  1. Blizzard has released remastered versions of Warcraft 1 and 2 Blizzard has released remastered versions of Warcraft 1 and 2 Blizzard has simultaneously announced and released “fully remastered versions” of Warcraft 1 and 2. The titles were revealed during an ongoing Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct stream. “These remasters have brand new hand drawn visuals that capture the original art style from each game, and you’ll be able to swap between the original graphics and the remastered versions in real time,” said Brad Chan, senior manager of Warcraft RTS. Blizzard has “added modern controls” for Warcraft 1, while both games include various UI and UX improvements. The studio is also releasing Warcraft 3: Reforged Patch 2.0, which “overhauls the environments and lighting and revamps the user interface”, according to Chan. “In addition, we are uprezzing all classic Warcraft 3 assets to HD.” All three titles are available as part of the Warcraft Remastered Battle Chest, which is priced at $39.99. 2. Is GPT-5 in trouble? Report suggests that AI has plateaued Is GPT-5 in trouble? Report suggests that AI has plateaued Viralyft / Unsplash OpenAI’s next-generation Orion model of ChatGPT, which is both rumored and denied to be arriving by the end of the year, may not be all it’s been hyped to be once it arrives, according to a new report from The Information. Citing anonymous OpenAI employees, the report claims the Orion model has shown a “far smaller” improvement over its GPT-4 predecessor than GPT-4 showed over GPT-3. Those sources also note that Orion “isn’t reliably better than its predecessor [GPT-4] in handling certain tasks,” specifically coding applications, though the new model is notably stronger at general language capabilities, such as summarizing documents or generating emails. The Information’s report cites a “dwindling supply of high-quality text and other data” on which to train new models as a major factor in the new model’s insubstantial gains. In short, the AI industry is quickly running into a training data bottleneck, having already stripped the easy sources of social media data from sites like X, Facebook, and YouTube (the latter on two different occasions.) As such, these companies are increasingly having difficulty finding the sorts of knotty coding challenges that will help advance their models beyond their current capabilities, slowing down their pre-release training. That reduced training efficiency has massive ecological and commercial implications. As frontier-class LLMs grow and further push their parameter counts into the high trillions, the amount of energy, water, and other resources is expected to increase six-fold in the next decade. This is why we’re seeing Microsoft try to restart Three Mile Island, AWS buy a 960 MW plant, and Google purchase the output of seven nuclear reactors, all to provide the necessary power for their growing menageries of AI data centers — the nation’s current power infrastructure simply can’t keep up. In response, as TechCrunch reports, OpenAI has created a “foundations team” to circumvent the lack of appropriate training data. Those techniques could involve using synthetic training data, such as what Nvidia’s Nemotron family of models can generate. The team is also looking into improving the model’s performance post-training. Orion, which was originally thought to be the code name for OpenAI’s GPT-5, is now expected to arrive at some point in 2025. Whether we’ll have enough available power to see it in action, without browning out our municipal electrical grids, ******** to be seen. 3. Special counsel Jack Smith seeks pause Special counsel Jack Smith seeks pause Special counsel Jack Smith speaks to members of the media at the U.S. Department of Justice building in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 1, 2023. Saul Loeb | AFP | Getty Images Special counsel Jack Smith asked a federal appeals court Wednesday to pause proceedings in his effort to overturn a judge’s decision to dismiss the ********* classified documents case against President-elect Donald Trump and two other defendants. Smith’s request cited Trump’s election last week to a second term in the White House. On Friday, the special counsel cited that same reason in asking a federal judge in Washington, D.C., for a pause in proceedings in another ********* case, where Trump is charged with ******* related to his attempt to reverse his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. That request was granted. Both moves reflect the expectation that the Department of Justice will drop both ********* cases against Trump because of his election. DOJ policy says that the department cannot criminally prosecute a sitting president. But even if that policy was not in effect, Trump has the power as president to order his attorney general, who will head the DOJ, to toss out both cases. Trump on Wednesday announced that he would nominate the controversial Florida congressman Matt Gaetz as his attorney general. NBC News reported earlier Wednesday that Smith and his team of prosecutors in the special counsel’s office intend to resign before Trump is sworn in as president in January. Trump was expected to ***** Smith if he did not quit. On Tuesday, a New York state judge granted a request by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for a one-week delay in proceedings in a third ********* case against Trump to give prosecutors time to consider how his electoral victory affects that case. Trump is scheduled to be sentenced in the case on Nov. 26 on nearly three dozen counts of falsifying business records related to a 2016 hush money payment to ***** star Stormy Daniels. Florida federal court Judge Aileen Cannon earlier this year dismissed the ********* case against Trump in which Smith had accused the *********** of illegally withholding classified government records after leaving office in early 2021 and obstructing efforts by officials to recover them. Cannon, who was nominated by Trump, also tossed out obstruction charges against Trump’s valet, Walt Nauta, and a worker at his Mar-a-Lago resort, Carlos de Oliveira. Cannon ruled that Smith’s appointment as special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland, who heads the DOJ, violated a clause in the U.S. Constitution that regulates how government officials are appointed. Smith asked the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals to overturn Cannon’s ruling. But in its filing to that court on Wednesday, Smith’s office wrote, “As a result of the election held on November 5, 2024, one of the defendants in this case, Donald J. Trump, is expected to be certified as President-elect on January 6, 2025, and inaugurated on January 20, 2025.” Read more CNBC politics coverage “The Government respectfully requests that the Court hold this appeal in abeyance— and stay the deadline for the Government’s reply brief, which is currently due on November 15, 2024 — until December 2, 2024, to afford the Government time to assess this unprecedented circumstance and determine the appropriate course going forward consistent with Department of Justice policy,” the filing said. The filing also said that if the delay is granted, prosecutors will inform the appeals court “of the result of its deliberations — and, if appropriate, file its reply brief — no later than December 2, 2024.” Trump is charged in Atlanta state court ******* related to his attempt to reverse President Joe Biden’s White House win in 2020. But Trump is not expected to stand trial in that case while serving as president. However, the case could be stayed until he leaves office in 2029. 4. A Singaporean AI startup is trying to disrupt market research industry A Singaporean AI startup is trying to disrupt market research industry Artificial intelligence is aiming to disrupt a 100-year-old industry. Finding ways to attract consumers to buy packaged goods stretches back to the 1920s when ********* psychologist Daniel Starch created the world’s first market research study. Today, the global market research industry is worth an estimated $87.7 billion and is expected to grow by another $15 billion in the next four years, with artificial intelligence’s rise one of the major contributing factors. One company hoping to lead that disruption is Ai Palette. Founded in Singapore in 2018, the startup provides AI-powered market research with real-time predictive analytics. Rival firms include ZoomInfo Sales, Trajaan and Brandwatch Consumer Intelligence, all of which deploy a variety of technology to comb through consumer data and marketing trends. Using more than 61 billion data points from 24 countries, Ai Palette’s platform – running for the past four years – generates new concepts for brands based on identified trends, transforming traditional market research in the process. Somsubhra Gan Choudhuri, co-founder and CEO Ai Palette, said AI can take up much of the brain power usually done by people. “For example, a company wants to launch a new juice in a market like Thailand, our platform will tell them what kind of juice they should launch, along with how they should position it, so that it is successful in the market,” he told CNBC’s “CNBC Tech: The Edge.” “And we do that using the power of artificial intelligence by analyzing the big data around food to identify what are the latest trends out there,” he added. Before co-founding Ai Palette, Choudhuri worked in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry. He said firms are increasingly unable to keep up with fast changing consumer tastes and are unable to predict popular trends from one year to the next. “That’s when I came across AI and machine learning. As I learned more about it, it became quite obvious to me that it’s just a matter of time before AI impacts every industry,” said Choudhuri. Big manufacturers jump on board Part of Ai Palette’s technology includes the ability to analyze as much as 39 different factors to predict the future trajectory of a trend. That has caught the attention of some of the world’s major food and beverage brands, such as Diageo, Nestlé, and Pepsico. Symrise, a company that works with brands to manufacture ingredients and products such as scents, uses Ai Palette to pull data from an array of sources, such as social media and online reviews. A single analysis is then published for the manufacturer to interpret. Food brand Pringles, known for its flavored potato chips sold in 140 countries worldwide, also uses Ai Palette to understand snack preferences across four different markets. The platform has helped introduce localized products in the developing markets of Thailand and Indonesia. Cereal giant Kellogg, meanwhile, used Ai Palette during the Covid-19 pandemic to trawl through online content from Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand in four languages. The cereal maker managed to identify trending recipes for foods and incorporated them into a new breakfast cereal, such as crispy calamari flavor. Despite the technological advances, traditional methods remain a part of the process, said Conor Delahunty, vice president for Global Sensory & Consumer Insights at Symrise. One vital element ********, so far at least, beyond the clutches of automation and technology. “We still have to taste the product, because our artificial intelligence cannot do that yet,” said Delahunty. Public and private backing As AI development gathers pace, so does interest from investors. Venture capital firm 500 Global invests in entrepreneurs who it believes are building game-changing companies. It has supported over 2,900 startups with a combined portfolio valuation of over $300 billion. Vishal Harnal, global managing partner of 500 Global, has his eye on startups with a “very specific sector” focus and that are “tackling big problems that no one is maybe looking at right now.” Ai Palette ticked his boxes for an investment. “What they really loved was that we are trying to disrupt a very large and traditional industry like the CPG [consumer packaged goods] industry where the companies are very traditional and there has not been much disruption,” said Choudhuri. Along with VC investors, Ai Palette has had the backing of the Singapore government, which is committing more than three quarters of a billion Singaporean dollars ($7,500,000) to AI development to strengthen its AI ecosystem. The startup also raised $5.7 million in a funding round in March, with funding going towards the expansion of its AI insights tool and a new “FoodGPT” chatbot. 5. Caitlin Clark’s morning on the LPGA Tour: Shanked shots, pured drives and so many fans Caitlin Clark’s morning on the LPGA Tour: Shanked shots, pured drives and so many fans BELLAIR, Fla. — There were hushed tones and whispers as 6:30 came and went, as each minute ticked closer to the 7 a.m. tee time. Was there traffic? Has anyone seen her? LPGA and tournament organizers, eager to see Wednesday go off without a hiccup, fretted the day would instead begin with one. Then, around 19 minutes before her tee time, Caitlin Clark strolled onto the driving range at the Pelican Golf Club. Casual and cool in head-to-toe Nike, an official carrying her bag to the far end where cameras were set up to document her first swings. She thinned the first couple, but soon enough was launching them into the sun as it rose over the tree line. An introduction to her caddie, an insistence to him that she would not care if a club was dropped along the next 18 holes, and a cart ride later, Clark was standing on the first tee box at The Annika next to its namesake and Nelly Korda, the No. 1 golfer in the world — with all the attention on her, a 16 handicap. This is Caitlin Clark’s normal but something extraordinary for this golf tournament, a crowd that swelled to in the thousands, following the biggest women’s basketball star in the world hit a little white ball. “We’ve messaged a little on Instagram beforehand but to get to spend some time with her and to see the influence that she has on people, bringing people out here, and to see how amazing of an influence she is just for sports, was really cool to see firsthand today,” Korda said. So how is Caitlin Clark’s golf swing? In a word, relatable. The Athletic sent multiple videos of her swings during Wednesday’s pro-am to golf coach Dana Dahlquist, who works with Bryson DeChambeau, among others. Dahlquist’s biggest takeaway was, like a lot of amateurs, Clark doesn’t load properly into her left side and doesn’t get the hands to square the club face early enough. So by the time she gets to impact, she has to “stand up” to attempt to strike the ball with a square face, which reduces the potential for power, speed, etc. “For ******** golfers, it’s an interesting thing that all golfers that are not high-level players struggle with the same thing,” Dahlquist said. “They tend to somewhat spin out, tend to have the face more often and if you’re taking lessons it’s a good balance between educating your hands how the club releases and then learning to get to your left side appropriately so you can straighten out your golf ball and make good contact.” At the same time, Clark’s elite athleticism and understanding of her body still allow her to recover and generate considerable clubhead speed. Her first tee shot was on the same line as Korda’s, and only around 20 yards behind Korda, averaging 269 yards off the tee this year. Even if her approach game leaves her left of her target with a tendency to pull her irons, she always had the length to get to the green. Clark said she first began playing golf with a pink set of junior clubs, going to the course in Iowa with her dad, and watching Rory McIlroy on TV. She’s since upgraded to Callaway, and in advance of this week (set up through Gainbridge, a title sponsor for this LPGA Tour stop and one of Clark’s sponsors) has been taking lessons from former LPGA pro Martha Foyer-Faulconer in Indianapolis, Golf Week reported. Golf and basketball fans swarmed Clark at the end of her pro-am on Wednesday. (Ray Seebeck / USA Today Sports) Clark said following the end of the Indiana Fever’s playoffs she hoped to become a professional golfer in the offseason. It was a joke taken seriously in some quarters, to her surprise, but Clark does want to play competitive golf — against her friends, for bragging rights. “That’s what’s been fun about it. It’s challenging,” Clark said. Pro golf has occasionally been accused of being too thirsty for attention from other professional athletes and celebrities, eager to bring their youthful energy and audiences to a sport that skews older. That can lead to awkward fits and partnerships that come off as inauthentic. Clark and the LPGA — this is her second pro-am appearance, after a 2023 PGA Tour John Deere Classic showing — is not that. She is a golfer, casually and comfortably speaking the lingo and dropping Pebble Beach as her bucket list course. She friggin’ cleans the grooves of her irons with a tee as she waits for her next shot. But she faces unique challenges compared to the rest of us, like LPGA ***** lining up to take selfies with her as she walks up the 18th fairway. Or doing a walk-and-talk up No. 7 with Golf Channel, then immediately having to swing — Clark asked for and received a mulligan after chunking her shot 100 yards, and ultimately decided she was done with the ***** after airmailing the green. “I’m just the average golfer. I’m going to hit some good, I’m going to hit some bad. It is what it is,” Clark said. If anything was surprising about Clark’s game, it was how the famously competitive WNBA Rookie of the Year could shrug and laugh off even the worst of shots — a shanked tee shot on the third ***** sent a portion of the crowd ducking for cover. Clark played with Korda on the front nine and then Sorenstam on the back nine. While the former said she was more focused on getting ready for the tournament and light conversation, the latter did offer Clark some swing thoughts. “It was more just tempo. She hits it a little quick,” Sorenstam said. “She played with Nelly on the front and Nelly is about power, so of course when you play with someone like that you want to swing ******* and faster. Now when it’s windy, I’m like, just got to calm down, find the tempo, and try to make sure that club face is more square to the target.” The Athletic’s Gabby Herzig contributed to this story. The Next *********’s Creed Set Right after World War 1 Could Do What Call of Duty Did With ****** Ops The Next *********’s Creed Set Right after World War 1 Could Do What Call of Duty Did With ****** Ops For more than a decade, the *********’s Creed franchise has taken players on epic journeys through history, traveling through Ancient Egypt, Renaissance Italy, and even Viking-era Britain. But as the series continues to evolve, many fans are asking whether the franchise has exhausted its historical settings. The ******* for something fresh and bold has never been louder. The franchise needs to start making some changes to rejuvenate its playerbase. | Credit: Ubisoft YouTube Channel Instead of sticking to the tried-and-true formula, what if the franchise decides to take a bold pivot? Just like Call of Duty has split into its mainstream and ****** Ops sub-series, *********’s Creed should adopt a dual-franchise approach. This would allow the franchise to remain rooted in its historical roots while also looking into modern, untapped eras. Since the next installment is set in feudal Japan, the one after that should be set after World War I, particularly the Weimar Republic. A New Vision for Modern *********’s Creed By taking a dual approach, the franchise can keep its content fresh and provide players with new stories. | Image Credit: Ubisoft The core concept behind the *********’s Creed franchise has always been about exploring how the Assassins and Templars shape world events through covert action. They are often hidden in the shadows of larger historical moments. However, after more than a decade of following the different historical settings, it’s time for the series to evolve. Ubisoft should take a new direction with the series and adopt a parallel timeline approach: one mainline series that focuses on historical settings (like the typical installments before it), and another sub-series, which focuses on a more modern setting, mostly in the 20th century. This would allow the franchise to explore untold stories from more recent history while still preserving its classic historical adventures. So, what better way to start this modern-era approach than by setting the next *********’s Creed game in the aftermath of World War I? Players on social media and gaming forums have been vocal about this idea, and the Weimar Republic stands out as the perfect setting. The Weimar Republic (1919–1933) was a time of intense political and social disorder in Germany. It followed World War I and the country was suffering from economic instability, ******** political movements, and the rise of extremism. This volatile environment provides a mix of cultural innovation and political chaos which is the perfect backdrop for an *********’s Creed game. Comment byu/Cosplayinsanity from discussion inassassinscreed Comment byu/Cosplayinsanity from discussion inassassinscreed Comment byu/Cosplayinsanity from discussion inassassinscreed Comment byu/Cosplayinsanity from discussion inassassinscreed The whole thread is filled with players expressing their interest in the strategy of dividing the frnahsie into two. This way they get to experience covert espionage gameplay in various eras and not just in historical times. Why Modernizing the Franchise Matters A title set in the modern era will showcase the potential of the franchise and how it can create engaging gameplay. | Image Credit: Ubisoft The world of *********’s Creed has always centered on the idea that history is secretly shaped by the invisible hands of the Assassins and hidden organizations, operating in the background to influence the course of important world events. However, these stories set in the past are compelling but they are starting to feel somewhat limited and repetitive. The series has already covered a wide variety of periods in history, from the Crusades to Ancient Greece. This has created a question in many’s minds: what’s next? Is there any more unexplored historical setting that could hold the same level of intrigue? To reflect on these questions and take the series into a new era, Ubisoft should pivot toward the modern era. The starting point should be the Weimar Republic as it would be perfect for the series to bring its unique brand of stealth, combat, and historical with the intriguing and haunting backdrop of Germany after WW1. This would allow players to engage with issues like political events, social movements, and espionage, all while retaining the core principles of the series: stealth, freedom, and shaping the course of history. The dual approach will help gamers as the titles will not feel repetitive and provide a fresh view of the modern era. In the end, this is just a speculation and everything depends on Ubisoft, if it ever decides to change its method and try something new, Weiman Republic is the perfect start for a modern installment in the iconic series. 9. Tesla initiates sixth Cybertruck recall in a year Tesla initiates sixth Cybertruck recall in a year New Tesla Cybertruck vehicles parked at a logistics drop zone in Seattle on Aug. 22, 2024. M. Scott Brauer | Bloomberg | Getty Images Tesla is recalling 2,431 Cybertrucks to replace defective drive inverters, according to notices made public by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Wednesday. It’s the sixth recall of the Cybertruck since the angular steel pickup went on ***** about a year ago. The Cybertruck sells in the U.S. for a base price of around $80,000. Tesla addressed the previous Cybertruck recall with an over-the-air software update to fix an issue that caused images from the truck’s backup cameras to not display correctly after the driver shifted into reverse. The latest Cybertruck recall requires the replacement of a part called a drive inverter, which provides power to the wheels of the vehicle. “If the inverter stops producing torque, the driver loses the ability to apply torque to the vehicle using the accelerator pedal resulting in a loss of propulsion, which may increase the risk of a collision,” Tesla wrote in a statement. The Cybertruck became the third-best-selling fully electric vehicle in the U.S. during the third quarter of 2024, behind Telsa’s Model Y and Model 3 EVs. Tesla is currently facing four known NHTSA investigations looking into possible safety defects in its vehicles. The most serious investigation concerns whether the company’s premium driver assistance system, marketed as “Full Self-Driving Supervised,” is safe to use in reduced visibility conditions such as glaring sunlight and fog. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has clashed with NHTSA and other federal regulators for years. That tension is now in the spotlight following the election victory last week of President-elect Donald Trump. As the principal backer of Trump’s campaign, Musk has been granted a role in a new office Trump called the Department of Government Efficiency. While the office hasn’t yet been formed or funded by Congress, Musk has said he intends to use his influence to cut federal spending and regulations, and to change federal motor vehicle safety standards that are implemented and enforced, in part, by NHTSA. 10. Klay Thompson returned to the Bay, but Stephen Curry had the last splash Klay Thompson returned to the Bay, but Stephen Curry had the last splash SAN FRANCISCO — It was rather early for his “Night, Night” celebration, the move Steph Curry does to declare a victory secured. “I almost pulled a Si Woo Kim,” Curry said of the golfer who in September did the Golden State Warriors star’s signature after a clutch chip-in on ***** No. 16 before eventually losing the Presidents Cup on ***** No. 18. “But thankfully, we were able to finish it. … Yeah, a little **********.” Up four with 26.4 seconds remaining, after hitting Dallas Mavericks center Dereck Lively II with a couple of crossovers before drilling a 3-pointer from the top, Curry’s international trademark appeared organically. Emotion made it hard to prioritize score and clock. The adrenaline and testosterone, the euphoria of supremacy, rendered win probability secondary. A moment had been orchestrated. A message had been enunciated. It had to be punctuated. So Curry roared at the raucous Chase Center crowd, thunderous enough this night to evoke memories of Oracle Arena. He tugged at the Golden State across his jersey and pounded his chest with a fist. Then he turned to the cameras, and into the eyes of millions, and let his competitive arrogance speak to anyone else who’d dare leave his side for greener pastures. “You better stay here!” Curry yelled, emphasizing location with a double point to the hardwood on which he stood. “You better stay here!” STEPHEN CURRY NIGHT NIGHT pic.twitter.com/SZtkcgORWi — NBA on **** (@NBAonTNT) November 13, 2024 Tuesday night’s NBA Cup opener was all about Klay Thompson and the affinity he’s garnered from Warriors world. Hundreds of Golden State employees lined his walkway into the arena. Thousands of fans donned a white sailor’s cap in his honor. After a one-minute tribute video, Thompson basked in a minute-long ovation featuring enough sentiment to crumble his facade of indifference. As he’d done so many times before, Thompson sent a wave of chills through the arena. A Bay Area legend was back. A beloved cohort of a dynasty was home. This night began as a ballad to Captain Klay. It ended with a reminder it was Curry’s ship. “Yeah,” Thompson said after the game, “it hurts to be on the other side of one of his flurries. The guy got hot at the end and made some ridiculous shots. Being on the other end, it sucks.” On the floor with at least five future Hall of Famers, Curry was the best player when it mattered most. Four months before he turns 37. Down 114-108 with just over three minutes remaining, Curry ran off 10 straight points. Neither Luka Dončić nor Kyrie Irving nor Klay Thompson could answer Curry. He scored 12 points in the final 3:10. He finished with a game-high 37 points — to go with his 9 assists and 6 rebounds — as the Warriors improved to 9-2 with a 120-117 win. Two nights after closing out Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in Oklahoma City, and Jayson Tatum in Boston before that, Curry again declared his eliteness. Undoubtedly, he wanted his Splash Brother to hear him loudest. A mindset that honors their relationship, considering they are bonded by their competitive spirits as much as their ********* prowess. Curry was determined not to give Thompson the satisfaction of victory. The overflow of admiration was enough. Curry stayed in the tunnel during the playing of the tribute video, dodging the emotion he was sure to feel. Likewise, Draymond Green got the video delivered to him early so he could watch it and get the feels out of the way. Curry didn’t even talk to Thompson until a pregame hug right before tipoff. On the first play of the game, Thompson took Curry into the post, endeavoring to use his height advantage over the point guard. He drew a foul on Curry, who was aggressive and physical because, as Green said, he wanted to take the ball from Klay. “I blacked out on that one,” Curry said. “I wasn’t going to let him score and I fouled him.” He got the steal the next time Thompson posted him, stripping him under the basket. A third time, Curry forced Thompson into a bad shot. This is gonna take some getting used to pic.twitter.com/95RPyz4HAJ — NBA on **** (@NBAonTNT) November 13, 2024 When Curry dropped in a floater in the second quarter, drawing the foul on Thompson in the process, he shot a taunting stare at his former backcourt mate. “I knew he’d come in ready to go,” Green said. “But when you see him express that type of emotion, everybody else just falls in line. I try to lead in that category. When he’s up, I move to the side, let him do his thing and be his support. He was absolutely incredible tonight, and I knew he’d be locked in from the get-go.” Coincidentally, in denying Klay, Curry underscored that he doesn’t have (a) Klay. Golden State outscored Dallas by 24 points in Curry’s 35 minutes. In the 13 minutes he sat, the Mavericks outscored the hosts by 21 points. The Warriors find themselves on this promising start because of their depth. But the league’s highest-scoring bench — which still outscored Dallas’ bench, 42-22 — struggled to score when Curry sat. And with Green and Andrew Wiggins mostly resting with him, the Warriors’ bench was overwhelmed by the dynamism of Dončić and Irving. And Klay. Jonathan Kuminga, who finished with 16 points, is the best bench option to be an offensive anchor, but his opportunities are limited by minutes and sometimes lineups. Buddy Hield, who is featured offensively, was effective inside the arc but is not as potent when he’s not raining 3s. The Replacement Splash Brother has been revelatory this season but was 2-for-8 in the matchup against his predecessor, and the Warriors’ offense suffered. Meanwhile, the Mavericks could stagger their stars and keep a threat on the court. And Thompson gives them a potent third option when he’s on. And Tuesday he was on, to the tune of 6-for-12 from 3 and 22 points. He came into the game having made 2 of 13 the previous two games. He scored eight points in the fourth quarter, including two open 3s in front of the Warriors’ bench. The first was over a closeout from Curry, who sagged off Thompson too far. The second put the Mavericks ahead 110-105 with 5:17 remaining. And it unleashed the verbal and physical banter on his former shipmates. 𝑺𝑷𝑳𝑨𝑺𝑯 pic.twitter.com/JG6NB3p1IJ — Dallas Mavericks (@dallasmavs) November 13, 2024 “He did a little terrible shimmy,” Green said. “It was awful.” “He knows better than that,” Curry said. Certainly, Curry knew he’d hear it from his fellow dynasty engineer if Thompson came home and got the dub against the Dubs. Watching Thompson stunt on them was even more motivation. The reigning Western Conference champions would now have to deal with Commodore Curry. Ahead a point, just over 30 seconds remaining, Curry jogged up court as the tension crescendoed. He burned away precious seconds with a string of between-the-leg dribbles, waiting for the perfect time to *******. One screen got Dončić switched onto Curry. Then a second screen put Lively in his sights. Curry found his prey. He pounded two dribbles while hopping right, setting up a sudden crossover left, getting Lively’s momentum going in that direction. Then Curry yanked a crossover back to his right, lining himself up for a *****-on 3-pointer from the top. This splash was for Klay. “That’s my guy, my friend, my road dog for 13 years,” Curry said. “There’s a lot of history, so you’re going to have a lot of back and forth. Some of it was competitive, some of it was fun. … It was an unreal night, for sure, all the way around.” Almost immediately after his postgame interview, Thompson was back in his old confines. Fully dressed, wearing his captain’s hat, he hung out in the weight room and practice court he once roamed. Spending time with players and coaches and trainers on his former team. The rivalry had morphed back into brotherhood. The company is testing a universal Share button in a new Preview Build of Windows 11, now available to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta channels. While the Share button availability can vary depending on the app on Windows, this new function will enable a Share button throughout the Windows 11 operating system, including in the taskbar and Start menu. Users will be able to send files, links, or text conveniently from their desktops. But wait, there’s more! Yes, more new Share entry points. Windows Insider user @Phantomofearth observed the feature in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4445. The feature appears to not be readily available within the preview either but is rather a hidden function that @Phantomofearth uncovered by using a third-party app called ViveTool. The app digs up secret features within the code of Windows 11 software. The Insider noted on X that the Share button is disabled by default on Build 22635 but can be enabled with the following commands in ViveTool: vivetool /enable /id:45738940 vivetool /enable /id:46493758 Since the Share button feature is tested as a preview — and especially since it isn’t a default feature — there is no word on whether the function will be available as a full version rollout. The Share button isn’t the only feature Microsoft has been testing recently in its Windows Insiders Preview Build program. The company recently rolled out an AI feature called Rewrite for its Notepad app, which allows you to generate alternative text to fit your specific needs, including modifying text to be longer, shorter, or to be written in a certain tone or format. The feature is a part of the software update for Notepad version 11.2410.15.0 coming to Windows Insider users under the Canary and Dev Channels. 13. Concerns grow as ******* strikes new areas of Lebanon Concerns grow as ******* strikes new areas of Lebanon EPA Lebanon’s health ministry said three children and three women were among the those ******* in Aramoun The rescue workers had just left when we arrived at the scene of an ******** air strike on a building in Aramoun, south-west of Lebanon’s capital Beirut. It was supposed to have been cleared. They had found eight bodies – including three children and three women – and taken the many injured to hospitals; some were in a critical condition. Then several men on a balcony in a building opposite started shouting: “A hand, a hand. We can see a hand.” They were pointing at a balcony on the second floor, which was completely destroyed and had crumbled on to the collapsed floor below. A young man climbed on to the mound of rubble. He reached the spot, moved some of the rubble, then held something up that could not be identified from distance. Later, I asked him if he did find a hand. He replied: “No. It wasn’t a hand. It was a piece of bone from a head.” The multi-storey building that was hit is located in a residential area. We were told that most of the people there were internally displaced, mainly from the south of the country or the southern suburbs of Beirut. They are areas where Hezbollah has a strong presence and which have been frequently targeted by ******* during its war with the Iran-backed political and military group. Aramoun is a religiously mixed area and until Wednesday it was deemed safe because it had not been hit before. The dawn strike came without warning. “It was around 4 o’clock in the morning. We were asleep. We woke up because of a very strong thud. We couldn’t see anything in the beginning because of the smoke that was everywhere,” said a mother of two who lived in the building opposite. She had sought refuge in her uncle’s house in Aramoun after ******* started ******** Beirut’s southern suburbs. “******* is striking everywhere. There is nowhere that is safe anymore,” she added. EPA The ******** military has not yet said who or what it targeted in the residential building Another woman in her 80s was being rushed to a car. She had moved to Aramoun a month ago, also from Beirut’s southern suburbs. After the strike, she left with everyone else in the building and spent two or three hours in their car on the street. When we saw her, she was collecting some of her possessions. She told us she was very scared and was moving once more. This time, she said, she was going to her son’s place. He is displaced as well. When asked about any prospects of an end of hostilities soon, she replied: “The more they talk about a ceasefire, the more ******* intensifies its strikes.” Getty Images Some residents had to flee in their pyjamas following the strike The ******** military has not yet said who or what it targeted in Aramoun. But the strike bore similarities to several in other parts of the country: launched without warning on residential buildings or houses hosting displaced people. The ******** military has said many of those strikes have targeted Hezbollah infrastructure. The attacks are causing increasing social unease within host communities, with residents voicing concern over the possibility of ******* targeting displaced people living among them or others visiting, often to deliver financial assistance. “We all love the resistance [Hezbollah], but if someone has a son and isn’t even sure he is in Hezbollah, or someone is coming to give aid to displaced people and they are being targeted, we are paying the price,” said one man who owns house in the area that was struck and lives there with his wife and child. He added: “The displaced came as guests and we welcome them. But if there is someone stranger here, whoever he is – it might be my own child and I’m not aware of him being in Hezbollah – and they target him, and children and women get *******, isn’t that pitiful?” Such comments have become more common following the recent series of ******** strikes in various parts of the country which are outside the known areas of hostilities. But at the same time there are increasing calls in Lebanon for national unity as well as warnings that such strikes from ******* could be purposely designed to create that social unease. 14. Why Steelers’ Mike Tomlin is my favorite to win his first NFL Coach of the Year award Why Steelers’ Mike Tomlin is my favorite to win his first NFL Coach of the Year award Cameron Heyward stared at the four-letter message projected on the screen, wondering what it all meant. As Mike Tomlin — the master of acronyms, and the most powerful force in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ universe — spoke passionately to his players about an upcoming opponent in a darkened meeting room late last month, the light began to go on in Heyward’s head. He’s talking about ME. The subject was Dexter Lawrence, the New York Giants’ two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle. The subtext was Heyward, a 14th-year interior lineman and three-time All-Pro, who was about to set a franchise record for a defender by playing in his 202nd regular season game. The acronym on the screen was “WGFO.” “I was like, ‘What the ***** is he talking about?’” Heyward recalled Monday. “And it was, ‘We Gonna Find Out.’” Specifically, Tomlin was challenging Heyward to prove he could still play at as high a level as Lawrence, who was nine years his junior. And the 18th-year coach was doing it in his own inimitable way, mixing humor with cold, hard truths about the sport he loves. “He finds ways to motivate every guy on this team,” Heyward says of Tomlin. “It’s about having a relationship with every man that walks into that locker room. Every day in practice he’s interacting with guys, and after practice he’s walking around the locker room doing it, too. He has relationships with everyone, and there’s less room for chaos because of that.” Though Tomlin, the NFL’s longest-tenured head coach, is one of the most successful men in his profession, he also tends to be one of the least appreciated. Since taking over as Pittsburgh’s head coach in 2007, he has never had a losing season. Think about that — in a league designed to accentuate parity, the man hasn’t had a single bad year, with nearly two decades of sample size. That’s crazier than a beloved establishment showcasing sandwiches with French fries and coleslaw. Yet some Steelers fans, frustrated by Tomlin’s recent lack of playoff triumphs, continually complain about his perceived shortcomings. Such gripes are typically met with eye-rolls in NFL circles, yet there’s a case to be made that Tomlin chronically gets less praise than he deserves. The 52-year-old has won a Super Bowl, two AFC championships and 188 combined regular season and postseason games, yet he has never been honored as the Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year. Scoop City Newsletter Free, daily NFL updates direct to your inbox. Free, daily NFL updates direct to your inbox. Sign Up That could change come February. Though there have been some stellar coaching jobs this season — by Matt LaFleur, Kevin O’Connell, Dan Campbell, Raheem Morris, Dan Quinn and others — Tomlin’s masterful touch in guiding the Steelers to a 7-2 record has been unparalleled. To put it in terms he’d appreciate: Midway through the 2024 campaign, he’s my COTYSF (Coach of the Year So Far). Mike Tomlin’s 173 wins rank 12th all-time in NFL history, the most of any coach to not win a Coach of the Year title since the award’s inception. (Photo: Patrick Smith/Getty Images) Tomlin has managed a potential quarterback controversy, overseen the installation of a new offense and helped reenergize a defense with five new starters (if you include nickel back Beanie Bishop Jr., an undrafted rookie). The Steelers may boast the NFL’s most effective special teams units, and their only two defeats (consecutive losses to the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys) were by three-point margins. They’ve prevailed in four other one-score games, including last Sunday’s stirring, 28-27 road victory over the 7-3 Washington Commanders. Suddenly Pittsburgh, which has been one-and-done in its last four postseason appearances, appears formidable enough to compete with the AFC’s best teams. GO DEEPER NFL Week 10 takeaways: Who’s more disappointing, Jets or Cowboys? Are Steelers Super Bowl worthy? The Steelers will learn more about themselves Sunday when they host the 7-3 Baltimore Ravens, who trail them by half a game in the AFC North. Still, for the first time since Ben Roethlisberger retired in January 2022, they appear capable of winning big games without relying on their defense and special teams to carry them. The biggest reason for the Steelers’ success? Well, there are two big ones. Tomlin’s got ********. Unlike so many of his coaching contemporaries, he’s not afraid to go with his instincts, ****** his shot and live with the consequences if he misses. He’s a risk-taker, and his players vibe on that. Sunday’s victory over the Commanders was like a sizzle reel for Tomlin’s COTYSF candidacy. The Steelers led 7-0 when, with 5:16 left in the first quarter, they tried a fake punt on fourth-and-15 from their own 16. The play caught the Commanders by surprise but ******* when one defensive back (upback Miles Killebrew) was unable to complete a pass to another (James Pierre, who couldn’t handle the throw). Three plays later, Austin Ekeler’s 1-yard touchdown run tied the game. Tomlin didn’t trip, saying afterward, “That is me. I own that, but I’d do it again.” The Steelers fought back from a 24-14 deficit and won on a late touchdown when Russell Wilson, on third-and-9 from the Washington 32, completed a high-arc deep ball to Mike Williams, who’d been acquired in a trade five days earlier and had never practiced the route. GO DEEPER Scoop City: Grading 15 midseason acquisitions, so far On paper, it was somewhat preposterous. In real life, it was glorious. And it would never have happened without Tomlin’s conviction. Beginning last spring, Tomlin’s ****** in Wilson has been perplexing to many people inside and outside of the organization, in light of the way the former Seattle Seahawks star had seemingly regressed in recent years. Wilson, 35, struggled mightily after being traded to the Denver Broncos after the 2021 season. He seemed to have lost a step — at least a step — and to possess far less field awareness than in previous seasons. Last December, Broncos coach Sean Payton benched Wilson — with his team still technically in playoff contention — to avoid the financial ramifications of a possible injury. Given Payton’s reputation as an offensive guru, it was perceived by many of his peers as an irrevocable indictment of Wilson’s abilities. Tomlin saw it differently. When Wilson, released by the Broncos, became a free agent in March, the Steelers quickly signed him as the successor to Kenny Pickett, a ******* 2022 first-round draft pick. GO DEEPER Steelers predictions at NFL midseason: Mike Tomlin wins award, first playoff game since 2016 Days later, they swung a trade with the Chicago Bears to acquire Justin Fields, the 11th pick in the 2021 draft. From that moment, skepticism swirled. Many NFL coaches and talent evaluators speculated that Wilson wouldn’t win the starting job, even as Tomlin insisted he’d go into training camp No. 1 on the depth chart. When a calf injury essentially derailed Wilson’s preseason — and lingered into October — Fields seized his opening. His speed and mobility helped new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith conceive an ******* that created favorable matchups for Pittsburgh’s running game. By the time Wilson was fully healthy, the Steelers were 4-2 and coming off a 32-13 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Virtually no one thought Tomlin should make a change. Roethlisberger, on his “Footbahlin” podcast, said after that victory, “All in all, I would absolutely not even think about taking (Fields) out of the game right now.” That was the prevailing sentiment inside the Steelers’ organization, too. Tomlin decided otherwise, intent in his belief that Wilson — who won one Super Bowl and came within a yard of winning a second — still possessed the elite qualities that could potentially help the Steelers elevate in the postseason. “I’m not trying to win games,” Tomlin told Fox’s Jay Glazer. “I’m trying to win a world title here. I gotta see what I’ve got in both.” Mike Tomlin went out on a limb to insert Russell Wilson into the starting lineup. The decision has paid dividends so far. (Charles LeClaire / Imagn Images) Because of that, Tomlin told Glazer, he “went Lone Ranger” and made the move. One big difference: The Lone Ranger wore a mask. Tomlin ***** bare his intentions and mindset to all parties concerned. GO DEEPER NFL Power Rankings Week 11: Chiefs back at No. 1, plus quarterback confidence rankings Inside the locker room, there was no grumbling or second-guessing. Tomlin, who has habitually gotten the most out of strong (and sometimes prickly) personalities — former stars Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell and current receiver George Pickens are some obvious examples — sold the move in a manner that some of his mealy-mouthed peers would be wise to emulate. “All three guys — Justin, Russ and Mike — handled it with complete class,” Heyward said. “(Tomlin) said, ‘We’re gonna see what happens, but we will not be forgetting what Justin did, nor will we think Justin’s just gonna be someone who gets lost in the shuffle. It’s a long season and we will see what happens.’” Here’s what has happened so far: The Steelers are 3-0 with Wilson at quarterback. He has thrown six touchdown passes and one interception, and Pittsburgh has averaged 30.7 points per game in those starts. The Lone Ranger is riding high. Then again, the schedule gets tougher now, with two games against the Ravens and clashes with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs among the tests awaiting Tomlin’s team. Can the Steelers meet the challenge — and win a playoff game (or more than one) for the first time in eight seasons? As Tomlin would say, WGFO. 15. NYT Mini Crossword today: puzzle answers for Wednesday, November 13 NYT Mini Crossword today: puzzle answers for Wednesday, November 13 The New York Times has introduced the next title coming to its Games catalog following Wordle’s continued success — and it’s all about math. Digits has players adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing numbers. You can play its beta for free online right now. In Digits, players are presented with a target number that they need to match. Players are given six numbers and have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, or divide them to get as close to the target as they can. Not every number needs to be used, though, so this game should put your math skills to the test as you combine numbers and try to make the right equations to get as close to the target number as possible. Players will get a five-star rating if they match the target number exactly, a three-star rating if they get within 10 of the target, and a one-star rating if they can get within 25 of the target number. Currently, players are also able to access five different puzzles with increasingly larger numbers as well. I solved today’s puzzle and found it to be an enjoyable number-based game that should appeal to inquisitive minds that like puzzle games such as Threes or other The New York Times titles like Wordle and Spelling Bee. In an article unveiling Digits and detailing The New York Time Games team’s process to game development, The Times says the team will use this free beta to fix bugs and assess if it’s worth moving into a more active development phase “where the game is coded and the designs are finalized.” So play Digits while you can, as The New York Times may move on from the project if it doesn’t get the response it is hoping for. 16. My quest to fully remove Microsoft Edge is finally complete My quest to fully remove Microsoft Edge is finally complete I’m on a mission to eradicate Microsoft Edge from my PC. It’s not a slight against Microsoft — I just don’t particularly care for the Edge browser compared to some of the other best browsers out there. But Edge is different because Microsoft has tried — and mostly ******* — to court its massive Windows user base, with some unsavory tactics, including making it nearly impossible to set a different default browser to massive, screen-overtaking popups when searching for the Chrome installer. Most of those issues have been solved, but Edge still shows up all over Windows, from weather and widgets to the Windows search box. But don’t worry — I finally found a way to get rid of Edge for good and replace the functions in Windows with my browser of choice. Get the Edge out of here Digital Trends If you don’t use Edge, I assume you probably just ignore it. That’s because uninstalling Microsoft Edge is kind of a pain in the *****. If you open the Add or remove programs window in Windows, you’ll find Edge among your other apps, but you can’t uninstall it. The option to uninstall it is actually there, but grayed out — almost like Microsoft teasing you for what you can’t do in your operating system. There are some ways to uninstall Edge with the options in Windows — check out the link above — but they involve a few registry edits, a little PowerShell, and some upkeep to make sure Edge doesn’t reinstall itself with Windows updates or updates to your other browser. If you don’t want to do all of it manually, you can download the Edge Removal batch file from AveYo on GitHub, which will go through the process for you. It removes some other elements, like Gaming Services for the Xbox app, but you can edit the file before running it. Here’s the issue with removing Edge this way — it disables a lot of things within Windows. Searching will no longer pull up web results. Weather in Windows won’t work. It will disable widgets completely. Basically, any function that’s built into Windows that requires an active internet connection is routed through Bing search and Edge, and without them, those functions won’t work. Maybe that’s what you want, but there’s a way to have the best of both worlds. In control of search Jacob ****** / Digital Trends Enter MSEdgeRedirect — one of the more popular options, among a surprisingly long list, of apps that redirects normal Edge functions in Windows to your browser and search engine of your choice. The big deal is that it works with the Edge Removal file. There are actually several components of Edge that are ******* deep within Windows, even after you remove the browser. MSEdgeRedirect taps into those dormant components and manipulates them to run with your search engine and browser of choice instead of Edge and Bing. That’s important because, even if you change your default browser in Windows, these additional features will still use Bing and open in Edge. I’m sure I’m far from the only one who’s opened something in Edge through Windows and felt like a fish out of water when half a dozen pop-ups asking me to import my browser settings took over my screen. At a high level, MSEdgeRedirect is simply redirecting these requests. It’s telling Windows, “instead of Edge, use this other browser I have installed.” It hooks into the “microsoft-edge:” handle, meaning the tool should still work even with new Windows and Edge updates. You can see this in action yourself. Open the Run utility with Windows key + R and enter “microsoft-edge:” followed by the URL of your choice (complete with It’ll open in Edge. Install MSEdgeRedirect, and it’ll open in the browser of your choice instead. That’s great, but it doesn’t really get at the main issue with these functions built into Windows — the fact that they use MSN and Bing instead of Google or alternative services. That’s where MSEdgeRedirect gets really good. Outside of just redirecting these functions to open in the browser you want, it can also redirect the services that Windows uses. I guess you can tell what I do on my PC all day. Jacob ****** / Digital Trends You can use the service you want for Bing Discover, Bing Search, Bing Images, MSN News, and MSN Weather. There’s a list of preset options, but most of the redirections also support custom services — just enter the URL of your choice. MSEdgeRedirect not only removes some annoyances with Windows; it actively makes them better by putting you in control of the services you interact with. The two that make a major difference for me are search and weather. I use Weather.com now, which works properly with the weather widget in Windows 11. For search, MSEdgeRedirect not only uses Google to populate my results in Windows search, it also shows my Google search history within Windows so I can quickly get back to whatever I was doing online without opening another browser tab manually. As has been the case in the past, I’m sure updates to Windows or Edge will break these apps in some way in the future. Hopefully they’ll stay useful for a while at least. If nothing else, they’re easy to install, and they give you some control over how Windows works rather than forcing you to use Microsoft’s own services. The worst thing is I’m not surprised or offended anymore.” Holly, now 26, has chronic pain and hypermobility syndrome and is one of a number of disabled women who have spoken out to challenge negative stereotypes and stigma when it comes to dating and relationships. Holly Greader said it was important that happy relationships for those who were disabled were represented. She started dating her now husband James when she was a teenager, and has been with him for nine years, getting married earlier this year. “Often in the media disabled people have ********** lives, we’re just a sad story,” she said. She added she has always felt supported by him, but felt stereotyped by others. “I was told by people when we first moved in together, that if my health declines he’d leave me. “For being a burden or too much to handle.” RAM Photography & Film Holly got married to James in September and says he has always supported her with her health She said there were assumptions people made about her in school, which some asked to her face. “When it comes to wheelchair users, it’s always without a doubt almost the first question, can that person have ****?” She said the boys in her class at school would ask personal and intrusive questions. “I got asked things like, can you only have **** in a wheelchair? Will your joints dislocate? If I wanted to have rough **** with you, would I be able too?” Holly said people have also messaged her on social media about ****, an offer she was often made to feel she should be “lucky” for. Holly would like to see better positive representation in the media, citing that the character Isaac Goodwin in the programme **** Education was the only good example she has been aware of recently. ‘How do you have ****?’ Nicola Thomas, 38, from Caerphilly is registered ******. She said: “One of the more common things people will ask is, how do you have ****? It kind of takes your breath back, it’s such an invasive and personal question.” Nicola has an auto immune ******** – Neuromyelitis Optica – she lost her sight in one eye 15 years ago and the other five years ago. “A lot of people see barriers with blindness and I’m definitely one to break those down.” Nicola’s hobbies include sailing, paddleboarding and travelling, her next trip is to Hong Kong. Nicola Thomas Nicola and her boyfriend Paul, love traveling the world together Nicola had a boyfriend when she lost her sight but the relationship broke down. “I was treated like a burden, people would say you can’t be a carer for her, but I didn’t need a carer.” She now has a boyfriend who is also visually impaired. “Even though we’re both ******, we’ll navigate our way round a city, or go on a date on our own. Nothing holds us back.” Nicola also said she feels stereotyped when people show an interest in her. “People message on social media asking for dates, their attention shifts or acts differently when I tell them I’m ******.” “You’re definitely treated like they’re doing you a favour. It puts you off instantly.” Nicola added: “People do pigeon ***** us. I want to breakdown that stereotype, I have a full and happy life.” “When you’re disabled you’re well acquainted with ******** but it’s more than a monetary value, a healthy relationship is definitely a ********.” Kat Watkins said disabled people have a right to explore their ******* identity and develop relationships just like anybody else. She is the access to politics project officer for Disability Wales. “Why are **** and relationships such a ****** for disabled people? There is much more to us than just being able to eat and having a roof over our heads.” “Living your life and enjoying yourself that’s just part of life, and it doesn’t get highlighted enough for people with disabilities.” Kat said hearing examples of how people message disabled women was “sadly normalised.” She said adaptable **** toys and aids can help give people confidence and would like to see them on more mainstream **** sites and outlets. “You’ve got to be comfortable with yourself and understand your body, so you can tell others how it works. GOG’s preservation label highlights classic games it’s maintaining for modern hardware GOG’s preservation label highlights classic games it’s maintaining for modern hardware GOG is launching an effort to help make older video games playable on modern hardware. The will label the classic titles that the platform has taken steps to adapt in order to make them compatible with contemporary computer systems, controllers and screen resolutions, all while adhering to its DRM-free policy. The move could bring new life to games of decades past, just as GOG did two years ago with a refresh of . So far, 92 games have received the preservation treatment. “Our guarantee is that they work and they will keep working,” the company says in the video announcing the initiative. 20. Nvidia’s RTX 40-series is coming to an end Nvidia’s RTX 40-series is coming to an end Out with the old, in with the new. According to Board Channels, Nvidia has now halted production for nearly all of its best graphics cards as it shifts focus to the RTX 50-series. Only one GPU ******** in production, and some of the cards that are the most in demand are no longer being produced. Nvidia hasn’t officially announced that it’s sunsetting the RTX 40-series, but we’ve been hearing more and more reports that imply that might be the case. The RTX 4090 was among the first cards to go out of production, and the discontinuation appears to have immediately affected the markets. Nvidia’s behemoth flagship was hard to come by at the best of times, and now, as no more new units are being produced, it’s safe to assume that this situation won’t improve. The cheapest RTX 4090 I could find on Amazon costs nearly $2,000, but you can still snag one for . The RTX 4090 was an oddity within the RTX 40-series, selling above its recommended list price (MSRP) for most of its tenure, so it’s not exactly strange to see it selling for $2,000. However, this situation might now slowly begin to affect the rest of the lineup, as Board Channels (shared by VideoCardz) reports that most of the other Ada Lovelace chips are now discontinued, too. Jacob ****** / Digital Trends The AD102, AD103, AD104, and AD106 chips are reportedly no longer being produced. The only outlier is the AD107, which is a budget GPU found in cards like the RTX 4050 or the RTX 4060, as well as its laptop version. It makes sense that this one would remain available, given that it might be a while before Nvidia launches the mainstream laptop GPUs for the RTX 50-series. Get your weekly teardown of the tech behind PC gaming What does this mean if you’re interested in buying a GPU? Right now, not much. Even if Nvidia did discontinue the majority of the RTX 40-series, these cards are still available to buy. But as time goes on, stock levels will dwindle, and buying them new will become pricier. The exact same thing has happened to the RTX 30-series, making those GPUs not worth buying when new. Most sources now claim that Nvidia will launch the RTX 50-series in January 2025, with the RTX 5090 and the RTX 5080 being available that same month. 21. Women’s Champions League big guns enjoy impressive wins Women’s Champions League big guns enjoy impressive wins If Lyon are to add to their record eight Women’s Champions League titles, stunning goals like that scored by 21-year-old forward Melchie Dumornay will help. Dumornay’s chipped shot from the centre circle to beat Roma goalkeeper Camelia Ceasar on Wednesday night was the standout moment of a 3-0 win in a clash of two unbeaten teams in Group A. Haiti international Dumornay, the competition’s young player of the year last season, had opened the scoring six minutes earlier in the 36th to help lift Lyon to three straight wins and no goals conceded as they seek a first Champions League title since 2022. Canada international Vanessa Gilles sealed the win in the 52nd, while Matildas right-back Ellie Carpenter played a full game for the French visitors to the Italian capital. “Melchie is a player who is amazing to work with; she is growing, growing and growing. But the biggest thing for Melchie, apart from her goals, is her contribution to the team. She does so much work for us,” Lyon’s *********** coach Joe Montemurro told uefa.com. “We still need points to qualify mathematically for the quarter-finals. We look to another big game in Lyon next week, when I’m sure Roma will come back and will try to get some points. It will be a very tough game for us and we need to keep going.” Chelsea coach Sonia Bompastor, who led Lyon to that Champions League title three seasons ago, now has a perfect record of nine wins in nine games in her debut season with her new club. Celtic pushed the Blues hard in Glasgow, and the 2021 beaten finalists had to rally for a 2-1 win. Chelsea are three points clear of Real Madrid, who earlier in the day were inspired by playmaker Caroline Weir in a 7-0 rout of FC Twente. Weir had two assists before curling in an elegant free kick to score herself. Defender Maria Mendez netted two headers from corners as Madrid followed up a 4-0 win over Celtic in their previous home game in Group B. *********** teenager Daniela Galic came off the bench in the 79th minute. The Young Matildas midfielder, who played two A-League Women seasons for Melbourne City before heading to Europe last July, was booked five minutes later on a tough night for the Dutch side in the Spanish capital. 22. Bethesda Workers Go On Strike Against Microsoft Bethesda Workers Go On Strike Against Microsoft Last year, quality-assurance workers at Bethesda and ZeniMax studios formed ZeniMax Workers *******, the largest certified video game union in the ******* States. Now that union is putting its collective power to the test in a brief strike against Bethesda and ZeniMax’s parent company, Microsoft. ZeniMax Workers ******* has been attempting to negotiate a deal with Microsoft over remote-work requirements while also limiting the number of outsourced QA workers who can be brought in on Bethesda’s projects. The union didn’t say who Microsoft is outsourcing QA work to, but it accused the company of ignoring requests to negotiate. “They have continually given us their first proposal again and again, and it’s become obvious that our different mobilization tactics have not worked,” QA test lead Rhyanna Eichnersaid told Inverse. This one-day strike was called in an attempt to make Microsoft more receptive to addressing the union’s concerns. “Striking isn’t fun or ideal, but there’s a satisfaction in having a concrete physical action we can do to ****** for better work conditions,” noted senior QA tester Juniper Dowell. “Hopefully, we can convince them to stop dragging their feet and meet us at the table.” According to Dowell, many of the QA testers were hired during the COVID pandemic when remote work was more prevalent. Microsoft’s current requirements call for QA workers to be in the office two days a week, while the union is asking for a more flexible remote policy. After the strike began, Microsoft issued a statement affirming the company’s willingness to “listen and address their concerns at the bargaining table.” Quote from MS rep to me re: today’s ZeniMax strike (over remote work, outsourcing): “We respect our employees’ rights to express their point of view as they have done today. We will continue to listen and address their concerns at the bargaining table.” — Stephen Totilo (@stephentotilo) November 13, 2024 If the one-day strike fails to motivate Microsoft to make any concessions or changes, it could lead to a longer strike in the future. But for now, Bethesda’s upcoming games, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, are not expected to be delayed by the strike. 23. Apple’s latest Logic Pro for Mac and iPad update simplifies things and recreates an iconic reverb effect Apple’s latest Logic Pro for Mac and iPad update simplifies things and recreates an iconic reverb effect Whether you’re a singer or songwriter, in a band, a musician, or a podcaster, there is a good chance that you use Logic Pro on the Mac or iPad to produce, edit, and eventually export. Apple gave Logic Pro a significant upgrade in May alongside new iPads and truly infused it with AI in the form of session players. Now, though, with Logic Pro for Mac 11.1 and Logic Pro for iPad 2.1, Apple’s expanding on some core capabilities and adding a plugin with some historical significance – at least in the music industry. A bevy of new features, led by the Quantec Room Simulator plug-in, are rolling out today as a free update for both platforms. First, a bit of a history lesson on the Quantec Room Simulator – it’s built from the original documentation and algorithms of the physical piece of hardware created by Wolfgang Buchleitner, which enables a distinct and accurate reverb adjustment. It’s been used by countless artists, including Peter Gabriel, who uses it at live shows for building harmonic drones and on records including Passion and Us. (Image credit: Apple) Apple essentially acquired the tech to rebuild the Quantec Room Simulator as a plugin that’s now included with Logic Pro for Mac and iPad. This lets you add natural-sounding effects to anything – be it spoken word, music, or even foley sounds. There are two routes for using it: one that is more vintage and one that is updated modern. Beyond the Quantec Room Simulator plug-in, Logic Pro is getting “Reorder Mixer Channels” that allow you to rearrange various strips individually or in groups. You can also add your own personal sounds on the iPad via Sample Folders, which can pull from connected storage, the Files app, or iCloud Drive. You can now more easily search for plug-ins on the Mac thanks to a new categorization. These are some handy additions that should let you make the most of Logic Pro, either by using the built-in tools or pulling from other sources. The Quantec Room Simulator will also be one to try out, and of course, a Logic Pro update wouldn’t be complete without some new sounds. To fill that need, Apple’s also adding a Modular Melodies Synth Pack at no additional cost. Of course, if you’re new to Logic Pro for Mac or iPad, there is a cost associated with it. On the Mac, it’s a one-time purchase of $199.99 in the ******* States, and on the iPad, it’s either $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year. These updates are now rolling out with Logic Pro for Mac 11.1 and Logic Pro for iPad 2.1. 24. Ohio lawmakers pass bill restricting transgender student access to bathrooms Ohio lawmakers pass bill restricting transgender student access to bathrooms The Ohio Senate on Wednesday approved a ban on transgender students using bathrooms that fit their gender identities and sent the measure to *********** Gov. Mike DeWine. The ***********-backed bill applies to public K-12 schools and institutions of higher education. It requires the schools to designate separate bathrooms, locker rooms and overnight accommodations “for the exclusive use” of either males and females, based on one’s gender assigned at or near birth, in both school buildings and facilities used for a school-sponsored event. The legislation would not apply to school employees, emergencies or people helping young children or those with disabilities, and schools would still be able to provide single-use and family bathroom facilities. State Sen. Jerry Cirino, a Kirtland ***********, said the bill “is about safety and security.” The ACLU of Ohio urged the governor not to sign the measure, which it condemned as a violation of the right of privacy of LGBTQ+ Ohioans that will make them less safe. “We are closely considering next steps,” the ACLU said on social media. “If allowed to go into effect, SB 104 will create unsafe environments for trans and gender non-conforming individuals of all ages,” Jocelyn Rosnick, the group’s policy director, said in a statement. “This bill ignores the material reality that transgender people endure higher rates of ******* ********* and assaults, particularly while using public restrooms, than people who are not transgender.” Transgender and gender-nonbinary teens who were subject to restroom or locker room restrictions had a higher prevalence of ******* ********, according to a 2019 study published in the journal Pediatrics. About 36% of surveyed teens reported ******* ********, the study found. The Center for ********** Virtue commended legislators for passing the bill and called on DeWine to sign it. The governor has said he’s inclined to sign the bill, but will conduct a legal review first. “Today is a huge victory for children and families in Ohio,” CCV Policy Director David Mahan said in a statement. “Amended SB104 is common-sense legislation that will guarantee the only people entering young ladies’ private spaces are female, not men claiming to be female.” At least 11 states have adopted laws barring transgender ****** and women from ******’ and women’s bathrooms at public schools, and in some cases other government facilities. The laws are in effect in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Utah. A judge’s order putting enforcement on hold is in place in Idaho. Ohio House Republicans attached the measure to a proposal regarding Ohio’s college credit program for high school students before passing it in June, much to the chagrin of one of the Democratic state senators who had signed on as a co-sponsor. Sen. Catherine Ingram, of Cincinnati, said she was taking her name off the bill. Senate Democratic Leader Nickie Antonio said she couldn’t believe *********** leaders prioritized the bill on their first day back following the November election. “There should be no exception to liberty and justice for all, yet here we are telling our children that there are people who are less-than,” she said. “This bill is not about bathrooms. 25. Exclusive-Trump’s team drawing up list of Pentagon officers to *****, sources say Exclusive-Trump’s team drawing up list of Pentagon officers to *****, sources say By Phil Stewart and Idrees Ali WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Members of President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team are drawing up a list of military officers to be fired, potentially to include the ****** Chiefs of Staff, two sources said, in what would be an unprecedented shakeup at the Pentagon. The planning for the firings is at an early stage after Trump’s Nov. 5 election victory and could change as Trump’s administration takes shape, said the sources, who are familiar with the Trump transition and requested anonymity to speak candidly about the plans. One of the sources questioned the feasibility of a mass ******* at the Pentagon. It was also unclear if Trump himself would endorse the plan, although in the past he has railed extensively against defense leaders who have criticized him. Trump has also spoken during the campaign of ******* “woke” generals and those responsible for the troubled 2021 pullout from Afghanistan. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to request for comment. The second source said the incoming administration would likely focus on U.S. military officers seen as connected to Mark Milley, Trump’s former chairman of the ****** Chiefs of Staff. Milley was quoted in the book “War” by Bob Woodward, which was published last month, calling Trump “fascist to the core” and Trump’s allies have targeted him for perceived disloyalty to the former president. “Every single person that was elevated and appointed by Milley will be gone,” the second source said. “There’s a very detailed list of everybody that was affiliated with Milley. And they will all be gone.” The ****** Chiefs of Staff include the highest ranking officers in the U.S. military and comprise the heads of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard and Space Force. The disclosure of plans to ***** senior leaders of the U.S. armed forces comes a day after Trump picked as his defense secretary Pete Hegseth, a Fox News commentator and veteran who has signaled a willingness to clean house at the Pentagon. “The next president of the ******* States needs to radically overhaul Pentagon senior leadership to make us ready to defend our nation and defeat our enemies. Lots of people need to be fired,” Hegseth said in his 2024 book “The War on Warriors: Behind the Betrayal of the Men Who Keep Us Free.” It is unclear if Hegseth’s lack of management experience could complicate his Senate confirmation and if a more traditional alternative for the position would carry out such sweeping dismissals. GENERAL BROWN TO BE AMONG THE FIRST FIRED Hegseth has also taken aim at Milley’s successor, Air Force General C.Q. Brown, asking whether he would have gotten the job if he were not ******. “Was it because of his skin ******? Or his skill? We’ll never know, but always doubt – which on its face seems unfair to CQ. But since he has made the race card one of his biggest calling cards, it doesn’t really much matter,” he wrote. The first source familiar with the transition planning said Brown would be among the many officers to leave. “The chiefs of the ****** Chiefs and all the vice chiefs will be fired immediately,” the source said, before noting that this was still only early planning. Some current and former U.S. officials have played down the possibility of such a major shakeup, saying it would be unnecessary and disruptive at a time of global turmoil with wars raging in Ukraine and the Middle East. The first source said that it would be difficult bureaucratically to ***** and replace a large swath of senior U.S. military officials, suggesting the planning could be bluster and posturing by Trump allies. But the second source suggested the Trump camp believed the ****** Chiefs of Staff needed to shrink due to perceived bureaucratic over-reach. Such cuts could be endured in an organization the scale of the U.S. military, the source said. “These people are not irreplaceable. They are very replaceable. And then the other thing too is there is no shortage of people that will step up,” the source said. “In World War Two, we were very rapidly appointing people in their 30s or people competent to be generals. And you know what? We won the war.” (Reporting by Phil Stewart and Idrees Ali; Editing by Don Durfee and Suzanne Goldenberg) Source link #ExclusiveTrumps #team #drawing #list #Pentagon #officers #***** #sources Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
