Jim Chalmers heading to Washington amid tariff fallout
Jim Chalmers heading to Washington amid tariff fallout
Jim Chalmers says he will raise the Trump administration’s brutal blanket tariffs on foreign steel and aluminium when he meets his new US counterpart in Washington next week.
The relationship between Canberra and Donald Trump’s White House has gotten off to a rocky start, with both the Albanese government and the Coalition making clear they do not share many of the US President’s foreign policy positions.
The move to slap levies of 25 per cent on all steel and aluminium imports “without exemptions or exceptions”, despite saying an *********** carve out was “under consideration”, has been a particularly sore spot.
Before flying out on Sunday, Mr Chalmers said he did not expect the tariff issue to be settled during his trip.
Camera IconTreasurer Jim Chalmers will raise tariffs when he visits Washington next week. NewsWire / Martin Ollman Credit: News Corp Australia
“Trade and tariffs will be part of the conversation, but not the whole conversation,” he told the ABC.
“That is an ongoing discussion that we’re having with our American counterparts. I don’t expect we will conclude those discussions on steel and aluminium while I’m in DC.
“I am not going to pre-empt the outcome of those conversations, nor do I expect those discussions will necessarily be concluded this week, to be upfront with you.”
He added that “whether it’s the flow of capital or critical minerals and trade, there’s lots to talk about”.
Mr Trump’s backflip on Ukraine has also raised eyebrows in Western capitals.
Earlier this week, he echoed Kremlin talking points and called Volodomyr Zelensky a “dictator”, falsely accusing the Ukrainian President of starting the war with Russia.
Australia has given north of $1.5bn-worth of aid to Ukraine to help it fight back against invading Russian forces.
Mr Chalmers reaffirmed the Albanese government’s backing for Kyiv.
“The *********** position is very clear and it’s been really consistent,” the Treasurer said.
“The war started because of Russian aggression.
“President Zelensky is the elected leader of a courageous country.
“Our support for Ukraine has been unwavering and that will continue. We’ve said that Ukraine obviously needs to be part of any peace discussions.”

Hetherington closes in on Broncos extension after talks
Hetherington closes in on Broncos extension after talks
Brisbane forward Kobe Hetherington has all but locked up the No.13 jersey for round one and is now in negotiations with the club for an extension.
The 25-year-old’s management met with the Broncos last week. Currently off-contract at the end of the season, Hetherington’s manager Chris Haddad is seeking two to three more years at a palatable price.
“I had a meeting with (Broncos recruitment chief) Simon Scanlan on Thursday and they are going to come back to me and tell me what (the offer) looks like,” Haddad told AAP.
“It was a good meeting and they are very keen, but it has to be the right offer. Kobe wants to stay but he doesn’t have a problem with moving as well.”
Hetherington made it clear the outcome he wanted.
“I signed here as a kid straight out of school. I’d like to be here long term. It’s where I want to be,” he said.
If the deal gets done it will be a remarkable turnaround for Hetherington who was on the way out of Red Hill before new coach Michael Maguire signed on as head coach.
Hetherington was given permission by former coach Kevin Walters to negotiate with other clubs and he had interest from several including Wests Tigers.
Maguire took over and put a stop to any idea of him leaving and gave Hetherington the belief that he could nail down the starting position he craved.
That entailed moving Test forward Pat Carrigan from lock to prop and starting Hetherington at No.13.
Hetherington has made a wonderful fist of the task and was strong in the 30-14 trial win over Canterbury on Saturday night, where he topped the tackle count with 37 and ran with venom for 89m.
Carrigan was strong in running for 123m and the duo look like forging a bash and barge combination that could become a lethal one-two punch.
“I’d like to think so,” Hetherington said.
“(Carrigan) is buying into it.
“There’s not much difference between lock and front row. We work good together I like to build off him and I’d like to think he can build off me too.”
Hetherington is a straight shooter from Central Queensland and was quick to sum up why he was thriving under ‘Madge’ Maguire.
“Everyone knows what Madge is like. He’s tough. He’s hard. That’s how I like to play my footy,” he said.

Avowed – Full Galawain’s Tusks Map And Points Of Interest
Avowed – Full Galawain’s Tusks Map And Points Of Interest
After hours and hours of exploring three separate maps in Avowed, you finally arrive at Galawain’s Tusks in search of the mythical Garden. Galawain’s Tusks is certainly the least aesthetically pleasing map in the game, as the lava from Mt. Forja and Solace Keep along with the acid sea have turned the entire region a red, greyish color. Still, Galawain’s Tusks is by far the largest map in Avowed and there’s a ton to see and do as soon as you arrive.
Opening up your map for the first time in Galawain’s Tusks can be a little overwhelming, as the size of the region is unlike anything you’ve seen up to this point. Fortunately for you, we spent hours combing through the entire map to fully uncover all of the fog on it. You can see the uncovered Galawain’s Tusks map along with some points of interest in the guide below so you have a much better idea of where you’re going.
Full Galawain’s Tusks Map in Avowed
There are technically three different parts to Galawain’s Tusks and there’s very little that gets in your way of exploring the whole map. While there are certainly mountains, bridges, and towers surrounding every part of the map, you can fully explore all of it. Here are the major locations you’ll come across in Galawain’s Tusks:
The Sallow Steppe
Slumbering Fields
Twinedwood
Solace Keep
Primordial Depths
Ash Forest
Mt. Forja
Mt. Forja is the only location in Galawain’s Tusks that isn’t immediately accessible when you arrive. Part of that area can only be explored as a part of the main story quest in Avowed. However, the rest of the map is fair game and takes hours to explore.
Here are two images that showcase the fully uncovered Galawain’s Tusks map:
Northern Galawain’s Tusks map
Southern Galawain’s Tusks map
As you continue in the main story, more areas will open up to you. For the most part, though, these are areas that you wouldn’t know existed until you were guided there by the story quests.
Galawain’s Tusks Key Points of Interest
With Galawain’s Tusks being such a large area, it should come as no surprise that there are plenty of fast travel beacons and party camp waystones scattered around the map. In total, Galawain’s Tusks has nine fast travel beacons and only three party camp waystones. Interestingly enough, there is no fast travel beacon inside the main hub city of Solace Keep. To get there, you have to fast travel to the beacon just outside of the drawbridge and then run there. It’s also worth noting that some fast travel beacons don’t become usable until you reach certain points in the story.
Here’s a list of some other major points of interest in Galawain’s Tusks:
Strangled Adra
Located south of The Sallow Steppe and directly east of where you start in Galawain’s Tusks
The Voice
Found near the Restless Cavern in the southwestern part of Slumbering Fields. You have to climb to the top of a cliff to reach it. Slumbering Fields itself is accessible via a bridge that goes over the lava river
Pargrun Cache
The Pargrun Cache in Galawain’s Tusks offers some sweet rewards and also holds two of the Totem of Perseverance pieces. You can reach the Pargrun Cache through the Lost Village, which is located north of Solace Keep at the top part of the map
Treasure Maps
Mapping the Living Lands Cartographer
And there you have it, the entire Galawain’s Tusks map laid out for you in Avowed. It certainly takes some time and effort to fully explore the region, but the payoff is worth it.

Avowed – Full Shatterscarp Map And Points Of Interest
Avowed – Full Shatterscarp Map And Points Of Interest
Shatterscarp is the third region you can visit during your journey in Avowed. It’s home to Thirdborn, a town full of misfits, pirates, and outlaws. Shatterscarp is arguably the most dangerous region in the Living Lands, as the Dreamscourge has completely taken over the inhabitants and there’s a dangerous Archmage at work that’s devouring whole sections of the map.
Through all of this chaos, though, there are some gorgeous locations and plenty of content to consume in addition to the main story quests. To make your time easier in Shatterscarp, we went through the trouble of fully uncovering the entire map, allowing you to see where everything is and how to get there. The guide below will showcase the uncovered map as well as some key points of interest that you’ll want to visit in Avowed.
Full Shatterscarp Map in Avowed
Unlike other regions in Avowed, Shatterscarp is centered around its hub city of Thirdborn. Instead, Thirdborn is a small settlement that borders the ocean on the southern border of the map. At the center of Shatterscarp is a massive mountain that you can’t really traverse, forcing you to go around it if you want to visit the sprawling locations in the region.
In total, there are five major areas you can explore in Shatterscarp, and they are:
Thirdborn
Great Sand Sea
Ancient Lakebed
Shark’s Teeth
Deadfall Highlands
There are plenty of other larger locations you’ll visit throughout the story, but those are the main five sections of the map. All of them surround the massive mountain in the middle of Shatterscarp, so it’s wise to follow the main road (indicated by the red dotted lines on the map) if you want to efficiently make your way around.
Here are two shots of the fully uncovered Shatterscarp map:
Northern Shatterscarp map
Southern Shatterscarp map
As always, Thirdborn remains covered as it has a separate map that appears when you enter its front doors. The only other part of the map that’s covered is the central mountain, but as you can see, there are some small areas you can find that allow you to explore a little of the large rock.
Shatterscarp Key Points of Interest
Shatterscarp doesn’t feature nearly the same amount of fast travel beacons and party camps as Dawnshore or Emerald Stair in Avowed. As such, you’ll have a difficult time making your way around the map quickly. There are only five fast travel beacons and four party camp waystones.
This might deter you from exploring the map, but trust us, there’s plenty to see and do in Shatterscarp. Below, we’ll list off some of the major points of interest and where they’re located on the map.
Strangled Adra
At the top of the Broken Crown Rock to the north of the Great Sand Sea
The Voice
On the top of a cliff at the Twin Offerings Overlook, located in the southern part of the Great Sand Sea and to the west of the Sand Sea Oasis
Pargrun Cache
If you want some unique rewards in Avowed, head to the Pargrun Cache in the southeastern part of the Shark’s Teeth area. This is also where one of the Totem of Revelations pieces is located
Treasure Maps
Mapping the Living Lands Cartographer
That’s all for this map guide in Avowed. Shatterscarp might be tedious to explore at times, but it holds some tremendous rewards.

How a Pixi stepped into reality
How a Pixi stepped into reality
THE BAR OWNER
Before COVID-19, Debbie Paltos had a busy career. She co-owned a cafe in Cottesloe and another in Fremantle, and ran a jewellery business in Sydney. Her businesses were successful but she always dreamed of owning a bar — something she felt was out of reach in Australia because of high establishment and liquor licensing fees.
“My vision was to open a bar that felt like I was hanging out at a friend’s house playing music,” she says.
“After I moved to Bali I was lucky enough to make a few friends who wanted the same thing. One worked in band touring, another in skateboard marketing, another in fashion, and we are all heavily into music. Everyone brought something different to the table.”
But making it happen wasn’t a walk in the park. A year passed before Debbie found the perfect spot: an empty lot backing on to the rice fields on the outskirts of Canggu, the busiest part of Bali.
Then, it took another year to build the bar.
“The build was really hard,” she says.
“In Bali, you have to be there every day during construction. You can’t just leave the workers alone because if you’re gone, even for one day, something will be done wrong.
“And while everything, from labour to construction materials, is cheaper and requires a lower amount of outlay, the quality is not the same as in Australia and things need to be constantly repaired.
“And unless you’re doing the same beach-chic decor as everyone else, it’s really hard to find some things. A lot of stuff has to be imported.”
The result, Pixi’s, is a dark and intimate dive bar with a small beer garden around the back.
The music varies from the 1980s, to garage, to metal, to rock‘n’roll. There’s a wide selection of spirits and local and imported beers, and the kitchen knocks out fantastic alcohol-soaked smashed double cheeseburgers and spicy chicken fillet burgers for $10 a pop.
The decor is dark and grungy with tiger-print velvet wallpaper, ******-and-white band posters, murals by local artists, and red mood lighting. T
he ambience is more London than Bali, but somehow it all works, and Pixi’s has a steady stream of customers every night of the week.
“Am I living the dream? During the construction phase, I certainly wasn’t,” Debbie says.
“But now, I wake up in the morning, I go and have a coffee, I get a massage, I eat at restaurants whenever I want, then I go to my bar and work with my friends.
“So yeah, I guess I am living the dream.”

With KFC Launching KFConsole and Chipotle Targeting Gamers, World’s Largest Fitness Brand Should Revive a Nintendo Console To Fight Rising Obesity in USA
With KFC Launching KFConsole and Chipotle Targeting Gamers, World’s Largest Fitness Brand Should Revive a Nintendo Console To Fight Rising Obesity in USA
Not a single person in their wildest dreams could’ve ever seen KFC entering the gaming industry. That’s right, the fast food brand launched “KFConsole,” which kept chicken warm while allowing you to play games. On the other hand, Chipotle has tried to break into the industry as well through various partnerships and promotions.
Even KFC has its very own gaming console! (Image via KFC)
It’s clear that fast-food brands consider the gaming industry to be the top choice to divert to, as it’s an incredible way to attract younger audiences to their outlets. While it’s making money, it has had a negative impact in the U.S. due to unhealthy habits leading to obesity. However, if the world’s biggest fitness brand partners with Nintendo to fight this issue, we could see a revolution in the gaming industry.
It’s time for a Peloton and Nintendo partnership
The collab between these companies can be a game changer. (Image via Nintendo)
It’s a known fact that Peloton is the world’s largest fitness brand. Seriously, the company has completely changed the idea of at-home workouts with quality exercise equipment and live-streamed classes. However, if it’s looking to fight back against the rising obesity in the U.S., the company must partner up with Nintendo.
Nintendo’s consoles have played a significant role in the gaming industry. However, the company’s biggest success was undoubtedly the Wii, which debuted all the way in 2006.
What was special about this console was the fact that it made gaming physically engaging! We had titles such as Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and Just Dance that pushed players to move and exercise, all still being fun.
Unfortunately, Nintendo didn’t bring a proper successor to the Wii, which ended up leaving a huge gap in the physically active gaming market. For some time, we had Xbox Kinect occupying that space, but even Microsoft bailed out.
Clearly, there’s a need for a new generation of fitness-related gaming consoles, and a partnership with Peloton and Nintendo could provide that. With the help of Peloton’s years of fitness expertise and Nintendo’s mastery of Wii technology, we could see something new.
There are many ways both companies can collaborate. We can see Peloton working with Nintendo to relaunch a modern and upgraded Wii that’s packed with the latest motion tracking technology. The console’s revival in this way could prove to be game-changing and a great way to fight against rising obesity.
Nintendo’s next console might get Marvel Rivals
Nintendo Switch 2 might receive a Marvel Rivals port. (Image via NetEase Games)
Nintendo gave us a look at Switch 2 on January 16, and gamers have been all hyped up. Although we still don’t know much about the console, the company has confirmed that most of the titles will be backward compatible with some exceptions.
This has left many wondering what new games could be featured on the new handheld, and it seems like Marvel Rivals might be one of them. The hero-shooter developer NetEase Games has publicly expressed interest in developing titles for it.
While chatting with IGN, Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu revealed that NetEase Games has been talking with Nintendo for a while now, and the team has been working on a number of development kits.
According to Wu, the reason why Marvel Rivals hadn’t launched with the original Switch was all due to technical limitations. However, considering that Switch 2 will get massive hardware upgrades, this shouldn’t be an issue going forward.
With that said, do you think a Nintendo and Peloton collaboration can do wonders for the gaming industry? Let us know in the comments below.

Aussies feel free to find success in Bali
Aussies feel free to find success in Bali
Last year, more than 1 million Aussies visited Bali, but for many of them, it wasn’t the first time. With year-round hot weather, friendly locals and stunning landscapes, the island has a way of getting under your skin. For some, the pull is so strong they make it their home. But how do expats make a living in Bali when wages are so low? Working online is one solution, though it’s not for everyone. Some believe starting a small business is the way to go. In today’s paper, we speak with three *********** business owners in Bali to see how they made it happen.
THE BEAUTICIAN
For nearly a decade, Anna Kosic worked as a psychiatrist and social worker in Australia, helping people suffering from severe mental health conditions. She had a rewarding but taxing and stressful career. Today she lives in Bali, is the mother of a healthy three-year-old, and runs Beam and Bare, a beauty salon in Bali.
“We do laser hair removal, facials and body sculpting,” she says. “We have five-star reviews. Business is booming.”
Anna first came to Bali in 2015 after being inspired by a magazine story about a Balinese artist. It didn’t take her long to fall in love with the island, and two years and several more visits later, she quit her job and moved to Bali for good.
Camera IconAnna Kosic, owner of Beam and Bare. Credit: Supplied
“I did not have a plan. I knew I wouldn’t be able to work in mental health in Indonesia so I just took a leap of faith,” she says of the move. “At first I looked at what other expats were doing to establish themselves here. I wanted to enter the beauty industry but didn’t know how to go about it. I worked online, I worked in marketing, and I taught English. I consulted for other people’s businesses, I worked at a horse stable with kids, and I also worked in a few beauty salons where I learnt how to do laser hair removal. Last September, I opened my own.”
The journey hasn’t been easy.
“I had to start my life from scratch. It took me many years to get established and I still don’t find it easy doing business in Bali,” Anna says. ”It’s challenging to find qualified staff here and even more challenging retaining them, and there’s a lot of competition in niche industries like mine.”
Most expats living in Bali do not speak Bahasa Indonesia. With so many tourists on the island, English is widely understood. But if you want to run a business in Bali, you need to learn it, Anna believes.
“My parents immigrated to Australia, they learnt English, they assimilated, and I’m trying to do the same thing here,” she says.
“I am so grateful that I have had the opportunity to create a business and earn a living in Bali, so I learned Bahasa to show my respect to the locals.”
The best thing about living on the Island of the Gods? “Freedom,” she says. “Not having to live under the yoke of nine-to-five. I don’t have the same old boring routines here as I did back home where everyone works, does the shopping, does all the cleaning, and the weekend is your only freedom. I work a lot of hours here, that’s for sure, but there’s much more flexibility. Things are far less rigid than they are in Australia.”
