportation force this country has ever seen.” Homan has been called the father of the Trump administration’s highly controversial “zero tolerance” border policy, which resulted in the separation of thousands of immigrant families and was reversed by Trump in 2018. When asked in a recent interview with CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” whether mass deportations could happen without family separation, Homan said, “Of course there is. Families can be deported together.” Gelernt said that given Homan’s actions during Trump’s first administration and his subsequent statements, he expects the appointment will “have far reaching anti-asylum, anti-immigrant implications.” Read more CNBC politics coverage How Homan will be able to wield his power is unclear. “It is extremely doubtful whether anyone on the White House staff, the sort of person sometimes called a czar, could actually exercise legal authority,” Professor John Harrison of the University of Virginia School of Law told Congress in 2009. But “as a practical matter,” those staffers can still wield significant influence over policy decisions, Harrison told CNBC in an interview Monday. Hawkins pointed to Trump senior policy aide Stephen Miller, saying he “was probably the single most influential policy voice on immigration and border issues” during the ***********’s first White House term. “DHS officials pushed back to some extent,” she said, “but Miller lasted the longest and was closest to Trump and usually got his way.” Miller is expected to be tapped as Trump’s deputy chief of staff for policy, NBC reported Monday. Valorant Makes Tons of Videos on Every Agent But 1 Agent is Treated Like an Outcast Valorant Makes Tons of Videos on Every Agent But 1 Agent is Treated Like an Outcast Valorant, Riot Games’ tactical first-person shooter, has become a phenomenon not just for its fast-paced and competitive gameplay but also for its rich, immersive narrative. In addition to sharp aim and tactical strategy, players connect with the game’s diverse cast of agents: each one with their own intricate backstory, motives, and personal struggles (that can be uncovered through voice lines and in-game dialogues). Players are curious about the lore behind the game and all its agents. | Image Credit: Riot Games From Phoenix’s fiery ambition to Sage’s deep sense of duty, each agent is uniquely crafted. Almost all of the agents have received tons of lore through in-game documents, voice lines, and even cinematic trailers. However, there’s one agent whose backstory seems strangely absent. And that agent is none other than Sova, who has been part of the game from the start. The Curious Case of Sova in Valorant While being one of the original characters, Sova doesn’t have much backstory. | Image Credit: Riot Games For those unfamiliar, Sova is a key recon specialist (initiator) in Valorant, known for his exceptional archery skills and his ability to track enemies with his bow. While his gameplay abilities and steady presence on the battlefield have made him a fan favorite, his personal story is notably underdeveloped compared to many of his fellow agents. In comparison to the rich backstories of other agents, Sova’s lore feels practically nonexistent. For instance, Phoenix’s narrative is filled with the challenges of mastering his powers and his ******* to prove himself, while Sage’s past is rooted in her solemn duties and deep emotional weight. Even Breach, who shares a similarly reserved nature, has more context around his explosive abilities and history. But Sova ******** an almost blank slate when it comes to narrative. This gap in his backstory becomes even more apparent when considering the character of Fade, one of the newer characters has a deep lore that delves into her dark, mysterious powers. This curious absence of details has left many players puzzled and even questioning whether Sova’s backstory is somehow less important to the larger narrative. The mystery behind him has sparked widespread speculation, and players are actively discussing it. Comment byu/Nimyron from discussion inVALORANT Comment byu/Nimyron from discussion inVALORANT Comment byu/Nimyron from discussion inVALORANT Comment byu/Nimyron from discussion inVALORANT The thread is filled with player sharing their opinion about the agent and suggesting that there is another agent they know less about. This discussion shows that players are engaged not only in the gameplay, but also want to know about the agent’s backstory. An Outcast or Just Waiting for His Moment? Players want to learn more about Sova and various new characters. | Image Credit: Riot Games While it’s clear that Sova’s lore is minimal compared to other agents, it’s important to remember that Valorant’s story is still evolving. With each new agent, map, and update, players are slowly piecing together more about the agents and their relationships with one another. This ongoing development could mean that Sova’s backstory is simply waiting for its moment to be revealed. Though Riot hasn’t delved deeply into his past yet, there’s potential for more to come. The few details we have learned suggest that Sova is one of the most honest and reliable agents. He was also the first to meet his counterpart from the Omega universe, an encounter that hints at a deeper story waiting to be told. For now, Sova ******** an outcast in Valorant’s narrative landscape. His enigmatic personality, combined with the sparse lore surrounding him, creates a sense of mystery that both intrigues and frustrates players hoping for more insight into his past. In the end, whether Riot Games decides to explore his story further or leave it as an unanswered question (deliberately) is still uncertain. But for now, Sova stands as one of the most intriguing and underdeveloped figures in the game’s rich narrative landscape. Spyro Reignited Trilogy is flying onto Xbox Game Pass Spyro Reignited Trilogy is flying onto Xbox Game Pass Activision After a little tease earlier today, Xbox quickly confirmed that the Spyro Reignited Trilogy is coming to Xbox Game Pass shortly. Best of all, it’s hitting multiple tiers, including Game Pass Standard. Spyro Reignited Trilogy includes Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon, and will be added to the subscription service on November 12 — so, tomorrow. It’ll be available on Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Standard. We knew the news was coming, but didn’t expect Xbox to announce it so quickly after an earlier post on X. The Xbox Game Pass account posted a 30-second video of a chest from the series, which the Spyro account responded to. — Spyro (@SpyroTheDragon) November 11, 2024 The platformer trilogy has been available on Xbox since 2018, and is currently available on the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S for $40. However, putting it on Game Pass gives it a boost in terms of newer players who might’ve missed the Spyro train. The original trilogy was developed by Insomniac Games, which is now owned by PlayStation Studios, so this at first seems to be an odd choice for Game Pass. PlayStation’s older over-ear headset, the Pulse 3D, is available for $87 in Walmart’s ****** Friday *****. This is only a $13 discount off its usual $100 price, but the Pulse 3D rarely receives discounts. Walmart’s deal applies to the Midnight ****** edition. 24. Salesforce record highs — plus, a possible stock to buy after Tuesday earnings Salesforce record highs — plus, a possible stock to buy after Tuesday earnings Every weekday the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer holds a “Morning Meeting” livestream at 10:20 a.m. ET. Here’s a recap of Monday’s key moments. 1. The S & P 500 edged higher Monday, extending Friday’s postelection all-time highs. The tech-heavy Nasdaq was basically flat. Club chip names Advanced Micro Devices , Broadcom , and Nvidia were lower — so were the rest of our Super Six except for Alphabet . The megacap tech rally pause suggests the market rally is broadening out. Highlights for the week include two key inflation prints — the consumer price index Wednesday and the producer price index Thursday — and retail sales Friday. Club name Home Depot and Disney report earnings on Tuesday morning and Thursday morning, respectively. 2. Salesforce shares jumped to an all-time intraday high Monday after the company announced late Friday plans to hire 1,000 new salespeople for its Agentforce tool. That’s a “positive demand signal” for the artificial intelligence platform and a major turnaround from the weakness it saw earlier this year due to a slowdown in demand, said Club portfolio director Jeff Marks. Wall Street firm Jefferies boosted its Salesforce price target to $400 per share from $350, implying 40% updside from Friday’s close. The analysts said their industry checks indicate increased interest in larger deals after Salesforce’s annual Dreamforce conference in September. This year’s event showcased the company’s artificial intelligence capabilities. We haven’t “heard this sentiment around Salesforce for quite some time,” noted Marks. 3. Home Depot’s third-quarter results this week are expected to be soft, with same-store sales down year over year. Marks said, however, the Club would be buyers of any post-earning pullback in anticipation of a rebound once mortgage rates cool off. A new housing turnover cycle will likely spark demand for home upgrades playing right into Home Depot’s strengths. The stock was up more than 1% Monday, suggesting investors have already priced in the weaker print and were looking ahead to its recovery as the Federal Reserve continues to cut interest rates.
