  1. Rihanna says her next album will be ‘unexpected’ Rihanna says her next album will be ‘unexpected’ Singer Rihanna has said her new album will be unexpected and she feels “really optimistic” about it in a rare interview. “I know it’s not going to be anything that anybody expects,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “And it’s not going to be commercial or radio digestible. It’s going to be where my artistry deserves to be right now.” The 37-year-old has kept fans waiting for years for her new album. Her eighth studio album, Anti, was released in 2016. There have been plenty of rumours about what direction the long-awaited record will take, including talk of it being a reggae album. But Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Fenty, was quick to dispel those. “Way off! There’s no genre now. That’s why I waited. Every time, I was just like, ‘No, it’s not me. It’s not right,” she said. “This much time away from music needs to count for the next thing everyone hears. It has to count,” she added. “I cannot put up anything mediocre. After waiting eight years, you might as well just wait some more.” While not revealing any more, she told the magazine that she was “feeling really optimistic. “I feel like I’ve finally cracked it, girl!,” she said. The multi-Grammy Award winner, who began her career in 2003, is best known for songs such as Umbrella, Shut Up And Drive and What’s My Name? Despite stepping away from music in recent years, she has been keeping busy with her make-up and skincare brands. In the interview, she said she was focusing on living in the moment. She also shared her thoughts on growing older, using an expletitive to describe the process, while saying “it’s also a blessing”. “My legacy is right now. That’s all I have the most control over. My legacy is what I do with my time at this moment”. Rihanna has two young sons, RZA and Riot, with her longtime partner, rapper A$AP Rocky. Earlier this week, the musician, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, was found not guilty of firing a gun at a former friend by a jury in Los Angeles. 2. Sepsis a threat in pope’s pneumonia battle as ******** celebrations march on without him – National Sepsis a threat in pope’s pneumonia battle as ******** celebrations march on without him – National The ******** carried on with its Holy Year celebrations without the pope Saturday, as Pope Francis battled pneumonia and a complex respiratory infection that doctors say remains touch-and-go and will keep him hospitalized for at least another week. Francis slept well overnight, ******** spokesman Matteo Bruni said in a brief early update Saturday. But doctors have warned that the main threat facing the 88-year-old Francis would be the onset of sepsis, a serious infection of the blood that can occur as a complication of pneumonia. As of Friday, there was no evidence of any sepsis, and Francis was responding to the various drugs he is taking, the pope’s medical team said in their first in-depth update on the pope’s condition. “He is not out of danger,” said his personal physician, Dr. Luigi Carbone. “So like all fragile patients I say they are always on the golden scale: In other words, it takes very little to become unbalanced.” Story continues below advertisement Francis, who has chronic lung disease, was admitted to Gemelli hospital on Feb. 14 after a weeklong bout of bronchitis worsened. Dr. Sergio Alfieri, the head of medicine and surgery at Rome’s Gemelli hospital, said the biggest threat facing Francis was that some of the germs that are currently located in his respiratory system pass into the bloodstream, causing sepsis. Sepsis can lead to organ failure and death. “Sepsis, with his respiratory problems and his age, would be really difficult to get out of,” Alfieri told a press conference Friday at Gemelli. “The English say ‘knock on wood,’ we say ‘touch iron.’ Everyone touch what they want,” he said as he tapped the microphone. “But this is the real risk in these cases: that these germs pass to the bloodstream.” Trending Now Liberal leadership candidate Ruby Dhalla disqualified from race Bank of Canada governor’s tariff warning: ‘There won’t be a bounceback’ “He knows he’s in danger,” Alfieri added. “And he told us to relay that.” Story continues below advertisement Deacons, meanwhile, were gathering at the ******** for their special Jubilee weekend. 3. NetEase almost canceled Marvel Rivals NetEase almost canceled Marvel Rivals NetEase CEO William Ding almost canceled Marvel Rivals because he didn’t want to pay for the licenses to use Marvel characters. During that time, he tried to push original characters. A Bloomberg report (via IGN) shared sources that claim that Marvel Rivals was on thin-ice solely because of its ties to existing media. Of course, it was pushed through and the game was seen as a massive success, no doubt making Ding feel like a fool for doubting the game’s ability. NetEase Games has since the Marvel-linked game’s release seen great success, though it has shut down rumors of a PvE mode, which would make it stand out. It also closed down its Seattle operation, and started pulling out of non-******** investments, with notable former investments being Bungie, Devolver Digital, and more. Moreover, the report points to Ding being a wild leader — making sporadic decisions, changing his mind, and doing things like hiring recent grads in leadership roles. He’s also canned tons of projects to the point next year might look grim for NetEase’s game library. In our Marvel Rivals review, we said: “If you’re not into multiplayer, it’s at least worth a shot because it’s free-to-play. NetEase released Marvel Rivals at just the perfect time. 4. Supercars stars keen to add aggression in title hunt Supercars stars keen to add aggression in title hunt Supercars drivers are set to dial up on-track aggression on the road to a new-look finals series after Cam Waters set the tone at the Sydney 500. Waters put Triple Eight rival Broc Feeney to the sword at Sydney Motorsport Park on Saturday to emerge victorious by a staggeringly narrow 0.0308-second buffer. Pole-sitter Waters pulled off a sensational drive to run down Feeney, having lost the lead when Richie Stanaway’s PremiAir Nulon Racing car caught fire early in Saturday’s 200km sprint. On his way back to the top, Waters sent Feeney off the track at turn four as reigning champion Will Brown momentarily surged into the lead. Waters redressed the incident by giving up his spot and was cleared of fault by race stewards, before running into Feeney’s rear bar in the final lap. The Tickford driver then copped a bump from Brown before crossing the finish line first for his second-consecutive win of the weekend thanks to a slipstream. Triple Eight driver Brown finished third. “I wasn’t sure if I was going to get a penalty or not, but I didn’t want to have that hanging over my head, so I just rolled out of it,” Waters said. While agreeing the late-stage drag race made for a thrilling end, Feeney said the inaction from race stewards over Waters’s bump has created confusion for drivers. Aggression will be key for the championship hunt after the introduction of an elimination series in a major format revamp for the 2025 season. Series titles will no longer be won based on points accumulation, with the standings to be reset between the three finals rounds. The new NASCAR-inspired format will also progressively cut the 24-strong grid down to four drivers. “We’ve still got that cloud over us, like with contact does there come a penalty?” Feeney said. “With finals coming in, there’s been a lot of talk and over the last couple of years about how they want the rules to go for racing. “We’re going nearly more and more NASCAR-style where in general, you can sort of rub up a little bit more. “I’m sure everyone in here agrees that’s probably one of the best races there’s been in a while in Supercars and it came with a lot of running into each other.” Feeney’s teammate Brown echoed his sentiments. “It is a bit of a grey area now,” Brown said. “The race was so exciting tonight, you don’t want to penalise anyone. It would’ve been very disappointing after the race “But also, if you’re doing that from fifth place now, are they going to penalise you? “That’s the hardest thing right now – for us going into the rest of the season, can you get away with that every day?” Drivers return to the track on Sunday for the final sprint race of the Sydney 500 at 4.05pm (AEDT). 6. The Dark Souls Game That Had Such an “Unusual development cycle” That Even the Director Called It “Arduous” The Dark Souls Game That Had Such an “Unusual development cycle” That Even the Director Called It “Arduous” All the games made by FromSoftware are truly revolutionary in one sense or another. However, it takes more than just a few hundred hours of development time to be done with a title, and with a game like Dark Souls 2 that has such high-stakes riding on it, the problems become more unpredictable and harder than one can imagine. Dark Souls 2 was one of the biggest challenges for the studio | FromSoftware When a game director calls their own project ‘arduous’, you know something went terribly wrong. Dark Souls 2 was the infamous middle child of FromSoftware’s legendary franchise that embraces the Souls formula and had one of the most turbulent development cycles in gaming history. Dark Souls 2: And why the absence of Hidetaka Miyazaki was a big problem Hidetaka Miyazaki (via GameInformer) The biggest red flag for Dark Souls 2’s development was the absence of Hidetaka Miyazaki, the genius behind ******’s Souls and the first Dark Souls. While Miyazaki moved on to direct Bloodborne, FromSoftware then chose a new duo: Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura, to direct the sequel. Directing Dark Souls 2 was a big deal, mostly because it was supposed to live up to every fan’s hype and expectations that can usually only be fulfilled by Miyazaki and nobody else. Talking about what a challenge it was developing the game, Yui Tanimura revealed the following in an interview, translated via Barnard Translations. We had to decide what to do with the designs and maps that had been created up to that point. Ideally we’d start again from scratch but of course we were under time constraints so instead, we had to figure out how to repurpose the designs in our newly reimagined game. This meant everything from deciding new roles for characters to finding ways to slot locations into the world map. This unusual development cycle faced us with an entirely different set of problems and looking back on the project as a whole it was at times, arduous The director essentially talked about how there was a point in development from which the studio had to hit reset on the game but wasn’t able to start from scratch, as significant progress had already been made. This meant that they had to figure out what to do with the produced designs and characters, making the development feel very arduous and tiring. Dark Souls 2 and its problems Dark Souls 2 wasn’t liked by many fans at the time of release | FromSoftware One of the most bizarre differences in Dark Souls 2 was its world design. Unlike the masterfully interconnected map of the first Dark Souls, this sequel felt like a series of loosely connected levels connected together, breaking the franchise’s environmental continuity, something it was previously known for. This was a direct result of the development team struggling to piece together a game that had already changed directors. The game was also built on an entirely new engine, which led to major difficulties in achieving the original vision. Fortunately, the game over the years has developed a cult fanbase that highlights its more positive aspects. Dark Souls 2, after all, is proof that even when FromSoftware stumbles, they still create something worth talking about. 8. ‘Uncharted territory’: Will Trump’s foreign policy lead to new world order? ‘Uncharted territory’: Will Trump’s foreign policy lead to new world order? A month into Donald Trump’s second term as U.S. president, it has become clear around the world that America’s approach to foreign policy is undergoing a significant change. Since the end of the Second World War, the United States’ alliance with the West has held steady, but as that evolves, those who study history say the world order we have known for 80 years could be set for a seismic shift. “Clearly there is deep concern around the world about this being a retreat from leadership (by the United States) to a more transactional, unilateralist approach to international relations,” said John Blaxland, a professor of International Security at the *********** National University. “This is such uncharted territory; none of us have actually lived through anything like this before.” Many European leaders were stunned earlier this month when in a blistering speech at the Munich Security Conference, U.S. Vice-President JD Vance told the audience “there is a new sheriff in town under Donald Trump’s leadership” and warned governments that internal threats to democracy, like election cancellations and censorship, are greater threats to their countries than external antagonists like China and Russia. Story continues below advertisement “The threat that I worry the most about vis-à-vis Europe is not Russia, it’s not China, it’s not any other external actor,” Vance said, speaking at the Munich Security Conference. “What I worry about is the threat from within — the retreat of Europe from some of its most fundamental values, values shared with the United States of America.” 2:03 Ukraine’s future in sharp focus as JD Vance and Zelenskyy meet Days later, Trump appeared to reverse course on the country’s support for Ukraine, adopting hostile rhetoric reminiscent of the misinformation frequently shared by Russian President Vladimir Putin Get daily National news Get the day’s top news, political, economic, and current affairs headlines, delivered to your inbox once a day. During a press conference earlier, when asked why Ukraine wasn’t included in the U.S.-Russia talks, Trump accused Ukraine not just of avoiding a negotiated end to the war but also of starting it. “Today I heard, ‘Oh, well, we weren’t invited. ‘Well, you’ve been there for three years. You should have ended it three years (ago). You should have never started it,” he said. Story continues below advertisement Historian Andrew Gawthorpe says the last few weeks have been a “tremendously significant moment” with serious implications for the rest of the world. “For the first time there is a rift in the Western Alliance,” said the Leiden University professor in an interview with Global News from his home in Leiden, Netherlands. “It certainly seems like Trump’s dream is to join with Vladimir Putin in redrawing the security order in Europe, redrawing the international order in Europe.” Gawthorpe says you’d have to go back to the late 1940s to find a comparably significant historical time. “It is after World War Two that the United States accepted that it was going to play a prominent role in upholding this world order and upholding security in Europe as well. That’s when the U.S. sent troops permanently to Europe for the first time.” he said. “Trump wants to undo this order. He believes that it has been decades and decades of the rest of the world taking advantage of the United States.” 2:05 Trump demands Ukraine sign critical minerals deal Trending Now Bank of Canada governor’s tariff warning: ‘There won’t be a bounceback’ Chantal Kreviazuk changes ********* anthem lyric to protest Trump remarks What this will mean for the international community has become the sudden focus of scholars and governments around the globe. Story continues below advertisement “I think everyone is looking for a plan B right now,” said Blaxland. “Everyone’s trying to think, ‘OK, now what?’” Donald Heflin, a Senior Fellow at Tufts University and a former U.S. diplomat, believes institutions like the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund and the NATO alliance are strong enough to survive the next four years. “(The U.S) is a very important player. Are we indispensable or could these alliances pick up and get the work done? I think the latter. I think they will survive,” Heflin said. “Though there could be some bad things that happen over the next three or four years and it would be great if these institutions were stronger during that time to deal with them.” Heflin believes protecting these institutions and alliances is in the best interest in the United States as well. “It’s been a much more peaceful, much more stable world and it’s due to the hard work of all member countries in those institutions.” Both Blaxland and Gawthorpe say a weakened Western alliance would be seen as an opportunity for China to expand its sphere of influence around the world. “This is a huge opening for China,” said Blaxland. “This is an opportunity for China to say, ‘See, America, what is it? What do they hold over us? Principles? Soft power? Moral authority? International rules?’ These have all been thrown up in the air.” Story continues below advertisement “We’re going to be living in a world with three big superpowers in the United States, Russia and China,” said Gawthorpe. “We’re going to see more and more that small countries don’t have their voices listened to and that they are bent to the will of these superpowers.” Countries like Canada, Gawthorpe suspects, will have few cards to play. “The rules and international laws and institutions that gave them a voice and gave them influence in global affairs are seemingly wilting away, replaced by this rule of strongmen,” Gawthorpe said. “I think that we’re heading to a world of much greater instability and unpredictability. (To say) we’re heading towards war is too pessimistic but we can say that the situation globally is becoming much more contentious.” More on Canada More videos &copy 2025 Global News, a division of Corus Entertainment Inc. 9. Victory coach says Melbourne derby needs more City fans Victory coach says Melbourne derby needs more City fans Melbourne Victory coach Arthur Diles says the Melbourne derby needs the game’s best referees – and for Melbourne City fans to turn up. AAMI Park was pumping during a pulsating 2-2 draw between two teams pushing for finals on Saturday night. But the game was somewhat taken over by several contentious refereeing decisions, including a controversial penalty and players escaping red cards. When asked if referee Jonathan Barreiro struggled to handle the occasion, Diles said: “You’d have to ask him. “Big occasions, I think they should always put the best referees to ref these big occasions and that’s always a reward for the best referees. “I don’t know if that was the case.” The Melbourne derby has lacked some of the aura of its Sydney counterpart in recent years, and has struggled to fill the smaller AAMI Park recently, despite a raucous, largely pro-Victory contingent. “You look out there tonight when it’s our home game and it’s pretty one-sided in terms of fans. You look when it’s their home game, and it’s pretty much the same,” Diles said. “So there’s one team that’s really making this derby fill the stands, and, unfortunately, that’s the reality. “You’d like to see more from the opposing team turn up, that’s for sure, to make it even a ******* derby and to create more atmosphere. “But it’s credit for our fans. Whether it’s home or away, our fans turn up in numbers, and that’s what makes this club what it is.” Diles is already turning his focus to next Saturday’s must-win away clash with cellar dwellers Brisbane. Victory sit in a cluster of teams vying for a top-two spot. Leaders Auckland (39 points) are well clear of the chasing pack — Adelaide (31), Victory (29), Western Sydney (28), City (28), Sydney FC (26), Western United (26) and Macarthur (25). The top *********** team will qualify for the Asian Champions League Elite. “That’s great for the league, because it gives everyone the motivation to turn up every weekend,” Diles said. “Not that they don’t. But you know how quickly things can change. You can be playing finals football. You can see you’re a chance to qualify for Asia. There’s a lot of things at stake. “When the competition’s this tight, it’s great for fans and spectators, for the teams as well. It’s always giving you something to play for. “That’s why it’s important that you turn up every week and do the best you can. Don’t look too far ahead and get ready every day for the next battle.” Source link #Victory #coach #Melbourne #derby #City #fans Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  10. AMD appears unlikely to sell reference Radeon RX 9070, RX 9070 XT GPUs AMD appears unlikely to sell reference Radeon RX 9070, RX 9070 XT GPUs AMD will announce the highly anticipated Radeon RX 9070-series graphics cards on February 28, seven days from now, at 8 AM ET via its YouTube channel. Many users are looking forward to this launch, hoping the price-to-performance ratio will be more palatable and readily available for purchase. AMD’s marketing materials have included renders of what many thought would be the reference design for the Radeon RX 9070 or Radeon RX 9070 XT. However, in its latest banner, AMD clarified that the design is an “Artistic Render. Not Available for Purchase,” which implies that the chipmaker will not release any ‘Made by AMD’ (MBA) models this generation. The move may prove to be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, there will be more silicon for AIB partners, but on the other hand, there may not be many options at MSRP. AMD’s partners often offer faster and better-cooled custom variants of the chipmaker’s GPUs. However, some users still prefer the reference models over the custom variants. Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean there won’t be any GPUs with MSRP pricing, as all brands typically have budget-oriented models that prioritize simplicity and pricing over all the bells and whistles. Last month, a Spanish retailer accidentally revealed Gigabyte’s lineup with its pricing, including the 21% VAT applied in Spain. B&H also had a pre-order listing hinting at a launch date on January 23 (later taken down), and Amazon listings showed RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT for $649 and $749. This should be taken with a bag of salt, as it could all be placeholder pricing. Asus showcased Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT variations under Prime and TUF Gaming editions at CES 2025, but no information about the GPUs was revealed. Earlier leaks hinted the RX 9070 series with PCIe 5.0 support, and it was rumored that the RX 9070 XT had 16GB VRAM on a 256-bit interface and 4,096 Stream Processors. AMD Radeon RX 9070 series is based on RDNA 4 architecture, which is said to have optimized compute units with upgraded AI and Ray Tracing accelerators and better media encoding. With the reveal seven days away, we should see its specifications, MSRP pricing, and multiple variations from AIB partners. 11. Nvidia to offer AI trades reality check Nvidia to offer AI trades reality check By Carolina Mandl NEW YORK (Reuters) – Nvidia’s profit report next week could steer the U.S. stock market’s course, as investors seek confirmation that the AI-driven investment trend, which has powered equities for two years, is intact after last month’s panic-selling triggered by the ******** startup DeepSeek. Seen as a bellwether of the burgeoning AI industry, Nvidia is the world’s second most valuable company, with a 6.3% weight on the S&P 500, according to LSEG. Its shares have skyrocketed over 550% over the last two years. A recent stumble, however, came after the ******** startup DeepSeek unveiled a lower-cost AI model that was seen as a threat to the dominance of U.S. rivals, driving Nvidia down roughly 17% on January 27, equivalent to $593 billion – a record one-day market value loss. Shares have almost fully recovered from the tumble and the company said DeepSeek’s advances prove the need for more of its chips, but apprehensive investors fear earnings could revive some market turbulence. “It’s a tough setup going into the conference call next week because there is some anxiety of wanting to kind of call the top on Nvidia. So I would not be surprised to see rotation and fairly violent market reaction under any circumstance,” said Mike Smith, Allspring’s head of growth equity team. He said investors could rotate out of AI trades into sectors such as healthcare, software and financials. Nvidia options imply a 7.7% swing for the shares in either direction following the results, in line with the stock’s average move of 7.6% on the day after results over the last 12 quarters, according to data from options analytics service ORATS. With the AI chipmaker’s market capitalization hovering around $3.4 trillion, the options-implied stock move equates to a market value swing of about $260 billion, roughly the size of Wells Fargo. Nvidia is expected to post on February 26 a fourth-quarter profit of $20.89 billion, driven by a roughly 72% rise in revenues from a year earlier, LSEG data showed. With good fourth-quarter numbers on their way, all eyes will be on the guidance Nvidia provides for both supply and demand for its chips to justify its own rich valuation, as well as the sector’s outlook. Nvidia recently traded at about 32 times forward 12-month earnings estimates, down from about 40 in early November, according to LSEG Datastream. The S&P 500 trades at 22 times forward earnings. “Nvidia is the last piece of the market puzzle right now that might help reset investor sentiment,” said Matt Orton, chief market strategist at Raymond James Investment Management, adding the equities market has performed well despite uncertainties around U.S. tariff and fiscal policy, a drop in retail sales and a hotter-than-expected consumer price index. Story Continues “It can be the catalyst to help the market break out once again,” he said. Markets have changed since the selloff triggered by DeepSeek, as Nvidia has lost a lot of its power to move all stocks since the beginning of this year. The correlation between the chipmaker and the S&P 500 fell to 30% in 2025 from 71% last year, according to Schwab’s calculations. Still it does not mean stocks are bulletproof in case the bellwether Nvidia disappoints. “It’s important to separate the difference between the psychological effects of Nvidia on the market from the statistical effect. To me, it is more of a psychological move,” said Joe Mazzola, Schwab’s head trading and derivatives strategist. Investors will also be watching next week’s release of U.S. inflation numbers for January, especially after data last month showed that inflation increased by the most in eight months in December, amid robust consumer spending on goods and services. Hotter-than-expected inflation data would probably prompt the Fed to wait longer to cut interest rates. RTÉ Harte’s Audi A3 crashed into Mr Keating’s Ford Focus and the 57-year-old died at the scene On the day of the ******, Ciarán Keating and his wife Annemarie, who was also seriously injured in the ******, had been travelling to watch their son play football. The court heard how Harte failed to take a bend on a stretch of the N5 between Swinford and Bohola. Harte’s Audi A3 crashed headlong into Mr Keating’s Ford Focus and the 57-year-old died at the scene. The court was told nobody was speeding during the incident. ‘Shame on everyone involved’ Writing on social media, the singer described the the sentencing as “devastating” and said the Keating family will be “encouraging the DPP to appeal”. “We wonder why we keep seeing this kind of behaviour on our roads, why people keep dying in road accidents across Ireland every week? “It’s a joke and it’s morally corrupt that rather than trying to fix our broken system, they all turn a blind eye. “Shame on Dean Harte but more so, shame on everyone involved in this process that contributed to the heart-breaking outcome for my family. “The Lord himself knows the injustice that was served and the Keating family will never find peace. “We will continue to fight for Ciarán’s justice. At this time we think of all the other families who have found themselves in our position, and we pray that other families never do.” The Keating Family added: “The only way to stop reckless driving and encourage people (especially youth) to abide by the law, is to enforce consequences for not doing so.” Source link #Ronan #Keating #justice #system #broken #fatal #****** Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  15. Game Devs Slam Xbox’s Muse Generative AI: ‘We’re Losing Craft’ Game Devs Slam Xbox’s Muse Generative AI: ‘We’re Losing Craft’ Scissorman1d 23h ago (Edited 1d 23h ago ) Multiple reasons, but the main culprit was the Xbox One era. As Phil Spencer said, it was the worst generation for MS to lose as it was a time when most folks started to build digital libraries. MS didn’t have a remarkable first-party lineup. Titles that may have been interesting such as Scalebound or the Phantom Dust Remake were canceled. Games like RYSE and Crackdown 3 were mediocre at best. Where fans clamored for a new Conker, MS delivered Project Spark. Even games that have since gone on to become successful like Sea of Thieves had a very rocky start, and the incentive to join the Xbox ecosystem wasn’t really there. The focus on Kinect didn’t help either. MS genuinely tried to course correct, and listened, albeit a little bit too closely, to the scores of internet memes and jabs of Xbox having no games…so MS acquired a bunch of studios. While this was a quick remedy to a glaring problem, MS was also heavily marketing Games Pass as well, a service that ostensibly gave its first-party games away for free. This wasn’t enough however, and MS continued to spend its way out of a much larger problem: to purchase publishers to bolster the Game Pass library and attract players to its waning ecosystem. But all of these actions came a little too late. By the time MS was able to really secure a solid pipeline of games to its platforms, the market had already turned its back on Xbox, leaving behind its die-hard fanbase. Without new consumers to sell Xbox consoles to, Game Pass growth remained marginal or flat. MS put itself into a corner, and even worse, it has spent nearly 100 billion dollars in the process, drawing the attention from the higher ups who had by and large ignored the Xbox side of MS. Executives wanted a return on that investment and quickly and likely ordered Xbox to go multiplatform. Without that pivot, Xbox would have collapsed under the weight of its now hefty portfolio. Yes, it’s all dandy to the Game Pass subscriber, who pays $20 a month for scores of first-party titles, indies, and headline grabbing third-party games like say Persona or Yakuza, but the lack of console growth blunted Game Pass growth, a service that needed to grow exponentially in order to cover the development costs of all those first-party titles and third-party deals. MS could have very well been able to compete, but Game Pass really hindered that. It even led to lower software sales for games not included on the service, as subscribers simply hedged their bets and waited for ‘insert game title here’ to eventually end up on Game Pass. That additional 30% cut that MS would have enjoyed from third-party software sales was also dwindling. All of this really created a perfect storm that put MS in the position it is now. This is why I don’t buy the PR talk of this being somehow being better for the industry, or they Sony needs to follow suit, or that MS is somehow doing Sony a favor by going multiplatform. It’s all designed to manufacture consent, to convince the fanbase that this is a good thing, that it will be better for them as well. When in reality, MS is not longer making decisions with its install base in mind. The hostages included three Israeli men seized from the Nova music festival and another taken while visiting family in southern Israel when ******-led militants stormed the border in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack that triggered Israel’s 16-month military campaign in Gaza. The two other hostages were held for a decade after entering Gaza on their own. Five were handed over in staged ceremonies that the Red Cross and Israel have condemned as cruel and disrespectful, escorted by masked, armed ****** fighters in front of hundreds of Palestinians. 17. Obsidian Entertainment Is Reportedly Happy With The Current Sales Progress Of Avowed Obsidian Entertainment Is Reportedly Happy With The Current Sales Progress Of Avowed LonDonE12h ago(Edited 12h ago) @Gamingsince1981 Dude dont assume, not everyone licks tods Howards *****.. every game has its good points and its bad.. i am 40 plus and started gaming on a Sinclair and atari.. do the math. Everyone cuts Bethesda so much slack and it needs to stop.. look where that got us with starfield, granted its a good game just not great like we all expect. While avowed is not as BIG as elder scrolls games its not trying to be, so much in those games just does not need to be there and maybe if they cut some of that excessive crap we would get a game launched day one which is actually playable. Starfield was again buggy and bethesda never learn because of fanboys who just fanboy over them and gloss over the short comings. Anyone who has played obsidian games knows these guys love todd howard games and so try to emulate it but with there own spin on it. Nobody wants a carbon copy cat, the games industry has always been about iterating on what works and is good and cutting away what is not needed. Obsidian at least launch games which are playable, hell i still remember the crap i had to do just to play skyrim on my ps3… what a joke it was. People making stupid videos about arrows being shot up into the air and not falling down, or how pointless plates and cups cant be pushed off the tables is just stupid. This is not elder scrolls.. its something different which borrows some parts of elder scrolls and some not so much as i said in my original comment. I admit when i saw footage of this game originally it did look cookie cutter to me, but now playing it i am enjoying it a lot. Its a more an Action game with rpg elements.. like 99% of games made today. Video games just cost too much money and sadly due to how toxic gamers are these days more and devs are going under and we are getting much less risky new ideas or games. My criticism with avowed would be all the woke crap being rammed down our throats, i see it everywhere now even in adds. I wont lie, reading todays article about how the new game will have ships and sailing etc has me nervous now. I just want an upgraded oblivion and Skyrim which has EVERY mechanic iterated to perfection and a bug free experience which i know will never happen due to the scope of elder scrolls games but i would much prefer they cut some of the pointless crap if it meant a more stable engine and game. Avowed is a great game and should be enjoyed by gamers as a game which pays homage to one of the great Bethesda ips, just like outer worlds pays homage to fallout. But when people compare the franchises and criticize it for stupid ISH, its pointless. and Dont IDOL worship and cut Bethesda so much slack, i love all there games just like you but want them to do better Play avowed and tell me the combat system is bad.. its the next evolution for elder scrolls combat done right.. the swordplay, the mage combat, the parkour, the world, the story all are great. Give it a chance and stop looking at it as a elder scrolls game and so critique the crap out of it, play it as its own game which borrows heavily some parts of elder scrolls and enjoy it for what it is. Or don’t, but this 1 star review bombing a game needs to stop by delusional fanboys. Most of them probably just created a fake email and bought game pass for £1 and then downloaded the game on there ******* work laptop and then review bombed it. Thats sad and pathetic, dont like the game, MOVE ALONG.. and let others who do own and play on every platform enjoy it. 18. Ireland beat Wales to win Six Nations triple crown Ireland beat Wales to win Six Nations triple crown Wales have slipped to a 15th straight defeat in a 27-18 home loss to Six Nations champions Ireland, but the hosts played with endeavour and ambition not seen in recent games. The improved Wales effort, though, still couldn’t stop Ireland securing the ‘triple crown’ with victories over all three of the British Isles nations and topping the table with 14 points from three matches. Wales are bottom of the standings with one point, but interim coach Matt Sherratt, who’s taken over from Warren Gatland, can have few complaints over the performance of his side on Saturday. Ireland, who lost centre Garry Ringrose to a 20-minute red card in the first half, were under pressure for much of the game, especially in the scrum. But their defence was excellent and they scored tries through No.8 Jack Conan and fullback Jamie Osborne, before the boot of flyhalf Sam Prendergast carried them to victory. Wales were vastly improved from the side who slipped to dour defeats under Gatland, and scored tries through flanker Jac Morgan and winger Tom Rogers, before falling short of what would have been a sensational victory. “That was exactly what we expected coming to Cardiff, it was a proper Test match,” Ireland captain Dan Sheehan said. “We said all week that Wales will have their moments of strength and we have to stick to what we do, stay calm and not panic, and that is what we did. “We rely heavily on our bench, they came on and made a huge impact to lift the boys with huge energy.” The Wales players looked as though a weight had been lifted off their shoulders as they played with invention and the freedom to run the ball at every opportunity. Ireland took an early lead thanks to a try from Conan, but Wales settled into the game and put pressure on the visitors. Four scrum penalties and the red card for Ringrose helped their cause and having trailed by 10 points, Wales led 13-10 at halftime. Ringrose received a yellow card, later upgraded to red on bunker review, for a dangerous tackle on Wales centre Ben Thomas that resulted in head-on-head contact. Wales took the lead on the stroke of halftime when Morgan burrowed his way over the tryline under a pile of bodies. The home side extended their lead early in the second ******* as they made their numerical advantage count when Rogers dotted down in the corner with a spectacular flying finish. Ireland landed a penalty before Bundee Aki came on at the completion of the 20-minute red card and the visitors were restored to 15 players. They scored a super second try as a cross-kick to the corner was athletically tapped back by winger James Lowe into the hands of Osborne who levelled the game at 18-18. Trailing by six points, Wales thought they had scored a late try through winger Ellis Mee that was chalked off by the Television Match Official for a knock-on, and the unerring boot of Prendergast kept Ireland ticking over on the scoreboard. 20. How to Create a 3D Printing Timelapse How to Create a 3D Printing Timelapse A 3D printing timelapse reduces hours of printing into a few minutes or seconds, and you watch the print gradually take shape layer by layer; it’s like the layers are growing out of the print bed. This is a satisfying and enjoyable process and they are perfect for sharing on social media to showcase your project. Creating a 3D printing timelapse is not as difficult as it might seem, but it does require some preparation and the right tools. You need to have any of the best 3D printers and a few other things, which we have listed below. What You Need to Create a 3D Printing Timelapse Besides a 3D printer and a filament, you also need the following to create a 3D printing timelapse. 1. A Raspberry Pi: We will use Raspberry Pi 5 in this article. You can buy the kit on Amazon which comes with the Raspberry Pi, MicroSD card, power supply, and Micro HDMI. If you don’t have a Raspberry Pi, we shall also show you how to create timelapses using Cura’s timelapse plugin. 2. Camera: You can use a standard DSLR, smartphone camera, Raspberry Pi camera, or a webcam. When choosing a camera, consider the resolution, image quality, and mounting options. If you are using a DSLR camera or your smartphone, you must also have a stand. 3. Octolapse: Octoprint plugin that allows you to create timelapses. 4. Remote camera shutter: To trigger the camera to take pictures. Once you have the above components, follow the steps below. Get Tom’s Hardware’s best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox. 1. Prepare Your Environment Prepare Your Environment Ensure you place your 3D printer where there is good and consistent lighting to help enhance the quality of the final video. Avoid flickering or changing light sources, and ensure the light evenly illuminates the build area and should not be too low or too bright. In addition to lighting, the 3D printer should be on a stable surface to minimize vibrations that can affect the camera’s focus. You should also position your camera to capture the entire print without having some areas cut. This is important, especially if you are printing large or tall objects. You can also consider using a 3D printer enclosure. If you use a webcam that doesn’t have a stand, you need to 3D print one. T-slot V-slot Universal camera mount designed by RaffoSan is a great option to download and 3D print. It also supports a wide variety of webcams and Raspberry Pi Cameras. Flexible webcam mount by TeachingTech is also a great option that you can 3D print. It suits most 3D printers and cameras. 2. Create a Timelapse Using Octolapse, Raspberry Pi Camera, or Webcam Create a Timelapse Using Octolapse, Raspberry Pi Camera, or Webcam Octolapse is a plugin for OctoPrint and it has been designed purposely for creating timelapse videos of your 3D prints. It works by synchronizing each photo with each layer change, ensuring the print stays at the center and it removes any movement between the frames, ensuring the final video generated looks like it magically appears layer by layer. The Raspberry Pi camera comes in several versions, and any of them can help you create timelapses. But you need to invest in a longer cable as the one that comes with the camera is too short. You can get one on Amazon for $6. Webcams come in different types, and you can buy one on Amazon. Let’s now get to the step-by-step process. 1. Download and install Raspberry Pi Imager to your computer. It’s available for Windows, MacOS, and Linux. You can also check out our article on setting up a Raspberry Pi for the first time. 2. Insert an SD card on your computer. 3. Choose your device in the Raspberry Pi Device section. For my case, I will choose Raspberry Pi 5. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 4. Go to Choose OS section and click Other specific-purpose OS. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 5. Go to 3D printing > OctoPi. You will be able to access the latest version of OctoPi. In my case, I didn’t find it as I am using Raspberry Pi 5 and currently, it’s not supported and one needs to install it manually instead. But if you are using other models, you should be able to access it. If you are using other Raspberry Pi models, follow the next steps. 6. Click OctoPi, then either choose the stable version or the new version with AI camera functionalities. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 7. Choose your storage, then click NEXT. 8. Choose whether to Edit settings or continue with the default in the new window that launches. You should edit the settings to add the system password and Wifi settings. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 8. Click EDIT SETTINGS, then set up username and password and Wifi settings, then click Save. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) You will then see a window asking you whether to apply the OS customization settings or not. Choose YES. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) All the data in the SD card will be erased when you proceed. Writing OctoPi will take a few minutes and once complete, OctoPrint and its necessary dependencies will be installed. 9. Click Continue then remove the SD card from your computer. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Installing OctoPrint on Raspberry Pi 5 Installing OctoPrint on Raspberry Pi 5 Currently, there is no stable Octopi distro for Raspberry Pi 5, so you need to use Octoprint_deploy to install it. Octoprint_deploy is a script that provides an easy way to deploy multiple instances of OctoPrint on a single device. Octoprint is intended for managing a single printer in one device, but with this script, you can control several 3D printers from a single machine. You can find more details on the script on GitHub. Follow the steps below to learn how to install OctoPrint on Raspberry Pi 5 using Octoprint_deploy. 1. Install the latest Raspberry Pi OS on your device. The latest version is based on Debiant 12 ‘Bookworm’. It was released in November 2024. 2. Access the Octoprint_deploy script from GitHub. 3. Clone octoprint_deploy script by running the command git clone [Hidden Content]. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 4. Run the command sudo octoprint_deploy/octoprint_deploy.sh. You can either choose to install one or all or quit and then proceed. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The one that we want is Octolapse. So after installing the above necessary options, we shall later install it individually. 12. You can go ahead and add other instances, USB camera, add picam, delete an instance and even check an instance status, sync users, do USB port testing, and other activities in the Utilities option. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 13. Also, choose option 3 to install a USB or DSLR camera settings or option 4 if you are using a Raspberry Pi Camera. We have now successfully Octoprint on the Raspberry Pi 5 and camera settings. How to Access OctoPrint on the Web Browser How to Access OctoPrint on the Web Browser The next step will be to access OctoPrint on the web to install the Octolapse plugin that we shall use to create time lapses. To do this, follow the steps below. 1. Ensure your Raspberry Pi is connected to your local network. 2. Find your Raspberry Pi’s IP address to connect to the web. You can do this by typing the command hostname -I, and the IP address will be displayed. Mine is 192.168.1.2. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Alternatively, you can hover your mouse on the Wifi icon, and it will display the address. 3. Open any browser on a device connected to the same network as your Raspberry Pi. 4. Type the Raspberry Pi’s IP address followed by port 5000. For example, [Hidden Content]. You will see a page launching where you can log in using the username and password you set up earlier when installing OctoPrint. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 5. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 10. Restart Octoprint for the changes to take effect. 11. Go back to the settings menu and click Octoplase under plugins. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 12. Create a 3D printer profile before starting a timelapse. You can do this by clicking Add Profile on the Printer section and add your details. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) You should now be able to see and control your 3D printer on OctoPrint. Try to move the X, Y, and Z axis to make sure your 3D printer responds. If it’s not responding, ensure it’s connected at the left side of the interface in the Connection section. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 13. Go to Octolapse, and then you choose the camera to use and how it will be triggered. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 14. Ensure that you enable test mode before you start Octolapse. This is important as it will help you prevent extrusion, allowing you to do the testing without wasting filament. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) When 3D printing, you can check snapshots in the videos and images section. 15. Upload your file from the left section of the interface by clicking Upload. 16. Click Print to start 3D printing. Then go to Timelapse section to see your timelapses. Ensure in the Trigger section, you use one of the Smart triggers so that you can see the snapshots in real-time. You can stop Octolapse without stopping the 3D printing process if anything goes wrong. After creating the timelapse, there is an option to preview, delete, and even download them. Using a DSLR Camera to Create Timelapses Using a DSLR Camera to Create Timelapses If you have already installed OctoPrint and Octolapse and you had not installed camera dependencies during the installation process, follow the steps below: 1. Set up your DSLR camera on a tripod stand. Ensure it’s stable and pointed at your 3D printer in a way that captures the print from the desired angle. 2. Connect the camera to your Raspberry Pi using a USB cable. You will then need Gphoto2 to control the camera. Alternatively, you can also connect Raspberry Pi using a remote shutter trigger. 3. Install gphoto2 by first running the command sudo apt update. 4. Run the command sudo apt-get install gphoto2. This will enable you to trigger the camera. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 5. Accept to continue by typing Y, then click enter, and it will start processing the triggers. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 6. Confirm it’s installed by typing the command gphoto2 then enter. It should give you a list of many ways to use it. 7. Check if your camera is detected using the command gphoto2 – -auto-detect, which should give you a few details about your camera. Also, check out the list of cameras supported by gphoto2 to see if yours is listed. 6. Configure Octolapse to use your DSLR by clicking on the wrench icon to open the settings, then go to the Plugin Manager > Get More and search for the GCode System command and install it. It helps enter G-code commands and execute them. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 7. Restart OctoPrint then go to the settings section and choose GCODE System Commands then click the plus sign to add a new command then type gphoto2 –auto-detect –set-config capturetarget=1 –trigger-capture, then save. 8. Go to the terminal tab on Octoprint once your camera is on and your 3D printer is connected, then ensure it’s working. You can do this by sending a command like OCTO1. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 9. Upload your file and start taking timelapses. How to Create a 3D Printing Timelapse Using Cura and a DLSR Camera How to Create a 3D Printing Timelapse Using Cura and a DLSR Camera This is one of the simplest ways that you can use to create 3D printing timelapses. It involves capturing images or video frames at specific intervals throughout the 3D printing process and then compiling them into one quick video showcasing the progress of the print from start to finish. You don’t need to use a Raspberry Pi or Octoprint. You only need a camera and stand, camera trigger, and Cura plugin for creating timelapses. Follow the steps below to learn how to do it. 1. Download the files for the remote trigger for the camera to 3D print. You can get them from Myminifactory. This is used to hold the remote shutter. You can buy the remote shutter from Amazon. 2. 3D print the camera trigger with additional supports, then attach them to your 3D printer and place the remote shutter on it. 3. Download Custom timelapse Cura plugin from Github. 4. Go to Cura, then Help > Show Configuration Folder. 5. Find the Cura Script folder, place the timelapse plugin there, and restart Cura. Alternatively, you can also use the Cura built-in timelapse plugin. Check the next step to install it. 6. Go to Extensions > Post Processing > Modify G-Code in Cura. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 7. Click Add a script, then select Time Lapse Camera (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 8. Retain the default settings in the window that launches. But you can adjust how often layers are captured in the How often (layers) section, then click Close. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 9. Home your 3D printer, then move the X axis until it touches the trigger you installed earlier. 10. Import your 3D model to Cura, then slice. You should see a notification below the interface showing that the timelapse script is active. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) If you were using the custom plugin downloaded from Myminifactory, you can access it in the plugins section, too, and you will be given the option to modify it. 11. Start 3D printing and recording your timelapses. When you finish, import images or videos to an editing software like Adobe Premier Pro and adjust the speed and other effects before exporting it. You can also use a phone or iPad camera with Cura to create timelapses. You will need to use a remote camera shutter specifically for phones like the remote shutter for Android and iPhone. Properly mount it to your 3D printer. If you use an iPad or iPhone, you can download and 3D print a Timelapse iPad clamp to properly mount the camera shutter. It is specifically meant for Ender 3 V2 but can also work on other 3D printers with a few adjustments. Source link #Create #Printing #Timelapse Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  21. Botswana flash floods kill seven, displace thousands Botswana flash floods kill seven, displace thousands Flash floods across Botswana have killed seven people including three children and uprooted thousands after days of heavy rains, President Duma Boko said. Authorities have temporarily shut schools and blocked roads following more than a week of downpours. “We will continue to work in the short term to mitigate further losses,” Boko said in a televised address on Saturday, as over 1700 people were evacuated from flood-stricken areas. In the capital Gabarone, where the local dam was overflowing, cars were washed away and properties waterlogged as emergency workers braced for more rain in coming days. Disaster management officials suggested that inadequate drainage in urban areas may have contributed to water building up in some of the worst hit low-lying areas. “We must relook at our infrastructure planning to determine that indeed our infrastructure on a national level can handle droughts as well as floods,” Boko said. 22. Married women could face new obstacles to vote. This is what conservatives want. Married women could face new obstacles to vote. This is what conservatives want. Despite a lifetime of having my last name pronounced incorrectly, I am in the ********* of heterosexual women who chose to keep my maiden name when I got married. It was less of a feminist act and more that, by the time I got married, I was in my mid-30s and had an established public-facing career. It felt weird to be that late in life and adopt, let alone publicize, a new identity. My husband didn’t care one way or another, so I saved myself from the painstaking paperwork of changing my last name. What I didn’t realize was that I might have also saved myself from being disenfranchised. SAVE Act threatens to disenfranchise married women The SAVE Act would require Americans to provide a birth certificate, passport or some other gold-tier citizenship document every time they register to vote. This could exclude up to 69 million married American women whose legal name does not match that of her birth certificate. Congressional Republicans are fast-tracking the SAVE Act, a bill that requires Americans to provide a birth certificate, passport or some other gold-tier citizenship document every time they register to vote – all under the guise of ensuring that only U.S. citizens are voting. If you’re thinking, “Wait, isn’t it already ******** for noncitizens to vote?” – yes, yes it is. And if you’re wondering how often this actually happens, it’s about as common as flamingos in Wisconsin. It happened once, but definitely not a trend. Per the Brennan Center for Justice, a retrospective of the 2016 election found improper noncitizen votes accounted for 0.0001% of the 23.5 million votes cast across the 42 jurisdictions they surveyed. But sure, let’s make it harder for actual citizens to vote. Opinion: Donald Trump is dismantling election safeguards while musing about a third term This legislation is intended to make it more difficult for most eligible American citizens to register and cast a ballot. And as you’d expect, voting and civil rights activists are sounding alarms. But who does this bill hurt the most? The 8 in 10 married women who changed their surname after marriage. Because the bill fixates on birth certificates matching voter registrations but doesn’t consider marriage certificates as proof of identity. According to the Center for American Progress, this could exclude upwards of 69 million married American women whose legal name does not match that of her birth certificate. For the millions of married women who don’t have a passport, they would need to hunt down their birth certificate, marriage license and ID, then show up in person just to update their voter registration. I don’t even know where my birth certificate is. Do you? And guess which states have the fewest passports and the most married name-changers? Deep red states. So yes, this could disproportionately disenfranchise Republican women. But I don’t want any woman disenfranchised, because women’s suffrage is a slippery slope. Conservatives who believe women shouldn’t have the right to vote A mural honors women voters on Oct. 14, 2024, in Erie, Pa. Yes, the slope of a woman’s right to vote. The bill’s author, Rep. Chip Roy R-Texas, might have made a statement characterizing these concerns as “absurd armchair speculation,” but the lack of nuance in this bill feels like a nod to the folks who would like to see the 19th Amendment repealed. This isn’t just some conspiracy theory. Plenty of conservatives have openly said that they don’t think women should vote: Remember when people told us we were crazy for saying Roe v. Wade could be overturned? That it would never happen? That we were being hysterical? Now we have a bill that – whether by incompetence or design – could make voting much harder for millions of women. But sure, let’s pretend the rollbacks stop here. It’s not like an entire political faction in our body politic is openly nostalgic for the days before women could vote. Opinion: Musk is the little ****** on Trump’s shoulder daring him to break the law Every time I hear someone say, “Oh, that could never happen here,” I think about that photo – the one of Afghan women in the ‘70s wearing miniskirts and studying medicine. Before religious fundamentalists took over and erased their rights. Losing rights doesn’t happen in one big, dramatic moment. It happens in a slow drip of bad policies, restrictive laws and people not taking the threat seriously until it’s too late. If you don’t know where your birth certificate is, you might want to find it. Because apparently, that – not your decades of tax returns, Social Security number or literal existence as a person – is what the SAVE Act says proves you’re an American. And if this passes, I hope you really love your last name. Because changing it could cost you more than just paperwork. 25. Brazil topple Aussie rugby women in sevens sensation Brazil topple Aussie rugby women in sevens sensation Australia’s powerhouse women’s rugby sevens team have been left stunned at being on the wrong end of one of the game’s great shocks after losing to unheralded Brazil on the first day of the Vancouver Sevens. In what was their first win ever over one of the traditional rugby powers, the ecstatic Brazilians could hardly believe what they’d achieved in their group match on Friday night as they roared back from a 12-0 deficit at halftime to eke out a memorable 14-12 triumph. “It’s really hard to find some words to describe what we are feeling because for us it’s a really big challenge to compete against the top teams,” veteran Brazilian forward Raquel Kochhann said. “In Brazil, rugby is not a popular sport so we fight a lot in our country to have some spots and show the world that Brazil is more than just football. “So for us, this is a really, really big day to show the whole world and Brazilians that Brazil rugby is a great team and it’s growing to fight some of the top teams.” The World Cup and world series champions were without the best sevens player in the women’s game, as Maddison Levi was sidelined following surgery on her thumb. Still, it was nothing short of astonishing that the ever-improving Brazilians, down at half-time to scores from Teagan Levi and Faith Nathan, could fight back with two tries in three minutes from Yasmin Soares giving them the lead with less than two minutes remaining. Then the key moment came when Mackenzie Davis looked to be powering to the line to earn the Aussies a last-gasp win, only to be chased down by the lion-hearted speedster Thalia Costa, who tackled her metres before the line and got to her feet to win the Brazilians the decisive penalty. “We work all together – when the ball is alive we keep fighting,” said the proud 32-year-old Kochhann. The historic win hasn’t completely derailed the *********** women, who had earlier beaten Spain 42-0 with a couple of tries for Nathan and other scores from Isabella Nasser, Kiiahla Duff, Ruby Nicholas and Davis. They’ll now play Canada on Saturday (Sunday morning AEDT) in their final group game as they aim at a quarter-final place. The *********** men’s side also had a mixed opening day, defeating Ireland 17-7 with Matt Gonzalez, Hayden Sargeant and James Turner all going over for tries, before they then lost by the same scoreline to New Zealand, with Michael Icely their try scorer.
