  1. Shire of Augusta-Margaret River and Witchcliffe residents save 450-year-old tree from developers Shire of Augusta-Margaret River and Witchcliffe residents save 450-year-old tree from developers Months of background work finally paid off last week when the shire of Augusta-Margaret River brokered a deal with the developers of a new housing estate in Witchcliffe to protect a precious tree. The “grandmother tree” within the Leeuwin @ Witchcliffe subdivision was the subject of strident community concerns this year, and residents feared the project team would refuse to alter its internal road network to protect the tree, believed to be 450 years old. However, shire planning and development services manager Matt Cuthbert has confirmed the tree will be saved and the nearest road moved 25m away. “Our unique natural environment is important to everyone who lives in Augusta-Margaret River, and one of the reasons we all love living here,” he said. “Once the developer understood the tree’s significance, they were eager to collaborate with us to explore ways we could protect it.” Proven Project Management did not respond to the Times’ inquiries, and Witchcliffe activist Anu Grace said she had received only non-committal responses from the team. Mr Cuthbert said an arborist recommended that the road be built outside of a 15m protection zone. The developer had voluntarily extended the zone to create a 25m buffer, he said. Temporary fencing would also be in place during construction to ensure traffic was kept away, he said, making sure there was no accidental harm, and to protect surface roots. “We’re committed to balancing our region’s growth with environmental protection so we can retain the natural beauty that defines where we live,” Mr Cuthbert said. “We’re proud to have achieved this positive outcome on behalf of our community.” Site work is expected to start later this month. 2. When is Trading coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket Trading? Release Date Explained When is Trading coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket Trading? Release Date Explained Trading has been part of the Pokémon fabric and DNA since day one. It’s no surprise Trading is a huge topic of discussion in Pocket, and I’ve gathered the latest news and announcements to tell you everything we know about Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Trading mechanic. Once you’ve opened many Pokémon TCG Pocket packs and reeled off Wonder Picks, your collection should look very full; but you’re also bound to have tons of duplicates. Getting extras of the same card is crucial when it comes to Flair in Pokémon TCG Pocket, but it can become an annoyance too. There are so many Pokémon I love when I first pull but become irritated by when I see them for the 10th time—or twice in one pack! You can swap duplicates in real life—one area where the physical edition of the Pokémon TCG differs from the virtual format. We know Trading is in Pokémon TCG Pocket, but questions are being asked about it daily, and I’ll answer them now. Can you Trade in Pokémon TCG Pocket? Let me Trade, please! Credit to The Pokémon Company You cannot Trade in Pokémon TCG Pocket at present as the feature is currently locked behind a notice saying “Coming soon.” I think this part of the equation is quite self-explanatory. You can’t Trade, but The Pokémon Company has addressed the future of the mechanic. When is Trading Coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket? As announced by the Pokémon TCG Pocket X social media page, “January 2025” is the official start ******* for Trading. The post has been translated, and says, “We are aiming to add a feature that allows certain cards to be Traded started in January 2025. We are gradually planning to expand the selection of cards that are able to be Traded.” So, not all cards can be Traded on day one. Using my best judgment, I’d say all cards ranging between one and three diamonds are going to be eligible to Trade. It does mean EX cards and other mega-rare pulls—such as Full Arts—need to wait a bit longer. Unfortunately, like many players, I find myself in the situation where I have completed most of the main Genetic Apex set, and I’m mainly missing the odd EX card, as well as Full Arts. The Pokémon Company likely doesn’t want so many people having every card already, and it encourages players to spend more money and open more packs in a bid to pull the rarest cards. Also, don’t be surprised if Gold Crown cards are never made Tradeable in Pokémon TCG Pocket. We’ll update this as we learn more about the card criteria for Trading. How to Trade in Pokémon TCG Pocket The actual Trading process hasn’t been outlined yet, but we wager a similar system to Pokémon GO is likely to be employed: Direct, one-to-one Trading between connected players, and you need to have a certain amount of currency to do so. Pokémon GO requires Stardust to Trade—with certain cards made untradable altogether—and I expect you probably need a certain amount of Shinedust to Trade in Pokémon Pocket. The amount likely depends on the rarity of the creature, and Trading may be limited to a certain amount per day. This is all conjecture for now, but I can’t imagine the system will drastically deviate from this theory. Are you looking forward to Trading in Pokémon TCG Pocket? Do you think it will be heavily restricted when it finally drops? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to check out the best Electric Deck in Pocket, along with a guide on how to get Mew. 3. Alex Jones Is Having a Total Meltdown Over The Onion Buying Infowars Alex Jones Is Having a Total Meltdown Over The Onion Buying Infowars Alex Jones is having a full meltdown on the cusp of InfoWars’ extinction. The far-right *********** network was auctioned off to the satirical outlet The Onion, ending what was arguably Jones’s most successful endeavor while marking the beginning of his descent into irrelevancy. During a breathless rant on Steve Bannon’s War Room from the InfoWars studio, Jones called the news of The Onion’s acquisition “ridiculous,” referred to U.S. regulators as “imperial troops,” and insisted that the auction rules had been changed at the last minute by the “deep state.” “They are in the building, they told the office manager, and they’re calling me right now, that they have ordered the I.T. providers to cut all the I.T. off to shut InfoWars off,” Jones said. “I could get on a live camera right now and go show you the U.S. trustee and the auctioneer.” “It’s confirmed now that they’re going to cut the power,” Jones said before busting into a grueling laugh. “We are literally sinking, tied up to the new boat, and we’re taking both ships right now, Steve Bannon, **** bless you.” “They’re in the control room.… Imperial troops are through the glass,” Jones said before standing up and walking off camera. “It is a distinct honor to be here in defiance of the tyrants.” Bannon then suggested that Jones and his crew should put a microphone in front of the regulators as they comb through Jones’s assets. At one point during the live broadcast, Jones attempted to project that he had made peace with the major loss, encouraging his viewers to tune in to his new news site. “All you’re doing is shutting down the building and taking away AlexJones.com and the Infowars store,” he said. “We got funds coming in. We got high-powered lawyers. We’re moving forward. The tide has turned.” In the run-up to the auction, Jones had appeared to be under the impression that “good guys” on the right would buy the fringe network, though he did not reveal who they were. Several groups expressed interest in InfoWars assets, including a coalition of ******** and anti-disinformation watchdog groups, according to The Daily ******, as well as some of Jones’s own supporters, like Donald Trump ally Roger Stone. The Onion’s monumental media scoop was made in partnership with the families of Sandy ***** victims, whom Jones owes at least $85 million after he lost a $1.5 billion case for claiming that the massacre, which claimed the lives of 20 first graders and six adults, was a hoax. Ben Collins, The Onion’s CEO, playfully shared the news on social media, asking if anyone needed “millions of dollars worth of supplements.” As the news broke, The Onion—in true form—published an article by Bryce P. Tetraeder, the so-called CEO of Global Tetrahedron (The Onion’s “parent company”), in which the faux executive praised the *********** network as an “invaluable tool for brainwashing and controlling the masses.” “With a shrewd mix of delusional paranoia and dubious anti-aging nutrition hacks, they strive to make life both scarier and longer for everyone, a commendable goal,” the satirical piece read. Ronnie O’Sullivan knocked out of Champion of Champions by Xiao Guodong Ronnie O’Sullivan knocked out of Champion of Champions by Xiao Guodong Ronnie O’Sullivan was knocked out in the opening round of the 2024 Champion of Champions tournament in Bolton by China’s Xiao Guodong. O’Sullivan, 48, a four-time winner of the event, had taken a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven-frames match, only to lose 4-3 after a superb comeback from Xiao. Breaks of 95 and 125 in frames two and three respectively had seven-time world champion O’Sullivan on course to reach Thursday’s quarter-final at the Toughsheet Community Stadium. But Xiao produced breaks of 130, 88 and 85 before winning the final frame 64-35. It is O’Sullivan’s second consecutive defeat. Last week, he was knocked out of the 2024 International Championship by Pang Junxu, also from China, at the last-32 stage. Xiao will face Mark Selby in the quarter-finals after his 4-2 victory over fellow Englishman Shaun Murphy. Selby recorded breaks of 96 and 132, clinching the win by taking the final frame 115-0. Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 spotted at exhibition ahead of official launch Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 spotted at exhibition ahead of official launch The Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 (CM5) has been spotted in the wild. This unannounced compact-optimized version of the Pi 5 is apparently on show at the electronica 2024 show in Munich, which runs until tomorrow afternoon. Twitter / X user Fernando shared a photo of the CM5 plus a glimpse of its IO Board, quickly retweeted by eminent Pi-aficionado Jeff Geerling. A Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 seems to be on public display at @electronicaFair 24 in Germany today… [Hidden Content] 12, 2024 With this high-profile public showing of the CM5, it is probably fair to expect an imminent official launch, though Raspberry Pi has published no word on timing, availability, or other details. Reading through the source thread, we note that the compact new-generation Pi was on show at the Avnet booth, the owners of Pi distributors like Farnell, Newark, and element14. Eben Upton also made a special appearance at the Avnet booth on Wednesday. We reviewed the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4) in 2022, and the availability of the CM5 seems past due. Those familiar with the relationship between the full-sized Raspberry Pis and their CM brethren will not be surprised to see the new CM5 clearly packs the same Broadcom BCM2712 as the established Raspberry Pi 5, but what other key similarities are there, and how does it differ from the CM4? Hopefully, our table using info gleaned from electronica 2024 photos of the CM5 and IO Board will clear a few questions up. Overall, it is good to see the balance of new processing power and features coming to the CM5 and new IO Board. It means any prior projects you may have worked upon, and designed around the CM4, should work with the CM5. If your project benefits from faster performance or greater computing resources, like extra memory and storage, you will also be in for a compact-sized treat. For pricing, availability, and any other details about the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 and new Compute Module 5 IO Board, you’ll have to wait, for now. Global measles cases jumped 20% in 2023 due to ‘inadequate’ vaccine use – National Global measles cases jumped 20% in 2023 due to ‘inadequate’ vaccine use – National Measles cases rose 20% last year, driven by a lack of vaccine coverage in the world’s poorest countries and those riddled with conflict, the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for ******** Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Thursday. Nearly half of all the large and disruptive outbreaks occurred in the ******** region where the number of deaths increased by 37%, they said. “At this moment, every single country in the world has access to measles vaccine, so there’s no reason why any child should be infected with the ******** and no child should **** from measles,” WHO’s Natasha Crowcroft, a senior technical adviser on Measles and Rubella, told reporters. 8. Teenage Engineering is back with another droolworthy (and expensive) groovebox Teenage Engineering is back with another droolworthy (and expensive) groovebox Did you think Teenage Engineering would go another entire year without dropping something both ? Think again. The company just announced the long-rumored OP-XY groovebox. It looks like an OP-1 Field, but plays like the relatively-ancient OP-Z. It also costs $2,300. The OP-XY is described by the company as an “all-in-one powerful synthesizer and composer with deep, direct sequencing capabilities.” That sounds about right. The primary workflow here is sequencing, as opposed to the faux tape recording found with its OP-1 siblings. The groovebox features a shrunken-down keyboard and a strip of 16 LED-equipped buttons to control the sequencer. There’s a multisampler inside the box, in addition to some great-sounding synth engines, drum kits and a bevy of useful effects, including the punch-in effects . As for specs, this little ****** ships with 512GB of RAM, a dual CPU system that’s “capable of ultrafast processing power and efficiency” and 8GB of internal storage. Teenage Engineering boasts about the groovebox’s “brain chord progression.” This lets players program chord sequences by “letting your hands do the talking.” We don’t exactly know what that means, as hands are typically involved when programming any chord sequence. We’ll have to wait for a hands-on experience to get the gist. It does allow for live recording, which is nice. Just like the OP-Z, there’s a built-in gyroscope that allows players to adjust parameters by simply moving the device around. As for connectivity, there’s a USB-C port, a 3.5mm stereo input, MIDI in, MIDI sync and a new multi-output port that can send MIDI, CV, gate or sync data. It even has Bluetooth MIDI. Teenage Engineering It’s also an absolute head-turner in the looks department. This thing is a stunner, dropping the toy-like OP-Z aesthetic for something that eerily resembles the OP-1 Field, albeit with a ****** swap to matte ******. There’s a bright OLED display and many of the same multi-function buttons and knobs found with the original OP-1 and the Field. It looks very cool and I want it. As previously mentioned, there’s a rub. The OP-XY costs $2,300. You read that right. That’s $300 more than the OP-1 Field. Heck. You could buy a brand new standard OP-1 and an OP-Z and still have some money leftover to buy cables and other accessories. Despite the price, I’m cautiously optimistic about this one. I absolutely love the OP-1 Field and I don’t care who knows it. This is really the first ultra-expensive instrument the company has released since the aforementioned OP-1 Field. Last year’s and its both cost $300. The OP-XY is available right now. Source link #Teenage #Engineering #droolworthy #expensive #groovebox Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  9. Alteryx adds tools for cloud, hybrid analytics deployments Alteryx adds tools for cloud, hybrid analytics deployments The latest Alteryx platform update provides new capabilities to support all types of data management and analytics system deployments, whether in the cloud, on premises or a hybrid of both. Included in the vendor’s Fall 2024 Release are the general availability of Standard Mode, a channel in Designer Cloud that provides new data integration and preparation capabilities for working with data in the cloud, and LiveQuery, a feature that improves integrations with cloud data warehouses. In addition, Alteryx’s update, unveiled on Nov. 12, includes new connectors to data storage platforms, support for analytics applications, whether on premises or in the cloud and improvements to APIs designed to improve efficiency. Not included are the general availability of any significant new AI capabilities, which Alteryx tends to unveil separately from its general platform updates. For example, the vendor introduced its version of a generative-AI-powered assistant in May. However, one AI-related feature included in the Fall 2024 release now in public preview is Magic Reports, which uses AI to automatically generate insights. Without any generally available AI features with the potential to change the way Alteryx customers interact with their analytics systems, the vendor’s Fall 2024 Release is made up of additive but not groundbreaking capabilities, according to Doug Henschen, an analyst at Constellation Research. “The update is delivering mostly incremental improvements such as new connectors, app and user management upgrades and API enhancements,” he said. While perhaps incremental, the update is providing customers with what they want, according to Jay Henderson, Alteryx’s senior vice president product management. For example, adding new connectors and improved APIs was driven by customer feedback. “We’re continuing to prioritize functionality that makes the analytics user’s life easier, and their work more efficient,” Henderson said. “By combining customer-driven product features with cloud advancements, Alteryx is [meeting the] needs of our customers.” Based in Irvine, Calif., Alteryx is a longtime data management vendor whose platform is designed to automate aspects of the data preparation process. In December 2023, following a slow evolution to the cloud that led to an executive overhaul in 2022, Alteryx agreed to be acquired by a group of private equity firms for $.4 billion. Platform update Standard Mode and LiveQuery are perhaps the most significant features in the latest Alteryx platform update, according to Henschen. Designer Cloud is Alteryx’s cloud-based environment for data preparation, blending and analytics without writing code. Standard Mode is a new channel within Designer Cloud that contains added Designer Prep and Blend tools that broaden their potential applications beyond what was available and make it more efficient to work with data in the cloud. LiveQuery, meanwhile, aims to improve Alteryx’s interoperability with cloud data warehouses such as Databricks and Snowflake by enabling users to work with data within cloud-based storage tools more directly. The intended results include reduced data egress costs, improved processing times and a lower risk of accidental data exposure. “Taken together, the general availability of the new Standard Mode inside Designer Cloud and the LiveQuery capability for cloud data warehouses will be significant for any company that has its center of data gravity in a public cloud or multiple clouds,” Henschen said. Like Henschen, Kevin Petrie, an analyst at BARC U.S., characterized Alteryx’s Fall 2024 Release as an incremental update. However, he noted that including the public preview of Magic Reports is noteworthy because data and AI teams now view AI-powered tools and enhancements as required features. Magic Reports combines advanced editing capabilities with automated analysis and AI to automatically surface insights and simplify reporting. Petrie noted that BARC research shows that enterprises are optimistic about generative AI’s potential with nearly half of them reporting that generative AI will dramatically improve their use of analytics. Magic Reports feeds into the concept of AI simplifying and improving the analytics process. “Alteryx is helping [data] stakeholders by providing them with AI prompts and auto-summarization of Magic Reports,” Petrie said. In addition, Petrie pointed out the value of integrating more smoothly with cloud data warehouses including Databricks and Snowflake with LiveQuery. “Alteryx is wise to integrate more deeply with Snowflake and Databricks,” he said. “The more they can help users transform and view data within those platforms, the better they can safeguard governance controls and reduce costs.” Beyond Standard Mode, LiveQuery and Magic Reports, the latest Alteryx update includes the following: New connectors, including support for Google Cloud Storage and SingleStore, to enable customers to access their data more easily. Support for analytics applications in Alteryx Cloud Extension for Desktop, which allows AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure users to deploy and manage custom applications both on premises and in the cloud. New security controls for administrators. API improvements that let administrators schedule analytics workloads and retrieve jobs in a move designed to improve efficiency. Collectively, almost three years after Alteryx overhauled its executive suite, the new features continue Alteryx’s evolution away from serving only on-premises users to meeting the needs of customers with different types of deployments, according to Petrie. “Alteryx’s recent turnover does show they have struggled lately,” he said. “This [update] helps by making their platform more automated and intuitive, which builds on its strengths.” However, Petrie noted that customers still express concern over the price of using Alteryx’s data management and analytics tools — Designer Cloud starts at $4,950 per user, per year — and the level of its support for Python, a popular programming language. “I’d be interested to see them provide more visibility into processing cost with, for example, FinOps features and enhancements to support Python-oriented users,” Petrie said. Henschen, meanwhile, noted that Alteryx’s presentation of its latest data management and analytics capabilities — highlighting its support for different deployment types — is notable. Alteryx was founded in 1997, before the advent of the cloud. When data management and analytics shifted from exclusively on premises to cloud-based deployments, Alteryx was slow to adapt its data preparation platform for the cloud. Meanwhile, as it was evolving, other vendors such as Tableau and Qlik began offering data preparation tools in addition to their core analytics capabilities. As a result, Alteryx lost some of its growth momentum, evidenced by modest revenue growth preceding its *****. Now, however, as the cost of cloud-based deployments continues to grow, many organizations are reconsidering their data management and analytics strategies. Alteryx’s messaging suggests it’s trying to appeal to those enterprises. “Alteryx had been struggling to become more cloud-centric and to deliver more value to justify new and existing licenses,” Henschen said. “Like many vendors with on-premises roots, Alteryx is … now reminding customers that it supports hybrid deployments, seeking to ride the coattails of the cloud-cost backlash we’ve seen over the last year.” Plans With its Fall 2024 Release now available, Alteryx’s product development plans include adding more AI-powered data management and analytics features and continuing to add cloud and hybrid capabilities, according to Henderson. “We’re committed to making analytics easier to adopt and use, enhancing AI-assisted functionality to improve productivity and providing cloud-based features that are both powerful and secure,” he said. In addition, Alteryx’s roadmap includes improving the user experience to enable faster and more efficient insight generation and adding new governance and security features that meet the needs of Alteryx’s largest and most complex customers, Henderson continued. Henschen, meanwhile, stressed that Alteryx needs to continue working to discover messaging that will attract new customers and help the vendor regain the growth momentum it lost during its slow transition to the cloud, which didn’t begin until 2021. If it doesn’t, the vendor could be a target for a merger or acquisition. “The company needs to find a clear new direction to regain the sales growth momentum it once enjoyed,” Henschen said. “However, the competition is fierce, and budgets are tight, so we’re likely to see consolidation in the market overall.” Eric Avidon is a senior news writer for TechTarget Editorial and a journalist with more than 25 years of experience. 10. Scathing Justice Dept report says Georgia jail left inmates vulnerable to dangerous conditions Scathing Justice Dept report says Georgia jail left inmates vulnerable to dangerous conditions The jail in Georgia’s largest county, Fulton County, leaves its inmates vulnerable to “substantial risk of serious harm from *********” and violates their constitutional and statutory rights, according to a new Justice Department report released Thursday. After a more than year-long civil rights probe into the Fulton County Jail – which has long been plagued by overcrowding, understaffing and ********* — federal investigators concluded detainees are subjected to “dangerous and unsanitary” conditions, like pest infestations and malnourishment. These conditions especially endanger those with mental health conditions, the report found. “None of these problems are new,” the report said. “And despite widespread awareness of these issues, the unconstitutional and ******** conditions have persisted.” The Justice Department launched its civil investigation into Fulton County’s jail in July 2023, after at least four ****** inmates ***** in the mental health unit in a matter of weeks, including two who were ******* by their cellmates. “Within weeks of opening our investigation, six more ****** men had ***** in the Jail,” the Justice Department revealed. The family of one inmate, Lashawn Johnson, said he ***** in in the jail in 2022, after he was “eaten alive” by insects and bedbugs. About 91% of the jail’s total population is ******, according to the report, compared to 45% of the overall Fulton County population. Justice Department investigators conducted multiple site visits, expert consultations and interviews with inmates and staff. Crumbling infrastructure, failing security, abusive staff and insufficient medical and mental health treatment contributed to the overall unconstitutional conditions described in the report. According to the county sheriff, 62% of the jail’s inmates suffer from mental health or substance use disorders and the staff ******* to provide proper treatment or take steps to mitigate risks of ********. “We found that 75% of those who ***** in the Jail since January 2021 had a current mental health diagnosis or reported a history of mental illness,” the report said. Justice Department investigators noted in their findings that Fulton County and the sheriff sought to remedy some of the issues, including by surging millions in emergency funding and sending some inmates to detention facilities in other districts. Still, the problems persisted. In 2024, three men in Fulton County’s main jail have *****, including one person who was stabbed 20 times in April. From 2022 to the present, according to the report, “six incarcerated people have ***** in violent attacks.” All six victims were ****** men, the Justice Department said. Non-lethal violent assaults are also rampant inside the jail. In 2023, the Sheriff’s Office said there were 1,054 assaults and more than 300 stabbings in the jail. The investigation also uncovered a pattern or practice of ******* ******, according to the report. Announcing the report’s findings, Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Department said officials in Fulton County have taken “preliminary steps” to address the issues outlined in the report, but such measures are “not enough.” The Justice Department’s report outlines various remedial measures the jail must carry out to improve the conditions, like increased accountability measures for staff, overhauling how the jail secures its facilities from ********* and contraband, and ensuring proper ******** prevention measures. “At the end of the day, people do not abandon their civil and constitutional rights at the jailhouse door,” Clarke said. “We can fix these problems,” she added later. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, which runs the jail, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Justice Department officials on Thursday noted the sheriff had cooperated with the probe. 11. Geopolitics overshadow COP29 talks on climate cash Geopolitics overshadow COP29 talks on climate cash Countries at the COP29 summit tried to make progress on how to raise more in climate finance for the world’s most vulnerable, as political tensions overshadowed the talks and Argentina pulled its delegation from Baku. The success of this year’s UN climate summit hinges on whether countries can agree on a new finance target for richer countries, development lenders and the private sector to deliver each year. Developing countries need at least $US1trillion ($A1.5 trillion) annually by the end of the decade to cope with climate change, economists told the UN talks. Many countries have said that money is essential to their setting ambitious climate goals ahead of next year’s COP30 in Brazil. But reaching a deal could be tough at this year’s summit, where the mood has been soured by public disagreements and pessimism about shifts in global politics. Donald Trump’s presidential election win has cast the ******* States’ future role in climate talks into doubt, and tension between developed and developing nations has bubbled to the surface on the main stages and in negotiating rooms. “Parties must remember that the clock is ticking,” COP29 Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev told a news conference on Thursday The previous annual finance goal of $US100 billion ($A155 billion) expires this year. But wealthy countries only met the pledge in full starting in 2022. Early Thursday, a report from the Independent High-Level Expert Group on Climate Finance said the target annual figure would need to rise to at least $US1.3 trillion ($A2 trillion) a year by 2035 if countries fail to act now. Behind the scenes, negotiators are working on draft texts, but early stage documents published by the UN climate body show views around the table still diverge widely. Many Western governments arrived in Baku reluctant to pledge big sums. The likely withdrawal of the ******* States from any future funding deal will raise pressure on delegates to find other ways to secure the needed funds. Among them are the world’s multilateral development banks such as the World Bank, funded by the richer countries and in the process of being reformed so they can lend more. Ten of the largest have said they would plan to increase their climate finance by roughly 60 per cent to $US120 billion ($A186 billion) a year by 2030, with at least an extra $US65 billion ($A101 billion) from the private sector. On Thursday Zakir Nuriyev, head of the Association of Banks of Azerbaijan, said the country’s 22 banks would commit nearly $US1.2 billion ($A1.9 billion) to finance projects that help Azerbaijan transition to a low-carbon economy. So far the conference – which many global leaders decided to skip altogether – has been marked more by division than unity. Argentina’s abrupt departure on Thursday followed an order from Buenos Aires. The country’s presidential spokesperson said the move would allow Gerardo Werthein, the new foreign affairs minister, to “revaluate the situation, reflect on the position”. The minister is “withdrawing the delegation in virtue of a whole reform the minister is going to do. There’s not much else to say,” the spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, told a news conference in Buenos Aires. Argentina’s President Javier Milei, who previously has called global warming a hoax, was due this week to meet Trump, also a climate change denier. When asked whether Argentina would withdraw from the Paris Agreement, Ana Lamas, undersecretary for environment for Argentina, who led the country’s delegation at COP29, told Reuters: “We are only withdrawing from COP29.” Observers criticised the withdrawal by Argentina’s right-wing government, and said it could hurt the country’s hopes of raising future climate cash. A day earlier, French climate minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher cancelled her trip to COP29 after Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev accused France of “*******” in its overseas territories in the Caribbean. France and Azerbaijan have long had tense relations because of Paris’ support of Azerbaijan’s rival Armenia. This year, Paris accused Baku of meddling and abetting violent unrest in New Caledonia. Call Of Duty: Warzone Season 1 Stealthily Removes One Of The Most Hated Weapons Call Of Duty: Warzone Season 1 Stealthily Removes One Of The Most Hated Weapons Call of Duty’s Season 1 update is now live in Warzone, bringing ****** Ops 6’s full integration, including omnimovement, the game’s full ******* pool, a classic Prestige system, and additional features. The update also quietly removes one of Call of Duty’s most annoying weapons. The riot shield is a loadout ******* that’s received a lot of hate over the years, as the bullet-deflecting shield is a frustrating ******* to counter in both multiplayer and Warzone. However, players have quickly noticed that the riot shield is gone in Warzone. As of now, the Riot Shield is gone from Call of Duty: Warzone. — CharlieIntel (@charlieINTEL) November 14, 2024 ****** Ops 6’s ******* pool doesn’t include a riot shield, but all of the weapons from Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 were part of Call of Duty’s Carry Forward plan for the game’s integration into Warzone. When customizing a loadout, players can cycle through all of the guns and melee weapons for all three games, but the Modern Warfare 2 riot shield seems to be the only item missing. The Season 1 patch notes don’t address the removal of the riot shield, so it’s uncertain if this was an intentional decision, or if the riot shield was accidentally left out with ****** Ops 6’s integration. The riot shield has been a part of Warzone since launch, so while there are probably plenty of players rejoicing the shield’s disappearance, there will likely be some fans missing out on their riot-shield strategies. Season 1 of Warzone also adds the brand-new Area 99 Resurgence map, and for the first time ever, the game now has a unique Mastery camo grind. 13. GOG launches “Preservation Program” for porting and maintaining “Good Old Games” to modern PCs with 92 classic games GOG launches “Preservation Program” for porting and maintaining “Good Old Games” to modern PCs with 92 classic games DRM-free game storefront GOG, per the original announcement blog post, recently announced a new “Preservation Program” for retro PC games that will be maintained for and playable on modern platforms. Any game in this program is considered a “Good Old Game” preserved by GOG, and GOG is largely dedicating its own resources to maintaining many of these long-abandoned titles. The goal is to ensure that “this version is the best and most complete available anywhere, including compatibility, manuals, and other bonus content, but also DLCs and even features not present in other editions” and that you can “expect it to work on current and future popular PC configurations.” GOG will even provide technical support for these games, should it still be needed, and add modern gamepad support, where applicable. At the time of writing, this program includes 92 games, and there are plans to add more in the coming months. The catalog will be maintained for compatibility with newer hardware and operating systems and expanded over time with more games. GOG Preservation Program – Make Games Live Forever – YouTube Watch On For now, quite a few classic series are present here—from PC staples like Diablo and Warcraft to console ports like Resident Evil 1 through 3. There are even full articles, including changelogs detailing how the original PC version of the game came to be and what GOG did to fix it. The Resident Evil trilogy post helps establish expectations for old console port PC games, and they’re looking pretty good. All the Resident Evil games got an improved DirectX renderer, added support for V-Sync and other critical video settings (i.e., gamma correction), and even enabled anti-aliasing for enhanced visual clarity. This is just the highlight of dozens of crucial bug fixes and improvements applied to each game, but it helps establish some expectations for games in the program and to be added in the future. There’s nothing to complain about here. This is a solid game preservation win, and the ever-consumer-friendly GOG is still providing all of this DRM-free, which may benefit pirates but certainly benefits paying customers who don’t appreciate invasive DRM software. Goodwill goes a long way, and good art lasts forever—GOG, at least, is doing its part by making sure PC classics last forever, too. That said, the announcement video noticeably uses AI or text-to-speech voiceover. Considering the fancy graphics and all the people clearly employed by GOG, we can’t help but find that decision tacky and a little strange—surely a single minute of voiceover from an existing employee wouldn’t have added significant time to this video’s release. Diamond-cooled GPUs are coming soon — startup claims 20C temp reduction, 25% more overclocking headroom as it seeks US govt funding for diamond-encrusted chip cooling solutions Diamond-cooled GPUs are coming soon — startup claims 20C temp reduction, 25% more overclocking headroom as it seeks US govt funding for diamond-encrusted chip cooling solutions Akash Systems has signed a non-binding preliminary memorandum of terms with the U.S. Department of Commerce for $18.2 million in direct funding and $50 million in federal and state tax credits through the CHIPS Act. Although this isn’t yet a binding contract that will give the company the promised funds, it’s an important first step in the negotiation process for the Oakland-based startup, which shows that both the company and the U.S. government are gradually moving towards a formal agreement. According to Akash Systems (h/t Axios), it will use the funds to ramp up its operations for producing diamond-cooled semiconductors for AI, data centers, space applications, and defense markets. Diamond-cooling technology goes deeper than just thermal paste with nano-diamond technology. For example, some use synthetic diamonds as the chip substrate, utilizing the material’s thermal conductivity to more efficiently move heat away from the processor. So, let’s look closer at Akash’s solution. Akash Systems – How Our Technology Works – YouTube Watch On Akash does not detail exactly how its diamond cooling technology works, but it says that it has fused synthetic diamond with conductive materials like Gallium Nitride to use it as a semiconductor. So, for starters, it could be that the company buys a GPU chip from a supplier and then mounts it on its own GaN-on-diamond PCB. Thus, in the long run, the company could produce its own synthetic diamond wafers for use in chip fabrication by manufacturers like Nvidia and Qualcomm. Image 1 of 3 (Image credit: Akash Systems) (Image credit: Akash Systems) (Image credit: Akash Systems) Akash claims its technology can reduce a GPU’s hot spot temperature by 10 to 20 degrees Celsius, saving data centers “millions of dollars in cooling costs” while preventing thermal throttling. In the GPU-on-diamond specific slide, you can also see claims of up to a 60% temperature reduction using Akash tech, for a 40% reduction in energy consumption. For now, we have to take the numbers at face value, but its claims are quite eyebrow-raising. However, the firm’s tech must have passed some scrutiny from CHIPS Act officials. Akash Systems is also working on GaN-on-Diamond tech for radios and power amplifiers for deployment in satellites that will increase reliability and speed while reducing size. Akash Systems – Artificial Intelligence – YouTube Watch On Most CHIPS Act funding recipients are tech giants—like Intel, Samsung, and TSMC—and established semiconductor companies. Unfortunately, smaller companies and tech startups aren’t often on the list, probably because of the extensive requirements even before a company could begin an application for funding. Axios says that Akash Systems has already secured $18 million from venture capitalists, but its CEO, Felix Ejeckam, says that the company applied for a CHIPS Act grant because the venture capital industry hasn’t always been supportive of semiconductor startups. “The CHIPS Act got started because [private investors] decided hardware wasn’t worthy enough to back, and the pandemic ***** bare the problems with that,” Ejeckam told Axios. “Plus, the U.S. is trying to compete with countries like China that do lots of direct grants to build out their semiconductor and infrastructure sectors.” Get Tom’s Hardware’s best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox. The CHIPS and Science Act is indeed a massive investment push by Washington, D.C. to bolster the ********* semiconductor industry, with the country spending more money on chip fabs and related infrastructure in 2024 than the past 28 years combined. However, many chipmakers are getting the jitters with the upcoming change in U.S. administration, with the TSMC and GlobalFoundries racing to finalize applications and facilitate payouts. Even Akash Systems wants to fast track its progress as it hopes to break ground on its expansion activities before the year ends. Rudy Giuliani lawyers seek to quit defamation claim case Rudy Giuliani lawyers seek to quit defamation claim case Rudy Giuliani (C) arrives at the New York court following a judge’s order compelling his appearance in the defamation case filed by Georgia election workers in New York, ******* States on November 07, 2024. Lokman Vural Elibol | Anadolu | Getty Images Lawyers representing Rudy Giuliani in a lawsuit related to a massive defamation judgment against him are seeking to quit the case in New York federal court, citing significant disagreements with the former Trump campaign attorney over how to handle the matter. The move came a week after the case’s judge threatened to hold him in contempt of court if he ******* to surrender personal property to satisfy some of the $146 million judgment in favor of two Georgia election workers he defamed after the 2020 election while representing current President-elect Donald Trump. Giuliani’s lawyer Kenneth Caruso in filing Wednesday night wrote that he and co-counsel David Labkowski had three grounds for seeking to withdraw from the case in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. Those grounds included “the client insists upon taking action with which the lawyer has a fundamental disagreement,” and “the client insists upon presenting a claim or defense that is not warranted under existing law.” Read more CNBC politics coverage This third ground cited in the filing was “the client fails to cooperate in the representation or otherwise renders the representation unreasonably difficult for the lawyer to carry out employment effectively.” Four paragraphs of the motion are blacked out in the publicly available copy of the document. Caruso earlier had asked Judge Lewis Liman to keep the entire motion sealed, citing the need to avoid disclosing confidential information or material that is “likely to be embarrassing or detrimental to the client if disclosed.” Liman rejected a full sealing but allowed Caruso to file a public copy that redacted paragraphs that contained confidential information related to his legal work for Giuliani, a former New York City mayor and top federal prosecutor. Giuliani’s spokesman Ted Goodman, in a statement to CNBC, said, “Mayor Giuliani has not been informed by Mr. Caruso of this action.” “Surely Mr. Caruso would talk to the mayor, or at the very least inform him of such a decision,” Goodman said. Giuliani represented Trump in the heels of the 2020 election, when the then-president was seeking to reverse his loss to President Joe Biden. Giuliani during that time falsely claimed that Ruby Freeman and Wandrea Moss committed ballot ****** at a Georgia vote-counting site. Avowed Delay Wasn’t Due To Game Quality, Phil Spencer Says Avowed Delay Wasn’t Due To Game Quality, Phil Spencer Says · · November 14, 2024 When Obsidian announced Avowed’s delay out of November 2024 to February 2025, the reason given was that it gave the game time to breath on its own against what would’ve been fierce competition. While some fans didn’t believe that to be the case, Xbox head Phil Spencer once again claimed that the decision wasn’t because of the game’s quality. In an interview with Stephen Totilo of Game File (subscription needed), Spencer said that the company had so many games releasing that it just made sense to move Avowed. 19. RISC-V motherboard for Framework 13 laptops and mini-PCs starts at $199 – quad-core RISC-V CPU and 8GB of RAM included RISC-V motherboard for Framework 13 laptops and mini-PCs starts at $199 – quad-core RISC-V CPU and 8GB of RAM included RISC-V computer firm DeepComputing announced that it offers early access to its new motherboard for the Framework Laptop 13. The DC-ROMA RISC-V Mainboard features the JH7110 CPU made by chip designer StarFive. The processor sports four SiFive U74 cores that clock up to 1.5 GHz and an integrated GPU from Imagination. 8GB of memory and a 64GB SD card are also on the board, and through different tiers, DeepComputing optionally offers USB type A and HDMI ports and a WiFi 6 card. Users can choose the Ubuntu or Fedora Linux distros (or even both) for their operating system, as Linux is the most RISC-V-friendly OS today. It’s not DeepComputing’s first time designing laptop hardware with RISC-V in mind. The company was the first to bring a RISC-V-powered laptop to market. Even considering the DC-ROMA Mainboard is targeted at low-power laptops, it’s not expected to deliver outstanding performance. RISC-V is still relatively new, and not all software is optimized for the architecture yet, which is a significant obstacle to good performance. However, the availability of RISC-V systems from companies like DeepComputing could help improve software compatibility and optimization. DeepComputing says the early access program is available only to “enterprise and business customers.” Still, for those who fit the bill, the DC-ROMA motherboard can be bought for as little as $199 via the Basic tier. Alongside the board, the $199 tier comes with two USB type-C expansion cards and a case made by Framework and Cooler Master, meaning the cheapest tier is technically enough to build a primary mini-PC. For $100 extra, the Standard tier adds in USB type-A and HDMI ports plus the WiFi card and antennae, which seems a little expensive for what you’re getting. The $799 Pro and $999 Enterprise tiers may be a better deal, including the Basic and Standard tiers and the Framework 13 Laptop, maybe a better deal. DeepComputing offers “value-added services” for $99 to $169, depending on the tier. Those who opt into this add-on will get mass-produced DC-ROMA boards for half off, 15% off any DeepComputing product in the company’s catalog, and an opportunity to provide feedback to DeepComputing about the board. Amazon launches fixed pricing to treat hair loss, erectile dysfunction Amazon launches fixed pricing to treat hair loss, erectile dysfunction A worker delivers Amazon packages in San Francisco on Oct. 24, 2024. David Paul Morris | Bloomberg | Getty Images Amazon on Thursday announced Prime members can access new fixed pricing for treatment of conditions like erectile dysfunction and men’s hair loss, its latest effort to compete with other direct-to-consumer marketplaces such as Hims & Hers Health and Ro. Shares of Hims & Hers fell as much as 17% on Thursday, on pace for its worst day. Amazon said in a blog post that Prime members can see the cost of a telehealth visit and their desired treatment before they decide to proceed with care for five common issues. Patients can access treatment for anti-aging skin care starting at $10 a month; motion sickness for $2 per use; erectile dysfunction at $19 a month; eyelash growth at $43 a month, and men’s hair loss for $16 a month by using Amazon’s savings benefit Prime Rx at checkout. Amazon acquired primary care provider One Medical for roughly $3.9 billion in July 2022, and Thursday’s announcement builds on its existing pay-per-visit telehealth offering. Video visits through the service cost $49, and messaging visits cost $29 where available. Users can get treatment for more than 30 common conditions, including sinus infection and pink eye. Medications filled through Amazon Pharmacy are eligible for discounted pricing and will be delivered to patients’ doors in standard Amazon packaging. Prime members will pay for the consultation and medication, but there are no additional fees, the blog post said. Amazon has been trying to break into the lucrative health-care sector for years. 21. Phil Spencer Reveals Real Reason Behind an Xbox Game Pass Release Many Call the Elder Scrolls-******* Phil Spencer Reveals Real Reason Behind an Xbox Game Pass Release Many Call the Elder Scrolls-******* Action RPG enthusiasts were caught off guard when Xbox announced the delay of Obsidian Entertainment’s highly anticipated first-person fantasy RPG, Avowed, to February 2025. The announcement sparked widespread speculation about the game’s development status, with many wondering if quality concerns were behind the decision. The extra development time won’t go to waste. | Image Credit: Obsidian Entertainment Now, Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer has stepped forward to set the record straight in the latest candid interview. His revelations about the real reason behind Avowed’s delay paint a fascinating picture of Xbox’s strategic approach to Game Pass releases, and it’s not what most people expected. The Strategic Timing of Avowed‘s Release In a revealing conversation with GameFile (via VGC), Spencer addressed the elephant in the room head-on. Rather than quality concerns or hiccups in the development process, the decision to push Avowed to early 2025 appears to have been part of a carefully orchestrated release strategy: We can afford it when we have the Diablo expansion, then ****** Ops, then Indy [and the Great Circle]. This calculated move makes perfect sense when you consider the packed holiday lineup. With heavy hitters like Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6 already dominating the scene and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle set to make waves next month, finding the right window for a new IP becomes crucial. Spencer was particularly emphatic about one point: We didn’t move it because Obsidian needed the time. They’ll use the time The statement suggests that Obsidian‘s first major release since joining Xbox Game Studios in 2018 is already in fighting shape. The studio, known for hits like Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, and The Outer Worlds, seems to have crafted something special that Xbox wants to give its proper due. A New Era for Xbox Game Pass One of Microsoft’s most impressive gaming lineups in recent memory. | Image Credit: Xbox The decision to delay Avowed reflects a broader strategy at Xbox, one that involves careful coordination between various teams: [Xbox Game Studios head] Matt ****** and I, we plan it out, we talk with the Game Pass team… We said, ‘Okay, let’s make sure we pace this out a little better’. This level of strategic planning shows that, contrary to popular belief, there’s quite a bit of thought that goes into Xbox Game Pass releases. Rather than simply throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks, Xbox seems to be taking a more curated approach to its content rollout. For Avowed, a game that many are already comparing to Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls series in terms of scope and ambition, this breathing room could be exactly what it needs to make its mark. After all, when you’re launching what some fans are boldly calling an “Elder Scrolls-*******,” timing is everything. While some fans might be naturally disappointed by the delay, the silver lining is that Obsidian will have additional time to polish what could be their most ambitious project to date. And if the studio’s track record is anything to go by, that extra time could mean the difference between a good game and a great one. What do you think about Xbox’s decision to delay Avowed? 22. Amber Discovered For the First Time in Antarctica: What You Need to Know Amber Discovered For the First Time in Antarctica: What You Need to Know The discovery of amber in Antarctica has been reported for the first time, as detailed in a recent study published in Antarctic Science. Dr. Johann Klages from the University of Bremen, alongside a team of researchers, uncovered this specimen in sediment cores from the Pine Island trough in West Antarctica. This ancient amber, originating from approximately 83 to 92 million years ago during the mid-Cretaceous *******, offers valuable insights into prehistoric environmental conditions near the South Pole. Unveiling the First Antarctic Amber The study was published in Antarctic Science journal and reveals that the amber, known as Pine Island amber, was retrieved using the MARUM-MeBo70 drill rig during a 2017 expedition on the RV Polarstern vessel. This mid-Cretaceous resin is considered a significant breakthrough as it suggests that a swampy temperate rainforest, dominated by coniferous trees, thrived in the region during a much warmer ******* in Earth’s history. According to Dr. Henny Gerschel from the Saxon State Office for the Environment, Agriculture and Geology, the amber likely contains tiny fragments of tree bark, preserved through micro-inclusions. Its solid, translucent quality indicates that it was ******* close to the surface, protecting it from thermal degradation. Insights into Prehistoric Forest Ecosystems The presence of pathological resin flow within the amber offers clues into the defence mechanisms used by ancient trees against environmental stressors like parasites or wildfires. “This discovery hints at a much richer forest ecosystem near the South Pole during the mid-Cretaceous,” Dr. Klages explained, noting the resin’s defensive chemical and physical properties that protected it from insect attacks and infections. Reconstructing Ancient Antarctic Environments The amber’s discovery marks a key step in reconstructing ancient polar climates, supporting the idea that temperate forests once spanned across all continents. Researchers aim to explore further by analysing whether signs of past life are preserved in the amber. This study, beyond unearthing Antarctic amber, opens new opportunities to deepen understanding of Earth’s climatic past and the adaptability of prehistoric ecosystems. Amazon launches under-$20 online storefront to compete with Temu | Amazon Amazon launches under-$20 online storefront to compete with Temu | Amazon Amazon has launched a low-cost online storefront featuring electronics, apparel and other products priced at under $20, an effort to compete with discount retailers that have increasingly encroached on the e-commerce giant’s turf. In a blogpost on Wednesday, the company said the new Amazon Haul storefront would mostly feature products that cost less than $10 and offer free delivery on orders over $25. Amazon plans to ship the products to US customers from a warehouse it operates in China, according to documentation the company provided to sellers. Amazon said Haul orders could arrive within one to two weeks. Many of the available products on the storefront on Wednesday resembled the types of items typically found on Shein and Temu, the China-founded e-commerce platforms that have grown in popularity in recent years. Shein’s core customers are young women enticed by the low-cost apparel sold on the site. Temu offers clothing, accessories, kitchen gadgets and a broad array of other products for bargain-hungry shoppers. Temu and Shein have received criticism over the environmental impact of the ultra-fast fashion business model the two companies follow. They have also faced scrutiny from lawmakers and regulators in the US and abroad over other issues, including some of the products on their platforms. skip past newsletter promotion A weekly ***** in to how technology is shaping our lives Privacy Notice: Newsletters may contain info about charities, online ads, and content funded by outside parties. The company is seeking to drive home its message on value, with banners on its page advertising “crazy low prices” and activewear “that won’t stretch your budget”. “Finding great products at very low prices is important to customers, and we continue to explore ways that we can work with our selling partners so they can offer products at ultra-low prices,” Dharmesh Mehta, Amazon’s vice-president of worldwide selling partner services, said in a statement. “It’s early days for this experience, and we’ll continue to listen to customers as we refine and expand it in the weeks and months to come.” Importing goods from China could soon become more expensive for Amazon. In September, the Biden administration said it was cracking down on cheap products sold out of China, a move designed to reduce US dependence on Beijing but could also trigger higher prices for the US consumers who have flocked to Shein and Temu. President-elect Donald Trump has also proposed a 60% tariff on goods from China. 24. Dictionary of the French Academy presented to President Macron Dictionary of the French Academy presented to President Macron Forty years after they began the task – and nearly four hundred years after receiving their first commission – sages in Paris have finally produced a new edition of the definitive French dictionary. The full ninth edition of the Dictionnaire de l’Académie Française was formally presented to President Macron this afternoon in the plush surroundings of the 17th century Collège des Quatre-Nations on the left bank of the Seine. This is where the 40 wise men and women of the French Academy – so-called immortels (immortals) chosen for their contributions to French language and literature – have met since the body was first created by Cardinal Richelieu in 1635. Their task at the start was to “give certain rules to our language, to render it pure and eloquent” – to which end they set about writing their first dictionary. However, the job has proved so slow – the first book was not produced until 1694 and today it takes more than a year to get through a single letter of the alphabet – that the relevance of the enterprise is increasingly in question. “The effort is praiseworthy, but so excessively tardy that it is perfectly useless,” a collective of linguists wrote in the Liberation newspaper on Thursday. This ninth edition replaces the eighth, which was completed in 1935. Work started in 1986, and three previous sections – up to the letter R – have already been issued. Today the end section (last entry Zzz) has been added, meaning the work is complete. In its press release, the Academy said the dictionary is a “mirror of an epoch running from the 1950s up to today,” and boasts 21,000 new entries compared to the 1935 version. But many of the “modern” words added in the 1980s or 90s are already out of date. And such is the pace of linguistic change, many words in current use today are too new to make it in. Thus common words like tiktokeur, vlog, smartphone and émoji – which are all in the latest commercial dictionaries – do not exist in the Académie book. Conversely its “new” words include such go-ahead concepts as soda, sauna, yuppie and supérette (mini-supermarket). For the latest R-Z section, the writers have included the new thinking on the feminisation of jobs, including female alternatives (which did not exist before) for positions such as ambassadeur and professeur. However print versions of the earlier sections do not have the change, because for many years the Académie fought a rear-guard action against it. Likewise the third section of the new dictionary – including the letter M – defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, which in France it no longer is. “How can anyone pretend that this collection can serve as a reference for anyone?” the collective asks, noting that online dictionaries are both ******* and faster-moving. Under its president, the writer Amin Maalouf, the dictionary committee meets every Thursday morning and after discussion gives its ruling on definitions that have been drawn up in preliminary form by outside experts. Among the “immortals” is the English poet and French expert Michael Edwards, who told Le Figaro newspaper how he tried to get the Academy to revive the long-forgotten word improfond (undeep). “French needs it, because as every English student French knows, there is no word for ‘shallow’,” he said. Sadly, he *******. Discussions – lengthy ones — are already underway for the commencement of edition 10.
