Gas prices plummet by double digits in Miami and across Florida. See cost in your area
Gas prices plummet by double digits in Miami and across Florida. See cost in your area
Gas prices are on a yo-yo string. Two weeks ago, they were down. Last week they were up. Now they are down again.
Prices at the pump on Monday, Feb. 17, have plummeted an average of 14 cents in Florida and nearly 16 cents in the Miami area. Nationally, gas is up a few cents per gallon.
In the Miami area, prices are 19 cents a gallon lower than a month ago and 34 cents lower than a year ago.
“Oil prices are trading on the lower end of the range they’ve been in for the past few months,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “This has enabled gas prices to also slip to the lower end of the range they’ve recently been priced at. However, Florida gas prices have been erratic and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see an uptick this week.”
Several North Florida areas are averaging less than $3 a gallon as the region remains the cheapest to get gas in the state, in some places about 25 cents cents less per gallon than South Florida. Naples and Palm Beach County are among the most expensive areas for gas.
Here’s what to know if you’re commuting or traveling in Florida:
Gas prices on a trend.
Gas prices in South Florida
Miami-Dade: The average price: $3 on Monday, Feb. 17, down 15.8 cents from last week, according to GasBuddy’s survey of nearly 1,700 stations in the region. Cheapest gas in the Miami area was $2.69 and the most expensive $4.49.
Fort Lauderdale: $3.02, according to AAA, 14 cents less than last week.
West Palm Beach/Boca ******: $3.17, according to AAA, 12 cents less than last week.
Florida price at the pump
Average: The average price for a gallon of gas in Florida on Monday, Feb. 17, according to AAA, was $3.02, a 14-cent decrease from last week.
Gas prices around Florida
Monday prices, according to AAA:
Bradenton/Sarasota: $2.96
Daytona Beach: $3.02
Fort Myers: $2.99
Gainesville: $3.09
Jacksonville: $2.94
Naples: $3.17
Orlando: $3.01
Panama City: $2.86
Pensacola: $2.89
Port St. Lucie: $3.02
Tallahassee: $2.98
Tampa/St. Pete: $3.04
U.S. price at the pump
Average: The average price for a gallon of gas across the country on Monday, Feb 17, according to AAA, is $3.16, a 3-cent increase from last week.
What the experts are saying
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “The national average has inched higher, driven primarily by sharp gas price increases on the West Coast, where refinery maintenance and outages have created a ripple effect in neighboring states, pushing prices higher in many communities. While most of the country has experienced a relatively quiet week for gas prices, the West Coast has seen rapid increases— a trend that should slow in the coming days. Although the surge remains isolated to the West for now, refinery maintenance will soon begin in other regions, and with the transition to summer gasoline blends underway, prices in most areas are likely to start rising in the weeks ahead. Meanwhile, oil prices remain subdued in the low $70s as President Trump works on a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine— an event that, if realized, could have significant implications for oil markets in the months ahead.”
How to find cheap gas near you
There’s an app to help: The GasBuddy app was built to show motorists prices around them and a fuel tracker can update users on stations that have or don’t have fuel based on supply changes.

GWS star Green to miss AFL season start with injury
GWS star Green to miss AFL season start with injury
GWS midfield star Tom Green will miss the start of the 2025 AFL season with a calf strain.
Giants teammate Sam Taylor will also spend time out of action with a concussion, but he is expected to return for their opening-round clash against Collingwood.
Green picked up the calf complaint during an intra-club match simulation four weeks out from the season, the Giants confirmed on Tuesday.
GWS are hoping Green will only miss their matches against the Magpies and Melbourne before a round-two bye.
At worst, the 24-year-old will spend six weeks on the sidelines.
Green joins forward Callum Brown (hamstring) and midfielder Ryan Angwin (ankle) on the injury list, the duo also facing four to six weeks in rehabilitation.
Taylor suffered a heavy knock during the same simulation after a marking contest with teammates Jesse Hogan and Aaron Cadman.
He will miss their match simulation against Sydney on Friday, but could return for their final pre-season hit-out against Carlton the following week.
The Giants are hopeful veteran midfielder Stephen Coniglio will line up for opening round.
Ruled out for their Swans clash, Coniglio is likely to feature against Carlton after undergoing facial surgery and a shoulder reconstruction in the off-season.
Coniglio had copped a heavy blow to his cheekbone in a marking contest in the Giants’ semi-final loss to eventual premiers Brisbane.
Defender Josh Fahey – who must first serve a four-match suspension – remains on the sidelines indefinitely with a foot injury.

Londoners should be able to live and work in EU countries, Sadiq Khan says
Londoners should be able to live and work in EU countries, Sadiq Khan says
Londoners should be able to live and work in European countries, Sadiq Khan is expected to argue, urging the government to back a youth mobility scheme with the European Union.
It comes as the London mayor hosts a meeting of the EU heads of mission on Tuesday – including the EU ambassador and *** ambassadors of 27 EU member states.
Giving some opening remarks at the start of the meeting, which is aimed at further strengthening London’s relationship with its international partners, Sir Sadiq is expected say he is “strongly in favour” of such a scheme.
The European Commission has made a youth mobility scheme a key demand amid Sir Keir Starmer’s post-Brexit reset with Brussels after years of tense relations under successive Conservative administrations.
The proposal, which has become a major sticking point between the *** and EU, would likely mirror similar arrangements Britain already has with countries including Australia and Japan and would allow 18- to 35-year-olds to move and work freely between countries for up to two years.
Sadiq Khan is ‘strongly in favour’ of a youth mobility scheme for the *** and EU (Lucy North/PA Wire)
Despite growing calls for a youth mobility scheme, the prime minister has repeatedly ruled out striking such an agreement with the EU, saying there will be no return to free movement.
However, Sir Sadiq will argue it would “help to aid economic growth across Europe, but also give young Londoners and EU citizens important life experiences, like the opportunity to work abroad and learn more about our respective languages and cultures”.
“As part of this, I’m keen for us to look at how we can make it easier for schoolchildren from the EU to visit the *** and learn more about our shared ties and history,” he will say.
The mayor is expected to use Tuesday’s meeting to reiterate his view that Brexit “was a mistake that continues to have a negative impact, not just on my city and country, but on the European community as a whole”,
Sir Keir has promised to forge new ties with Europe as part of his plan for a Brexit reset, signing a new defence cooperation agreement with Germany in October aimed at boosting security, investment and jobs in both nations.
The government also signed a defence roadmap with Estonia in October and agreed to cooperate on missile defence.
Sir Sadiq will throw his weight behind Sir Keir’s plan for a reset of relations, saying he “wholeheartedly supports” the mission.
“I remain passionate about growing and improving our relationship across every area possible, and I believe this is essential if we’re to effectively tackle a host of shared challenges, relating to trade, our economies, security, the environment and the rise of an intolerant and anti-democratic populism,” he will say.
“Indeed, at a moment when we see trade wars and tariffs posing a real threat to international affairs, I’m convinced that we should be looking at what more we can do to strengthen our relationship as a counterweight to these trends.”
It comes as the prime minister finds himself on a collision course with Donald Trump over the future of Ukraine and the US president’s latest threat to impose tariffs on the ***, with the government being urged to forge closer trade ties with Europe to counter the threat.
The US president announced last week that he would impose “reciprocal tariffs” on all other countries, charging the same amount as levies imposed on American exports – claiming such a move was “fair to all”.
The policy published by the White House included VAT as a target – which analysts have suggested could knock around £24bn off *** GDP over the next two years.
The Cabinet Office has been contacted for comment.

‘Our plane crashed. It’s upside down’
‘Our plane crashed. It’s upside down’
“Our plane crashed. It’s upside down.”
These were the words of John Nelson, a passenger on a Delta Air Lines flight that had just crashed and flipped while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
All 80 people on board the flight from Minneapolis – 76 passengers and four crew – have survived, the airport’s chief executive has said.
Eighteen passengers were injured. Local paramedics said that three people – a child, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 40s – were seriously injured, but officials said they were not aware of anyone with critical injuries.
“Most people appear to be okay. We’re all getting off,” Mr Nelson said in a video posted to Facebook soon after the ******.
He later told CNN that there was no indication of anything unusual before landing.
“We skidded on our side, then flipped over on our back,” he said, adding that “there was a big fire ball out the left side of the plane”.
Passengers were left hanging upside down in their seats.
“We were upside down hanging like bats,” Peter Koukov, who was also on the plane, told CNN.
Mr Nelson said he was able to unbuckle himself push himself to the ground.
“Some people were kind of hanging and needed some help … and others were able to get down on their own,” he said.
Video footage shared on social media shows people clambering out of the overturned aircraft, with fire crews spraying it with foam.
Passengers were seen being helped out of the plane’s doors by airport staff, with some then running away from the plane’s entrance.
Despite a plane flipping on the runway, Diane Perry said she learned of the ****** when her family called her while she was in line to check her luggage.
“It was kind of ironic that we were in the airport and didn’t know that there was a ****** outside,” she told the BBC.
The reason for the ****** is not yet clear. Two runways will remain closed for several days for investigation and passengers have been told to expect some delays.
Mr Nelson is still processing what had just happened, telling CNN he was “stressed, nervous, shaky still”.
“It’s amazing that we’re still here.”

N Korea scoffs at ‘absurd’ denuclearisation vow by US
N Korea scoffs at ‘absurd’ denuclearisation vow by US
North Korea’s foreign ministry says it will keep bolstering its nuclear force, denouncing a recent joint pledge by the United States, South Korea and Japan for its denuclearisation, according to state media KCNA.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul and Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi held talks on Saturday on the sidelines of a security conference in Munich and issued a statement, reaffirming their commitment to North Korea’s complete denuclearisation.
Pyongyang’s foreign ministry criticised the countries for pursuing an “outdated, absurd” plan, warning against seeking what it called “foolish acts inciting collective hostility and conflicts.”
“As long as the US and its vassal forces’ hostile threat exists, the DPRK’s nukes are means for defending peace and sovereignty and a means for legitimate self-defence entrusted by the constitution of the state,” an unnamed ministry spokesperson said in a statement carried by KCNA, vowing to continue strengthening its nuclear force.
The spokesperson was referring to North Korea’s formal name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
South Korea’s foreign ministry urged the North to cease its illicit weapons programmes and return to the path to denuclearisation.
“North Korea will never be recognised as a nuclear weapons state,” ministry spokesperson Lee Jae-woong told a briefing.
“We hope that they will realise that the development of nuclear weapons and missiles will only hinder their own security and economic development.”
The three-way meeting was their first since the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, who held unprecedented summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during his first term and has touted their personal rapport.
South Korean politicians, after being briefed by the National Intelligence Service, have said that Pyongyang’s recent missile tests were in part intended to “show off its US deterrent assets and drawing Trump’s attention.”
Also in Seoul, South Korea’s military said on Tuesday it has deployed a domestically developed new bunker buster missile named the Korean Tactical Surface to Surface Missile (KTSSM).
The missile – nicknamed Ure, which means thunder in Korean – is capable of conducting simultaneous, precision strikes in a short span of time against North Korea’s long-range artillery systems that could threaten the greater Seoul area in the event of a contingency, the military said in a press release.

Airbus to delay new freighter as A350 problems linger, sources say
Airbus to delay new freighter as A350 problems linger, sources say
(Repeats with headline tag, no change to content of story )
By Tim Hepher
PARIS (Reuters) -Airbus is delaying the arrival of a freighter version of its A350 jet by up to a year and faces hurdles in increasing output of its wider A350 aircraft family in coming months as it wrestles with supply problems, industry sources told Reuters.
The delay in the industry’s latest dedicated cargo aircraft could be announced as early as Thursday when the European planemaker posts annual results, they said, asking not to be named because the discussions remain confidential.
Airbus declined to comment on the schedule for the freighter, which is currently due to enter service in 2026.
The setback to the A350F comes as Airbus also struggles to increase output of existing A350 passenger jets, particularly due to ongoing delays in the arrival of fuselage parts from Spirit AeroSystems, industry sources said.
Those delays could effectively place an informal cap on A350 production through the rest of this year, with Airbus struggling to increase A350-family production above current rates of around six jets a month, the sources said.
However, Airbus is still expected to stick to a published target of hitting 12 A350s a month during 2028, including both passenger and freighter models, they added.
An Airbus spokesperson declined comment on production but referred back to comments given with its nine-month results in October, when Airbus said it was keeping the 2028 target while “actively managing specific supply chain challenges” in 2025.
Spirit AeroSystems declined comment.
Despite friction over trade, freighter planes are in high demand as major cargo carriers in the Gulf and elsewhere look to renew their fleets and fill a gap left by delays in certifying programmes to convert passenger jets into cargo planes.
SPIRIT BREAK-UP
The potential freighter delay is the latest evidence of disruption in global supply chains since the pandemic.
Spirit AeroSystems is at the centre of a rare carve-up of its operations between Airbus and its arch-rival Boeing as the two planemakers act to rescue a critical supplier, which has voiced uncertainty over its future in the absence of the deal.
Boeing agreed last year to buy back its former subsidiary in a deal that hinges on Airbus taking on the supplier’s loss-making Europe-focused activities, including a North Carolina plant that makes a central fuselage section for the A350.
Reuters reported in October that supplies to Airbus of the A350 fuselage sections from Spirit’s Kinston plant were running behind schedule and Airbus later confirmed concerns over the pace of the ramp-up in 2025.
Story Continues
Now, it looks increasingly doubtful whether any significant increase in output of the long-haul A350 family will be possible at all in 2025 and possibly part of 2026, the sources said.
Airbus halved A350 output to five a month during the pandemic and partially restored it to six a month in 2023, since when it has struggled to stay above that level, sources said.
In January this year, Airbus delivered two A350s.
