Musk orders US federal workers to report on work or get fired
Musk orders US federal workers to report on work or get fired
By Valerie Volcovici
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Elon Musk, the billionaire head of the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency, threatened on Saturday to fire any federal worker who fails to explain what work they have accomplished during the previous week.
The threat, issued in a post on the social media site X, was made just hours after President Donald Trump posted on his own social media network Truth Social that DOGE should get more aggressive in its attempts to downsize and reshape the federal workforce.
Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox
See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories.
“All federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week,” Musk posted on X. “Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”
As of Saturday evening, emails were sent to employees at federal agencies including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and others with the subject line “What did you do last week?”
The email, seen by Reuters, asks employees to reply to the email they have received with five bullet points summarizing “what you accomplished at work last week” and copy their managers.
The email gives employees until 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday to respond.
It is unclear what legal basis Musk has to terminate federal workers if they fail to respond to his request.
The Trump administration’s fast-paced and controversial process to reduce government spending by shrinking the federal workforce led by Musk and his young aides at the cost-cutting DOGE has led to haphazard firings that resulted in numerous mistakes and forced several agencies to quickly rehire vital employees, such as those working on nuclear safety, defense and power generation.
The first wave of job cuts has targeted workers who are easier to fire, such as “probationary” employees on the job for less than two years or those who have started new roles within an agency.
The indiscriminate firings have led to DOGE terminating people whose jobs are not funded by taxpayers and have begun to anger people across the country who are concerned about a loss of services as well as the impact of federal job losses on local economies.
Trump has repeatedly talked about Musk as the functional leader of DOGE, which is not a cabinet-level department, but the White House said in a court filing earlier this month that Musk had no authority over DOGE and was not an employee of the program.

Lautaro gives Inter Milan provisional lead in Serie A
Lautaro gives Inter Milan provisional lead in Serie A
Lautaro Martinez has scored late as Inter Milan beat Genoa 1-0 to take the provisional lead in Serie A.
Lautaro met a corner with a header that deflected off a defender’s chest before going in to break a deadlock at the San Siro.
The Argentina striker then climbed up on a security fence to celebrate with Inter’s fans on the other side.
Inter moved one point ahead of Antonio Conte’s Napoli, who can reclaim the lead with a win at Como on Sunday.
Next weekend, Inter visit Napoli.
Four days after being eliminated from the Champions League, AC Milan dropped further into crisis with an error-strewn 2-1 loss at Torino.
The mistakes started with an own goal from Malick Thiaw five minutes in when a clearance from Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan ricocheted off his own defender into the net.
Christian Pulisic then failed to convert a penalty for the first time in his career when Torino goalkeeper Sergej Milinkovic-Savic lunged to his right to push away the American’s low spot kick.
Milinkovic-Savic has saved four of the five penalties he’s faced this season.
After a shot from Milan’s Joao Felix hit the post, the Rossoneri equalised with a shot from Tijjani Reijnders in the 74th.
But Torino reclaimed the lead two minutes later with a quick shot from Gvidas Gineitis following a free kick that seemed to surprise Milan.
Milan remained seventh while Torino moved up to 11th.
Milan were eliminated from the Champions League by Feyenoord on 2-1 aggregate on Tuesday.
Earlier, Parma coach Cristian Chivu had a successful debut with a 2-0 win over regional rivals Bologna; and fourth-place Lazio were held to a 0-0 draw at relegation-threatened Venezia.

About 900 jobs to be created in Mesa County
About 900 jobs to be created in Mesa County
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — A collaborative effort between the Grand Junction Economic Partnership and other Colorado agencies will bring a mining industry hub to Grand Junction.
Morgan Mining will make a new complex on 32 Road, where the old Halliburton plant used to be in Clifton.
Here’s what Grand Junction Economic Partnership Executive Director Curtis Englehart said what might’ve swayed them to come to Grand Junction instead of their other option: Knoxville, Tennessee.
“There was multiple things in my opinion that tipped the scale for them,” said Englehart. “We do have a rich history in the mining and oil and gas industry in our community… we’ve had great buy in from the community.”
Overall, the project should create just short of 900 jobs in Grand Junction over an eight-year *******, and those jobs come with an aveage wage of a little over $92,000 annually.
That wage is 167 percent of the average annual wage in Mesa County, so it should be enough to live comfortably.
Englehart also said that the mining campus will serve as a central command for operations in Western Colorado.
“It’ll be more of a hub in Mesa County, an energy hub, so to speak,” Englehart said. “They will have crews that will be assigned to projects that are outside of the area, they will have a maintenance line as well, so where they’re maintaining equipment and whatever that looks like from a workforce standpoint, they’ll have management and leadership positions as well. It really is a hub for the energy industry.”

Trump-Putin summit preparations underway, Russia says as U.S. offers U.N. resolution on war
Trump-Putin summit preparations underway, Russia says as U.S. offers U.N. resolution on war
Preparations are underway for a face-to-face meeting between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia’s deputy foreign minister told state media on Saturday.
Sergei Ryabkov said a possible Putin-Trump summit – which would be a clear departure from Western efforts to isolate Moscow over its war in Ukraine – could involve broad talks on global issues, not just the ongoing war.
“The question is about starting to move toward normalizing relations between our countries, finding ways to resolve the most acute and potentially very, very dangerous situations, of which there are many, Ukraine among them,” he said.
But he said efforts to organize such a meeting are at an early stage, and that making it happen will require “the most intensive preparatory work.”
Ryabkov added that U.S. and Russian envoys could meet within the next two weeks to pave the way for further talks among senior officials.
CBS News has reached out to the White House for comment on any possible meeting between the two leaders.
Ryabkov’s comments come days after Russian and U.S. representatives – including Secretary of State Marco Rubio – met in Saudi Arabia where they agreed to start working toward ending the war in Ukraine and improving their diplomatic and economic ties.
Senior U.S. officials have suggested Ukraine will have to give up its goals of joining NATO and retaining the 20% of its territory seized by Russia.
United States and Russian representatives met in Saudi Arabia where they agreed to start working toward ending the war in Ukraine and improving hir diplomatic and economic ties.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said the U.S. and Russian delegations had agreed to establish a “consultation mechanism to address irritants to our bilateral relationship,” and Rubio told reporters that would include a re-staffing of the two nations’ respective embassies.
“We’re going to need to have vibrant diplomatic missions that are able to function normally in order to be able to continue these conduits,” he said.
No Ukrainian officials were present at the Saudi meeting, which came as their beleaguered country is slowly but steadily losing ground against more numerous Russian troops, nearly three years after Moscow launched an all-out invasion of its small neighbor.
On Saturday, during remarks at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference, held in suburban Maryland, Mr. Trump said he believes the war in Ukraine will end soon.
“I’ve spoken to President Putin, and I think that thing is going to end. It’s got to end,” he said, referencing his talk with Putin earlier this month. “It’s a horrible, horrible thing to watch. I’m dealing with President Zelensky. I’m dealing with President Putin.”
Mr. Trump also said he wants Ukraine to “give something up” for additional aid.
“I want them to give us something for all of the money that we put up. And I’m going to try and get the war settled, and I’m going to try and get all that death ended,” he said at CPAC. “So we’re asking for rare earth and oil, anything we can get.”
Following Mr. Trump’s CPAC address, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters regarding negotiations that the “president is very confident we can get it done this week.”
Leavitt added that Mr. Trump is “going to be working around the clock all weekend to get a deal and end this conflict in Ukraine.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his country would not accept any outcome from the talks since Kyiv didn’t take part, and he postponed his own trip to Saudi Arabia scheduled for last Wednesday. European allies have also expressed concerns that they are being sidelined.
Zelenskyy is “not ready” to sign a minerals deal with the U.S., a source told AFP on Saturday, despite growing pressure from U.S. officials. Ukraine wants any agreement signed with the U.S. to include security guarantees.
“In the form in which the draft is now, the president is not ready to accept, we are still trying to make changes and add constructiveness,” the source close to the matter said.
Rubio on Friday spoke with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha to reaffirm Mr. Trump’s commitment to ending the conflict in Ukraine, including through “effective action in the United States Security Council,” Bruce said in a statement.
“This call is the latest in multiple high-level engagements between U.S. and Ukrainian leaders to achieve a durable peace,” she added.
U.S. offers United Nations resolution on war
The U.S. offered a draft U.N. resolution that stops far short of a competing European-backed statement demanding an immediate withdrawal of all of Moscow’s forces from Ukraine.
Both are timed to the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which falls on Monday, when the General Assembly will vote on the nonbinding resolutions.
The short U.S. draft resolution acknowledges “the tragic loss of life throughout the Russia-Ukraine conflict” and “implores a swift end to the conflict and further urges a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.”
Rubio, in a statement late Friday, said the U.S. believes “this is the moment to commit to ending the war. This is our opportunity to build real momentum toward peace.” He said that “while challenges may arise, the goal of lasting peace remains achievable” and that with the resolution, “we affirm that this conflict is awful, that the U.N. can help end it, and that peace is possible.”
By contrast, the draft resolution from the European Union and Ukraine refers to “the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation” and recalls the need to implement all previous assembly resolutions “adopted in response to the aggression against Ukraine.”
The General Assembly has become the most important U.N. body dealing with Ukraine because the Security Council, which is charged with maintaining international peace and security, is paralyzed by Russia’s veto power.
There are no vetoes in the General Assembly, but its resolutions are not legally binding, unlike Security Council actions. Nonetheless, assembly resolutions are closely watched as a barometer of world opinion.

Starting in 2025, no NFL games will be exclusively broadcast on traditional TV
Starting in 2025, no NFL games will be exclusively broadcast on traditional TV
The pivot to the streaming of NFL games includes ensuring that all NFL games will stream.
As explained by Tyler Aquilina of Variety.com, via Sports Business Daily, no NFL game will be exclusively available on streaming in 2025. Which means all games will be available through streaming.
And it means, per the report, that viewers within a given locale who are able to watch games that are otherwise available on “free TV” will be able to stream games without paying for a streaming service.
Thanks to geolocation technology, it’s easy to allow people in a certain area to have free access to the games, through their phones or smart TVs.
And while on one hand the move represents further progress in streaming, on the other hand it erodes the potency of broadcast TV. And it speaks to a future potential model, if/when the league fully pivots to streaming and cuts out the traditional networks.
In lieu of the games in a local market being available for free through the traditional airwaves captured by a television antenna, they’ll be available for free on the apps corresponding with the content provider.
And so, just as current viewers in a given market need to have only a TV (and a way to catch the signal) to watch local games for free, future viewers will only need to have a cell phone device. Or a TV and a WiFi signal.

Police officer killed, 5 others wounded after gunman holds Pennsylvania hospital staff hostage and opens fire, officials say
Police officer killed, 5 others wounded after gunman holds Pennsylvania hospital staff hostage and opens fire, officials say
A police officer was killed and five other people were wounded when a man took medical staff hostage and opened fire at a York, Pennsylvania, hospital on Saturday morning, officials said.
The gunman, identified by authorities as Diogenes Archangel Ortiz, 49, was also killed, authorities said. UPMC Memorial confirmed his death in a statement on Facebook.
Two other law enforcement officers were shot by the gunman and are in stable condition, York County District Attorney Tim Barker said at an afternoon news conference.
Ortiz was holding an ICU employee hostage at gunpoint when officers engaged the suspect, Barker said.
An intensive care unit doctor, nurse and a custodian suffered gunshot wounds and a fourth employee was injured in a fall, Barker said.
“No patients have been injured. The hospital is now secure,” Susan Manko, spokesperson for UPMC Memorial in York, told CNN.
The threat has “been neutralized and an investigation is underway,” Ted Czech, a public information officer at York County’s Office of Emergency Management, told CNN.
The officer who died was Andrew Duarte, his department confirmed on Facebook.
Law enforcement officers are at the scene, Manko said, adding families of patients arriving to the hospital are being guided to the parking lot of the building across the street.
Betsy Small was visiting her mother at the hospital around 10:30 a.m. when she started to hear “strange noises, a lot of activity, and then alarms going off.”
When she looked out the window, people were running, she said, and a woman announced something about a “lockdown” over the intercom system.
“I thought, oh something’s going on in here, but you never think it’s going to be a shooting, not in a hospital,” Small, 58, told CNN.
When the alarms went off, Small said she believes her hospital room door locked. She crouched down on the floor near the window for safety, her mother fast asleep in her hospital bed throughout all the commotion.
Within minutes, three or four police cars had arrived and officers were running into the building with shields and guns, she said she saw through the hospital room window.
For the next hour or so, Small watched through the hospital door window as nurses ran back and forth on her floor while yelling at one another.
At 11:41 a.m., her daughter texted her that a shooter “had been taken out.”
As of 3 p.m., Small was not yet allowed to leave the building and said she has seen some of the nurses crying with one another in the hallway.
“I feel sad for everybody, honestly I do. It’s a sad situation,” Small said.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has been “briefed on the tragic shooting” and is on his way to the scene, he said in a statement on X.
“The hospital is now secure and members of the (Pennsylvania State Police) and (Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency) are on the ground responding alongside our local and federal partners,” Shapiro wrote.
“Follow the direction of local authorities and stay clear of the area.”
Pennsylvania state Sen. Dawn Keefer and state Rep. Seth Grove said in a joint statement they are praying for “those who were injured and for the loved ones’ coping with an unthinkable act.”
“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and all those affected by this senseless act of violence,” Keefer and Grove said, thanking first responders “for their swift actions in securing the scene, treating the wounded and ensuring the safety of our community.”
UPMC Memorial, a 104-bed hospital, opened in August 2019 and provides emergency medical care, cardiology and vascular services, chronic disease management, and surgical services. York is located in southern Pennsylvania.
CNN’s Kia Fatahi, Sharif Paget, Taylor Galgano and Natalie Barr contributed to this report.
This is a developing story and will be updated.

An XR game trilogy based on Neon Genesis Evangelion is in the works
South Korean game development studio Pixelity says it’s working on a series of XR games based on Neon Genesis Evangelion, and the first one will be released next year. In an emailed announcement, the studio said it’s planning a trilogy “based on the world and events of all 26 episodes” of the beloved anime.
We don’t have much in the way of details just yet, but Pixelity says, “Players will experience the narrative through the eyes of an original character, exploring the world of Neon Genesis Evangelion, taking on quests, and engaging in thrilling battles — all while following the timeline and key events of the anime.” The trilogy will offer “interactive and cooperative gameplay with familiar characters.” The developer hasn’t revealed what platforms the games will be available on.

Aston Villa 2-1 Chelsea: Marcus Rashford ‘new hero’ and inspires Villa comeback win
Aston Villa 2-1 Chelsea: Marcus Rashford ‘new hero’ and inspires Villa comeback win
For Manchester United, it was yet another day during which their troubles were exposed. For Marcus Rashford, it was the polar opposite.
Rashford, who joined United at the age of seven and for so long was an instrumental player for the club, found himself frozen out under new manager Ruben Amorim.
So he went on loan to Aston Villa – and, on Saturday, he shone.
The 27-year-old’s determined, energetic display after being brought on as a half-time substitute against Chelsea saw him assist both goals as Villa came from behind to win 2-1.
United, meanwhile, drew 2-2 with Everton to remain 15th in the table.
On Wednesday, Rashford made his first start in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool and on Saturday evening he had an exceptional half off the bench.
According to team-mate Youri Tielemans, he is someone who will “only get better” as he gets back to playing regular minutes.
“[I am] very pleased, especially the way he is performing now and with the two assists today,” Tielemans told Sky Sports.
“Marcus is someone who can threaten everyone one versus one and even one versus two. He is very important for us in the way he plays because he gives us something different on the left-hand side.”
With Marco Asensio scoring both goals, Rashford assisted the same player twice in a Premier League game for the first time since June 2020. “Every time he got the ball he was dangerous,” added Tielemans.
Although he fell out of favour under Amorim, Rashford is beginning to find his feet again under Unai Emery.
He is currently on loan at Villa until the end of the season, having joined in February after not featuring for United since expressing his desire for a “new challenge” in December.
Villa have the option to make Rashford’s deal permanent for £40m.

Police search 9000sq km for missing Queensland mum Tayla Spies with ‘no starting point’
Police search 9000sq km for missing Queensland mum Tayla Spies with ‘no starting point’
Chilling CCTV footage has been released showing the last moment a missing mum was seen.
Tayla Spies, 29, went missing almost three weeks ago from the Dalby and Roma areas, west of Brisbane.
Police received information that Ms Spies left a hotel in Dalby about 8am on February 2 and travelled towards Surat.
Footage of Spies shows her walking, dressed in a pink shirt with light coloured shorts, carrying a large red bag to her white 2017 Toyota Hilux.
Camera IconThe CCTV has been released showing the last time the mum was seen. Credit: NewsWire
Detective Chief Inspector Garry Watts said police were searching a “vast” area of 9000sqkm to locate the former wedding and event planner.
“Unfortunately, with the nature of the investigation at the moment, we have no starting point other than we know that Tayla’s vehicle was seen in Surat at 11.10am on Sunday 2 February,” Inspector Watts said.
“With an area so vast of 9000sq km, we’re unable to put feet on the ground to commence a proper search area.”
Inspector Watts said police have utilised aerial assets and are working with the Spies family to search areas they think Ms Spies and her ute may have been.
“We still hold grave concerns to her health and safety and we are again seeking the public’s assistance to identify any person who may be speaking to or has seen Tayla since February 2,” he said.
“Unfortunately at this point we’re no further in establishing where she is.”
Police continue to seek urgent public assistance to locate the missing 28-year-old and hold “serious concerns” for her ******** as they appeal for dashcam footage from the area.
The police search area includes Yuleba, Wullambilla South, east to Roma, south to Teelba past Surat and west to Glenmorgan and Meandarra.
Police have urged local farmers to come forward with any information.
“I’m asking any farm holders out there, if they could have a look at their holdings … to see if anyone has traversed their property (and) have a look for the white utility,” Inspector Watts said.
“It’s been several weeks now and we are frustrated that we have been unable to locate the vehicle and Tayla.”

Ms Spies’ family have urged the public to report any information to police to help bring the young mother home.
“The pain and enormity of her absence increases with each day that passes and the worry is consuming us all,” sister Rebecca Spies said.
“Sissy, if you’re watching this, I want you to know that you are so loved and cherished by so many people.
“I want you to know that I miss my big sister and I love you, you’re my protector and the one that keeps me young at heart.
“Mum wants you to know that if you need a break, and you’re not ready to come home yet, that’s okay but please just let her know that you are okay.
“Nanna wants you to know that she loves you and your babies love you.”
Police are encouraging anyone who may have been travelling in the area on February 2 between 10.30am and 12.30pm to check their dashcam footage.

Thornton Township, Dolton trustees respond to Kamal Woods claim they incited meeting brawl
Thornton Township, Dolton trustees respond to Kamal Woods claim they incited meeting brawl
Thornton Township and Dolton trustees say a lawsuit filed last week falsely claims they conspired to start a brawl at a township meeting last month.
The lawsuit, by former Thornton Township employee and Tiffany Henyard’s boyfriend Kamal Woods, says three Thornton Township trustees, five Dolton officials and public relations specialist Nakita Cloud hired community activist Jedidiah Brown to “stalk and harass” Woods and Henyard for months leading up to the Jan. 28 brawl.
Thornton Township Trustee Christopher Gonzalez is named in the lawsuit and said Friday he sees it as one of many that takes aim against Henyard’s political enemies.
“Just lots of allegations, not much behind them,” Gonzalez said. “Just more baseless stuff.”
Gonzalez said he has not yet been served but considers the lawsuit a distraction from his official duties as trustee. He said he is choosing to focus on preparing the township budget, which the board has discussed at the last two board meetings. The next Thornton Township meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Monday in South Holland, Gonzalez said.
The Jan. 28 Thornton Township meeting erupted into a brawl that Henyard jumped into during the meeting’s public comment *******. Brown, in his comments, used inflammatory language, attacking Henyard personally and in her leadership roles as Thornton Township supervisor and Dolton mayor. After calling Henyard an expletive, he walked toward the table where the supervisor and other township officials were seated before spinning around toward the back of the building, where the fight then broke out.
Woods, in his lawsuit, alleges Brown was hired to act as a “provocateur” during the township meeting.
“His language was strictly intended to incite Mr. Woods to react to the verbal attacks against his significant other,” the lawsuit alleges.
Woods is seeking $10 million in damages, which attorney Michael McGrath said is a “ridiculous” claim for damages.
“There is never a need to include a claim for damages in any specific amount over the jurisdictional required amount, unless you want to make headlines,” McGrath, who said he will represent the Dolton trustees, wrote in an email to the Daily Southtown. “This was the plaintiff’s intent and seems to be the outcome he sought … I would be very surprised if he prevails on any claims against the Township defendants.”
He said videos of the melee show Woods as the instigator.
Dolton Trustee Jason House, who is named in the lawsuit and looking to unseat Henyard in Tuesday’s primary election, dismissed Woods’ claim he hired Brown.
“It’s an outrageous claim,” House said. “It’s a waste of oxygen.”
“Her claim is laughable,” House said of Henyard posting on social media that he and other trustees hired Brown to harass Henyard.
“We expect the baseless claims to be dismissed quickly,” he said.
In a video posted to her Facebook page Feb. 12, Henyard, with her attorney, Beau Brindley, levels the charge that Brown has been stalking her.
“He actually has been stalking the mayor when she is with her family in her private time,” Brindley said.
Henyard did, in January, file paperwork in Cook County court seeking a restraining order against Brown.
Brindley said Brown was carrying a knife at the township meeting — a matter that has been widely argued on social media — and that he swung it in the direction of Woods.
“This is an important man in her (Henyard’s) life and he was being threatened with a deadly weapon,” Brindley said in the video.
Brindley said that “the truth has been lost,” in the dissection of what took place at the meeting.
“Truth is overrun by spectacle and sensationalism,” he said.
House said Brown’s first involvement with Dolton came on behalf of a now former village employee who alleges in a lawsuit she was ********* assaulted by a Dolton official during a village trip to Las Vegas. That lawsuit is pending in Cook County court.
House said Brown, a frequent attendee at Village Board and township meetings, became more involved in Dolton’s political scene.
“His advocacy expanded to the corruption he saw” on the part of the village’s administration, House said.
He said that he and Brown have no relationship beyond Brown’s involvement in Dolton politics.
House leads a slate of candidates in the Tuesday primary and seeks to block Henyard’s attempt at a second term. He would be up for reelection as a trustee this year, and if he fails in his mayoral bid would be off the Village Board.
Henyard has her own slate of trustee and village clerk candidates.
Brown said in his federal lawsuit that Henyard and Woods conspired against him to deprive him of his “constitutional rights of freedom of speech by physically attacking him” during the township meeting.
It was a ploy, Brown alleges, to disrupt the meeting so that no action would be taken on a possible suspension of Woods.
Brown said in his lawsuit that during the melee he was punched and kicked, then taken to a separate room where a private security employee also physically abused him. Brown said he went to a hospital emergency room the day after the meeting for treatment.
Brown, in his lawsuit, said that after the melee, he filed a report with the South Holland Police Department but was “treated as an aggressor by law enforcement.” The village of South Holland confirmed Friday a report was filed, but said no arrests have been made.
Woods was placed on leave during the Jan. 28 township meeting, but was fired at a subsequent meeting Feb. 6.
Before the brawl, trustees met in closed session to discuss the employment of Woods, who served as director of the township’s At-Risk Youth Program.
In his lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court, Woods said he was hired in November 2022 as the full-time director of the township’s At-Risk Youth Program.
In August 2024, according to records obtained by the Chicago Tribune and Daily Southtown, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity received a federal subpoena for all records related to Thornton Township and “Project B Youth Violence Prevention.”
A spokesperson for the state DCEO said at the time that Thornton Township had received $7.1 million in grant money since 2020, and Plan B Youth Violence Prevention was among the programs funded by a $500,000 grant “for violence interruption, community development and operational expenses and administrative costs.”
The address given for the program, on Sibley Boulevard in Dolton, comes up in Cook County records as a car wash business.
“DCEO was not apprised of the reason for the subpoena,” the statement said, adding that the agency provided the requested documents to federal authorities.
Woods, in his lawsuit, said he is the “significant other” of Henyard, but has become “collateral damage” as a result of the controversy surrounding her role as mayor and supervisor.
Woods alleges he has unwittingly been the victim of “politically motivated verbal attacks and unsubstantiated accusations against his significant other, which have caused him to be caught in a whirlwind of political controversy and thus a political target.”

Trump revels in mass federal firings before adoring conservative crowd
Trump revels in mass federal firings before adoring conservative crowd
President Donald Trump said Saturday that “nobody has ever seen anything” like his administration’s sweeping effort to fire thousands of federal employees and shrink the size of government, congratulating himself for “dominating” Washington and sending bureaucrats “packing.”
Addressing an adoring crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference in suburban Washington, Trump promised, “We’re going to forge a new and lasting political majority that will drive American politics for generations to come.”
The president has spent the opening weeks of his administration arguing that voters in November gave him a mandate to overhaul government while cracking down on the U.S.-Mexico border and to extend tax cuts that were the signature policy of his first administration.
Trump clicked easily back into campaign mode during a speech that lasted more than an hour, predicting that the GOP will continue to win and defy history, which has shown that a president’s party typically struggles during midterm congressional elections. He insisted of Republicans, “I don’t think we’ve been at this level, maybe ever.”
“Nobody’s ever seen anything like this, and nobody’s ever seen four weeks like we had,” Trump said, likening his new administration’s opening month to being on a roll through the first four holes of a round of golf, which he said gave him confidence for the fifth.
Trump has empowered Elon Musk to help carry out the firings, and the billionaire vowed Saturday that more might be coming.
“Consistent with President @realDonaldTrump’s instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week,” Musk posted on X, which he owns. “Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”
Trump also repeatedly said Saturday that he’d carry out harder-line immigration policies. But those efforts have largely been overshadowed by his administration’s mass federal firings. He announced that one agency that had been significantly reduced, the U.S. Agency for International Development, would have its Washington office taken over by Customs and Border Protection officials.
“The agency’s name has been removed from its former building,” he said.
The president also repeated his previous promises that his administration will scrutinize the country’s gold depository at Fort Knox.
“Would anybody like to join us,” he said to cheers from the crowd. “We want to see if the gold is still there.”
But Trump also devoted large chunks of his address reliving last year’s presidential race, jeering at former President Joe Biden and mispronouncing the first name of former Vice President Kamala Harris — his Election Day opponent — gleefully proclaiming, “I haven’t said that name in a while.”
He even mentioned Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., who ran for president in 2020.
The president said immigration and border policy under Biden made him angry. “I couldn’t stand it,” Trump said, before cautioning himself, “Donald, don’t get angry.” He went on to use an expletive to describe how he thinks of Biden’s handling of border security, despite noting that evangelical conservatives have urged him not to use foul language.
Trump had kinder words for ******** President Xi Jinping, saying “I happen to like” him, while adding, “We’ve been treated very unfairly by China and many other countries.”
On the sidelines of the conference, Trump met with conservative Polish President Andrzej Duda amid rising tensions in Europe over Russia’s war in Ukraine. After he took the stage, Trump saluted Duda and Argentine President Javier Milei, who himself separately addressed the conference.
Trump called Duda “a fantastic man and a great friend of mine” and said “you must be doing something right, hanging out with Trump.” He noted that Milei was “a MAGA guy, too, Make Argentina Great Again.”
Duda is a populist who has enjoyed a close relationship with Trump in years past. Poland is a longtime ally of Ukraine. Trump upended recent U.S. policy by dispatching top foreign policy advisers to Saudi Arabia for direct talks with Russian officials that were aimed at ending fighting in Ukraine.
Those meetings did not include Ukrainian or European officials, which has alarmed U.S. allies. After his face-to-face with Duda, Trump is meeting on Monday at the White House with French President Emmanuel Macron and Thursday with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Trump also has begun a public back and forth with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whom the U.S. president called a “dictator” while falsely suggesting that Ukraine started the war — though on Friday he acknowledged that Russia attacked its neighbor.
Trump said during his speech, “I’m dealing with President Zelenskyy. I’m dealing with President Putin” and added of fighting in Ukraine, “It affects Europe. It doesn’t really affect us.”
Zelenskyy has said Trump is living in a Russian-made “disinformation space.”
For much of the time since Russia invaded in February 2022, the United States, under Biden, pledged that Ukraine would play in any major effort to end the fighting, vowing “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.” Trump’s administration has dispensed with that notion, as the Republican president has accelerated his push to find an endgame to the war.
“I think we’re pretty close to a deal, and we better be close to a deal,” Trump said Saturday of ending the war in Ukraine.
Later, the president and first lady Melania Trump were hosting an evening reception and dinner at the White House for the National Governors Association, which was holding their own weekend meetings in Washington.

Beterbiev vs Bivol 2: Briton Hamzah Sheeraz bout with Carlos Adames ends in controversial draw
Beterbiev vs Bivol 2: Briton Hamzah Sheeraz bout with Carlos Adames ends in controversial draw
As challenger, Ilford’s Sheeraz made an understated ring walk first, keeping his eyes firmly on his rival as both boxers were introduced to the crowd.
Adames was in confident mood throughout fight week, describing the Briton as hype and questioning the quality of his previous opponents, while not affected by the jeers which greeted him.
The pair sized each other up in the opening rounds and the champion crouched down, bobbed and weaved his way around the ring, targeting 6ft 3in Sheeraz’s body.
“You’re going to become world champion tonight, baby,” trainer Ricky Funez told Sheeraz.
The Londoner – who trains out in Los Angeles – upped the tempo in the fourth as he doubled up his piston-like jab and followed it up with a body shot and a chopping right.
But Adames hunted Sheeraz down and landed clean shots to win the sixth and then made the challenger wince when he connected with a thunderous overhand right in the eighth.
Promoter Frank Warren seethed as he walked over to Sheeraz’s corner at the end of round nine and yelled at his fighter to throw the uppercut.
A thudding right – Sheeraz’s best shot of the fight – did not land until the 11th and his corner changed their tune before the final round. “You have to knock him out to win,” they told him.
It was Adames, though, who ended the fight on top and looked to have defended his title with an assured display.
Earlier this week, Sheeraz had talked up his dreams to become a three-weight world champion and welcomed a contest with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez next year.
Those ambitions, for now, seem a world away.

Pope Francis in critical condition after health worsens
Pope Francis in critical condition after health worsens
The ******** says that Pope Francis’ health had deteriorated and for the first time described his condition as “critical”, reporting he had needed supplemental oxygen and blood transfusions.
In a statement on Saturday, the ******** said the 88-year-old Francis, who has double pneumonia, had suffered a “prolonged asthma-like respiratory crisis” and his condition had worsened in the past 24 hours.
“The Holy Father’s condition remains critical,” the statement said.
“The Pope is not out of danger.”
“The Holy Father remains alert and has spent the day in a chair, though he is more unwell than yesterday. At the moment, the prognosis remains guarded.”
The Pope was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli hospital on February 14 after experiencing difficulty breathing for several days.

The ******** said on Saturday that doctors had to administer a “high flow” of oxygen because of his breathing crisis. It added that the blood transfusions were necessary because tests showed he had a low platelet count, associated with anaemia.
The ******** announced earlier in the day that he would not appear in public on Sunday to lead prayer with pilgrims, the second consecutive week he will have missed the event.

Double pneumonia is a serious infection that can inflame and scar both lungs, making it difficult to breathe. The ******** has described the pope’s infection as “complex,” saying it is being caused by two or more micro-organisms.
In a briefing on Friday, two of his doctors said the Pope was highly vulnerable due to his age and frailty.
Dr Sergio Alfieri, a senior member of the Gemelli staff, said there was a risk the lung infection could spread to his bloodstream and develop into sepsis, which “could be very difficult to overcome”.
Francis, who has been pope since 2013, has suffered bouts of ill health in the past two years. He is particularly prone to lung infections because he developed pleurisy as a young adult and had part of one lung removed.

Concerns over his health have led at least one cardinal to suggest that Francis might resign if he felt unable to carry on.
However, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the ********’s secretary of state who is sometimes referred to as the deputy pope, dismissed such talk as “useless speculation.”
“Now we are thinking about the Holy Father’s health, his recovery, and his return to the ********. These are the only things that matter,” Parolin told the Corriere della Sera daily in comments published on Saturday.

Mali to investigate claims soldiers ‘executed’ women and children
Mali to investigate claims soldiers ‘executed’ women and children
Mali’s military government says it is investigating allegations that soldiers “coldly executed” at least 24 civilians in the north of the country on Monday.
That claim was made by a separatist Tuareg rebel alliance, called Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), which is battling the Malian government in the same region.
The FLA accuse Malian forces and Wagner mercenaries of intercepting two passenger vehicles travelling to Algeria from the Malian city of Gao and killing the civilians on board, including women and children.
In a statement, army chief Gen Oumar Diarra said the allegations “relayed by terrorist networks, allies and sponsors” follow other “unfounded” claims against state forces.
For many years, the Malian government has been struggling against both Tuareg rebels seeking a breakaway state in the north and jihadist groups linked to Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group.
The military which seized power in coups in 2020 and 2021 hired Russian mercenaries from the paramilitary group Wagner to help improve security in the country.
Both government forces and the Russians have often been accused by rights groups of committing gross human rights abuses against civilians, which they deny.
Last month, Mali was one of three countries under military rule to leave the West African regional bloc Ecowas, after refusing its demands to restore civilian rule.
The withdrawal of Mali, Burkina Faso and ****** dealt a huge blow to Ecowas, which at 50 years old is considered Africa’s most important regional group.
Mali’s military leaders also ended ties with former colonial power France, whose troops left the country in 2022 after more than a decade fighting Islamist insurgents.
The following year, all 12,000 UN peacekeepers left Mali on the junta’s instructions.

Two men and a woman arrested
Two men and a woman arrested
Handout
Robert Scott Clive, known as Scott, disappeared in October 2002
Three people have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a man who went missing more than 20 years ago.
Robert Scott Clive, known as Scott, was last seen on 10 October 2002 following a night out in North Shields, North Tyneside, where he had moved to from Stranraer in Scotland a few months earlier.
A ******* investigation was launched despite no body being found.
Northumbria Police said it had now arrested two men, in their 40s and 50s, as well as a woman in her 40s on suspicion of *******.
Mr Clive, who lived in Prudhoe Terrace and worked as a labourer, was 30 at the time of his disappearance.
Officers say they have reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and spoken to several people in their efforts to piece together his movements.
Police are still searching an address in the Coronation Street area which is a location Mr Clive is known to have visited on the evening he went missing.
Family ‘in limbo’
Last June, a 49-year-old man was arrested in connection with the investigation. He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Unconfirmed sightings in the early hours of 11 October 2002 placed a man matching Mr Clive’s description near the banks of the River Tyne.
His mother, Tricia Clive, speaking last year, said the family were “still in limbo” as they did not believe he fell into the river.
Officers cordoned off a house as they conducted the search
Det Insp Mark Atherton, who is leading the case, said: “We are doing everything we can to provide Scott’s family with the answers they deserve.
“We still believe there could be key information that people know in the local community.”
He said: “I am again urging anybody who lived on Coronation Street at the time of his disappearance, or has information about Scott’s movements that night, to come forward.
“The information you have could prove key in our investigations.”

Screen Queen: Rogue Heroes, RHOS, Dope Girls, Berlin ER and No Taste Like Home With Antoni Porowski
Screen Queen: Rogue Heroes, RHOS, Dope Girls, Berlin ER and No Taste Like Home With Antoni Porowski
Rogue HeroesWednesday, 9.30pm, SBS
I feel uncomfortable saying this, but this series, about the swashbuckling exploits of the first SAS fighters operating during World War II, makes war look . . . kinda cool.
I know, this is a very problematic thing to admit. And I’m sure my grandfather, who served in the British military during this time, would have one or two things to say about my sentiments, and this series.
Then again, maybe not: he left me an incredible photo album in his will. It included hundreds of photos he took with his little Brownie box camera during his time spent in the Middle East and Africa.
There are photos of him snowed in with a Kurdish family in Iraq, atop a pyramid (try topping THAT for a selfie location), larking about with his mates on their downtime, swimming in rivers, patting local dogs — it actually looked a right vibe.
But then, he was a signalman, so technically out of harm’s way, not risking life and limb like the men of the SAS, as they’ve now been renamed as we pick up the action in 1943.
With Stirling (Connor Swindells) now holed up as a prisoner of war, it’s up to Paddy (Jack O’Connell) to steer his men to their next challenge, “attacking an entire f…… continent” — with just 35 in their cohort. It’s a suicide mission, but if these lads know one thing, it’s that going against the orders of a man like Paddy could turn out to be a worse proposition than getting off that landing craft.
Like my grandad’s photos, this show tells only a fraction of what really went down, and what those men actually endured, though it’s based on fact — and sometimes the facts are even more interesting than their fictional retelling.
Either way, this is five-star excellent television.

Antoni Porowski, aka The Hot One From ****** Eye Who Left, now has his own show, and he’s inviting audiences to join him as he journeys to all sorts of far-flung places to chat to his celeb guests about their gastronomic roots.
“As the son of immigrants, I can tell you food can tell you more about who you are and where you’ve come from than you could ever imagine,” he says in ep one, which sees him talking food with actor Florence Pugh.
Other guests include Awkwafina, James Marsden and Issa Rae — I challenge you to find a more charming selection.
Part travelogue, part cooking show, part family history exploration, this looks every bit as delightful as Porowski himself.

There’s a real fever-dream quality to this new drama, about a bunch of women who helped reimagine post-WWI Soho into the den of iniquity it went on to become. Peaky Blinders, but from a female gaze — intriguing concept.
