  1. Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii: Where To Find Battery Packs For Street Surfer Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii: Where To Find Battery Packs For Street Surfer Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii takes you to the high seas, but you will also be subject to walking. Or not. The ever-helpful Street Surfer makes a comeback from Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, allowing you to cruise around Honolulu, Hawaii at your own leisure. Sadly, everything has its limits. As an electric ride, the Street Surfer will eventually run out of battery. This means manually heading to a charging unit and paying a fee to recharge it every now and then. Thankfully, there’s a way to mitigate the process. This guide will walk you through where to find battery packs for the Street Surfer in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Street Surfer Battery Pack Locations in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii In a similar fashion to Infinite Wealth, there are two battery packs available to find and purchase in Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Both of them are located in Honolulu, Hawaii, so you don’t have to travel to Madlantis or any other main location to track them down. It’ll likely take you a while to clear the “fog” on Honolulu’s map. If you just want to get to the locations quickly early on, you can see the exact spots to find battery packs for the Street Surfer in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii below. Location: Treasure Select Pawn (River St.) Name: Street Surfer Battery Pack B Price: $1,500 How to get there: You can follow the Aloha Bridge east and then take a turn north via River St. If you’ve unlocked the taxi stop at Waikiki St., that’s also a good shortcut. Location: Treasure Select Pawn (Chinatown) Name: Street Surfer Battery Pack Y Price: $1,500 How to get there: From Anaconda Blvd., continue heading west until you stumble upon Downtown St. Then, move toward Nirvana Hotel, which doesn’t have a ton going on, except for the pawn shop next to it. If you haven’t cleared the map yet, it might take you a second to stumble upon it. Once you’re in either pawn shop, talk to the merchant NPC inside and purchase the battery packs. The upgrade will hit your Street Surfer automatically, so no extra steps needed. If you have some extra change, both stores offer a few cosmetic options to customize the vehicle. 3. Ever Zoomed In on Banner’s Gamma Gun in Marvel Rivals? Epic Detail Reveals the Game is Hiding a Real Life Location Ever Zoomed In on Banner’s Gamma Gun in Marvel Rivals? Epic Detail Reveals the Game is Hiding a Real Life Location So far, Marvel Rivals has proven to be a smash hit with fans of multiplayer hero shooters such as Overwatch. Developer NetEase Games has been constantly updating the game with tons of new playable characters, maps, features, and whatnot to keep the massive player base hooked. Marvel Rivals is one of the hottest games in the industry right now. (Image via NetEase Games) As many might expect, Marvel Rivals has tons of Easter eggs and references from the big Marvel universe, as it brings us to many new versions of iconic characters and famous places in the comics. However, one gamer has come across a brand-new hidden reference after zooming in on Bruce Banner’s gun. Marvel Rival player finds a strange detail with Hulk’s Bruce Banner On Marvel Rivals‘ official subreddit, a Redditor recently shared a zoomed-in picture of Bruce Banner’s gun. He uses a Gamma Ray Gun that ends up dealing 16 damage when he isn’t bashing around his enemies as Hulk in the game. If you look carefully at the zoomed-in picture, you’ll notice bright green trees, a building, and a parking lot. Beyond the central picture, the six smaller ones that are distorted encircle the gun, while the other half has more bright green boxes that don’t look out of place. What could this image mean? Some gamers believe that Epic Games’ headquarters is in Raleigh, North Carolina. However, according to the top response on the post, the parking lot image is basically being used as a cube map. This would allow the Gamma Ray Gun to be more reflective in the game. Cubemaps are often used in games to save processor power for other things in the game while still delivering realistic-looking reflections. As another user has pointed out, it’s a fairly common image as it’s the default HDRI that’s used by Unreal Engine, giving gamers a sneak peek at some behind-the-scenes game development. Considering the chaotic nature of a standard match in Marvel Rivals, small details like this cube map could be the very reason why the game is running so smoothly. It’s not surprising that the community took so long to notice such a small detail, as Hulk players don’t like to be Bruce Banner for long. Will Marvel Rivals ever get a PvE mode? NetEase is still unsure about a PvE mode in Marvel Rivals. (Image via NetEase Games) NetEase Games has been constantly adding new things to Marvel Rivals, and gamers simply can’t get enough of it. However, there’s one feature in particular that games want to see: player-versus-environment play (PVE). A full-fledged PvE mode in Marvel Rivals has been a persistent request by gamers. However, while chatting with IGN, game producer Weicong Wu dampened the community’s hopes of seeing a PvE mode with future updates. Wu acknowledged that there’s a desire among gamers for a PvE mode and stated that a “hardcore” PvE experience would be completely different from Marvel Rivals, as it is right now. Just like Marvel Rivals, most of the hero-shooters don’t feature a single-player campaign mode. Even Blizzard had to cancel its plans to bring a PvE mode in Overwatch 2. It’s quite a challenge to craft a PvE experience as it needs a different route to design compared to a team-based game. However, gamers can still hope to see a PvE mode in Marvel Rivals at some point. Wu also suggested that the developers are constantly experimenting with new gameplay approaches that can work with the game. With that said, have you found any other hidden reference in Marvel Rivals? Let us know in the comments below. 4. Russia Frees American Prisoner Before Talks With U.S. Russia Frees American Prisoner Before Talks With U.S. Russia released another American held on drug charges on Monday, in what the Kremlin acknowledged was a good-will gesture on the eve of talks between senior Russian and U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia. The American, Kalob Byers Wayne, 28, was arrested on Feb. 7 at a Moscow airport on charges of carrying a small amount of **********. In response to a question about Mr. Wayne’s release, Dmitri S. Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesman, told reporters that the talks in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday would be about restoring relations between Moscow and Washington, and “so certain events can be viewed in this context.” It is not clear how broad the talks will be, but they will focus on the war in Ukraine. The U.S. team is led by officials that President Trump has named to negotiate an end to the war. Mr. Wayne’s arrest came as U.S. and Russian officials were making the final negotiations to free Marc Fogel, an American teacher who was arrested in August 2021 on ********** charges. Mr. Wayne’s detention complicated those talks and may have delayed Mr. Fogel’s release, at least by a few days, according to a person briefed on the talks. In exchange for Mr. Fogel’s release, the United States released Alexander Vinnik, who was serving a sentence in connection with a cryptocurrency exchange that prosecutors said had been used to launder money. But representatives of Mr. Wayne said he was not traded but released unconditionally, as Russian officials sought to remove any potential irritants with the Trump administration before talks on the war in Ukraine. Martin De Luca and Andrew Smith, lawyers who represented Mr. Fogel, were asked to help with Mr. Wayne’s case not long after he was arrested. In a statement, they credited Mr. Trump’s recent diplomatic outreach with securing the release of both Mr. Fogel and Mr. Wayne. “Under President Trump, we are witnessing a shift in diplomatic strategy — one that prioritizes American citizens and engages directly to resolve wrongful detentions with urgency and strength,” the statement said. The release was reported earlier by The Associated Press, which identified the American as Kalob Byers. While Mr. Fogel was tried and spent years in a Russian prison, the Trump administration secured Mr. Wayne’s release just 10 days after his arrest, at Vnukovo International Airport. Mr. Wayne was traveling to Moscow with his Russian fiancée, Naida Mambetova. Both Ms. Mambetova and Mr. Wayne were questioned, and Mr. Wayne was taken into custody. Mr. Wayne’s lawyers said he had only a small amount of medically prescribed **********. Still, he was charged with a drug offense that carries a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years. 5. Analysts are bullish on this liquefied natural gas stock that went public last month Analysts are bullish on this liquefied natural gas stock that went public last month Wall Street analysts are bullish on the future Venture Global , the second pure-play publicly traded liquified natural gas company in the U.S. Venture Global started trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Jan. 24 in one of the largest initial public offerings for an energy company in years. Venture’s stock has subsequently fallen 36% below its IPO price of $25 per share to $15.96 as of Friday’s close. But Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Bank of America, Deutsche Bank, RBC Capital Markets and Mizuho Securities have all initiated coverage of Venture with the equivalent of buy rating. Goldman has $29 price target, which would deliver about 82% upside from current levels, while JP Morgan has a $25 target, suggesting about 57% upside. The investment banks believe Venture’s unique construction and operating model will allow the company to build out LNG export facilities more quickly than competitors and deliver upside to the nameplate capacity of these facilities once they are online. Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Bank of America were the lead underwriters for the IPO. RBC Capital Markets, Mizuho and Deutsche Bank also served as underwriters. VG 1M mountain Venture Global shares over the past month. Venture’s Calcasieu Pass and Plaquemines facilities on Louisiana’s Gulf Coast have quickly turned the company into the second largest LNG producer in the U.S., behind Cheniere , with 30 million metric tons per year of capacity either under construction or in commissioning, according to JPMorgan. Venture has three other facilities under development though they have not yet reached final investment decisions. If all these facilities come online, Venture will have total potential capacity of 179 million metric tons per year if excess capacity and expansions at current sites are included, according to JPMorgan. The LNG industry has been plagued with execution problems with projects taking more than six years to reach completion in some cases. Venture, however, has a “lego block” development approach in which the company assembles prefabricated, standardized modules on site “leading to faster deployment and scalability versus traditional bespoke, stick-built designs,” according to JPMorgan. Faster construction timelines and the potential to run above the facilities’ nameplate capacities could provide “significant cash flow upside and high returns on capital,” Goldman Sachs analysts led by John Mackay and told clients in a Monday note. Venture’s nameplate capacity is underpinned by contracted volumes, but the company has potential to produce above this level and future sites are expected to have a significant portion of estimated capacity left uncontracted, according to JPMorgan. This would allow Venture to sell uncontracted volumes and plow the proceeds into future expansions, according to JPMorgan. The potential to sell uncontracted volumes would allow Venture to exploit the difference between low natural gas prices in U.S. and higher international prices, according to Goldman. Peers have not been able to advantage of this due to their contracts, according to the investment bank. Since U.S. LNG exports began in 2016, uncontracted LNG capacity would have realized higher cash margins on more than 60% of operation days, Goldman’s Mackay said. Key risks to the Venture include LNG spread pricing volatility, ongoing arbitration disputes with customers, the company’s high leverage, increased competition from competitors with greater financial capabilities and project execution, according JPMorgan. While individual LNG production trains have demonstrated excess capacity at Calcasieu Pass, Venture still needs to prove that it can sustain this, JPMorgan analysts led by Jeremy Tonet said. “We note VG pulling forward or pushing back expansion time lines on the first three facilities will materially impact our valuation,” Tonet’s team told clients. — CNBC’s Michael Bloom contributed to this report. 7. Why Doesn’t My Son’s Adviser Understand That Boys Will Be Boys? Why Doesn’t My Son’s Adviser Understand That Boys Will Be Boys? In December, my son attended a religious retreat away from home. When some of the high school boys were in a room alone with girls, the boys got overexcited, turned off the lights and yelled “Tickle fight!” One of the girls was touched on the shoulder, but nothing remotely ******* happened. The adviser to the group has barred the boys involved from the next retreat. But I think it’s important for them to attend and discuss what happened rather than suffer an exclusionary punishment. Excluding the boys will only make things worse for the girl: Everyone knows she is the reason the boys won’t be there. I think it would be better to have the girl explain to the boys (with adult support) why their behavior was wrong. But I can’t convince the adviser. Thoughts? DAD I think your love for your son is impeding your judgment. When children are at home, their parents are the arbiters of appropriate discipline. But when they go off with youth groups, for instance, those organizations assume responsibility for the ******** of all attendees. My first job was as a teacher at a Swiss boarding school. And chaperoning mixed groups of teenagers overnight was the worst: I was often the lone adult charged with preventing a dozen wily students from drinking, having sex or sneaking off at night. So, if the retreat organizer has decided to exclude the boys who made trouble on the last trip to send a strong message about inappropriate behavior (or because of limited resources for supervision), I find that reasonable. And I disagree with much of your position: You fail to acknowledge that the episode may have been frightening for some girls, even if nothing ******* happened. You are incorrect in stating that the girl is “the reason” for the boys’ punishment; the boys’ behavior is. And no girl is responsible for explaining to teenage boys why unwanted touching is wrong. That is your job! It sounds as if you have already made your pitch to the organization and it was rejected. So, rather than clinging to a minimizing “boys will be boys” argument, I suggest that you sit your son down to discuss the contours of appropriate behavior and the seriousness of unwanted touching. Before ‘I Do,’ Try ‘I’ll Allow It’ My partner and I plan to be married soon. I am child-free; he has five children from his previous marriage. He is close with all of them and has several grandchildren, ranging in age from 6 months to 21 years old. Both of my previous weddings were adult-only (17 and up), and I feel strongly about doing that again for our wedding and reception. But this would exclude some of my partner’s grandchildren, and he feels this would be insulting to his children. Advice? BRIDE-TO-BE By the time adults are entering their second or third marriage, I would expect to see a greater premium placed on compromise, the linchpin of enduring relationships. Like it or not, you are marrying into a large family. And I share your partner’s view that excluding some of his grandchildren from the big day may be offensive to his children — and a bad note on which to start your married life. If you are adamant about the age restriction, send your partner to his children now to determine how many of them want to bring children under 17 to the wedding. Then book a venue (or change to one) with adjacent space to accommodate the younger children and a babysitter (or two) to mind them. My Waist Is Nobody’s Business I am a thin, middle-aged woman who hears the same thing from friends and strangers alike: “Do you eat?” “You must eat super-healthy to be so skinny!” I used to say that I had a fast metabolism, but I am tired of being on the defensive. (Clearly, I cannot reply: “And you must eat too much!”) Why do people think it’s OK to comment on my weight? J. You are absolutely right! It is not OK to comment on other people’s bodies. I don’t know anyone who isn’t self-conscious about some part of his or her appearance. Why go there? Still, as justifiably annoyed as you are, you and I grew up in a culture that told us you can never be too rich or too thin. So, there is probably a complimentary or even envious component in what people are saying to you. I would skip the stinging retort and respond honestly: “I don’t think we should comment on other people’s weight.” One Great Subject for Talk Therapy? Talk Therapy. I have been seeing a therapist for anxiety since 2020. I chose her after a long and frustrating search. She seemed like a good match at the time. I find our gentle chats reassuring, and I like having her as a safety net, but I feel unchallenged. Maybe I need a male therapist. My gut is telling me to move on. Advice? PATIENT Why discuss your therapeutic relationship with me, a stranger, before you’ve talked to your therapist herself? In my experience, that relationship is a rich subject to explore in therapy. And relying on your “gut” or vague ideas about gender — without discussing these issues with your therapist — suggests that it is you who is not challenging himself. Now, get to work (and good luck)! 8. Can the Federal Reserve Look Past Trump’s Tariffs? Can the Federal Reserve Look Past Trump’s Tariffs? As President Trump’s efforts to restructure the global trade system with expansive tariffs begin to take shape, one question continues to dog officials at the Federal Reserve: How will these policies impact the central bank’s plans to lower interest rates? One influential Fed governor made clear on Monday that he did not expect Mr. Trump’s policies to derail the Fed’s efforts to get inflation under control, suggesting instead that fresh interest rate cuts are still in play this year. “My baseline view is that any imposition of tariffs will only modestly increase prices and in a nonpersistent manner,” Christopher J. Waller, the official, said in remarks at an event in Australia Monday evening. “So I favor looking through these effects when setting monetary policy to the best of our ability.” Economists are concerned that tariffs, which are essentially taxes on American consumers, will increase prices in the United States, at least temporarily, and over time slow economic growth. Mr. Waller acknowledged that the economic impact of the tariffs could be larger than anticipated depending on how they are structured and later put in place. But he suggested that any uptick in prices from tariffs could be blunted by other policies, which could have “positive supply effects and put downward pressure on inflation.” Mr. Waller’s views matter given that he is one of the seven officials who make up the Board of Governors and votes at every policy meeting. In addition to tariffs, Mr. Trump has made increasing domestic energy production, deregulation and tax cuts other pillars of his economic agenda. His administration is also pursuing mass deportations of ******** immigrants as well as government spending cuts by, in part, slashing the federal work force. Fed officials so far have been hesitant to infer exactly what these changes will mean for the economy and ultimately the path forward for interest rates. Borrowing costs stand at 4.25 percent and 4.5 percent after the Fed opted last month against further cuts until it gained more confidence that inflation was indeed under control. The last time the central bank had to deal with a prolonged ****-for-tat trade war was in 2018, during Mr. Trump’s first term in the White House. Yet the economic backdrop then compared with today could not look more different. Inflation was subdued and consistently undershooting the Fed’s 2 percent goal. Interest rates were much lower by comparison, hovering around 2 percent. The outlook for economic growth had also turned gloomy as businesses pulled back their big-ticket investments. This dynamic gave the Fed flexibility to respond pre-emptively to ward off a much ******* slowdown in the United States, and by the end of 2019 it had reduced interest rates by three-quarters of a percentage point. That “looking through” playbook could hold this time around if concerns about a hit to growth from tariffs overshadow what could just be a temporary rise in consumer prices. But consumers are still feeling the aftereffects of the worst inflation shock in roughly four decades and remain on edge about future price increases, complicating the situation for policymakers. Fed officials got more unwelcome news on the inflation front last week after the latest Consumer Price Index report showed that price pressures once again heated up in January. The main culprits were surging grocery prices, led higher by a 15 percent jump in egg prices because of the ongoing bird flu outbreak, and rising energy costs. Even once stripping out those volatile items, so-called “core” inflation rose at its fastest pace on a monthly basis in roughly two years. Alarm eased after the release of the Producer Price Index, which tracks what companies pay in goods and services in order to make what they sell. That index suggested that overall inflation, as measured by the Fed’s preferred Personal Consumption Expenditures index, was more subdued than initially feared. Mr. Waller characterized the data as “mildly disappointing” and said that inflation overall was still well above the Fed’s target amid “excruciatingly slow” progress toward that goal over the past year. But he raised doubts about what signals to draw from the most recent data. Consumer price growth tends to run high at the start of the year before slowing in the second half, which Mr. Waller and other economists think could be attributed to seasonal quirks that may obscure the real pace. Research from the central bank’s economists shows that this dynamic has occurred in 16 of the last 22 years. In a separate speech on Monday, Patrick Harker, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, also noted that C.P.I. inflation in January has exceeded expectations nine out of 10 times over the last decade. “If this wintertime lull in progress is temporary, as it was last year, then further policy easing will be appropriate,” Mr. Waller said in his remarks. “But until that is clear, I favor holding the policy rate steady.” Michelle Bowman, another Fed governor, affirmed her support on Monday for a “cautious and gradual” approach to additional rate cuts. Ms. Bowman said that while she was waiting for further evidence that inflation was moderating, she still expected that to happen this year. That is a stance most officials at the central bank have adopted to some degree, emboldened by a solid labor market. Ms. Bowman said she also wanted “clarity” on what the Trump administration has planned. “It will be very important to have a better sense of these policies, how they will be implemented, and establish greater confidence about how the economy will respond in the coming weeks and months,” she said. Ms. Bowman, like Mr. Waller, was appointed to the Fed by Mr. Trump during his first term. The president and his staffers have adopted a more measured tone when talking about their capacity to tame inflation, after having vowed to vanquish it on “Day 1.” Kevin Hassett, the director of Mr. Trump’s National Economic Council, told CBS News on Sunday that the administration has a “multifaceted plan to end inflation,” specifically flagging tax cuts, efforts by the billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk to reduce government spending, deregulation and increased energy production. Still, investors have scaled back their expectations for how much the Fed will lower rates this year. They have also pushed back the timing of those moves on concerns that taken together, Mr. Trump’s policies will lead to higher inflation. Now, futures markets point to a cut of just one quarter point in December. Mr. Harker said on Monday he was “optimistic” not only that inflation would decline over time but that interest rates would “be able to decline over the long run.” “This does not mean that there aren’t areas of potential concern,” he added. “In fact, the only thing I can say with any certainty is that there are many uncertainties.” Source link #Federal #Reserve #Trumps #Tariffs Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

  10. Get Avowed’s Best Weapons By Doing This Optional Side Quest Get Avowed’s Best Weapons By Doing This Optional Side Quest Out of the all the side quests you can embark on in Avowed, Forged of the Star-Stuff has the longest, but arguably most rewarding payoff. This quest begins whenever you find a Fragment of Starmetal and requires you to reach the final map of the game to complete it. The Fragments of Starmetal are difficult enough to find, but having to potentially wait dozens of hours to find out what the metal does can be agonizing. Fortunately, the quest is worth the wait, as you can score yourself an incredible weapon in Avowed with the Starmetal. The question is, how do you find Fragments of Starmetal and complete the quest? Be aware this guide naturally contains some light spoilers. First and foremost, once you find a Fragment of Starmetal, the Forged of Star-Stuff quest is automatically triggered in Avowed. You can view the quest in your journal but the game offers nothing in the way of an explanation for what to do with the metal. One of the Fragment of Starmetal pieces You can find a Fragment of Starmetal as early as Dawnshore, but unfortunately, you have to go through every single map in the game until you can use it. If you speak to certain vendors across the three maps of Dawnshore, Emerald Stair, and Shatterscarp, you can ask about the Starmetal. Specifically, asking blacksmiths about the metal will yield the most answers. Regardless of who you speak to about the Starmetal, though, you’ll get told the same thing: The Starmetal can only be worked by a smith in Solace Keep. Solace Keep is the main hub city in the final map of Avowed, called Galawain’s Tusks. You can only reach this map by progressing through Avowed’s main story. So, if you happen to find the Fragment of Starmetal in Dawnshore, you’ll have to go through the events of Dawnshore, Emerald Stair, and Shatterscarp before you’re finally able to do something with the item. How to get into Solace Keep and complete Forged of Star-Stuff Talking to Forgemaster Dela in Solace Keep When you finally reach Galawain’s Tusks, you need to travel all the way north to Solace Keep. Solace Keep is extremely well-guarded and doesn’t let outsiders in, however, so you have to speak to the guards at the drawbridge before entering the city. You are able to persuade the guard to let you in through a few methods. I was able to tell him I got the clear water running by completing an earlier side quest in Galawain’s Tusks, but you can also use persuasion checks and certain background dialogue to convince the guard to let you through. Once inside Solace Keep, head straight through the mess hall until you reach a pathway that leads downstairs. This goes into the forge, where Foregmaster Dela is standing in front of a statue. Talk to Dela and show him the Starmetal you have in your inventory. He’ll start to clamor over the metal and offer to make you a unique weapon from it. You have the choice between a Starmetal Sword or an Arquebus. The unique Moonstrike arquebus weapon The unique sword is called Meteor Blade while the unique arquebus is called Moonstrike. Both are fantastic weapons, but the Moonstrike is a little bit better and more useful, in my opinion. However, if you find more Fragments of Starmetal, you can bring them back to Dela and he will make you more weapons with them, allowing you to possess several unique Starmetal weapons. You can also bring more Starmetal to Dela so he can upgrade your existing weapon. Forged of Star-Stuff doesn’t end until you find the location of every Fragment of Starmetal in Avowed, but once you have one weapon, the quest is essentially completed. One of the Fragment of Starmetal pieces So far, we know of four different Fragment of Starmetal locations, but there are certainly more on the map that have yet to be discovered. Here are the four locations we know of: Galawain’s Tusks: Right beside the Ash Forest in a meteor pit where the Revenant bounty is located (northwest of Solace Keep) Dawnshore: At the Godless Altar directly south of the gate to Emerald Stair on the eastern side of the map Shatterscarp: In the Abandoned Mines directly across from Ruanga’s house (seen during the One Last Drink side quest) Emerald Stair: Right underneath the Damp Burrow text in the northern part of Emerald Stair on a rock (to the east of the Abandoned Farms and Rolling Crags) We’ll update this guide with more fragment locations if they are discovered. All you really need is one to complete the Forged of Star-Stuff quest in Avowed, but like we said, a few more overpowered weapons surely don’t hurt, right? Well, they don’t hurt you, anyway. 11. ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 to Premiere on HBO, With Wellness and Angst Included ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 to Premiere on HBO, With Wellness and Angst Included What’s a luxury vacation without digital detoxes, clashing personalities, sprawling hillside villas and lots of wine? On Monday night in Los Angeles, HBO celebrated the season premiere of “The White Lotus,” this time set at a lavish resort in Thailand famed for its wellness program — a place where guests are encouraged by one staff member to “focus on being present.” Directed and written by Mike White, the dark comedy, which returns Sunday at 9 p.m., follows hotel staff and affluent guests vacationing at high-end White Lotus resorts around the world. As in previous seasons, set in Hawaii and Sicily, the episode begins with an ambiguous death and rewinds to the start of the trip, allowing viewers to watch every tense relationship unfold. On the boat to the resort, viewers are introduced to a wealthy Southern family, a bickering couple, a famous actress on a girls’ trip with two childhood friends, and the burned out spa manager from the first season, Belinda, played by Natasha Rothwell, who’s in Thailand to learn wellness practices for the White Lotus in Maui. Built into a lush landscape where monkeys chatter from the trees, the hotel is set near a Buddhist temple, which serves as a backdrop for deeper questions, about spirituality and identity. On Monday, actresses including Ms. Rothwell, Parker Posey and Lisa, the Thai singer from the K-pop group Blackpink, were among the show’s stars who filled Hollywood’s Paramount Theatre to celebrate the show. Other guests included the actor and former governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the journalist Maria Shriver, whose son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, is part of the new cast. “As much as meditation and all of that is like, all woo-woo and buzz-wordy, I do think there’s something to finding yourself, being with yourself, and being OK with yourself,” Ms. Rothwell said. “I think this season explores that.” But she said her own attempts to disconnect have been challenging. “I went to a Buddhist, silent, tech-free meditation for five days, four nights and woo doggy,” she said. She added that she did manage to journal. “I think I just wrote the letters ‘AH,’ over and over and over again, like screaming into the abyss.” As the show’s cast walked the red carpet — which in actuality was a tasteful fake wood floor — they reflected on their personal spiritual journeys. “I’m a recovering Catholic,” said Carrie *****, the actress who plays Laurie, one of the women on the girls’ trip. “And I find the overarching philosophy of Buddhism really useful, and I love that Mike is packaging it in this show that a lot of people watch.” “It’s important to consider that there is a lot of suffering,” she added, “but there’s also an end of that suffering, and part of it is about letting go of your stories and your identity.” For some of the actors, the six months that they spent shooting at the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui felt like a truly luxurious trip. “You’re on a vacation in Thailand, every now and again, standing on marks and saying amazingly funny, silly things that Mike wrote,” said Arnas Fedaravicius, who plays the hotel’s sought-after Russian trainer. Inside the theater, beneath a large screen, dozens of lush green plants brought a bit more island ambience into the room. And instead of being served popcorn or candy, guests could snack on dried chili mango and Thai shrimp chips during the screening. Following the severe wildfires that burned more than 40,000 acres across the greater Los Angeles area, organizers considered canceling or moving the event. “But we heard loud and clear from our vendors to please move forward with the event,” Casey Bloys, the chairman and chief executive of HBO and Max Content, said before the first episode aired. “Their businesses needed the work, now is not the time to leave.” Mr. White also made a few remarks before the screening began. “You’re looking at somebody just across the finish line of, like, the hardest race that I’ve ever run,” he said, his voice seeming to break with emotion. “I’ve been around long enough to know that it’s as good as it gets,” he added. “So I’m just happy to be here,” he said. Inside the party, old and new cast members mixed and mingled with celebrities and loved ones. The comedian Eric André and the actor Chris Pratt chatted with friends as partygoers around the room sampled crispy wontons, Thai egg rolls, crab fried rice and more from Cholada Thai Malibu, Miya and Thai Vegan III, three restaurants that were affected by the Eaton and Palisades fires in January, as well as Anajak Thai. The actress Molly Shannon, who appeared in the first season of “The White Lotus,” snapped a portrait with her husband, ****** Chesnut, at a themed photo booth while the D.J. Bella Fiasco played songs by Britney Spears, Janet Jackson and Tinashe. At the bar, Paris Hilton joined the actor Lukas Gage, where she touched up her lipstick in a small heart-shaped hand mirror. And in true White Lotus fashion, there was a tinge of anxiety looming over the swinging party. “For six months, we had this baby, and this experience that’s so tender and dear to me, and now the world’s going to see it,” said Leslie Bibb, the actress who plays Kate, another woman on the girls’ trip. “It feels like big shoes to fill, so I hope that we do our job.” Source link #White #Lotus #Season #Premiere #HBO #Wellness #Angst #Included Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  12. Family Files Claims Against U.S. for Washington Plane ****** Family Files Claims Against U.S. for Washington Plane ****** The family of one of the 67 victims of a plane ****** last month near Washington filed two legal claims against the federal government on Tuesday, seeking compensation and signifying the beginning of what is expected to be a long and complex legal fight. The claims, which appear to be the first against the U.S. government over the collision, were filed by the family of Casey Crafton, an airline passenger who died in the ******, according to Robert A. Clifford, the lawyer representing them. Mr. Clifford said he had also asked several companies associated with the ****** to preserve evidence. “I don’t know who caused this ******, but I know the passengers sure didn’t, and the families are entitled to answers,” Mr. Clifford said in an interview. “This was preventable.” The ****** occurred on the night of Jan. 29, when a U.S. Army ****** Hawk helicopter collided with American Airlines Flight 5342 near Ronald Reagan National Airport, plunging both the plane and the helicopter into the icy Potomac River and killing everyone on both aircraft. It was the worst plane ****** in the United States in nearly a quarter-century. The cause has not yet been identified, but the National Transportation Safety Board, which is leading a federal investigation, said last week that it was looking into what appeared to be missed instructions sent from an air traffic controller to the helicopter pilots. Aviation experts say the investigation will probably identify multiple safety failures, as is often the case with plane crashes. The claims by Mr. Crafton’s wife, Rachel, and their three children on Tuesday were filed under the Federal Tort Claims Act, which enables individuals to take the federal government to court for property damage, personal injury or death. One was filed against the Federal Aviation Administration, which oversees air traffic control, and the other against the Army. Each seeks $250 million in compensation, a figure which Mr. Clifford described as a ceiling for the claim. The claims are filed with the F.A.A. and Army. If they reject the claims or fail to respond within six months, the family can file a lawsuit in federal court. He said he expected to defer a decision on suing any companies connected to the ****** until the N.T.S.B. issued a preliminary report. The agency has said that it plans to do so in the next weeks, but that it will not identify a probable cause of the ****** until it publishes a final report in a year or two. Mr. Clifford said he was weighing legal action on behalf of other victims’ families. Mr. Clifford, who is also representing families of the ****** of a 2019 Boeing 737 Max in Ethiopia, said he had asked several companies to preserve evidence related to last month’s episode. That includes American Airlines and its subsidiary, PSA Airlines, which was operating the plane, as well as Sikorsky Aircraft, the Lockheed Martin subsidiary that makes the ****** Hawk helicopter, and Collins Aerospace, which makes components for military and commercial aircraft. The airlines were ultimately responsible for the passengers’ safety, Mr. Clifford said, particularly considering mounting safety concerns at Reagan National, including congestion and previous close calls. “We think that the airlines knew of all these near misses, that they knew that there were these potential dangers, and under the law as the common carrier, American and PSA had the highest duty of care,” he said. On the night of the ******, the helicopter crew had asked an air traffic controller for permission to use visual separation with the plane, by which pilots maintain distance from a nearby aircraft by keeping it in their line of sight. The request was granted, but questions remain about whether the controller had left too much room for confusion in communications with the helicopter crew or whether that crew had been focused on the wrong plane altogether. At a news conference last week, the N.T.S.B. shared two instances in which it appeared that the helicopter crew might not have fully received messages from the air traffic controller. The episode also shed light on concerns that the air traffic control system has come under increasing strain in recent years, partly because of chronic understaffing. Mr. Crafton, 40, lived in Connecticut and studied aviation management at Bob Jones University, where he met his wife. On the night of the ******, he was returning from a business trip to Wichita, Kan. 13. Government accused of ‘moral cowardice’ in single-sex spaces row Government accused of ‘moral cowardice’ in single-sex spaces row PA Media The Tories called for clarity over public sector single-sex spaces, sparked by an employment tribunal involving NHS nurse Sandie Peggie The Scottish Conservatives have accused ministers of “moral cowardice” after their calls for a statement on public sector workers’ access to single-sex spaces were rejected at Holyrood. The Tories called for the Scottish government to provide clarity on the issue amid an ongoing employment tribunal. NHS Fife nurse Sandie Peggie is challenging the health board after she was suspended following a complaint about sharing a changing room with a transgender colleague. Parliamentary business minister Jamie Hepburn cited a lack of time, short notice, and the live legal proceedings as the reasons why the government would not provide a statement to parliament. Getty Images Scottish Conservative MSP Tess White urged ministers to make a statement on single-sex spaces Ms Peggie claims she was subjected to unlawful harassment by being made to share a changing room at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, with Dr Beth Upton – who is a transgender woman. Her claim is disputed by the health board and the doctor. Following hearings last week, the tribunal has been adjourned until July. The Scottish Conservatives have submitted requests for topical, urgent and first minister’s questions on the issue of single-sex spaces in the public sector. However, these have all been rejected by the presiding officer Alison Johnstone, who ended up in a heated exchange with Conservative MSP Douglas Ross over the matter. Only a limited number of questions are selected each week. The Tories attempted to amend the parliamentary schedule to include a statement from the government, but this was voted down by MSPs. Tabling the amendment, Conservative MSP Tess White said: “The situation that has arisen in NHS Fife speaks volumes about what is happening behind closed doors in Scotland’s public sector under this SNP government.” She added: “Women are watching today. The public have had enough of the recent abdication, obfuscation and moral cowardice from this government.” Getty Images Jamie Hepburn said the request for a statement came “beyond the 11th hour” Hepburn insisted the government was not “afraid of being held to account by the chamber” but said there was already a “busy” parliamentary schedule. He also said there was an “inherent danger” of breaking “sub judice” rules, which prevent MSPs from speaking about active legal proceedings without the permission of the presiding officer. “That would not be fair to any party taking part” in the employment tribunal, Hepburn said. Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser pointed out that the NHS Fife tribunal was not a criminal case, where a jury could be swayed by comments in parliament. He said a ministerial statement would pose no “risk of prejudice”. Hepburn called Fraser’s point “nonsense”, saying that sub judice rules also applied to civil cases. “It’s a live case,” he told MSPs. “And we need to be careful what we say.” He added that the amendment was tabled “beyond the 11th hour”. “It’s not good enough to come to ask ministers to make a statement the same day,” Hepburn said. Point of order After the amendment was voted down, Ross made a point of order to ask the presiding officer for guidance on how Conservative MSPs could ask a question about access to single-sex spaces in the public sector. He acknowledged it was “frowned upon” for MSPs to challenge the decisions of the presiding officer, but called for clarity over the issue. He said it was “not right” that all Scottish health boards might have to wait until the tribunal reconvenes in July “before they get the answers from government ministers in this parliament”. Johnstone replied: “In line with long-standing convention and in common with my predecessors I do not give reasons for selection decisions. “I consider each question lodged carefully and in line with published criteria. There are many important questions submitted each week.” In a heated exchange, she said she did not expect challenges to her “authority”, adding that members had opportunities throughout the week to raise the issue. After Ross repeatedly shouted out “when” from his seat, Johnstone rebuked him. “You are an experienced member of this parliament and I am sure you are wholly aware of the opportunities that are available to you,” she said. Ross then raised another point of order, asked the presiding officer what opportunities he would have to raise the issue as she had “refused” his party’s previous requests for questions in the chamber. She replied: “I have explained the situation quite clearly. I am not sitting here explaining matters that you understand wholly thoroughly.” Source link #Government #accused #moral #cowardice #singlesex #spaces #row Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  14. Helldivers 2 Fans Who Begged the Game To be Harder Are Not Happy With the Latest Bug Enemy Helldivers 2 Fans Who Begged the Game To be Harder Are Not Happy With the Latest Bug Enemy Over the past few weeks, many Helldivers 2 players have been complaining that the game has become too easy. It seems like Arrowhead Game Studios got tired of all the whining as it has unleashed a terrifying Terminid strain that Helldivers are struggling to defeat on the battlefield. The announcement has confirmed that these new enemies are very different from the regular Terminid units as they are much more intelligent and use different hunting techniques. Some new stronger, faster Terminid enemies have appeared on the battlefield (Image via Arrowhead Game Studios) This was expected as the community was entirely focused on Illuminate and Automatons. However, no one expected the new wave to be so deadly, but it’s clear that this was done because Arrowhead was criticized recently for introducing weapons that made the game too easy. A new Terminid strain has been added to Helldivers 2 Some Helldivers 2 players are struggling to take down this new Predator Strain (Image via Arrowhead Game Studios) An in-game message in Helldivers 2 recently revealed that a new Terminid strain called Predator Strain emerged on Fenrir III. Fortunately, the Helldivers were able to slow down the initial wave of these new enemies, however, they are continuing to spread like wildfire across the galaxy. The current Major Order has ordered the players to liberate Fori Prime, so Super Earth could survey it for E-710. This is the second planet where players have encountered the new strain and it seems like it’s getting quite difficult for the community to take them down. As compared to regular Terminid units, these evolved species are faster, stronger, and smarter, so players must be very careful while picking their loadouts. Like other Terminids, the Predator Strain is also weak against Shotguns like SG-8 Punisher or SG-451 Cookout, and for Stratagems, players should pick sentries like A/G-16 Gatling Sentry or the A/MG-43 Machine Gun Sentry. Apart from all this, make sure you equip this one weapon that is indirectly responsible for all these mutations within the Terminid faction. Helldivers 2 players complained that the game was too easy Players complained that the new GP-31 Ultimatum pistol made the game too easy (Image via Arrowhead Game Studios) The aforementioned weapon is the GP-31 Ultimatum pistol that was added as a part of the Servants of Freedom Premium Warbond. This powerful secondary weapon is capable of inflicting 4,500 damage, allowing it to destroy structures like Detector Towers, Jammers, Science Labs, and Fabricators in a single shot. Shortly after this weapon was added to the game, many players pointed out that it had made the game too easy. It seems like Arrowhead was just dropping a hint that the game is about to become a lot more difficult as all the enemy factions are slowly making progress, leaving many wondering if Super Earth is even capable of winning this battle. On top of this, more Illuminate enemies are yet to join the game, so players shouldn’t take things so lightly. 15. Nike and Kim Kardashian to Launch ‘NikeSkims’ Brand in the Spring Nike and Kim Kardashian to Launch ‘NikeSkims’ Brand in the Spring More than 40 years ago, Michael Jordan helped Nike become the name in basketball sneakers. Today it’s betting that Kim Kardashian can help it do the same for women’s activewear. On Tuesday, Nike is announcing the creation of NikeSkims, a new brand in partnership with Skims, the shapewear Goliath co-founded by Ms. Kardashian. NikeSkims marks the first time that Nike has joined with an existing, outside company to introduce a new brand. “It’s this great clash of performance product — athlete tested, athlete inspired — with Skims’s incredible attention to the female form of the body and inclusivity,” said Heidi O’Neill, the president of consumer, product and brand at Nike. The brand, she said, will “serve women so they can feel strong and sexy.” The two companies have been working on NikeSkims since October 2023. Skims, which has conquered the shapewear market with its curve-accentuating leggings, bodysuits and tops, first reached out to Nike about working together. The initial crop of products will hit Skims and Nike websites and select stores in the United States in spring 2025. NikeSkims will roll out globally next year. If Skims’s shapewear is designed for everyday wear, NikeSkims will be targeted toward hourlong HIIT classes and sweaty treadmill sessions. It will utilize existing training-tested textiles, like Dri-Fit, as well as “innovations that are built more uniquely for Skims,” according to Ms. O’Neill. She did not share specifics on pricing, but a pair of Nike’s high-waist Dri-Fit leggings sells for $60, just a smidgen more than Skims’s $56 cotton leggings. NikeSkims will focus on women’s apparel, with plans to add footwear and accessories in the future. Jens Grede, the chief executive and co-founder of Skims, said it was not out of the question for it to expand into men’s wear. NikeSkims, similar to Air Jordan, will have its own dedicated staff. NikeSkims arrives at a moment of soaring interest in women’s sports, like basketball. Skims, coincidentally, is already the official underwear partner of the W.N.B.A., as well as the N.B.A. and U.S.A. Basketball. Women’s sports, Ms. O’Neill said, aren’t a trend but “a transformation.” The company, she noted, saw double-digit growth in its women’s sports business over the last two years. In working with Skims, Nike also gets instant access to one of the most visible women on planet. Ms. Kardashian has more than 358 million Instagram followers and gamely stars in many of Skims’s promotional clips. In a video uploaded to Skims’s Instagram last week, Ms. Kardashian, dressed in a tonal tan bodysuit, assumed the role of Fairy Butt Mother to a hapless gymgoer. Nike and Skims were mum on how their new partnership would be marketed, but Ms. O’Neill praised Ms. Kardashian as an “incredible business leader” in a way that reminded her of Mr. Jordan. Mr. Grede went further in talking up his co-founder: “It’s hard not to think of her as the Michael Jordan of influencers,” he said. For Skims, the Nike pairing is another avenue of expansion for a company that in its six years has risen from a striver in the shapewear industry to its key player. In 2023, Skims was valued at $4 billion and today has six stores across the United States. “Skims deserves to be a public company one day,” Mr. Grede said, acknowledging investor speculation, but for now the company is “very much enjoying what we’re doing.” In Nike, Skims found a partner offering not only field-researched materials and production capabilities, but an expansive distribution network. The aim is for NikeSkims products to be sold through Nike’s retail partners in the near future. “We didn’t want to go into this very large category and do something small,” Mr. Grede said. Skims, he said, wanted to do something grand and unexpected, and “Nike gave us the opportunity to do it.” Source link #Nike #Kim #Kardashian #Launch #NikeSkims #Brand #Spring Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  16. Bannon Calls Musk a ‘Parasitic ******** Immigrant’ Bannon Calls Musk a ‘Parasitic ******** Immigrant’ Stephen K. Bannon, President Trump’s former White House chief strategist, has renewed his feud with Elon Musk, the richest man in the world and a top Trump adviser, calling him a “parasitic ******** immigrant” in an interview published online on Tuesday. Mr. Bannon made the comments in an interview with UnHerd, a British news site, that took place last week. “Musk is a parasitic ******** immigrant. He wants to impose his freak experiments and play-act as God without any respect for the country’s history, values or traditions.” Mr. Bannon told the interviewer. He appeared to be referring to news reports that Mr. Musk, who was born in South Africa and who has become an aggressive voice against undocumented immigrants, overstayed his visa as he built a company in the United States. Mr. Musk has denied the accusation. Mr. Bannon has repeatedly criticized Mr. Musk, calling him a “truly evil person” before the inauguration last month and vowing to prevent him from having full access to the White House. But Mr. Musk, who initially irritated Mr. Trump with his omnipresence at Mr. Trump’s private club, Mar-a-Lago, during the presidential transition, has made himself invaluable to Mr. Trump as an internal enforcer of executive orders and efforts to aggressively cut spending and reduce the size of the federal work force. That has made Mr. Musk a significant focus of anger from Democratic elected officials, alongside the president who empowered him. “It’s pretty evident the president’s using him as an armor-piercing shell that’s delivering blunt force trauma against the administrative state,” Mr. Bannon said in the interview. But he also described Mr. Musk’s work as “performative” and complained that Mr. Musk had not focused on the Pentagon, with which Mr. Musk’s private companies have many contracts. (Mr. Trump has suggested Mr. Musk will at some point look at Pentagon spending.) Despite his dramatic and fractious departure from the White House in 2017, Mr. Bannon became close with Mr. Trump again in the final year of Mr. Trump’s first term. Mr. Bannon is still a close ally and, more significantly, a popular figure within the Trump movement: His show, War Room, is watched closely by a number of Trump allies, as well as the president himself. While Mr. Bannon has endorsed some of the efforts that Mr. Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency group is taking, he has condemned Mr. Musk as not pure to the movement that propelled Mr. Trump back into office. Mr. Musk has generally avoided responding to the jabs Mr. Bannon’s has made over the last few months. Two weeks ago, he posted on X, his social media website, an insult he’s used about a number of people in private discussions since joining Mr. Trump’s team. “Bannon is a great talker, but not a great doer,” Mr. Musk wrote. “What did he get done this week? Nothing.” Neither a White House representative nor Mr. Bannon immediately responded to a message about the interview. 20. Although Rebel Studios is a significantly smaller company than CD Projekt Red, their ambitions are sky high on creating a high-quality game. In a recent interview between GamesRader and the creative director of The Blood of Dawnwalker, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, when asked about whether the new studio would put an AA or an AAA label for the game, he replied that they definitely want their game to be AAA quality. In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3, definitely, our games are not as huge in terms of amount of content and gameplay hours – we are a smaller studio, this is our first project, so we definitely are building something smaller. But we want to build something as robust in terms of quality, maybe a bit shorter. He mentioned that although maintaining the quality of an AAA game will decrease the gameplay time, the brothers are willing to invest more focus on quality rather than quantity. In the same interview, he also revealed that Rebel Wolves are aiming for a 30-40-hour campaign for The Blood of Dawnwalker. The size of the studio does not matter Although Rebel Wolves is a smaller studio, the game looks amazing | Image Credits: Bandai Namco Entertainment Regardless of the studio size, The Blood of Dawnwalker is a highly ambitious dark fantasy RPG. In their trailer, the gameplay looks amazing, showcasing the protagonist, Coen is seen sliding down the sides of buildings with a sword and using his vampiric powers. Rebel Studios’ bold initiative to take creative freedom into their own hands is an extraordinary feat and something that only a small amount of developers can achieve. The Blood of Dawnwalker will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC and although there is no confirmed launch date for the title, the recent release of their trailer has brought speculations that suggest the game will come out no sooner than in 2026. The Blood of Dawnwalker will introduce a new series to the players, a series filled with vampires, monsters, and a jam-packed story. 23. AMD’s game-changing Strix Halo APU, formerly Ryzen AI Max, poses for new die shots AMD’s game-changing Strix Halo APU, formerly Ryzen AI Max, poses for new die shots AMD’s Strix Halo reviews are no longer guarded by an embargo. So we’re seeing a wave of new die shots that underline the impressive engineering that went into the design of these chips. Thanks to Kurnal, Asus’ Tony Yu (at Bilibili), and Decap at X (formerly Twitter), we’re getting our first look at the internals of Strix Halo, formally known as Ryzen AI Max. Let’s get one thing straight: Strix Halo isn’t your average run-of-the-mill APU. It wields 16 cores and 32 threads based on the latest Zen 5 architecture, alongside a massive 40 CU (Compute Unit) iGPU (integrated GPU). The package itself is composed of two Zen 5 CCDs, which are a tad different from the ones you see on Granite Ridge (Ryzen 9000 CPUs). Surrounding the chip are up to eight memory ICs, enabling support for 128GB of unified memory. Thanks to high-res images from Tony Yu, we see that AMD has trimmed the D2D (Die to Die) interfaces between the CCD and I/O die by roughly 2mm. Although the CCDs have been tweaked slightly at 67.07mm2, they still support 3D V-Cache, evidenced by the TSV connections in the die shots. The rest is similar to what you’d typically find on a desktop Zen 5 processor. Each of the eight cores carries 8MB of dedicated L2 cache, with a shared 32MB L3 pool in between. Beneath the two CCDs lies a large I/O die that hosts the uncore part of the chip. The bulk of the 307.58mm2 die size is occupied by the 40 Compute Unit integrated GPU (20 WGPs) developed using RDNA 3.5. Slapping on more cores is only beneficial if they can be fed with data. We’ve seen firsthand how the performance of Strix Point (with 16 CUs) was hampered due to memory bottlenecks. AMD has taken a two-pronged solution to counteract this issue, with fast LPDDR5X memory across a wide 256-bit interface (eight 32-bit controllers) to the sides of the chip, and 32MB of MALL (Memory Access at Last Level) or LLC (Last Level Cache) split evenly across both sides of the iGPU. Image 1 of 5 (Image credit: Tony Yu) To the left of the iGPU lies the XDNA 2 NPU (Neural Processing Unit), enabling 50 TOPS of AI performance, claimed to outclass even the RTX 4090. Some locations have been left unmarked. Either way, the bottom of the I/O die features a single PCIe 4.0 x16 interface, alongside USB 4 (40 Gbps), USB 3.2 Gen 2, and USB 2.0 controllers, followed by a Display Engine and two Media Engines with support for H.264, H.265, and AV1 codecs. Based on the provided statistics, the full chip equals roughly 441.72mm2 or allegedly 475mm2. That’s including what appears to be structural silicon. The first laptops powered by Strix Halo should hit shelves later this month, with Asus’ ROG Flow Z13 tipped for a February 25 launch. While OEMs have initially been hesitant to jump on board with these chips, adoption is likely to improve, despite a slow initial uptake. 24. Astronomers uncover the topsy-turvy atmosphere of a distant planet Astronomers uncover the topsy-turvy atmosphere of a distant planet The three layers of the atmosphere of the gas giant Tylos ESO/M. Kornmesser The atmosphere of a distant world has been mapped in detail for the first time, revealing a strange, topsy-turvy weather system, with the fastest winds ever seen inexplicably blowing around the planet’s stratosphere. Astronomers have studied WASP-121b, also known as Tylos, since 2015. The planet, which is 900 light years away, is a vast ball of gas double the size of Jupiter, and it orbits its star extremely closely, completing a full orbit in just 30 Earth hours. This close orbit heats the planet’s atmosphere to temperatures of 2500°C, hot enough to boil iron. Now, Julia Seidel at the European Southern Observatory in Chile and her colleagues have looked inside Tylos’s scorchingly hot atmosphere using the observatory’s Very Large Telescope, and they found it has at least three distinct layers of gas moving in different directions around the planet – a structure unlike anything astronomers have ever seen. “It’s absolutely crazy, science fiction-y patterns and behaviours,” says Seidel. The planetary atmospheres in our solar system share a broadly similar structure to one another, where a jet stream of powerful winds blowing in the lower portion of the atmosphere is driven by internal temperature differences, while winds in the upper layers are more affected by temperature differences created by the sun’s heat, which warms the daylight side of the planet but not the other. Yet in Tylos’s atmosphere, it is the winds in the lower layer that are driven by heat from the planet’s star, travelling away from the warm side, while the jet stream appears to be mostly in the middle layer of the atmosphere, travelling around Tylos’s equator in the direction of the planet’s rotation. An upper layer of hydrogen also shows jetstream-like features, flowing around the planet but also drifting outwards into space. This is difficult to explain using our current models, says Seidel. “What we see now is actually exactly the inverse of what comes out of theory.” What’s more, the jet stream on Tylos is the most powerful ever seen, blasting at around 70,000 kilometres per hour across half the planet – double the speed of the previous record holder. Exactly what is driving this speed is unclear, but the researchers think that it may be due to the planet’s strong magnetic field or because of ultraviolet radiation from its star. “This could possibly change the flow patterns, but this is all highly speculative,” says Seidel. 25. Bull shark bites off both hands of woman on beach ‘after she tried to take its picture’ Bull shark bites off both hands of woman on beach ‘after she tried to take its picture’ The family of a woman who lost both her hands after being bitten by a shark on holiday has shared how the horrifying attack unfolded. The 55-year-old ********* woman was on a trip to the Turks and Caicos Islands with her husband when they “lived what can only be described as a nightmare,” brother-in-law Al Chavarie has said. Launching a fundraiser for the couple, Mr Chevarie described how the attack unfolded and the impact it has had on the couple. “After leaving the beach to join her husband, in only hip deep clear water, a seven-foot bull shark came at my sister-in-law and bumped into her legs,” he said. “The shark then circled around and bit her thigh. Bull sharks are one of the less common species known to swim in waters near the Turks and Caicos Islands (AFP via Getty Images) “Not satisfied, the shark came back again and when she put both hands in front of her to protect herself, the shark cut off both of her hands, one at mid forearm and the other at the wrist.” Mr Chevarie then describes how his brother, Ralph, “managed to wrestle away the shark,” keeping between his wife and the creature as she struggled out of the water and collapsed on the beach. A statement from the Turks and Caicos Islands Environment Department later said that their investigation had determined that “the tourist had attempted to engage with the animal from the shallows in an attempt to take photographs.” A picture from the scene shows several beach-goers attending to the woman as she is given first aid before being transported to the local hospital. She was later taken by air ambulance back to Canada to undergo surgery, her brother-in-law explains. Asking for support via GoFundMe, Mr Chevarie says: “This is something that has completely altered their life in the blink of an eye.” Donations have already exceeded $23,000 CAD. Shark attacks in the Turks and Caicos are rare, with only four people affected by incidents between 2021 and 2025, and all surviving. The most common species in the archipelago’s waters is the grey reef shark, which is generally only aggressive if provoked. However, more aggressive species like the bull shark can also less commonly be found in the waters, which is the species Mr Chevarie said attacked his sister-in-law.
