Former NFL player Antwoine Williams charged in Capitol riot
A former professional ********* football player has been charged in connection with the riot at the US Capitol on 6 January 2021.
Antwoine Williams is facing felony charges of civil disorder and assaulting, resisting or impeding police, along with several lesser misdemeanour charges.
He was charged on 7 November, in what is reportedly the first Capitol riot-related case filed since Donald Trump won the presidential election.
Mr Williams, a defensive player from Georgia, was a college star at Georgia Southern University before being drafted by the National Football League’s Detroit Lions.
He played one season in 2016 before being released by the Lions and had brief stints with several other ********* football teams.
According to court documents, Mr Williams, 31, was seen on videos from the Capitol riot, where thousands of pro-Trump activists broke into the building after his 2020 election loss, pulling on barricades and hitting a police officer on the head, and struggling with other officers.
Prosecutors say he stayed on the Capitol grounds until the evening of 6 January.
He was identified by a golf hat and a distinct key fob that he was wearing during the riot that matched other online photos of Mr Williams.
Online volunteers known as “sedition hunters,” who use online videos and pictures to hunt for rioters, identified the brand of the hat and nicknamed Mr Williams “RiotingGolfer”.
More than 1,500 people have been arrested in connection with the riot, when a crowd of Donald Trump supporters stormed the building that houses the US Congress in an attempt to stop certification of Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election.
Donald Trump has promised to pardon some of the rioters, although he has not made clear what criteria he would use to do so.
Several convicted or accused rioters have asked for their trials or sentencing hearings to be delayed because Trump’s promise might affect their cases. On Thursday, two judges delayed such hearings, however other judges have turned down similar requests.
The FBI is still looking to identify dozens of other suspects who were present at the Capitol that day.

Joel Embiid shoving incident a microcosm of our society’s loss of respect for one another
Joel Embiid shoving incident a microcosm of our society’s loss of respect for one another
Joel Embiid’s postgame media gaggle went off without issue Tuesday night in New York, following the Philadelphia 76ers’ loss to the Knicks. There was no emotional confrontation between him and a reporter, unlike the previous week when he cursed and shoved a Philadelphia Inquirer columnist for writing a piece he viewed as crossing the line between professional and personal commentary.
Dustups between professional athletes and reporters are as old as the games themselves, with the earliest known high-profile incident dating back to 1907 and baseball great Ty Cobb. But something felt different about the incident between Embiid and columnist Marcus Hayes, who angered the 7-foot All-Star center by mentioning Embiid’s son and late brother in a piece that criticized Embiid’s conditioning and commitment.
I couldn’t put my finger on it until I stepped back to get a macro view. It was then I realized the altercation itself was not the thing gnawing at me. It was what the incident represented: another strong indicator that the deterioration of decorum and respect throughout society is bleeding ever deeper into the fabric of sport.
The thought first hit me in April. LSU was preparing to face UCLA in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament and the Los Angeles Times published a story that characterized LSU’s players, led by All-America frontcourt star Angel Reese, as “****** debutantes” and UCLA’s players as “America’s sweethearts.” The only thing worse than the coded language was the fact that someone actually thought it was a good idea to publish it.
The same holds true for Hayes’ column, which initially began with the following passage: “Joel Embiid consistently points to the birth of his son, Arthur, as the major inflection point in his basketball career. He often says that he wants to be great to leave a legacy for the boy named after his little brother, who tragically ***** in an automobile accident when Embiid was in his first year as a 76er. Well, in order to be great at your job, you first have to show up for work.”
Hayes later apologized in a social media post and rewrote the passage to remove any mention of Embiid’s family, similar to how the Los Angeles Times and its writer apologized and removed the offensive language from their story. Still, it’s hard to read such commentary and wonder whether we’ve lost respect for each other.
Today, people seem more comfortable saying out loud what they used to say only in private. The quiet part is no longer meant to be quiet. And to the extent that sports are a microcosm of society, it was a matter of time before the temperature turned up in reporter-athlete relations.
“You’re reading it precisely correct,” said Dr. Harry Edwards, the respected sociologist, social activist and professor. “Sport inevitably, unavoidably, recapitulates the structure and dynamics of human and institutional relationships in society and the ideological definitions that define and rationalize those relationships. You go back and look at the history of athletes and the sports media, really the media in general, and there has always been a tension there that most people saw as healthy. They looked at the mainstream media and the powers that be, and the expectation was that the media was going to speak truth to power and report accurately to the people. But the tension we see today is different.”
Stephen A. Smith responds to Kevin Durant calling him a “clown”: “I will not disrespect him the same way he disrespects me. It’s unfortunate that no matter how old he gets, his sensitivity seems to heighten with it and his maturity it doesn’t. But that’s something he has to deal… pic.twitter.com/nzujKIJUyU
— Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) November 4, 2024
That is not to say that physical altercations between athletes and reporters are a new phenomenon. The timeline of the last five-plus decades includes Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jim Everett flipping a table on talk show host Jim Rome , Atlanta Braves outfielder Deion Sanders pouring a bucket of ice water over the head of baseball analyst Tim McCarver, Boston Red Sox slugger Jim Rice ripping the shirt of baseball writer Steve Fainaru, San Diego Chargers quarterback Jim McMahon intentionally blowing ***** on beat writer TJ Simers, and Chargers cornerback Elvis Patterson, in a separate incident, sneaking up on Simers from behind and putting a garbage bag over his head before trying to throw him in the shower.
And let us not forget Buffalo Sabers goaltender Dominik Hasek shoving a columnist, Texas Rangers pitcher Kenny Rogers pushing two cameramen and throwing one of the cameras to the ground, Cleveland outfielder Albert Belle throwing a baseball and intentionally hitting a photographer, and New England Patriots cornerback Raymond Clayborn getting physical with Boston Globe columnist Will McDonough, only to regretfully learn that McDonough was as skilled with his fists as he was with his pen.
But, relatively speaking, these types of altercations are outliers. Whether they will remain so is up for debate. Star players are making so much money today, that the threat of a fine or suspension is not the deterrence it once was. And with advances in technology ostensibly making everyone with a working camera phone part of the “media,” the line between what is and isn’t fit for print is as faint as it has ever been.

“There were things that you just didn’t write about in the past,” Edwards said. “The rationalization was, ‘What does that have to do with tomorrow night’s game? He’s not suspended, he’s playing, so we’re not going to write about that. We’re going to focus on the game.’ But today there’s so much media exposure and everyone who has a camera phone is a reporter, and so the boundaries are going to melt away. That tears down the historical relationship.”
We’re then left with a heightened adversarial culture that touches every level of sports coverage. In the last year alone, we’ve seen ESPN media personality Stephen A. Smith call Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant a liar after Durant publicly called him a “clown.” We’ve seen Sanders, now the head football coach at Colorado, accuse reporters of going “on the *******” because some of them earn less than NIL-enriched players. We’ve seen LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey threaten to sue a reporter as a preemptive strike to a planned profile. And we’ve seen the WNBA Players Association seek the revocation of Christine Brennan’s media credential after accusing the USA Today columnist of being “unprofessional” and “abusing” her “privileges” in an interview with Connecticut Sun player DiJonai Carrington.
“Once upon a time you guys never attacked college players, now they’re making more money than y’all and some of y’all are envious and jealous about that so you’re on the *******.”
Deion Sanders had some words for CFB reporters in today’s press conference pic.twitter.com/AYqsTAv7yl
— FOX College Football (@CFBONFOX) September 17, 2024
Sadly, media guardrails have been missing at times, complicating an already complicated relationship. It’s no surprise that pro athletes are making louder calls to have safe spaces from reporters. The NFLPA already has floated the idea of closing the locker room on non-game days, and 76ers star Paul George has made it clear he would prefer a media-free postgame locker room.
But here’s where it comes full circle. Limiting access not only makes it more difficult for reporters to get to know athletes on a personal level, but it also makes it easier to be critical of them. And if it’s easier to be critical of them, it could result in more altercations, particularly when professionalism seems to be decaying at a rapid rate.
“It’s horrible, but this is where we are and, more than that, this is who we are,” Edwards said. “And that is going to be a terrible situation to deal with.”

Amazon questioned by House committee over ‘dangerous’ TikTok deal

Amazon representatives met with the House China committee in recent months to discuss lawmaker concerns over the company’s partnership with TikTok, CNBC confirmed.
A spokesperson for the House Select Committee on the ******** ********** Party confirmed the meeting, which centered on a shopping deal between Amazon and TikTok announced in August. The agreement allows users of TikTok, owned by China’s ByteDance, to link their account with Amazon and make purchases from the site without leaving TikTok.
“The Select Committee conveyed to Amazon that it is dangerous and unwise for Amazon to partner with TikTok given the grave national security threat the app poses,” the spokesperson said. The parties met in September, according to Bloomberg, which first reported the news.
Representatives from Amazon and TikTok didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
TikTok’s future viability in the U.S. is uncertain. In April, President Joe Biden signed a law that requires ByteDance to sell TikTok by Jan. 19. If TikTok fails to cut ties with its parent company, app stores and internet hosting services would be prohibited from offering the app.
President-elect Donald Trump could rescue TikTok from a potential U.S. ban. He promised on the campaign trail that he’d “save” TikTok, and said in a March interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box that “there’s a lot of good and there’s a lot of bad” with the app.
In his first administration, Trump had tried to implement a TikTok ban. He changed his stance around the time he met with billionaire Jeff Yass. The *********** megadonor’s trading firm, Susquehanna International Group, owns a 15% stake in ByteDance, while Yass has a 7% stake in the company, NBC and CNBC reported in March.

Eva Longoria says her family no longer lives in ‘dystopian’ US
Eva Longoria says her family no longer lives in ‘dystopian’ US
Hollywood actress Eva Longoria has revealed that her family no longer lives in the ******* States, and is splitting time between Mexico and Spain.
In an interview with French magazine Marie Claire for its November cover story, Longoria attributed the decision to the country’s “changing vibe” after the Covid-19 pandemic, homelessness and high taxation in California, and the re-election of Donald Trump.
She also acknowledged she was “privileged” enough to move, saying: “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country.”
The Desperate Housewives star is viewed as a power broker for women and Latinos in Democratic Party politics.
With a keen interest in immigration policy, she has been visibly involved with Democratic candidates at the national and local level since at least 2012.
She spoke at the Democratic National Convention and hit the campaign trail on behalf of Kamala Harris this year, with a tagline for the 2024 presidential candidate that adopted the Spanish translation of Barack Obama’s famed “Yes, we can” slogan (“Si se puede”) into the phrase “She se puede”.
In her Marie Claire interview, published on Thursday, Longoria described being dispirited at Trump’s victory over Harris last week
“If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place,” she said.
She added that Trump’s win in 2016 had crushed her belief that “the best person wins” in politics.
“I had my whole ****** life here,” Longoria said of Los Angeles, adding that “it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now”.
She said work now has her often spending time in Europe or South America.
Longoria is a ninth-generation Texan who moved to California in her twenties. In 2006, she earned a Golden Globe nomination in her starring role as Gabrielle Solis in Desperate Housewives.
More recently, she has hosted the CNN mini-series Searching for Mexico and Searching for Spain.
She is married to José “Pepe” Bastón, her third husband and the president of ******** broadcaster Televisa.
The couple share a six-year-old boy, Santiago, while Bastón also has three children from a previous marriage.

Rays to play 2025 home games at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa after hurricane damage to Trop
Rays to play 2025 home games at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa after hurricane damage to Trop
The Tampa Bay Rays, for the first time in their history, will actually play their home games in Tampa. The team’s home slate will take place at George M. Steinbrenner Field, the spring training home of the New York Yankees.
Tropicana Field, the Rays’ home facility, was “significantly damaged” during Hurricane Milton on Oct. 10, with the roof being ripped off. The Rays selected Steinbrenner Field because it was the “best-prepared facility in the Tampa Bay region,” according to a news release.
“We deeply appreciate that the Yankees have graciously allowed us to play at Steinbrenner Field for the 2025 season,’’ Rays owner Stu Sternberg said in the statement. “The hurricane damage to Tropicana Field has forced us to take some extraordinary steps.”
“We are happy to extend our hand to the Rays and their fans by providing a major-league quality facility for them to utilize this season,’’ Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said in a statement. “… We understand how meaningful it is for Rays players, employees and fans to have their 2025 home games take place within 30 minutes of Tropicana Field.”
There has been no determination yet as to how the change will impact the Tampa Tarpons, the Yankees’ Single-A affiliate and Steinbrenner Field’s normal regular-season occupant.
The Rays also talked extensively to the Philadelphia Phillies about using the Phillies’ spring training complex in nearby Clearwater, which offered advantages because it’s also located in Pinellas County. However, the Rays opted for Tampa for several reasons. One is that Steinbrenner Field seats upward of 2,000 more fans, which could translate into significantly more revenue over 81 games.
Another is that the Yankees’ facility was viewed by the club as having facilities – particularly in and around the clubhouse – that are more suitable to housing a major league team over six months, as opposed to six weeks.
A third is that ultimately, the Rays preferred the central location offered by a stadium in Tampa, as opposed to Clearwater, which is a longer drive for much of their fan base.

A damage assessment report released earlier this week estimated that Tropicana Field would not be ready before 2026, and would cost around $55.7 million in repairs. It is possible much of the damage could have been avoided if the team had replaced its roof in the years prior.
With the team hoping to move into a new St. Petersburg venue in 2028, it is unclear what the long-term plan for the Rays will be beyond 2025. Steinbrenner Field has a capacity of 11,000 and notably does not have a roof given the rainy weather typical for the region throughout the summer. It has, however, recently undergone renovations to expand clubhouse space, improve the lighting and upgrade the facilities writ large.
The Rays will be the second MLB team playing in a minor-league stadium in 2025, with the Athletics planning to spend the next three seasons at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, Calif., ahead of their move to Las Vegas in 2028.
The Rays and league prioritized playing the team’s home games in the region, rather than moving to a larger or domed facility. It’s also not the first time regular-season games will be played at a Tampa-area spring training site. The Toronto Blue Jays opened the 2021 season with home games at their spring training site in Dunedin.
“Given the significant challenges caused by Hurricane Milton, I appreciate the hard work and collaboration between the two teams,” commissioner Rob Manfred said in the release. “This outcome meets Major League Baseball’s goals that Rays’ fans will see their team play next season in their home market and that their players can remain home without disruption to their families.”

Atomfall, Which Is Basically British Fallout, Gets Release Date And Trailer
Atomfall, Which Is Basically British Fallout, Gets Release Date And Trailer
June’s Xbox Showcase showed off the first look at Atomfall, a first-person survival-action title that seems to have a lot in common with the Fallout franchise. Now, Rebellion Developments’ very British take on the post-apocalypse has a release date: March 27, 2025. A new teaser trailer accompanied that announcement, which sends the viewer into Casterfell Woods, a creepy and bizarre English forest.
If the eerie red telephone box reminds you of Doctor Who, that’s not a coincidence. In a guest post on Xbox’s official site, Rebellion’s associate head of design, Ben Fisher, confirmed that the long-running British sci-fi series was an inspiration for Atomfall. Somewhat like Fallout, this game’s alternate history diverges from our own in the 1950s. It also draws upon the real-life nuclear accident during the Windscale ***** in 1957. Within the world of the game, the fallout from that incident charted the course for Atomfall’s dark future.
One of the players’ goals is to discover what really happened at Windscale, but survival is a more immediate concern. As shown in the video, the inhabitants of Casterfell Woods won’t hesitate to put down the player’s character. There’s also an enigmatic voice on the other end of the phone that says, “Oberon must ****.” Oberon was the king of the ******** in medieval literature, and he was also a featured character in William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. While the Oberon in the Atomfall is probably not the same character, there’s presumably a reason why that name was chosen.
Atomfall will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. It will also be on Game Pass on the first day of its release.

Thompson, Purcell keep Aussie flag flying at ATP Finals
Thompson, Purcell keep Aussie flag flying at ATP Finals
Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson have ensured there will still be *********** interest at the business end of the ATP Finals following the singles exit of Alex de Minaur as they roared into the semis of the doubles in Turin.
The pair, who’ve already won the US Open and reached the Wimbledon final together this year, became the first *********** duo since the ‘Woodies’ – Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge – to make the last-four at the season-ending men’s championship since 1999.
Sydney pals Purcell and Thompson, who have enjoyed a terrific season in both singles and doubles, had to fend off four set points in the opening-stanza tiebreak against Spain’s Marcel Granollers and Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos on Thursday at the Inalpi Arena before prevailing 16-14.
Once they’d come through that minefield though, grabbing the advantage on their own sixth set point, they relaxed, raced into a 3-0 lead in the second over the No.2 seeds and went on to record a 7-6 (16-14) 6-3 win in 97 minutes.
The fifth seeds, who had needed to win just one set to proceed from the ‘Mike Bryan Group’, ended up doing better than that with the victory ensuring they join fellow Finals debutants Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten, who beat them in the Wimbledon final and in the group stages in Turin, in the semis.
“We’ve both had incredible years, and when you’re trying to toss up doubles and singles, it’s so tough on the body,” admitted Thompson after the pair had earned their 41st Tour-level victory together in 2024.
“We’ve just done our best. We’ve probably played over 50 matches together, so that tells you we’re doing something right.”
“(Granollers and Zeballos) are a top-two team in the world, and I felt we like started levels above that, to be honest,” said Purcell.
On Saturday, the *********** pair will meet the winners of the ‘Bob Bryan Group’, which will be finalised on Friday, with Germans Tim Puetz and Kevin Krawietz currently looking the most likely opponents.
Australia’s Olympic champion Matt Ebden and his 44-year-old playing partner Rohan Bopanna have no chance of making it from that group, having lost their opening two matches.

No one wants to play Ole Miss, SEC QB draft stock updates and more: What’s on Bruce Feldman’s radar
No one wants to play Ole Miss, SEC QB draft stock updates and more: What’s on Bruce Feldman’s radar
Georgia was the overwhelming preseason No. 1 team. Texas is the highest-ranked SEC team in the College Football Playoff at No. 3. Alabama has more Top 25 wins this season than the CFP’s top five teams combined.
But the SEC team that no one wants to play right now is one that isn’t even in the top 10.
“If you ask me right now which team I’d least want to face, it’s Ole Miss,” said an SEC defensive coordinator of a Top 25 team. “They’re now the most talented defensive team in the league. They have all these difference-maker pass rushers and a true lockdown corner in Trey Amos.
“They just got all these dudes up front. Three guys in the top five of sack leaders in the SEC (Suntarine Perkins, 10 sacks and No. 1; Princely Umanmielen, 9.5 sacks and tied for No. 2; and Jared Ivey, 7.5 sacks and tied for No. 5). That’s crazy! (J.J.) Pegues was a featured guy for them last year; he’s still really good (11.5 TFLs, two sacks) and he’s not even one of their top three! Walter Nolen is also really good. An inside guy with four sacks is pretty dang good. It’s really impressive.”
The other part of this that multiple SEC assistant coaches noted was that Ole Miss beat up Georgia even though the Rebels were without their best player, Tre Harris, a wide receiver who has been dealing with a lower-body injury. Harris’ 141 yards per game leads the country.
Last Saturday the Rebels held Georgia to its fewest points of the Kirby Smart era (10), its fewest total yards in seven seasons (245) and its fewest rushing yards since 2021 (59). Ole Miss leads the SEC in yards per play allowed in games against ranked opponents among the 14 teams who have faced at least two Top 25 opponents. Last year, the Rebels were ***** last in the SEC at 7.81 YPP in those games.
To say Ole Miss has a ferocious defensive front is an understatement. It’s why defensive line coach Randall Joyner, a Larry Johnson protege, is making a good case to get Broyles Award consideration. That award is given to the nation’s top assistant, but, of course, Rebels defensive coordinator Pete Golding is also making a compelling case. Ole Miss has 23 more TFLs than anyone else in the SEC (103) and 18 more than anyone else in the country. It also has 13 more sacks than any other team in the SEC.
Four players already have double-digits in TFLs, and Ivey is close at 9.5. Last year, they only had one guy in double digits (Ivey with 11.5) Eight Rebels have at least four TFLs.
A big piece of that impact is due to the commitment Ole Miss made this offseason to upgrading its talent in the trenches through the portal.
Umanmielen, who transferred from Florida, and Nolan, who transferred from Texas A&M, were the big headliners. But other transfers are making a statement: top tackler Chris Paul Jr. (74 tackles, 10 TFLs) from Arkansas; second-leading tackler T.J. Dottery from Clemson; Amos from Alabama; and defensive back John Saunders from Miami (Ohio). Some current leaders transferred three years ago, like the 325-pound Pegues (Auburn), Ivey (Georgia Tech) and linebacker Khari Coleman (TCU).
The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Umanmielen has had 11.5 TFLs and 8.5 sacks in his last six games and has emerged as a dominant force for the Rebels.
“His quick get-off is phenomenal,” a Rebels coach told The Athletic this week. “He sets them up where he wants to counter them, sometimes with a spin move, or he will go speed-to-power rush at times. One of the (Georgia) tackles overset too quickly because he was so worried about Princely’s speed rush, so (Umanmielen) countered him with a spin move and was able to get a sack. He’s very smart and does a good job of studying the opposing tackles. He picks them apart.”
Umanmielen only played one snap in a 29-26 loss to LSU due to injury.
“If we had him, we win that game,” said that Rebels coach.
The 6-1, 210-pound Perkins, a former five-star recruit, has been another nightmare for offenses.
“He’s so freakin explosive. He’s one of the best QB spies in the country,” said the Rebels coach.
“He is stronger than you think at the point of ******* for being a lighter guy,” said a rival SEC DC who has seen a lot of Ole Miss on crossover film. That coach has been very impressed with the job Golding has done this year. “They run more games than he used to at Alabama. He’s been really aggressive on first and second downs and he has really cut that D-line loose.”
Suntarine Perkins (4) has been a force of nature for the Rebels. (Petre Thomas / Imagn Images)
What else is on my radar
Trends in the coaching carousel
The coaching carousel often follows perceived trends. This winter is not expected to have a lot of changes, but one thing to watch is whether older, proven winners from lower-levels of football are in vogue. Why? Athletic directors and search company heads have taken note of what has happened at Indiana this year, I’m told.
Curt Cignetti has led the Hoosiers to a 10-0 start. The 63-year-old began his head coaching career in 2011 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the Division II PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference), where he spent six seasons before moving on to FCS Elon in the CAA (Coastal Athletic Association), where he went 14-9. Cignetti was then hired at James Madison, where that program elevated to FBS under him; JMU went 11-1 last year in the Sun Belt. Cignetti follows in the success of Lance Leipold, a former Division III coach who has won big everywhere he’s been while moving up.
Cignetti’s established ways in running a program have paid off in Bloomington. It’s why Skip Holtz, who has spent over two decades as a head coach outside the Power 4 and is now winning big in the UFL, could be in play for the Southern Miss and Rice openings. Same for Sam Houston’s K.C. Keeler, a 65-year-old who has won two FCS national titles. Keeler took a team that went 3-9 in its first season in the FBS in Conference USA to a 7-2 mark that began with a blowout win at Rice in August.
Keeler, I expect, will be in play for the Rice vacancy as well as USM.
SEC QB draft stock
Georgia QB Carson Beck’s draft stock isn’t the only one in an interesting spot. LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier, a redshirt junior who spent much of the previous two seasons on the sidelines watching Jayden Daniels, had begun to emerge as the top quarterback prospect in the 2025 class, according to our NFL draft expert Dane Brugler. But that changed since halftime of the Tigers’ loss to Texas A&M last month.
Nussmeier, the son of Eagles QB coach Doug Nussmeier, ranks No. 30 on Brugler’s latest Top 50 Big Board. “With only 10 collegiate starts on his resume, Nussmeier would be wise to return to school,” Brugler wrote.
GO DEEPER
NFL Draft 2025 Big Board: Travis Hunter takes No. 1 spot, 4 QBs in updated top 50
In recent weeks, defenses have continued showing him different pictures and giving him different looks, whether that meant to show six up and bring pressure, or drop out people off the edge.
Nussmeier has thrown five INTs in the last two games — both double-digit losses. Still, his arm talent is tantalizing.
“I do think he’s the most talented,” a long-time NFL scout told me. “If I were a GM, I would pick him over all these guys. He just needs to play a lot more. I think he’s seeing things that he’s never seen before. He’s got 11 starts and it’s starting to show. (Texas A&M coach Mike) Elko did some stuff to him, and he looks confused.”
“I think he’s as good as any of them,” another SEC DC said. “He is way more aggressive than Carson Beck. He is a true gunslinger, where he’s like, if my guy is covered, I can throw him open — and 70 percent of the time he’s gonna be right. He’s also cost his team at times because they are so much more one-dimensional than Georgia is.
“This **** is probably taking a beating right now. This **** is like Brett Favre. He’s a freaking gunslinger. If he figures it out, in another year or whatever, he can have a really great career. I’m telling you: In big moments, in two-minute drives, you’re like, ‘Holy *****, this dude is good.’”

What happened to Carson Beck? Coaches and scouts on Georgia’s “struggling” QB
A wild-card QB prospect
The biggest wild card in the 2025 NFL quarterback draft class is Louisville’s Tyler Shough. The 6-5, 230-pounder began his career at Oregon before transferring to Texas Tech before transferring again to Louisville. He’s thrown 20 touchdowns and five INTs this season and has thrown nine TDs and just two picks in four games against Top 25 opponents.
“The guy with the best tape in terms of the physical tools is Tyler Shough,” said an NFL scout. “When you watch him compared to the Riley Leonards, Will Howards and Kurtis Rourkes, throw Mark Gronowski in there, Shough’s arm talent looks head and shoulders better. I know there are some age and durability questions about him. He’s never finished a season, so knock on wood, I hope he makes it through this year. He can really chuck it. If you were to tell me four years from now that he’s been able to stay healthy and is a winning starter in the NFL, I wouldn’t be shocked by that.

Taylor Swift is here, along with fall viruses. How to stay ‘safe and sound’
Taylor Swift is here, along with fall viruses. How to stay ‘safe and sound’
The day has finally arrived for excited Swifties in Canada, as Taylor Swift kicks off her highly-anticipated Toronto concert Thursday evening for her Eras Tour at the Rogers Centre.
While the city’s downtown and public transit are set to be flooded with fans eager to catch the superstar, health experts are urging concertgoers to stay vigilant.
With cold and flu season in full swing, along with recent increases in RSV, COVID-19 and walking pneumonia, they warn that packed venues and crowded trains could turn into hot spots for spreading germs.
“There aren’t many things in Toronto that the Taylor Swift concert is not affecting, and transmission of ******** is no exception,” explained Dr. Barry Pakes, a public health physician and associate professor at the University of Toronto’s Department of Family and Community Medicine.
“As we saw during COVID, the first thing to go was mass gatherings and the last thing to come back were massive gatherings. And this Taylor Swift concert is as massive of a gathering as we can get.”

Toronto is preparing for an influx of hundreds of thousands of Taylor Swift fans as the pop superstar kicks off her six sold-out concerts. Each show is expected to draw a crowd of 50,000 to 60,000 fans.

How officials are keeping Swifties safe and sound during Toronto Era’s shows
Respiratory illnesses like the common cold, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), COVID-19 and walking pneumonia are just some of the viruses circulating that can spread easily in crowded or indoor settings, he warned.
He noted that there have been significant surges in COVID-19 cases in hospitals over the past few weeks, which may not yet be reflected in federal or provincial data, especially since the virus is no longer monitored through wastewater systems in most jurisdictions.

Toronto Public Health also reminded that having vaccinations against the flu and COVID-19 can help reduce any risks, asking their followers: “Are you ready for it?”

The City of Toronto posted a similar note from Toronto Public Health several days ago to followers.
“If you’re feeling ***** and you can’t ‘shake it off’, please think about your fellow fans. Don’t get ‘haunted’ by a cough. Consider wearing a mask, covering your cough or sneezes & getting vaccinated days in advance of the concert,” health officials wrote.
The latest respiratory virus data from Health Canada, as of Nov. 2, shows that enterovirus, rhinovirus (the common cold) and COVID-19 are currently the most prevalent viruses circulating across the country. However, Health Canada also reports that COVID-19 cases are decreasing.

Walking pneumonia has also seen a rise in parts of Canada, especially among children. It spreads easily through the air when an infected person breathes, talks, coughs, or sneezes nearby.
Singing can spread droplets
Influenza, RSV, pneumonia and COVID-19 are primarily spread through respiratory droplets and can also be transmitted by contact with infected surfaces. When people gather indoors, especially in close quarters and during colder months, the risk of these viruses spreading increases, Health Canada says.
An infected person releases respiratory particles of various sizes into the air, which can spread up to one metre.
And it can spread even further if a person is singing, Pakes warned.
“You’re travelling, number one. Number two, you’re in a massive, massive gathering. And number three, people are going to be singing and shouting along…. and by doing so they are distributing those particles much further” he said.

You can become infected with a respiratory illness if you inhale infectious particles, or they come into direct contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth, according to Health Canada.
Another way these viruses spread is through touching someone who has infectious particles on their hands or clothing, then touching your own face before washing your hands. For example, shaking someone’s hand could transfer the virus if they’ve come into contact with infectious secretions.
Infectious particles can linger on surfaces after being touched or sneezed on by an infected person.
High-touch areas like phones, door handles and elevator buttons are particularly vulnerable. You can get infected if you touch these surfaces and then touch your face without washing your hands, Health Canada warns.
The influenza virus, RSV and rhinovirus can survive on surfaces for several hours, while COVID-19 can remain active for up to several days.

How to stay ‘safe and sound’
Since respiratory illnesses mainly spread through inhalation, the best way to stay safe is by wearing a well-fitting respirator to prevent inhaling infectious aerosols, said David Fisman, a Toronto-based physician epidemiologist.
“I get that people may not be feeling it with respect to masking up, but if you actually want to avoid infection that’s the way to go,” he said.
Pakes echoed this sentiment.
Those who need to be most cautious are individuals who are immunocompromised or older adults, though these groups likely won’t make up the majority of Taylor Swift concertgoers, Pakes said.
If you’re immunocompromised and heading to see Taylor Swift, Parkes said it’s important to wear a well-fitted mask.

Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ arrives in Canada
Pakes expressed concern that while younger people are attending Taylor Swift’s concert, the real risk ***** in who they interact with afterward. Even if they feel fine, they could still be contagious for days, potentially spreading any illness they pick up to more vulnerable individuals.
Story continues below advertisement
“The general advice for this gathering, is you come home and sanitize and wash your hands. And if you are going to be interacting with others, make sure you are aware of any symptoms,” he said.
If you’re travelling via public transportation, stay vigilant. Respiratory illnesses are primarily spread through droplets, but it’s still important to wash your hands regularly to reduce the risk of transmission, Pakes said.

Everything We Know About Path of Exile 2
Everything We Know About Path of Exile 2
You can argue with me if you’d like, but the ARPG genre is among the very best. It’s peak gaming, with satisfying progression loops, power fantasies, and the type of loot that reminds us of the “one more turn” meme from Civilization. But there’s not as much competition in the genre as we’d like to see, with a few major forces dominating the space. One studio is about to pull ahead of the pack once again. Here’s everything we know about Path of Exile 2!
What is Path of Exile 2?
Path of Exile 2 reportedly began as an overhaul or expansion of the original Path of Exile but quickly ballooned into an entire sequel as developer Grinding Gear Games continued adding quality-of-life improvements, new content, more character classes, and gameplay mechanics that should keep many of us playing for thousands of hours.
The game features a massive campaign spanning six full-length acts, co-op for up to six players, more than 100 unique bosses to challenge you, and the infamous passive skill tree revamped and overhauled for the new generation!
What is the Path of Exile 2 Release Date?
It’s happening, people! You can play Path of Exile 2 starting December 6, following a recent delay, when the ARPG launches into Steam Early Access. It’s unclear precisely how long it will remain in Early Access, though we suspect no less than one year. Either way, there’s already a ton of content to enjoy!
What Are the Path of Exile 2 System Requirements?
Image via Grinding Gear Games
You don’t typically expect the ARPG genre to push the envelope regarding graphics, but Path of Exile 2 appears gorgeous. They’ve fine-tuned the game’s aesthetics from the first one, and as such, the PC system requirements are slightly more demanding, though still approachable.
Please keep in mind that these system requirements will likely change before release!
Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
Processor: 4 Core 2.8 GHz x64-Compatible
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 / ATI Radeon RX 470
Memory: 8 GB RAM

Shadow (Intelligence/Dexterity)
Monk (Intelligence/Dexterity)
Templar (Strength/Intelligence)

How Long is the Path of Exile 2 Campaign?
While most long-time players of Path of Exile will tell you the campaign is essentially a tutorial and that end-game runs comprise most of the experience, don’t let them fool you. Path of Exile 2 is amping up the story mode with six acts and 100 unique environments. Oh, and there are more than 600 monsters to smash, stomp, and slay!
How Many Bosses Are There in Path of Exile 2?
Path of Exile 2 features a staggering 100 unique bosses to defeat. They’re some of the game’s most challenging content and require careful build planning and a firm understanding of its mechanics to overcome.
Do Cosmetics Carry Over From Path of Exile to Path of Exile 2?
According to the game director on Path of Exile 2, your in-game purchases will transfer between both titles. They’ll share most cosmetics, besides where the classes or mechanics don’t line up, and even your stash tabs transfer over. It’s an excellent design choice that should win over many players.
What class are you going to play as first in Path of Exile 2? Let us know in the comments below, or visit the official Insider Gaming community forums to start a thread!

I wasted my day on Bluesky Social and no, I’m not sorry
I wasted my day on Bluesky Social and no, I’m not sorry
I would like to say I saw Bluesky Social’s big moment coming. After all, I joined the social network in April 2023 when few knew about it, and Twitter Founder and ex-charmingly quirky tech CEO Jack Dorsey was leading it.
I rooted around a bit, and despite its threadbare interface, I declared it “quiet, reserved, thoughtful, or even polite. Overall, BlueSky is the equivalent of a social media Shangri-La.”
This week though it resembled the opening hours of a classic ****** Friday ***** at Macy’s as millions of people reportedly joined Bluesky, prompted in part by what may be the imminent collapse of X (formerly Twitter). Sorry, it’s not actually collapsing but instead having a moral collapse since it’s being run by one narcissist who is now aligned with the U.S.’s incoming Narcissist-in-Chief.
Instagram’s Threads has for months served as the safe social media harbor for X refugees, but for as good and as popular as that platform has become, it still has yet to replace the real-time news and information nature that made the original Twitter so compelling. Instagram CEO and Threads leader Adam Mosseri has made it fairly clear that news is not what drives Threads, and he shows little intention of helping it thrive on the platform, at least not yet.
Stefon would love this
I don’t know if Bluesky will be any different, but for the moment, it’s the most exciting place on social media. If Saturday Night Live’s Stefon were describing it, he might say:
“If you’re looking for a good time on social media, look no further. New York’s hottest social media club is Bluesky. Inside it has everything, posts about Alf’s privates, ex-Twitter drifters carrying cute cat pics, and Lizzo wondering if the internet is fun again.”
Since I last checked Bluesky – and it had been months – the platform on mobile and desktop has grown. It’s a cleaned-up version of old Twitter or current Threads but still lacks some key functions like polls and GIFS.
The activity was so frantic on Tuesday that Bluesky Social froze up and started delivering empty pages and artless posts. It really did feel like Twitter 1.0, all that was missing was a Fail Whale.
So many people from so many strata of life were joining that they were sometimes stumbling into their doppelgangers. It seems that while Bluesky was operating mostly in the shadows, some took it upon themselves to adopt the handles of famous people. Lizzo and Mara Wilson (author and the little girl from Mrs. Doubtfire) both found their fake selves. Lizzo resorted to creating a new handle, Lizzobeeating, bsky.social, to combat the @lizzo imposter.
Imposter syndrome
Soon, I was arguing with people on Bluesky about the need for a real verification system and was swiftly reminded that one already exists. You just have to set up a domain for yourself and do something with DNS, and… Right. No normal person is going to do that.
I did find myself having fun on Bluesky. It felt like a homecoming of sorts as more and more people finally gave up on Twitter and marched over to the newer platform. It’s not clear if they were also giving up on Threads – I see no reason to do so – or planned on supporting multiple platforms.
The thing is with these distributed platforms, you could ostensibly post in one place and have it appear elsewhere. I do this on Threads where all my posts get pushed to the Federated platform as well. I don’t visit these other platforms but appreciate the enhanced audience.
I now have roughly 1,000 followers on Bluesky, about a fifth of what I have on Threads and miles away from the 89K (and dropping) I still have on the moribund X. I don’t know what that number means anymore. Followers do not equal engagement, which is the only reason I post on social media.
Threads engagement has improved in recent months, but it’s unpredictable. Bluesky is so new that everyone is jumping on almost every post. That won’t last.
When will the good times end?
I guess I’m now wondering what I do next. Do I shut down X (Twitter) and spend all my time on Bluesky? Do I keep Threads on as a backup? Even if I leave X (Twitter), I won’t delete my account and the record of the good times like when I taught Levar Burton how to Tweet or the first time Captain Kirk (William Shatner Tweeted at me). The internet is far too quick to delete historical records, and I have no interest in joining that unfortunate trend. But staying active on the platform seems less appealing by the second.
Bluesky, on the other hand, is so fresh-faced that it has nothing but appeal. I know that won’t last, just like ******* don’t stay cute. They grow into ****** children and then surly teens before becoming uninteresting adults (or worse).
Whatever happens, Bluesky will never recreate Twitter 1.0, just like Threads can’t really replace it. As a society, we have moved on from that. Open discourse on social media might start fresh and sweet, but it always curdles. I guess we should just enjoy this Bluesky moment – I know I am – but maybe also start thinking about how we return to having these experiences in real life.

Keep buying ‘Trump trades’ through inauguration, Societe Generale says
Cryptocurrencies and banks have been on a tear since President-elect Donald Trump’s victory last week, and Societe Generale thinks these “Trump trades” have more room to run into January. The firm specifically underscored bank stocks, companies exposed to the reshoring theme, small-cap names and crypto. “Trump trades are in full bloom and should continue to outperform until Inauguration Day, in our view,” U.S. chief economist Stephen Gallagher wrote in a Thursday research note. “After that, fundamental US cyclical trades should continue to perform throughout 2025 (such as quality domestics US cyclicality via SG US Reshoring, US Banks, SG Global Nuclear, where the profit cycle is supportive).” From the Nov. 4 close — the session before Election Day — through Wednesday, the small-cap Russell 2000 jumped 6.8%. The SPDR Financial Select Sector Fund (XLF) has also rallied more than 7% during that *******. Meanwhile, bitcoin briefly topped $93,000 for the first time on Wednesday. Gallagher is not the only one on Wall Street who thinks the “Trump trade” has more legs. “The markets are already well into pricing a ‘Trump trade’ that began in September, but the year-end rally has more room to run,” Jason Draho, head of asset allocation at UBS, said in a client note on Monday. Societe Generale said its Trump 2.0 thematic basket has jumped more than 7% in the week since the election, but it is only up 15% in 2024, compared to the S & P 500 ‘s 25% year-to-date gains. The basket still has plenty of room to catch up with the broad market index both in terms of valuation and performance, Gallagher added.

President-elect Donald Trump said Thursday that he will nominate vaccine skeptic and *********** theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as secretary of the Health and Human Services Department.
If the Senate approves Kennedy, the former independent presidential candidate will lead a sprawling department responsible for the huge Medicare and Medicaid health coverage programs, the Food and ***** Administration, and the Centers for ******** Control and Prevention.
HHS’s decisions have a major effect on the U.S. health-care system.
Kennedy, 70, is the son of Robert F. Kennedy, the late U.S. attorney general and Democratic senator from New York who was assassinated in 1968 by a gunman in Los Angeles as he ran for president. He is the nephew of former President John Kennedy who was assassinated in 1963.
Trump in October said that if he was elected, he would let Kennedy “go wild on health.”
“I am thrilled to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as The ******* States Secretary of Health and Human Services,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social site Thursday.
“For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and ***** companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health,” Trump wrote. The Safety and Health of all Americans is the most important role of any Administration, and HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming Health Crisis in this Country.”
Kennedy told NBC News in a recent interview that Trump has said he wants Kennedy to “clean up ***********” at federal health agencies, return those agencies to science-based policies and “make America healthy again.” Kennedy said that “there are entire departments, like the nutrition department at the FDA, that have to go.”
Stock prices of vaccine makers fell earlier Thursday on reports that Trump would tap Kennedy for the HHS post.
Kennedy last year suggested that the Covid-19 virus, which CDC played a major role in combatting, was engineered to “******* Caucasians and ****** people,” and to be less likely to harm “Ashkenazi Jews and ********” people.
He previously promoted theories that autism was linked to childhood vaccines, a connection that has been disproved.
Kennedy outraged many of his siblings by endorsing Trump in August after abandoning his long-short presidential candidacy.
Trump’s selection of Kennedy came a day after the *********** president-elect tapped Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz as attorney general.
Gaetz’s selection immediately sparked controversy due in large part to the fact that the Department of Justice, which he would lead as AG, previously investigated him for possible **** trafficking of a 17-year-old girl.

Tropical Storm Sara forms in Caribbean, could threaten Florida next week
Tropical Storm Sara forms in Caribbean, could threaten Florida next week
ORLANDO, Fla. — The National Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Sara formed in the Caribbean on Thursday and long-term forecast models show it could enter the Gulf of Mexico and turn toward Florida’s Gulf Coast.
As of the NHC’s 1 p.m. EST advisory, Sara was located about 205 miles east of Isla Guanaja, Honduras and 50 miles northeast of ***** Gracias a Dios on the Nicaragua/Honduras border moving west at 12 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
The storm became the 18th named system of the 2024 hurricane season. Tropical-storm-force winds extend out up to 70 miles.
A tropical storm warning is in effect for the northern coast of Honduras from Punta Sal east to the Honduras/Nicaragua border and the Bay Islands of Honduras while a tropical storm watch is in place from the Honduras/Nicaragua border south to Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua.
“The system is expected to meander near the northern coast of Honduras late Friday and through the weekend,” said NHC hurricane specialist Larry Kelly. “Some strengthening is possible, if the system ******** over water.”
The NHC said 10 to 20 inches while some areas would get 30 inches of rain over northern Honduras. Up to 15 inches could also fall across the rest of Honduras, Belize, El Salvador, eastern Guatemala and western Nicaragua.
The NHC only forecasts out five days with its projected path and that has it venturing over Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula and dropping back to a tropical depression and entering the Gulf of Mexico.
“It is too soon to determine what impacts, if any, the system could bring to portions of the eastern Gulf of Mexico, including Florida, during the middle portion of next week,” Kelly said. “Residents in these areas should regularly monitor updates to the forecast.”
Long-term forecast models show it getting sucked back to the east once in the Gulf of Mexico.
The interaction with land, though, could mean it doesn’t gather enough strength to grow into a hurricane, but models still show it potentially making a Florida landfall.
“A ridge aloft across Florida will gradually shift east early next week, allowing this system to lift northward into the Gulf of Mexico into Tuesday/Tuesday night,” said National Weather Service Melbourne lead meteorologist Derrick Weitlich.
He notes the models runs as of Thursday morning show a weaker system in the Gulf of Mexico.
“However, there ******** some uncertainty on exact track, and how much land interaction will occur, which could lead to overall intensitydifferences after it emerges into the Gulf,” he said. “It is still too early to say what impacts, if any, may result across east central Florida from this system toward the middle of next week.”
If it does turn and strike Florida, it could become the fourth named storm to hit the state’s Gulf Coast this hurricane season following hurricanes Debby, Helene and Milton.
The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season has produced 11 of hurricanes among the 18 named storms, five of which grew into major hurricanes of Category 3 strength or stronger. The season runs from June 1-Nov. 30.

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway takes a stake in Domino’s Pizza
Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway takes a stake in Domino’s Pizza
Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway built a new stake in Domino’s Pizza last quarter, according to a regulatory filing Thursday. The Omaha-based conglomerate bought more than 1.2 million shares of the pizza chain for a stake worth about $550 million at the end of September. Given its small size in Berkshire’s portfolio, Buffett’s investing lieutenants Ted Weschler and Todd Combs could be behind the investment. The world’s largest pizza chain fell short of Wall Street estimates for third-quarter comparable sales growth in the U.S. as competition for cost-conscious customers continued to ramp up. Shares of Domino’s have underperformed the broader market this year, up just 6%. The S & P 500 has gained nearly 25% in 2024. Berkshire also took a small stake in swimming pool supplier Pool Corp last quarter. The holding was worth about $152 million at the end of the third quarter. It could be another value bet as Pool shares have lost 10% this year. This is breaking news. Please check back for updates.

Vaccine maker stocks fall as Trump chooses RFK Jr. to lead HHS
Vaccine maker stocks fall as Trump chooses RFK Jr. to lead HHS
Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. makes an announcement on the future of his campaign in Phoenix, Arizona, U.S. August 23, 2024.
Thomas Machowicz | Reuters
Shares of vaccine makers fell on Thursday as President-elect Donald Trump nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a prominent vaccine skeptic, to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.
The stocks fell in the final hour of trading as reports emerged about Trump’s expected pick. Moderna‘s stock closed more than 5% lower on Thursday, shares of Novavax fell more than 7% and Pfizer‘s stock ended more than 2% lower.
Shares of BioNTech, the ******* drugmaker that helped develop a Covid vaccine with Pfizer, closed more than 6% lower. British drugmaker GSK, which makes flu shots and several other vaccines, closed roughly 2% lower.
Shares of those companies dipped further in extended trading as Trump confirmed his pick in a post on his platform Truth Social.
Health policy experts have said that a second Trump term could allow Kennedy to elevate anti-vaccine rhetoric, which could deter more Americans from receiving Covid shots and routine immunizations that have for decades saved millions of lives and prevented debilitating illnesses.
Pfizer, Moderna and Novavax are still recovering from falling Covid vaccination rates in the U.S., which have dented their profits over the last two years.
Kennedy’s track record as a vaccine skeptic is extensive. He has long made misleading and false statements about the safety of shots, such as claiming that they are linked to autism despite numerous studies going back decades that debunk the association.
Kennedy is the founder of the nonprofit Children’s Health Defense, the most well-funded anti-vaccine organization in the country.

Can Trump appoint Matt Gaetz without Senate confirmation? Here’s what to know about recess appointments
Can Trump appoint Matt Gaetz without Senate confirmation? Here’s what to know about recess appointments
Washington — President-elect Donald Trump’s selection of former Rep. Matt Gaetz to be attorney general is his most controversial Cabinet pick yet, and the Florida *********** is likely to face obstacles in the confirmation process.
But Trump is seeking an important change to the Senate confirmation process that would allow him to install some officials and sidestep lengthy hearings and a floor vote, in which nominees need a majority vote to be confirmed.
Before Senate Republicans elected their leaders for the 119th Congress, Trump demanded that the candidates agree to recess appointments, which would give him the option of bypassing the Senate’s role of approving or rejecting the president’s nominations. Trump argued that without the ability to temporarily install nominees he would not be able to fill the positions in a timely manner.
The legal basis for recess appointments emanates from a constitutional clause that gives the president “the power to fill up all vacancies that may happen during the recess of the Senate.” A Supreme Court ruling in 2014 concluded that recess appointments could only be made when the Senate is not in session for 10 or more days, after President Barack Obama made controversial appointments when senators were on break.
Senators often leave Washington for long stretches of time, but have utilized pro forma sessions to prevent presidents from installing nominees without their consent.
“In recent years, the Senate — regardless of which party controlled it — has used pro forma sessions to ensure that it is never in recess for more than three days,” said Josh Chafetz, a law and politics professor at Georgetown University.
For Trump to make recess appointments, the Senate would have to agree, through a simple majority vote, to go on recess for at least 10 days. The House must also agree to allow the Senate to adjourn, but Chavetz says if the House does not agree, or if it disagrees with the Senate on the length of adjournment, then the president has the constitutional power to adjourn both chambers for a timeframe of his choosing.
“That second route has never been used before in U.S. history, so no one is quite sure how it would work,” Chafetz said.
A recess appointment, however, does not have the same benefits as a nominee confirmed by the Senate. Without Senate approval, the appointee would not be paid. The appointee can serve in the role for up to two years, depending on when the appointment was made. After that, the individual could be installed again through a recess appointment or the regular confirmation process.
Some senators, including Republicans who will be in the majority come January, showed little appetite for giving up their constitutional power, especially after Trump announced that he intended to nominate Gaetz to lead the Justice Department.
“I was shocked,” *********** Sen. Susan Collins of Maine said Wednesday. “If the president proceeds with that nominee, I think it shows the importance of having the Senate advice and consent process.”
Gaetz resigned from Congress on Wednesday after Trump announced his selection. The timing came days before a House panel was set to vote on releasing a report on whether Gaetz engaged in ******* misconduct. Gaetz was also the subject of a previous Justice Department investigation that sought to determine if Gaetz violated **** trafficking and obstruction of justice laws. No charges were filed, and Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing.
“We have a process around here for considering presidential nominees,” *********** Sen. John Cornyn of Texas said Thursday when asked by reporters about Gaetz. “That’s a constitutional responsibility of the Senate, and I intend to play my part as a member of the Judiciary Committee in doing that vetting and advice and consent.”
“I don’t think we should be circumventing the Senate’s responsibilities, but I think it’s ********** to be talking about recess appointments,” Cornyn added.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is responsible for conducting confirmation hearings for the attorney general nominee. Several other Judiciary Committee members also weighed in Thursday.
“The bottom line is our responsibility in the Senate is advice and consent,” said Democratic Sen. ***** Durbin of Illinois, the committee chairman.
*********** Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina said recess appointments should be used “judiciously,” adding that he has concerns about “blanket recess appointments.”
Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said he could name between “five to 10 Republicans who are seriously considering voting against” Gaetz “and insisting that there will be a vote.”
*********** Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri indicated he would not have an issue if Trump made recess appointments, saying the president “has total authority to make recess appointments.”
Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware urged his *********** colleagues to protect their role in confirmations and encourage Trump to pick confirmable candidates.

Latest Xbox Campaign is Microsoft Really Grasping at Straws after Consecutive, Disastrous Game Releases
Latest Xbox Campaign is Microsoft Really Grasping at Straws after Consecutive, Disastrous Game Releases
Microsoft’s latest Xbox marketing campaign, “This Is an Xbox,” is attempting to re-imagine the gaming experience in a way that may seem very bold and forward-thinking on the surface. The campaign, which will be featured on digital billboards, buses, and online ads, aims to show the entire brand as more than just a gaming console. Instead, it will present the brand as a versatile platform that can be accessed through various devices.
The new marketing campaign is not very well received by the community. | Image Credit: Microsoft
It’s an ambitious plan but not hitting the mark for many. Many fans feel that this marketing shift from console to everything feels like a desperate attempt to cover a deeper problem: the company’s struggle to keep up or compete with Sony in the console wars and its ******** to deliver consistently strong gaming experiences. And players aren’t holding back in calling out the company either.
Is Xbox’s Latest Marketing Campaign Just Desperation in Disguise?
Players are concerned that the company is going to ditch the console. | Image Credit: Microsoft
Microsoft has recently shifted its motives toward software and subscription models, signaling a major change in strategy. A prime example of this shift is the release of Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6 on Xbox Game Pass on day one. It’s an unusual move that shows a change in how the company is approaching gaming. While it’s great for Game Pass subscribers, it also highlights the company’s increasing reliance on its subscription service.
The new marketing campaign, which rebrands Xbox as a platform rather than just a console, has raised eyebrows across the industry. This has caused fans to ask a question: Could this be a sign that Microsoft is quietly preparing to phase out the console itself? The campaign showed that Xbox can be everything, from laptops, and TVs to even VR headsets.
Gamers, particularly those in the Xbox community, have a fairly negative response to the latest campaign. They are criticizing that this is just a transparent attempt to salvage a brand that is continuously losing ground in the gaming industry.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft pulled out of the console business altogether.

— हाजमोला टॉक्स (@HajmolaTalks) November 14, 2024
Fun, but sadly too late to salvage the brand for this generation.
— David (@drushe1983) November 14, 2024
One common sentiment from these comments is that the company, after years of struggling with underwhelming game releases, is now trying to distract fans from its failures by pushing a message of “Xbox Everywhere” that feels more like a desperate plea than a bold step forward.
Players are even speculating that this campaign could be the start of a broader pivot for the company, where it only focuses on software, services, and subscriptions.
It’s not like players’ concerns are invalid as upcoming major releases like Indiana Jones are going to be available across both Xbox and PlayStation platforms and are not going to be exclusive. This is a clear sign that the company is focused on building a subscription-based ecosystem rather than creating a reason for gamers to choose its console over Sony’s.
New Marketing Campaign Is a Double-Edged Sword
Gamers are saying that this is a desperate attempt to remind players of the brand. | Image Credit: Microsoft
On the surface, this marketing campaign seems like a forward-thinking strategy, aimed at expanding the brand’s reach and creating a more accessible, multi-device gaming experience. However, beneath this ambitious plan, there are also various risks that have the potential to undermine the entire brand.
The only strength of this campaign is its effort to showcase the company’s ******* to expand its reach. Highlighting its willingness to tap into the growing demand for cross-platform and cloud-based gaming. The campaign has the potential to attract a broader audience who were not interested in purchasing the console but are now likely to subscribe to the Game Pass.
However, this shift away from focusing on the console itself brings way too many risks as well. The loyal fans, the very gamers who have supported the brand for years, are beginning to feel alienated by the message that ‘Xbox’ is no longer about the console.
For them, the console is the core of their experience, it’s where they play their exclusive titles. By stripping them of this identity, the company risks distancing its loyal console base.
In the end, the whole marketing campaign is a double-edged sword. On one hand, the campaign is a bold attempt to redefine the brand for the future but on the other hand, it is alienating the core fanbase, confusing many consumers, and most of all looking desperate. Let’s see what the future holds.

Cloudflare Stock Is a Solid Buy for 2025
Cloudflare Stock Is a Solid Buy for 2025
Cloudflare sustains momentum and is on track to quadruple earnings in the next four years, which is a tailwind for the market.
Macroeconomic tailwinds are expected to form in the back half of 2025; the forecasts for Cloudflare are cautious.
Cyber attacks are rising at a hypergrowth pace and are unexpected to stop, driving demand for this cyber security stock.
Cloudflare’s (NYSE:) biggest problem in 2024 is its stock price valuation. Trading well over 100X earnings, the market is pricing in significant growth, implying a 4X gain in earnings, but the concerns will disappear in 2025. The company continues to build leverage despite macroeconomic headwinds, and headwinds are expected to revert to tailwinds in 2025, so it will likely grow earnings faster than expected over the longer term.
As it is, the analysts’ consensus outlook is robust and forecasts adjusted EPS to more than quadruple in the next four years.
It may not be until later in the year. Still, falling interest rates and business-friendly presidential policies will reduce the cost of borrowing and ease regulation, clearing the path for business investment. That will result in expanding economic activity across industries and verticals, driving demand for leading business services stocks like Cloudflare.
Because business increasingly depends on websites, eCommerce, and the cloud, Cloudflare is perfectly positioned to capture it.
Cloudflare Sustains Traction in 2024: Outlook Brightens
Cloudflare is sustaining high-double-digit growth in the upper 20% range in 2024. The Q3 results include a 28.2% topline growth that outpaced the consensus by 140 basis points on improved client count and ************. The company acquired 219 new large clients during the quarter, up 28% year over year, and now has 35% of the Fortune 500 under its umbrella.
The net retention rate declined but remained strong at 110%, showing a solid increase in revenue from existing customers.
The margin news is good, with margins trending above targets and improving incrementally on a YOY basis. The company continues to post GAAP losses, but the losses are shrinking. It is on track for GAAP profitability, and the adjusted margins are positive, sustaining free cash flow growth. The adjusted income margin is 15%, and the free cash flow is strong. The FCF grew by 30% to 11% of revenue and is expected to remain strong in Q4 and 2025.
The guidance provides a tailwind for the market in 2024. The market reaction was unenthusiastic, but guidance calls for sustained growth in the mid-20% range in Q4 and the full-year total to outpace the consensus targets. The critical details include the earnings outlook, which also outpaced the consensus targets and is likely cautious.
Cyber attacks are rising at an alarming rate, up an estimated 75% in Q3, with the time and cost of remediation increasing along with it. Businesses need the Internet and Cloudflare to help keep their websites operational and safe.
Analysts Support Cloudflare’s Price, but the Upside is Limited in 2024
Analysts support Cloudflare and show a bullish bias in the data. However, even with sentient firming, the stock is pegged at Hold, and the upside is limited. The consensus target assumes the stock is fairly valued in the low $90s, and most recent revisions suggest the top is near $115.
The high-end range is $135, but that target is an outlier set by Needham & Company over the summer. Likewise, the institutions support the market but provide limited upside. The institutions bought on balance in 2024, including every quarter of the year, but the total activity diminished as the share price advanced.
The technical action is bullish, showing support growing in the low-end range. The market could push the price to the $115 level but may have difficulty moving any higher. That level coincides with a market top set in 2022 and will provide strong resistance. A move above that level is possible in 2024 but more likely in 2025 after subsequent quarters of strength.
The critical level for support is the 150-week EMA, which has provided solid support in 2024. A move below that level could take this stock to the low-end range near $60.

Trump picking Matt Gaetz for AG puts House ****, ***** probe in focus
Trump picking Matt Gaetz for AG puts House ****, ***** probe in focus
Multiple *********** senators gave a chilly reception to President-elect Donald Trump’s selection of Matt Gaetz for U.S. attorney general, putting the former Florida congressman’s odds of being confirmed by the Senate in question.
The surprise announcement Wednesday, and Gaetz’s swift resignation from Congress, also drew attention to a House Ethics Committee probe into allegations that Gaetz engaged in ******* misconduct, illicit ***** use and other wrongdoing.
Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, a *********** on the judiciary panel that will decide whether to advance Gaetz’s nomination to the full Senate, said Thursday morning that he “absolutely” wants to see the ethics committee’s final report.
“I think there should not be any limitation on the Senate Judiciary committee’s investigation, including whatever the House Ethics Committee is generated,” Cornyn told reporters on Capitol Hill.
He added that while “it’s ********** to count votes,” there are “a lot of questions.”
Gaetz had previously been embroiled in a federal investigation into whether he was involved in the **** trafficking of a 17-year-old girl. That probe, which ended last year without charges being filed, was conducted by the Department of Justice — the agency Gaetz would lead if he were confirmed as attorney general.
Gaetz has denied all of the allegations against him. In September, he declared he would stop cooperating with the House panel, while sharing a letter in which he vehemently denied having “******* activity with any individual under 18.”
On Thursday, an attorney for the woman who alleges she had a ******* relationship with Gaetz when she was a minor, said the Ethics panel should release the report.
“Mr. Gaetz’s likely nomination as Attorney General is a perverse development in a truly dark series of events. We would support the House Ethics Committee immediately releasing their report,” John Clune, a partner at Hutchinson ****** and Cook, wrote on X.
“She was a high school student and there were witnesses,” the lawyer added.
A lawyer for Gaetz did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
Calls for the committee to release its report have become more pressing given the unusual sequence of events surrounding Trump’s announcement.
Trump’s selection of Gaetz and the lawmaker’s decision to abruptly resign from Congress the same day, came just two days before the panel was set to vote on releasing its report on the **** and ***** probe, Punchbowl News reported Wednesday, citing sources.
Gaetz’s resignation effectively ends the Ethics Committee probe, because the panel’s reach is limited to members of the House.
Chairman Michael Guest, R-Miss., told reporters Wednesday that if Gaetz were to step down in order to seek the attorney general role, “then the Ethics Committee loses jurisdiction at that point.”
The Ethics panel was slated to meet Thursday behind closed doors, a source familiar with the situation told NBC. It was unclear whether the committee would discuss Gaetz or vote on the report during that confidential meeting.

Several Senate Republicans reacted with bewilderment and skepticism Wednesday about Gaetz being chosen to lead the Justice Department.
Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said she was “shocked” by the decision and predicted that there will be “a lot of questions asked” if his nomination proceeds.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, said she did not believe Gaetz was “a serious nomination for the attorney general.”
Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., another member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said, “I’m all about counting votes, and I would probably think he’s got some work cut out for him.”
Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, said of Gaetz’s expected nomination: “He’s got his work cut out for him.”
But others appeared ready to back Gaetz’s bid.
Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, the judiciary panel’s ranking ***********, said in a press release Thursday afternoon that, “Generally speaking, I vote for confirmation regardless of party or personal feelings because that is my Constitutional role as a Senator.”
“I will do the same for President Trump’s nominees,” Graham said in the statement, which was sent in an email with the subject line, “Elections Have Consequences.”
Sen. Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn., said Thursday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” that “there’s no problem with me. I want to see President Trump’s Cabinet appointed quickly.”
Hagerty said “there has been no one better at channeling the ********* public’s frustration with the weaponization of the Department of Justice than Matt Gaetz.”
When Republicans take control of the Senate in January, they are projected to have a slim majority of two or three seats. Assuming all Senate Democrats vote against Gaetz’s nomination, Trump can only afford a few GOP defections before he would lose the simple majority required to confirm his pick for AG.
Trump has demanded that the next Senate *********** leader agree to send senators home for at least 10 days in order to pave the way for Trump to make “recess appointments,” which would allow him to install Cabinet members and bypass individual confirmation votes altogether.
Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., after being selected to replace retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell as majority leader, said Wednesday that Republicans will “explore all options” to make sure Trump’s nominees move forward quickly.
