  3. Despite its big success, Marvel Rivals’ director and others have been laid off Despite its big success, Marvel Rivals’ director and others have been laid off A little over two months after its hugely successful launch, the US-based developers behind Marvel Rivals, including its game director, have reportedly been hit with layoffs. Posting on his LinkedIn profile on Tuesday, NetEase’s California-based game director Thaddeus Sasser claimed that an unspecified number of Marvel Rivals‘ American developers had been let go, including himself. “This is such a weird industry,” he wrote. “My stellar, talented team just helped deliver an incredibly successful new franchise in Marvel Rivals for NetEase Games …and were just laid off!” Sasser confirmed that level designer Gary McGee had been let go as part of the layoffs, while another designer, Jack Burrows, also confirmed that NetEase had let them go. “Welp, just got laid off from my job working on Marvel Rivals with NetEase,” they wrote. “Was an enormous pleasure to work with my American coworkers who join me in this sad culling. Just couldn’t dodge that big boot I guess, no matter how big the success of the gig.” Although Marvel Rivals does not have staff credits, it’s understood that the game was developed by teams in China and Seattle, USA. According to Sasser’s LinkedIn, the Seattle team specialized in game and level design. Marvel Rivals’ most senior developer appears to be creative director Guangyun ‘Guangguang’ Chen, who often appears in developer diaries published by NetEase. The surprise layoffs follow what appears to have been a hugely successful launch for the hero shooter. Since its debut in December, Marvel Rivals has enjoyed consistently high player numbers on Steam. Circana analyst Mat Piscatella noted on Tuesday that Rivals is currently among the top 5 games in the US weekly active users across PS5, XBS, and Steam, according to its own player engagement tracker. “It has been a massive hit, and one of the few games that has been able to break through the live service wall,” he wrote. “I dunno, folks. I just don’t know.” When Marvel Rivals released its first season last month, the game saw 644,269 players play the game concurrently, launching it to number 14 in Steam‘s all-time highest concurrent player counts. This is higher than other popular titles like Apex Legends, Path of Exile 2, Helldivers 2, and GTA 5. Commenting on the news, a Bungie employee claimed they’d heard the layoffs were part of a broad decision by NetEase to pull out of North America. Last month, it was confirmed NetEase had split from Vancouver-based Worlds Untold, the studio it founded with Mass Effect writer Mac Walters in 2023, as well as Seattle-based Jar of Sparks, the studio founded in 2022 by Xbox veteran Jerry Hook. Cinematic director John Ebenger wrote: “The only insight I can possibly add is that I’d heard NetEase is pulling ALL investments out of NA. Started last year. Are these layoffs all the NA design team? If so then it appears no, it doesn’t matter how successful your game is, corporate policy created by geopolitics and trade relationships do.” NetEase’s remaining North American studios include California-based BulletFarm, which wad founded last year with Call of Duty: ****** Ops designer David Vonderhaar. Before that, NetEase founded Anchor Point with Control’s lead designer, with studios in Spain and Seattle. NetEase also has an Austin, Texas-based studio, T-Minus Zero, which is creating a sci-fi MMO game, and Bad Brain Game Studios, the company co-founded in Canada by Ubisoft veterans. Outside of North America, NetEase co-founded the new studios from Like A Dragon designer Toshihiro Nagoshi, and Resident Evil producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, and invested in Suda 51’s Grasshopper Manufacture. VGC has asked NetEase for comment on this story. Source link #big #success #Marvel #Rivals #director #laid Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  4. British Army ‘absolutely ready’ if ordered to deploy to Ukraine British Army ‘absolutely ready’ if ordered to deploy to Ukraine Jonathan Beale Defence correspondent Reporting fromGalați, RomaniaBBC *** troops are taking part in exercise Steadfast Dart in Romania, Nato’s largest exercise this year The British Army has said it is ready to deploy to Ukraine if requested by the government. This week, 2,500 *** troops from the Army’s high readiness force, the First Division, have been taking part in a large Nato exercise in Romania – on a training area just 16 miles (25km) from the border with Ukraine. Although mobile phones have been banned on the exercise, most soldiers are aware that there are now initial discussions to send troops to Ukraine itself. Brigadier Andy Watson, who is commanding the British contribution to the Nato exercise, says his brigade “is absolutely ready” should they receive orders to deploy to Ukraine. Earlier this week Keir Starmer said that he was ready and willing to send British troops to Ukraine to help guarantee its security, should there be a ceasefire. But so far he too is unclear as to what they might be asked to do. In terms of numbers of troops that might be needed, Brigadier Watson said “clearly what the force package would look like would be dependent on what the prime minister and the Ministry of Defence would like”. But he said “it’s absolutely not” something the *** could do on its own. “I think the prime minister has been very clear that the *** would contribute to efforts, but absolutely not doing it on our own,” says Brigadier Watson. Exercise Steadfast Dart is Nato’s largest exercise this year and meant to demonstrate how quickly allies can come to the defence of an ally under attack. But while it’s meant to demonstrate Nato’s readiness, it also highlights its limitations too. The *** has shown it can move large numbers of troops and equipment, including more than 700 military vehicles, 1,400 miles (2,253 km) across Europe at relatively short notice as part of Nato’s new Allied Reaction Force. And that it can operate alongside allies. More than 10,000 military personnel are taking part in the exercise from eight European nations. But that is just 10% of the number that most military experts believe might be required for any peacekeeping operation inside Ukraine which might require a force of more than 100,000. Brigadier Andy Watson is commanding the British contribution to the Nato exercise Some of the nations taking part, like Spain and Italy, have not even met Nato’s own spending target for defence of 2% of GDP, set more than a decade ago. Many, including the ***, have experienced recent cuts in the size of their armed forces. When British forces were sent to Helmand in 2009, the British Army had more than 100,000 regular troops. Now it is at its smallest since the Napoleonic wars, at just over 70,000. Even before the cuts, the British Army was stretched sending a force of 9,000 troops. It required additional defence spending for urgent operational equipment, as well as a rolling deployment of fresh troops every six months. A regular Army of around 73,000 would now struggle to do something on a similar scale. More than 10,000 troops are taking part in the exercise from eight European nations Steadfast Dart is meant to show that Nato’s European allies can respond to a crisis. Unusually, for a large Nato military exercise, US forces are not directly involved. But America remains Nato’s most powerful and largest military member and its absence from any plan to guarantee Ukraine’s security would leave a gaping hole. That’s why Keir Starmer and his Defence Secretary John Healey are calling for the US to be involved, despite the Trump administration’s insistence that there will be no US boots on the ground. Healey said on Tuesday that European nations would have to play a leading role but he added that “it is only the US that can provide the deterrence to Putin that will prevent him attacking again”. Nato’s intervention in Libya in 2011 illustrated how European nations struggled without their biggest partner. The US was supposed to take a back seat in the bombing campaign but was still heavily relied on for logistics – air-to-air refuelling – and providing intelligence and surveillance. The training area in Romania is just 16 miles (25km) from the border with Ukraine Back at Exercise Steadfast Dart, Colonel Gordon Muir, who commands 4 Scots troops and previously fought alongside the US in Afghanistan, said “there’s a famous Highland saying – that friends are good on the day of battle”. He said there are few circumstances when you want to go it alone. Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine should have been the wake-up call that European nations needed. Most of its members are now spending 2% of their GDP on defence. But Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte now says that is not enough and is pushing for more than 3%. The Trump administration says it should be more like 5% of GDP. The *** government has still not set a date for its new spending target of 2.5%. Europe has also been slow to ramp up defence production. But Exercise Steadfast Dart shows that some lessons are being learned from the war in Ukraine. There is an emphasis on trench and urban warfare as well as combatting drones. Troops clearing trench lines We watch British and Romanian troops repeat drills of clearing a recently excavated zigzag of snow-covered trench lines. Many of the British troops taking part in this training have also recently been helping train their Ukrainian counterparts in the ***. Corporal Richard Gillin, of 4 Scots, told me, “we’re definitely ready for Ukraine”. Though they do not know whether such a deployment would happen – or what role they might be asked to perform – any operation in Ukraine would give the British Army a new sense of purpose and help with its recruitment crisis. Lance Corporal Lewis Antwis, of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, said “people have joined the Army for a purpose…so yeah, I think the boys would be ready”. 5. Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered Deluxe Physical Edition Looks Awesome Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered Deluxe Physical Edition Looks Awesome The cult-favorite Legacy of Kain series finally returned after a long slumber with Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered last year. The collection launched digitally on console and PC back in December 2024, but soon fans will be able to add it to their shelves with the upcoming Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered PS5 and Nintendo Switch physical editions launching June 13. Preorders for the standard and Deluxe Editions are available now at Amazon. $50 for Deluxe / $30 for Standard | Releases June 13 Both physical editions of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered are surprisingly affordable. The standard edition is just $35, while the Deluxe Edition is just $50 and packed with extra collectibles. Here’s everything included in the Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered Deluxe Edition: Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered base game (PS5 or Switch) Exclusive Steelbook Case The Art of Nosgoth Art Book Official Soundtrack CD Collector’s Box Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered – Deluxe Edition That’s a solid package for just $50, but if you only want the game and don’t need all those extras, you can grab the standard PS5 and Nintendo Switch editions for just $30. Preorders for all versions are live at Amazon, although the PS5 standard edition is currently unavailable. It should be available again soon, so keep checking the links. All other versions are in stock. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered Physical Edition Preorders Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered includes enhanced versions of Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2, which originally launched on the PS1 and PS2 respectively. These games follow Raziel, a vampire-turned-wraith on a quest for revenge against his maker, the eponymous Kain, across the fantasy realm of Nosgoth. Both games feature all-new graphics–with the option to swap back to the original PS1 and PS2 graphics on the fly–gameplay tweaks, and in-game galleries full of art and behind-the-scenes materials. While the physical editions are only available for PS5 and Nintendo Switch, you can also grab the digital version on all consoles and PC. PC players can even save if they grab the game at GOG, where it’s currently discounted to $22.49 (was $30). Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered is part of a recent revitalization for the broader Legacy of Kain series that includes a new Soul Reaver prequel graphic novel and an upcoming tabletop RPG and lore encyclopedia. Hopefully, that means we’ll see a new single-player entry in the series soon. Either way now is a great time to be a Legacy of Kain fan. Even better, it’s also a great time to get into the series if you’re new to the games, too, as most of which have been re-released on modern platforms. The Soul Reaver duology only represents one chunk of the overarching Legacy of Kain timeline. The franchise started with Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen, which follows Kain’s transformation into a vampire, and its events serve as the basis for the rest of the series and are even revisited–and reframed–by Soul Reaver’s time-hopping plot. It was followed up with Blood Omen 2, and while it’s largely disconnected from the events of Soul Reaver, it furthers Kain’s characterization and Nosgoth’s history. Both games are available on the PlayStation Store and on PC via GOG and Steam. The storyline capped off with Legacy of Kain: Defiance, which directly follows the events of Soul Reaver 1 and 2, and features both Raziel and Kain as playable characters. Fair warning that it ends on a cliffhanger–which is part of why fans have been pining for a new game in the series–but it at least offers some closure on the events of the Soul Reaver arc and is worth grabbing after completing the remastered collection. Legacy of Kain: Defiance is only available on PC (unless you get your hands on a used PS2 copy), but it’s currently discounted to less than $1 at GOG (normally $7). Russians joke a ‘dead man wouldn’t have blood pressure’ in new Oscar Jenkins video Russians joke a ‘dead man wouldn’t have blood pressure’ in new Oscar Jenkins video A new video has surfaced showing Oscar Jenkins having his blood pressure taken while his Russian examiners joke “a dead man wouldn’t have pressure”. The *********** prisoner of war (POW) appears shirtless in the video, sitting in front of a Russian flag while two Russian men provide a running commentary. Camera IconA new video has surfaced showing Oscar Jenkins having his blood pressure taken while his Russian examiners joke ‘a dead man wouldn’t have pressure’. NewsWire / Handout Credit: NewsWire “One hundred and twenty-eight – his blood pressure is slightly risen,” one of the men says. “We’ll do another one to double check.” “A dead man wouldn’t have pressure, it’s logical, yes?” the other quips. The men also have trouble measuring Mr Jenkins’ pulse using an oximeter because his hands are too cold. They eventually abandon it and return to the original blood pressure monitor. “One hundred and twenty-six over 79 – normal pressure, it’s slightly high, heartbeat is 86,” one says. “But on this one, the finger is too cold. “It doesn’t show through but on this one it showed.” Camera IconMr Jenkins’ examiners say his blood pressure is ‘normal’. NewsWire / Handout Credit: NewsWire The video was sneakily uploaded to X on the same day another video was uploaded to YouTube showing Mr Jenkins alive. Both were uploaded by accounts with the same name. NewsWire has not been able to independently verify where or when either video was taken. Reverse image searches have shown the videos were first uploaded on February 8, but in the other video, which shows Mr Jenkins being questioned in English, a man off-screen says the video was taken on January 17. A new video has surfaced purportedly showing *********** POW Oscar Jenkins alive in Russian custody two months after his capture in eastern Ukraine. The other video shows Mr Jenkins clean-faced, clad in green fatigues and donning a beanie. It is a stark contrast to the dirt-caked face that made headlines after news broke of his capture. “My name is Oscar Jenkins, I am ***********,” Mr Jenkins says in the video. His questioner identifies Mr Jenkins as a POW from Ukraine’s 66th Mechanised Brigade. NewsWire understands he was fighting as part of the brigade’s 402nd Rifle Battalion when he was captured near Makiivka, a tiny village on the Zherebets River in Luhansk Oblast. “Tell us about your health condition, about your mood. Are you OK?” the man asks Mr Jenkins. “I would like more freedom,” Mr Jenkins replies. “I feel a bit weak, I’ve lost a lot of weight, I have a broken arm still, I think, and my hand is not good.” “But you are alive,” the Russian interjects. “So the information about your death is not right?” “Correct,” Mr Jenkins says. 7. Venomous snake found in bananas at New Hampshire grocery store Venomous snake found in bananas at New Hampshire grocery store A bunch of bananas at a New Hampshire grocery store was hiding a slithering stowaway last week, a scaly story that might get adapted for the big screen as “Snakes on a Plantain.” Employees at a Market Basket in Manchester got an unexpected surprise on Saturday when they discovered a hissing hitchhiker nestled among their shipment of bananas, according to a news release from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division. Lt. Adam Cheney of NH Fish and Game told NBC News that his team is used to dealing with domestic reptiles, but this little one was an unexpected encounter. “We’re lucky enough that one of the workers at Market Basket was very familiar with reptiles,” Cheney said. The unwelcome traveler was an approximately 1.5-foot-long snake, a mildly venomous species native to Ecuador, according to NH Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division. Cheney describes the uncommon encounter as similar to “opening a Christmas present.” “I’ve never seen an Ornate cat-eyed snake before in 25 years,” Cheney said. “Everybody’s kind of interested if you’re into reptiles because you’ve never seen one, you don’t get the opportunity to unless you go down to South America.” NH Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division said that the snake was unharmed and has since been rehomed with their partners at Rainforest Reptile Shows Inc., an educational organization specializing in exotic animal care. Mack Ralbovsky, vice president of Rainforest Reptile Shows Inc., updated NBC News on what’s next for their latest addition. “This new hitchhiker friend will remain with Rainforest Reptile Shows and RRS Oasis for the remainder of its life,” Ralbovsky said. “However, it is a venomous species, so we take extreme precautions when bringing them out for these outreach events.” Ralbovsky also assures consumers that they have nothing to worry about. “Snakes in shipments are relatively uncommon and it’s not something that consumers need to be concerned about,” Ralbovsky explained. “When any shipments come from tropical places, there is a chance that hitchhikers could be on board. However, it is typically small lizards, like anoles, frogs or invertebrates.” Rainforest Reptile Inc. plans to post a video on their Facebook and YouTube accounts to update folks on how their newest addition is doing, and folks will have the opportunity to vote on its name. The company on Facebook thanked officials “for ensuring a smooth and quick transition for our newest animal resident!” “The Cat-eyed Snake that arrived today is a specialized species from Panama, Ecuador, and Colombia that primarily feeds on amphibians and lizards,” it said. “As a nocturnal species, its care requires extra expertise and attention.” This article was originally published on NBCNews.com Source link #Venomous #snake #bananas #Hampshire #grocery #store Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

  9. Trump scores win in suit challenging Elon Musk’s cost-cutting powers Trump scores win in suit challenging Elon Musk’s cost-cutting powers U.S. President Donald Trump looks on as he stands in the Oval Office of the White House, on the day Robert F. Kennedy Jr is sworn in as secretary of Health and Human Services, in Washington, D.C., U.S., February 13, 2025. Nathan Howard | Reuters Donald Trump’s administration scored a victory on Tuesday when a judge ruled in its favor in a challenge by Democratic attorneys general from a group of states to the authority of the Republican president’s chief government cost-cutter Elon Musk. Washington-based U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan denied their request for an order barring billionaire Tesla CEO Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, from accessing computer systems at federal agencies or directing firings of government workers while the litigation plays out. Chutkan said the states “legitimately call into question what appears to be the unchecked authority of an unelected individual and an entity that was not created by Congress and over which it has no oversight.” But the judge said they had not shown why they were entitled to a temporary restraining order. The attorneys general argued that their ability to carry out educational and other programs were at risk. They accused Musk’s team of unlawfully accessing data at federal agencies and directing a purge of the 2.3 million-strong federal workforce. The lawsuit was filed by more than a dozen states and announced by state attorneys general from New Mexico, Michigan and Arizona. Lawyers for the attorneys general did not immediately respond to requests for comment, nor did the White House. DOGE was formed by Trump. It has swept through federal agencies, slashing thousands of jobs and dismantling various programs, since Trump returned to office last month and put Musk in charge of rooting out what they see as wasteful spending as part of the president’s dramatic overhaul of government. The state attorneys general have argued that Musk wields the kind of power that can be exercised only by an officer of the government who has been nominated by the president and confirmed by the U.S. Senate under language in the U.S. Constitution called the Appointments Clause. The states also have said DOGE itself has not been authorized by Congress. The lawsuit seeks to bar DOGE from accessing information systems at the departments of labor, education, health and human services, energy, transportation and commerce, and at the Office of Personnel Management. They also asked Chutkan, who was appointed by Democratic former President Barack Obama, to prevent Musk and his DOGE team members from firing federal employees or putting them on leave. An attorney for the administration told Chutkan on February 14 that he had not been able to confirm mass government layoffs took place. Around 20 lawsuits have been filed in various federal courts challenging Musk’s authority, which have led to mixed results. U.S. District Judge Jeannette Vargas in New York extended a temporary block on DOGE on Friday that prevented Musk’s team from accessing Treasury systems responsible for trillions of dollars of payments. But also on Friday, U.S. District Judge John Bates in Washington declined a request by unions and nonprofits to temporarily block Musk’s team from accessing records at the departments of Labor, and Health and Human Services, as well as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Most of the judges handling DOGE cases have not yet issued rulings. The truth is they are not related at all. The word berry comes from the Latin for grape – but we don’t think of grapes as berries – and was just used to describe small fruits. Meanwhile, to add to the confusion what some people think is a HUCKLEberry, other people think of as a BLUEberry. Like mushrooms, berries are an area you have to be careful if foraging in the wild. Many varieties, including ELDER, will give you a very upset stomach, while some, including Virginia Creeper Berries, can be fatal to humans. 13. Trump signs executive order aimed at reducing IVF costs Trump signs executive order aimed at reducing IVF costs Washington — President Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order that directs his administration to find ways to reduce the high costs of in vitro fertilization, or IVF, for Americans struggling with fertility. At an event at Mar-a-Lago, White House staff secretary Will Scharf told reporters that the order directs the Domestic Policy Council “to make IVF and other fertility treatments more affordable for more Americans.” According to a White House fact sheet, the order prioritizes “addressing any current policies, including those that require legislation, that exacerbate the cost of IVF treatments.” “These are treatments that have become unaffordable for many Americans or been unaffordable for many Americans,” Scharf said. Health insurance companies are not currently required to cover IVF treatments, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Mr. Trump vowed during the 2024 campaign that the treatments would either be covered by the government or insurance companies if he was reelected. “Your government will pay for or your insurance company will be mandated to pay for all costs associated with IVF treatment,” Mr. Trump said in August 2024. Weeks after Mr. Trump made the pledge, Senate Republicans blocked legislation that would have protected access to IVF and made the fertility treatments more affordable. Republicans said the legislation was too broad and only two GOP senators — Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — supported it. “Republicans support IVF, full stop,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota, who was then the ********* whip, said at the time, calling the vote “an attempt by Democrats to try and create a political issue where there isn’t one.” The issue of access to fertility treatments became a political flashpoint last February after the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos were considered children under state law. The ruling caused an uproar and cleared the way for potential wrongful death claims if an embryo did not survive the process, causing several providers to pause IVF treatments. After the ruling, Mr. Trump called on the Alabama legislature to “quickly find an immediate solution to preserve the availability of IVF” in the state. Yesterday I tried four start words. I found it quick but risky, so today I used three start words, going for ****** as a vowel-free attempt. It sort of worked – I certainly felt like I solved the puzzle quicker and there were fewer brain jams – but I still think it was a high-risk tactic. It did, however, make getting DRAPE a good deal easier with the uncommon P making an appearance. I’m uncertain if any technique heightens the chances of a better finish, though, as it still took me eight attempts, the same result as I’m getting using the Wordle one-word-at-a-time method for the Daily Sequence. Anti-Semitic graffiti incidents are linked: police Anti-Semitic graffiti incidents are linked: police An investigation into a spate of anti-Semitic attacks in Sydney’s east has stepped up after police linked the incidents and identified two men of interest. Hateful graffiti was sprayed on a school in Maroubra and at a shopping centre in Eastgardens, while two homes were also targeted last month. NSW Police believe all the incidents are linked. They want to speak to two men seen in CCTV footage in a white SUV in the vicinity of the attacks. On January 30, officers were called to multiple locations in Sydney’s east following reports of malicious damage. Police went to a school on Runic Lane, Maroubra, a nearby home on Hannan Street and the Eastgardens shopping centre on Bunnerong Road, where they found multiple forms of anti-Semitic graffiti. On the same day officers were called to a home on Sparks Street, Eastlakes, where they found more anti-Semitic graffiti. The investigation was taken over by the NSW Police anti-Semitism taskforce, Strike Force Pearl. The passenger in the car is described as being a man of Caucasian appearance, with a thin build who was last seen wearing a blue jumper with an orange liner, a white medical mask, dark pants and brown shoes. 20. Ashes foe gets WPL revenge over Gardner and Mooney Ashes foe gets WPL revenge over Gardner and Mooney Ash Gardner and Beth Mooney may have outshone Nat Sciver-Brunt in the Ashes – but their old England rival has got her own back on the two *********** aces in a one-sided Women’s Premier League clash. Gardner’s fizzing start to the WPL season in India as the new captain of the Gujarat Giants was abruptly halted by England’s star allrounder Sciver-Brunt, whose victory in their brief but compelling duel on Tuesday went a long way to powering Mumbai Indians to a five-wicket win in Vadodara. With the Giants teetering early on in their innings at 3-22 after being asked to bat, Gardner tried to counter-attack, and smashed Sciver-Brunt’s short ball over deep midwicket for six – her 11th maximum in the space of just three explosive innings. The crowd braced for another all-out assault from the Bankstown basher, following her brilliant half-centuries in the opening two matches, but just two ****** later, Sciver-Brunt undid her Aussie tormentor with a slower delivery. Gardner just mistimed another attempted heave over deep midwicket and this time was caught safely by Sajeevan Sajana for just 10, which proved to be the game’s key moment as Gujarat could then only muster a modest 120 from their 20 overs. Updates | #GGvMI | @mipaltan pic.twitter.com/GxEBCGHJHc— Women’s Premier League (WPL) (@wplt20) February 18, 2025 Earlier, Sciver-Brunt had set the ball rolling by getting opener Mooney, the Ashes’ highest scorer, to slice horribly to third-man, dismissed for one off three ****** to follow up her golden duck in the previous game. Sciver-Brunt then followed her 2-26 off four overs with the key knock in the chase, hammering 57 off 39 ******, including 11 boundaries, as Mumbai, the only side in the WPL without an Aussie in their ranks, eased their way to 5-122 with 23 ****** to spare. Her terrific all-round display still wasn’t enough to earn Sciver-Brunt the player of the match award, though, as her West Indian teammate Hayley Matthews got the nod for her superb spell of 3-16 and handy 17 off 19 ******. The Indians have now beaten Gujarat in every match they’ve played, with Gardner, whose side have lost two and won one, now looking forward to regrouping when the WPL moves from Vadodara to Bengaluru. “We just lost wickets in clumps. We put a lot of onus on the top order to score a bulk of the runs but it wasn’t to be,” shrugged Gardner. “We have a nice, little break now, lots of time to reset. There are lots of positives from the first three games, we could have won two. “But different players have stood up at different times and the younger players have stood up, which is great to see. It is awesome and you see the passion they’re bowling with. It’s special to captain them.” Source link #Ashes #foe #WPL #revenge #Gardner #Mooney Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  24. Trump tariffs are already causing this 1 unfortunate consequence Trump tariffs are already causing this 1 unfortunate consequence The self-described tariff man may already be causing a rethink inside the C-suite about how much long-term capital is invested in building property, plants, and equipment — more formally known to investors as capital expenditures. A new analysis of fourth quarter earnings reports from Goldman Sachs chief economist Jan Hatzius found that S&P 1500 companies hiked 2025 capital expenditure expectations by 5% sequentially. But the revision drops to only 2% for a basket of companies Goldman tracks with broad exposure to tariffs. Capital expenditure plans were revised down 1% for companies with a high reported share of sales to Canada, Mexico, and China. Podcast: Why Trump tariffs may not hammer retail Mentions of tariffs by management on earnings calls jumped well above levels seen during president Trump’s last trade war, Hatzius found. “Company commentary highlighted the uncertainties introduced by tariff policy and their potential to delay or suspend investment decisions,” Hatzius said. “Companies with greater tariff exposure raised their inflation expectations disproportionately, though our aggregate tracker of price announcements only increased modestly on net and remained well within its pre-pandemic range.” The Trump administration has flooded the zone with tariffs in the first few weeks in office. Trump has pledged to put reciprocal tariffs into place pending an April 1 report from Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The premise is that the US would raise its tariffs on foreign items to match what other countries slap on US products. “For many years, the U.S. has been treated unfairly by other Countries, both friend and foe. This System will immediately bring Fairness and Prosperity back into the previously complex and unfair System of Trade. America has helped many Countries throughout the years, at great financial cost. It is now time that these Countries remember this, and treat us fairly — A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD FOR AMERICAN WORKERS,” Trump wrote in a weekend post on social media platform Truth Social. The administration has already levied a 25% tariff on all imported steel. The president has imposed a 10% tariff on all ******** imports on top of existing tariffs on the country. China retaliated, placing tariffs on select chips and metals. Trump recently agreed to pause 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico for 30 days. Read more: What are tariffs, and how do they affect you? President Donald Trump speaks to reporters after landing at Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach, Fla., Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025, after attending the NASCAR Daytona 500 auto race. (Pool via AP) · ASSOCIATED PRESS Hatzius thinks a further extension for Canada and Mexico tariffs is “likely” but expects tariffs on China to rise further. The veteran economist also expects new tariffs on EU autos and critical imports such as pharmaceuticals and semiconductors. Story Continues Watch: What this new public company CEO thinks about Trump and regulation The markets have managed to shrug off tariff concerns as traders are of the view Trump is using them as a negotiating tactic. The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) and Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) are up 2% and 1.2%, respectively, in February. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) is up modestly. Momentum stocks such as Nvidia (NVDA) and Palantir (PLTR) have rallied hard, with latter up 20% this month and the former up 43%. Still, execs are beginning to get cautious about the Trump administration as uncertainty clouds their ability to plan while the costs of doing business rise. “We’re not immune to this [tariffs] — we are less impacted than most of the businesses,” PepsiCo (PEP) chair and CEO Ramon Laguarta told me earlier this month. “Obviously, we bring a lot of aluminum from Canada. We bring some oats from Canada as well, but [the] majority of our food — potatoes, corn — most of our inputs are localized. You know, we will be impacted. But we have enough flexibility — that’s why we’re giving conservative guidance now because we need some flexibility to deal with all this.” — Brian Sozzi is Yahoo Finance’s Executive Editor.
