Hearthstone welcomes you to the Emerald Dream in upcoming expansion
Hearthstone welcomes you to the Emerald Dream in upcoming expansion
A Choose One card lets you pick between two modes
145 new cards being added
Expansion launches on March 25th
If you’ve been following the Pocket Gamer team’s weekly Wrapps, you’ll likely have an idea of just how much I’ve been trying to get into Hearthstone lately – and it seems I’m now going to be lagging behind with the release of its latest update. In particular, the “Into the Emerald Dream” update will add 145 new cards to the fray, switching up your strategies and combat tactics beginning March 25th.
Of course, along with these new cards come fresh Keywords to digest as well: Imbue (Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, and Shaman) and Dark Gifts (Death Knight, ****** Hunter, Rogue, Warlock, and Warrior). I’m still learning how each one affects the flow of the battle at the moment, but it seems these will switch up the meta too especially with the expanded keyword Choose One (every class gets a Choose One card – that’s two modes to choose from in battle).
Plus, there’s a new Legendary minion mixing up the pot with Ysera, Emerald Aspect, so suffice it to say I’ll have my work cut out for me when duking it out against these new decks soon.
So, at the moment, you can already pre-purchase the new bundles until March 25th, but if you’re on the lookout for something else, why not take a peek at our list of the best card games on Android to get your fill?
In the meantime, if you’re eager to join in on all the fun, you can do so by checking out Hearthstone on the App Store and on Google Play. It’s free-to-play with in-app purchases.
You can also join the community of followers on the official Twitter page to stay updated on all the latest developments, visit the official website for more info, or take a little peek at the embedded clip above to get a feel of the vibes and visuals.

JFK’s Grandson Freaks Out After Trump Order Closes Kennedy Library
JFK’s Grandson Freaks Out After Trump Order Closes Kennedy Library
John F. Kennedy’s only grandson returned to social media on Tuesday to throw a fit over the closure of Boston’s JFK Presidential Library and Museum—a move the institution said was due to a recent executive order signed by President Donald Trump.
“Due to an Executive Order concerning a ‘reduction in force (RIF),’ the JFK Library and Museum will be closed to the public until further notice,” a sign posted on the building’s door read, according to CBS.
In a video posted to X just two weeks after dramatically quitting social media, Jack Schlossberg issued a dire warning for the American public.
“Hey, it’s Jack,” he said in a video posted to his 153K followers. “I’m OK, but our country is not. It’s under attack from its own government.”
Schlossberg’s clip was directed at Elon Musk and captioned, “Hey DOGE eat s— buddy.”
Throughout the video, Schlossberg protested a new executive order from President Donald Trump which forced The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum to unexpectedly close “until further notice.” The Boston library opened 45 years ago to honor the 35th president and encourage visitors to learn about his values and ideals.
“It’s time to speak out and resist what’s happening,” said Schlossberg. “If you’re not doing that, you’re not helping.”
Schlossberg also referenced a photo behind him: a picture of a man on the moon. Neil Armstrong first walked on the lunar surface in 1969, largely thanks to President Kennedy’s early Space Race policies. Without the Presidential library, said Schlossberg, the past could be forgotten.
“JFK sent a man to the moon,” he said. “But you’d never know it if the JFK Library wasn’t open.”
The library’s closure came as a result of the Trump administration’s widespread efforts to decrease the size of the federal workforce, America’s largest employer.
Local news station WCVB-TV reported that an emotional staff meeting was held prior to the closure—one that left several employees crying. As many as nine people were laid off from the organization, according to the station.
“Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s thoughtless crusade has caused an iconic institution and economic driver to close in Massachusetts,” the state’s governor, Maura Healey, said in a statement.
Schlossberg’s comeback followed a relatively short ******* of internet silence.
On Feb. 12, the Kennedy heir vowed to delete social media forever. The 32-year-old Vogue correspondent is no stranger to voicing public criticisms, and left X after attacking his cousin RFK Jr., Elon Musk, and others. His posts—many of which were combative and filled with expletives—left some concerned for his mental health and others contemplating defamation suits.

Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro charged over alleged coup plot
Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro charged over alleged coup plot
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been charged by the country’s chief prosecutor with attempting a coup after he was defeated in the 2022 presidential election.
The 69-year-old was handed five charges over the alleged bid to prevent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva from taking office after a bitter election race.
The prosecutor’s advice will now be considered by the Supreme Court. If accepted, Bolsonaro and 33 others will be formally charged and will have to face trial.
Bolsonaro denies wrongdoing and says he’s the victim of political persecution.
He was banned from running for office for eight years after being accused of undermining Brazilian democracy by falsely claiming that electronic ballots used in the October 2022 poll were vulnerable to hacking and fraud.
The bitterly fought election was won by an extremely narrow margin by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva – known more commonly as Lula.
Bolsonaro never publicly acknowledged his defeat and left Brazil for the US two days before Lula was sworn in as president.
On 8 January 2023, his supporters stormed government buildings in the capital Brasilia. Parts of the buildings were ransacked and police arrested 1,500 of the rioters.
Three months ago, the federal police released a report accusing Bolsonaro of playing a lead role in planning and organising an attempted coup – including by proposing the idea to key figures in the military – to stop Lula taking power.
The document charging Bolsonaro says the responsibility for acts that were harmful to democratic order lies with a criminal organisation led by Bolsonaro himself.
In practice, this means legal proceedings are beginning and Bolsonaro will likely face a trial.
One of the charges is for the crime of “armed criminal organisation”, allegedly led by Bolsonaro and his vice-presidential candidate Walter Braga Netto.
“Allied with other individuals, including civilians and military personnel, they attempted to prevent, in a coordinated manner, the result of the 2022 presidential elections from being fulfilled,” Attorney General Paulo Gonet Branco said in a statement.
Brazilian media reports that the Supreme Court is expected to proceed with the trial later this year.
Reaction to the prosecutor’s decision shows that the divisions that have marked Brazilian politics for the past decade remain as deep as ever.
Government supporters are celebrating and saying the former president belongs in jail, while the opposition insist he’s innocent.
The focus now is on the impact the Supreme Court decision will have on next year’s presidential election. Recent opinion polls show record levels of rejection for President Lula.
Despite being banned from running for office, Bolsonaro remains a strong political force in Brazil and could use the trial as a platform for his agenda.

Super Micro’s Stock Skyrockets 73.5%–Can It Sustain Its AI-Driven Growth?
Super Micro’s Stock Skyrockets 73.5%–Can It Sustain Its AI-Driven Growth?
Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ:SMCI) is on fire. The stock soared 13.3% at 11.41pm on Tuesday, extending its year-to-date gain to a staggering 73.5%, making it the best-performing name in the S&P 500. What’s fueling the rally? A bold fiscal 2026 revenue target of $40 billionfar above Wall Street’s expectationsand growing anticipation for Nvidia’s Blackwell GPU, which plays a critical role in Super Micro’s AI server business. With investor sentiment shifting back in its favor, the stock’s meteoric rise signals a resurgence of the AI trade.
But there’s still an elephant in the room. Super Micro has yet to file key financial reports, a delay that previously sent shares plunging more than 80% from their peak. That overhang may soon be lifted, as management has committed to filing by February 25 to avoid a potential Nasdaq delisting. Analysts at JPMorgan acknowledge the company’s upbeat guidance but remain cautious, suggesting the outlook might be too aggressive given current supply constraints. Still, Super Micro’s CEO Charles Liang is confident: if supply chains hold up, he believes 2025 could be a repeator even betterthan the explosive growth of 2023.
With SMCI’s gains now rivaling Palantir’s, the stock is quickly becoming one of the market’s biggest AI-driven success stories. If the company follows through on its ambitious revenue projections and successfully clears its accounting hurdles, the upside could be massive. But in a market that’s seen its fair share of hype-fueled AI bets, execution will be everything. Investors are watching closelythis story is far from over.

Deal on new EU rules to reduce textile and food waste | News
Deal on new EU rules to reduce textile and food waste | News
Cutting down food waste
Negotiators agreed to introduce binding food waste reduction targets to be met at national level by 31 December 2030: 10% in food processing and manufacturing and 30% per capita in retail, restaurants, food services and households. These targets would be calculated in comparison to the amount generated as an annual average between 2021 and 2023. Following Parliament’s request, EU countries would have to take measures to ensure that economic operators having a significant role in the prevention and generation of food waste (to be identified in each country) facilitate the donation of unsold food that is safe for human consumption.
Producers to cover costs for collecting, sorting and recycling waste textiles
According to the deal, EU countries would have to establish producer responsibility (EPR) schemes, through which producers that make textiles available in an EU country would have to cover the costs for their collection, sorting and recycling, 30 months after the entry into force of the directive. These provisions would apply to all producers, including those using e-commerce tools and irrespective of whether they are established in an EU country or outside the EU. Micro-enterprises would need to comply with the EPR requirements 12 months later.
The new rules would cover products such as clothing and accessories, footwear, blankets, bed and kitchen linen, curtains, hats. At Parliament’s initiative, EU countries may also set up EPR schemes for the producers of mattresses.
Negotiators also agreed that member states should address ultra-fast fashion and fast fashion practices when setting out the financial contributions to the EPR schemes.
Quote
Rapporteur Anna Zalewska (ECR, PL) said: “During the final negotiations round, Parliament succeeded to secure provisions making sure that food waste and textiles waste as part of the municipal waste will be further reduced. We succeeded in ensuring feasible and realistic provisions for member states to implement food waste reduction policies and we managed to ensure that the agriculture sector will not be negatively impacted. We also set up the legal framework to ensure that producers contribute to the effective separate collection of textiles they produce. We managed to lower the administrative burden both for member states and economic operators.”
Next steps
Parliament and Council have concluded an “early second reading agreement” (negotiations took place after the EP’s first reading was adopted in plenary). The Council is now expected to formally adopt its position, which can then be endorsed by the EP in second reading.
Background
Every year, almost 60 million tonnes of food waste (132 kg per person) and 12.6 million tonnes of textile waste are generated in the EU. Clothing and footwear alone account for 5.2 million tonnes of waste, equivalent to 12 kg of waste per person every year. It is estimated that less than 1% of all textiles worldwide are recycled into new products.
In July 2023, the Commission proposed a revision of the EU rules on waste, targeted at food and textile waste. Under the existing rules, EU countries were already required to set up separate collection of textiles by 1 January 2025.

MABA: Hawkers defeat Redbacks on Wednesday night with a four-point victory
Hawkers took down Redbacks to secure the Manjimup Amateur Basketball Competition round 15 win on Wednesday night with a four-point victory in Men’s A.
Redbacks stayed within touching distance for much of the contest, but Hawkers were able to pull away late for a 31-27 win.
A team effort saw Hawkers keep the lead, despite some intense offensive effort from Redbacks.
Drew Carruthers produced almost half Hawkers’ offensive output, with 13 points, while Matthew Bornatici scored the next highest, with seven points.
The competition’s leading scorer Blake Rawson produced a season-low eight points, unusual for the side’s leading points scorer who is comfortable scoring in the double digits.
Also in Men’s A, Barracudas defeated Purple Cobras 99-42, Hawks beat Dribblers 29-28, and Raiders drew 41-41 with Wolfpack.
In Men’s B, Yabbies defeated Flint Tropics 52-29, and Giants beat Billy Goats 48-30.

Minnesota declares state of emergency as diseases cripple Midwestern farms
Minnesota declares state of emergency as diseases cripple Midwestern farms
Minnesota has declared a state of emergency as multiple strains of bird flu have ravaged farms.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) stated in a press release that the Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s Rural Finance Authority (RFA) Board established the emergency following three outbreaks.
Those included avian metapneumovirus (aMPV), highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), and the H5N1 flu virus.
New Bird Flu Strain Detected In Nevada Dairy Worker, Cdc Says
The state of emergency allows Minnesota farmers who have experienced livestock losses to access funds through zero-interest disaster recovery loans, according to the above source.
Fran Miron feeds his cows at his farm on Sept. 5, 2019, in Hugo, Minnesota. Minnesota has declared a state of emergency as multiple strains of bird flu have ravaged farms.
An MDA spokesperson confirmed with Fox News Digital that this declaration is a “formality the Rural Finance Authority Board must take in order to open up the Disaster Recovery Loan Program to farmers.”
Read On The Fox News App
“The declaration has no impact beyond that and affects no other funding or programs.”
The loan program provides funds for expenses not covered by insurance, according to the MDA, including replacement of flocks or livestock, building improvements, or loss of revenue due to animal disease outbreaks.
Bird Flu Uptick In Us Has Cdc On Alert For Pandemic ‘Red Flags’: Report
Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen wrote in a statement that this is an “important step in helping Minnesota farmers affected by these three animal health diseases.”
“I encourage those who have faced livestock losses to explore these zero-interest loans,” he added.
avian metapneumovirus (aMPV) is a “highly infectious respiratory disease” that affects poultry and can cause “significant immunosuppression” in birds, as well as secondary infections and high mortality, according to the MDA.
USDA workers disinfect a work crew at a Jennie-O turkey farm in Eden Valley, Minnesota, on April 30, 2015, amid a bird flu outbreak.
Since April 2024, Minnesota has reported 871 aMPV positive tests, which is “likely an undercount,” health officials said.
HPAI — which is a contagious, viral and fatal disease — has also posed a “major threat” to the poultry industry, MDA reported.
In Minnesota, there have been 185 cases of HPAI confirmed since March 2022, affecting 9.1 million domestic birds, mostly turkeys.

H5N1, also known as avian influenza or bird flu, causes the same virus in poultry as HPAI, but can also affect dairy cows and other animals.
Bird flu strains have also spread to humans, including a dairy worker in Nevada who was infected by a new type (D1.1) last week, as Fox News Digital previously reported.
For more Health articles, visit www.foxnews.com/health
Sam Scarpino, director of AI and life sciences and professor of health sciences at Northeastern University in Boston, previously said that he considers the ongoing U.S. bird flu outbreak as “serious.”
Bird flu cases have risen across the U.S. and have infected some humans.
“We now have at least two distinct H5N1 strains (akin to variants if we were discussing COVID-19) that have infected dairy cattle, poultry and humans,” he told Fox News Digital. “The H5N1 situation in the U.S. continues to get worse, not better.”
Scarpino shared his approval of the recent choice of Dr. Gerald Parker to run the White House Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy.
“His appointment signals that the federal government is giving the H5N1 situation the attention it needs,” he said.
“From the perspective of both the building agricultural costs and continued risk of human infection, we have to bring this H5N1 outbreak under control.”

Eterspire tasks you with searching for runaway Specklings, now with upgraded combat features and new cosmetics
Combat-centred update with expanded skill tree
New side-quests
Quality-of-life improvements
Eterspire is spicing up the combat mechanics within the indie MMORPG with an expanded skill tree, and I don’t know about you, but I always love diving into the nuances of branching abilities in these kinds of genres. In particular, Eterspire’s latest update will add three new active skills to all of its classes, so there’s a lot more to strategise about during battles.
Now, the new updates will mostly be centred on combat here, so you can boost your weapon and amulet skills and tinker around with your builds even further. With a total of five active skills now in your arsenal, you can tweak your ranged, melee, or AoE attacks and combine abilities to deal the maximum damage output.
As for cosmetics, two new loot boxes will be joining the fray: Lord of War and Roar of the Wild. Opening these up will reward you with themed armour sets along with wings and pets so you can switch up your look.
Of course, no MMO would be complete without some quirky side-quests. You can lend Stonehollow’s shopkeepers, Roy and Leila, a hand, or go on a hunt for runaway Specklings to keep yourself busy.

How much snow will the Upstate SC get? See the latest forecast
How much snow will the Upstate SC get? See the latest forecast
On the eve of a potential snowfall event, some uncertainty remains as to how much precipitation – if any – the Upstate will receive.
The latest Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service at 4:37 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, called for potential winter weather hazards in the Upstate.
Here’s what the NWS told the News about the impending weather.
More: Spring weather outlook: Old Farmer’s Almanac SC, Southeast forecast
Hazardous Weather Outlook for the Upstate
The forecast was not firm by late Tuesday afternoon. But here’s what the outlook says:
“An area of low pressure passing to the south of the region is expected to spread wintry precipitation across the area north of a line from Clayton, Georgia, to Greenville, Spartanburg, and Rock Hill in Upstate South Carolina, and Monroe, North Carolina, on Wednesday and Wednesday night,” the NWS said. “Confidence remains low on snow or ice accumulations across the Georgia and South Carolina Piedmont. But any amounts are expected to be light.”
How much snow will Upstate South Carolina get?
In Upstate South Carolina, NWS Meteorologist Jeffrey Taylor said that some areas are expected to see light snow.
“There are some parts in northernmost upstate, along the North Carolina border, some of those areas that may get a tenth or a couple of tenths of an inch,” Taylor said.
He added that the northeastern corner of the region including York, Chester and Cherokee Counties could see small amounts. Some areas along the N.C. border may also see ice or freezing rain.
Chances of ice on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Chance of precipitation in the Upstate South Carolina
NWS forecasts for the Greenville-Spartanburg area show a chance of snow showers before 5 p.m., then a chance of rain and snow showers, with an overall chance of precipitation resting at 80%.
On Wednesday night, there is a chance of rain and snow showers before 7 p.m., then a slight chance of snow. The overall chance of precipitation overnight is 30%. By Thursday, the area is expected to be mostly sunny.
Winter weather advisory in Western NC
The latest advisory for WNC from the weather service goes into effect at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, and ends at noon Thursday, Feb. 20.
WNC as well as portions of northeast Georgia could see snow accumulations mainly under an inch in valleys, and up to 1-3 inches on ridgetops. Ice accumulations are also a risk, as well as winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
How much snow will Asheville get? Western NC?
Meanwhile, Taylor told the Citizen Times that Asheville will likely only see a small amount of snow and ice throughout the storm.
“We’ve got about a half an inch of snow over the Asheville area to the whole event tomorrow,” Taylor said. “So it’s not very much. It’s still looking pretty low end.”
Taylor added that coming precipitation could include potential for rain, snow and freezing rain. As usual, higher elevations of WNC are likely to see the most snow and ice in the region.
AccuWeather’s snow forecast for Feb. 18-20, 2025.
Chance of precipitation in Asheville, Western NC
According to NWS forecasts, overall chance of precipitation in the Asheville area on Wednesday, Feb. 19, rests at 70%. In the Hendersonville area, the chance is slightly higher at 80%. Snow showers are most likely before 5 p.m., then a chance of rain and snow showers.
On Wednesday night, there is a 30% chance of rain and snow showers before 7 p.m. in both Asheville and Hendersonville.
When will the snow start?
In the Asheville area and much of WNC, Taylor said that chances for snow jump to about 50% at around 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
By Wednesday night, chances of precipitation drop to 30% in the area, and by Thursday, partly sunny weather is expected.

RFK Jr. Names First Targets in Chilling Speech as Health Secretary
Now that he has been confirmed as secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. plans to put his frightening ideas about public health into action.
Kennedy made a speech to HHS staff at the Washington, D.C., headquarters Tuesday and announced that he planned to begin investigations into whether anti-depressant medications and the childhood vaccine schedule are responsible for chronic diseases in the United States. The speech was intended for staff only, although a livestream link was distributed.
“Nothing is going to be off limits,” Kennedy said, and urged staff to keep an “open mind.”
“We will convene representatives of all viewpoints to study the causes for the drastic rise in chronic disease,” Kennedy added. “Some of the possible factors we will investigate were formally taboo or insufficiently scrutinized.”
Kennedy’s comments on childhood vaccines contradict his testimony during his Senate confirmation hearings, where he told the Senate Finance Committee, “I support vaccines. I support the vaccine schedule. I support good science.”
Several medical studies have debunked claims that vaccines and SSRI anti-depressant medications are linked to chronic illnesses or conditions such as autism. But now that Kennedy has been confirmed, it seems that he can stop pretending to support such health measures.
Over the weekend, several thousand probationary federal health employees were fired, only one day after Kennedy’s confirmation. With fewer employees to oppose him, Kennedy can put his debunked theories about public health into practice, and the consequences could be disastrous.

Senate confirms Howard Lutnick as commerce secretary, a key role for Trump’s trade agenda
Senate confirms Howard Lutnick as commerce secretary, a key role for Trump’s trade agenda
U.S. President Donald Trump speaks from the Oval Office of the White House, flanked by U.S. Commerce secretary Howard Lutnick, on the day he signs executive orders for reciprocal tariffs, in Washington, U.S., February 13, 2025.

The Senate confirmed wealthy financier Howard Lutnick as commerce secretary Tuesday, putting in place a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump’s hardline trade polices.
At the Commerce Department, Lutnick, who was CEO at the investment firm Cantor Fitzgerald, will oversee 50,000 employees who do everything from collecting economic statistics to running the census to issuing weather reports. But he’s likely to spend a lot of time — along with Jamieson Greer, Trump’s nominee to be the top U.S. trade negotiator — managing the president’s aggressive plans to impose import taxes on U.S. trading partners, including allies and adversaries alike.
The Sentae vote to confirm Lutnick was 51-45.
Trump views the tariffs as a versatile economic tool. They can raise money to finance his tax cuts elsewhere, protect U.S. industries and pressure other countries into making concessions on such issues as their own trade barriers, immigration and drug trafficking. Mainstream economists mostly view tariffs as counterproductive: They are paid by import companies in the United States, which try to pass along the higher costs to consumers and can thereby add to inflationary pressures throughout the economy.
At his confirmation hearing last month, Lutnick dismissed as “nonsense” the idea that tariffs contribute to inflation. He expressed support for deploying across-the-board tariffs “country by country” to strong-arm other countries into lowering barriers to American exports.
Trump last week announced plans for “reciprocal” tariffs — raising U.S. import tax rates to match the higher taxes that other countries impose on goods from the U.S. The move would shatter the rules that have governed world trade for decades. Since the 1960s, tariff rates have mostly emerged from negotiations between dozens of countries. Trump is commandeering the process.
The president has also imposed 10% tariffs on ******** imports and effectively raised U.S. taxes on foreign steel and aluminum. He has threatened — and delayed until March 4 — 25% tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico.
Lutnick was CEO at Cantor Fitzgerald when its offices were hit in the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center. The firm lost two-thirds of its employees — 658 people — that day, including Lutnick’s brother. Howard Lutnick led the firm’s recovery and is a member of the Board of Directors of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
Lutnick has promised to sell off his business holdings. They’re complicated. His financial disclosure statement showed that he had positions in more than 800 businesses and other private organizations.

NAB, CBA dragging Aussie shares modestly lower at noon
NAB, CBA dragging Aussie shares modestly lower at noon
The local share market is on track for its third day of losses, dragged by two of the big four banks after disappointing first-quarter earnings from NAB.
Shortly after noon on Wednesday the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 28.5 points lower at 8,452.5, a drop of 0.34 per cent, while the broader All Ordinaries had fallen 24 points, or 0.27 per cent, to 8,732.7.
The modest losses come even after the S&P500 hit a new record high on Wall Street.
Across the Ditch, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand on Wednesday slashed interest rates by half a percentage point, to 3.75 per cent, as expected.
At midday, six of the ASX’s 11 sectors were higher and five were lower.
Financials was the biggest mover, dropping 1.4 per cent as NAB fell 5.8 per cent to $37.22 after announcing its first-quarter cash earnings had dropped two per cent to $1.74 billion.
Saxo Asia Pacific senior sales trader Junvum Kim said that NAB had navigated a challenging first quarter, with pressure from tighter margins and higher credit impairments.
CBA was down 1.8 per cent to $159.74, with the drop from two big banks accounting for all of the ASX’s losses at midday.
ANZ had dropped 0.8 per cent while Westpac was basically flat – although its shares are down 6.9 per cent so far this week after releasing its first-quarter earnings statement on Monday.
In the energy sector, Santos was down 3.1 per cent to $6.68 after the oil and gas producer announced a sharply lower dividend while reassuring investors that its Barossa gas project was on track to begin production in the third quarter.
In the heavyweight mining sector, goldminers were higher as the precious metal changed hands at $US2,938 an ounce, just under its all-time high set last week.
Northern Star was up 1.3 per cent, Newmont had addded 1.4 per cent and Evolution had gained 1.5 per cent.
Tom Stevenson, investment director at Fidelity International, said gold was on the rise because of its perceived safe-haven qualities at a time when the world looks uncertain.
“The election of Donald Trump has massively increased the unpredictability of US policy, on many fronts but notably on trade and tariffs,” he said.
Elsewhere in the sector, BHP was up 0.3 per cent, Fortescue had gained 0.6 per cent and Rio Tinto had advanced 0.9 per cent.
The *********** dollar was buying 63.44 US cents, from 63.42 US cents at 5pm on Tuesday.

Rapper A$AP Rocky found not guilty in assault trial
Rapper A$AP Rocky found not guilty in assault trial
Rapper A$AP Rocky was found not guilty of two counts of felony assault at the conclusion of a trial in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The musician, who has two children with singer Rihanna, had faced more than two decades in prison if he had been convicted of the alleged attack on a former friend in Hollywood in 2021.
There was commotion in the courtroom as the jury’s verdict was read out, with the Grammy-nominated hip hop star, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, hugging people in relief as he was declared not guilty.
During the weeks-long trial, prosecutors said Mayers had shot a nine-millimeter semi-automatic weapon during a confrontation with Terell Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli, on November 6, 2021, in the heart of Hollywood, grazing Ephron’s hand.
Mayers, 36, had insisted he had been carrying only a harmless prop gun.
The two had previously been friends, and had both been part of A$AP, a rap collective from New York, but had fallen out because other members of the group felt Mayers’ commercial success had made him arrogant.
Ephron told the jury he had been lured to a parking garage for an encounter that was partially caught on grainy surveillance video.
He claimed that after the two exchanged words, Mayers pulled a gun from his waistband, put it toward Relli’s stomach and said, “I’ll kill you right now.”
Ephron said two bullets were fired, with one of them grazing his knuckles.
Defending attorney Joe Tacopina said the weapon was “absolutely nothing more than a prop gun… a starter gun, a blank gun, a fake gun. It’s used in pop movies and music videos.”
Describing Ephron as “a criminal and a perjurer,” Tacopina said seven police officers searched the scene of the shooting hours later but found neither shell casings nor a weapon.
Yet, after officers left, Ephron returned to the scene and discovered a pair of nine-millimeter shell casings he said he had picked up from the street where he was shot at, Tacopina said.
Neither side was able to produce the gun they said had been used on the night.
– ‘Extortion’ –
Tacopina said the whole story of a shooting had been manufactured to extort money from his wealthy and successful client.
Speaking after the verdict, Tacopina told reporters the jury had seen through the “mirage of a case.”
“I’ve always said this was an extortion. The extortion played out live in court,” he said.
“The district attorney should look long and hard at prosecuting Terell Ephron.”
Tacopina paid tribute to Mayers and Rihanna, whom he described as “the greatest people.”
There was no immediate reaction from either Mayers or Rihanna, who had been in court frequently during the trial.
A$AP Rocky shot to fame in the first half of the last decade with two mega-selling albums: “Long. Live. A$AP” and “At. Long. Last. A$AP.”
In 2019, he was given a suspended prison sentence in Sweden after a fight, in an affair that caused diplomatic tensions between Stockholm and Washington, pushing then-president Donald Trump to intervene.
