As Far as the Eye is a hex-crawling 4X city-builder, coming soon to Android and iOS
As Far as the Eye is a hex-crawling 4X city-builder, coming soon to Android and iOS
As Far As The Eye is a hex-crawling 4X city-builder where your home is on your back
Or that of a giant animal at least, as you guide your tribe to escape the encroaching wave
It’s set to arrive on iOS and Android March 5th, only a little over a week away
Ever wanted to carry your home on your back? Well, if you’re a snail, or have sufficiently few personal possessions then you might be able to. But what about carrying an entire village around and moving from place to place? Well, that’s what As Far As the Eye is all about! And you won’t need to wait long to give it a try as it’s arriving next week on March 5th for iOS and Android.
This hex-crawling 4X city-builder sees you plopped into a fantasy world of nomadic wanderers, with your tribe’s mobile village on the back of an enormous creature. Your task? Cope with increasing resource demands, obstacles and random events as you journey towards the centre of your world, named rather fittingly The Eye.
Along the way, you’ll have the chance to stop and stock up of course, but you’ll always be racing the enormous wave constantly chasing your tribe. Naturally, there are hard choices to be made and allies you meet can just as easily become enemies, if that’s what’s needed.
Beyond the mind’s eye
Despite this, aside from the ever-looming threat of the wave, there’s little in the way of enemies when it comes to As Far As The Eye is concerned. So if you’re looking for a cozier resource manager then this manages to adequately balance a peaceful setting with that still omnipresent nudge of a looming disaster.
Of course, if you don’t quite click with it (or do as well as you’d like) you can try different runs again and again thanks to the roguelike tribe system to mix up each playthrough ensuring hours of enjoyment.
While As Far As The Eye may be the biggest release thus far we’ve got plenty of other recommendations to offer. Check out our latest entry in Off The AppStore to find out what amazing games may’ve passed you by. Why? Because they’re not on the classic storefronts you know and tolerate.

Apple Reportedly Plans to Integrate Its In-House 5G Cellular Modem With Main Chipset
Apple Reportedly Plans to Integrate Its In-House 5G Cellular Modem With Main Chipset
Apple is reportedly planning to integrate its in-house 5G cellular modem into the main chipset. As per the report, the company is already testing the successor to the C1 modem, with an eventual goal of reducing dependence on the Qualcomm-sourced component. After being rumoured for months, the Cupertino-based tech giant finally launched its first cellular modem with the iPhone 16e handset. However, currently, the modem occupies a separate slot in the device’s motherboard, which is not optimal for energy efficiency or cost reduction.
Apple to Reportedly Integrate Its Modem With Main Chipset
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter that the tech giant is currently internally testing the C2 and C3 modems (expected names), which will be launched as the successor to the C1 5G cellular modem. Citing unnamed sources, the report claimed that the C2 modem could debut in 2026 and be featured across the company’s 2026 iPhone lineup.
Gurman claimed that Apple’s in-house modem is currently not as powerful as the Qualcomm counterpart that is used in the iPhone 16 models, which could be one of the reasons why the tech giant did not talk much about the milestone with the iPhone 16e launch. The company did claim that the C1 modem is the “most power-efficient modem ever” on an iPhone, however, efficiency is a more convoluted metric to measure.
Apple is reportedly expected to surpass Qualcomm with the third iteration of the modem, which could arrive in 2027. Gurman claimed that the modem could be fitted in an independent slot till that point. Apple reportedly does not have plans to integrate the modem into the main chipset till 2028. It is said that the integration is part of the company’s long-term roadmap as it would offer both better energy optimisation as well as cost reduction.
Notably, as per Apple’s technical specifications for the iPhone 16e, the C1 modem lacks support for mmWave, which is an extremely high frequency (EHF) band. It could dampen the download and upload speeds on the phone.

International Stocks Surge—Is the Market Finally Balancing Out?
International Stocks Surge—Is the Market Finally Balancing Out?
The year so far is shaping up to be quite different from 2024 in terms of leaders and laggards for the major asset classes. Global equities ex-US are the leaders, along with a broad measure of commodities, based on a set of ETFs through Friday’s close. The formerly high-flying US equities market, by comparison, is posting relatively modest results year to date.
Foreign shares in developed markets continue to post a wide lead over the rest of the field. Vanguard FTSE Developed Markets ETF (NYSE:) has rallied 7.2% so far this year. Emerging markets stocks () are in second place, rising 5.4%, followed by commodities () in third place at 4.9%. US stocks (), meanwhile, have fallen toward the back of the line with a relatively modest 2.1% gain.
For context, the Global Market Index (GMI) is up 3.0% so far this year. GMI is an unmanaged benchmark (maintained by CapitalSpectator.com) that holds all the major asset classes (except cash) in market-value weights via ETFs and represents a competitive benchmark for multi-asset-class portfolios.
A couple of months could be noise, of course, and so it’s too soon to draw solid conclusions from the year-to-date numbers. But in a world of rapidly changing political and economic conditions, this may be an early clue that the crowd’s outlook is pivoting away, if only on the margins, from the US-led order that’s prevailed in global markets in recent years.
US shares have been leaders over the rest world for so long as to inspire questions about whether international diversification is worthwhile. The relative strength in equities ex-US so far this year is inspiring some analysts to forecast a turning point that highlights the delayed but reviving power of mean reversion and global diversification.
“The pendulum swung too far in favor of US exceptionalism and too negative outside of the US,” advises Robert Ruggirello of Brave Eagle Wealth Management. “Coming into the year: tariffs, China’s bad, China regulation, all of this stuff. And it’s sort of reverting back to the mean now.”
Taking a strategic view and adopting some degree of global diversification, however, has been difficult over the past decade, observed Larry Swedroe, a veteran portfolio analyst. Writing for Morningstar last month on the pros and cons of international diversification, he advised:
“The bottom line is that while the prudent strategy is to globally diversify, investors will likely fall prey to recency bias and abandon even a well-thought-out plan, likely at the wrong time—unless the mistake of resulting (judging the quality of a decision by the outcome instead of the decision-making process) can be avoided.”

Starbucks will lay off 1,100 corporate employees and will not fill several hundred other open positions, the coffee chain’s CEO Brian Niccol said Monday.
The cuts will not affect workers at the company’s cafes.
In a message to corporate employees, Niccol said Starbucks is “simplifying our structure, removing layers and duplication and creating smaller, more nimble teams.”
“Our intent is to operate more efficiently, increase accountability, reduce complexity and drive better integration,” Niccol wrote. “All with the goal of being more focused and able to drive greater impact on our priorities.”
The layoffs come as Starbucks tries to draw coffee drinkers back to its cafes after same-store sales declined for four straight quarters. As customers turn to cheaper rivals in Starbucks’ two largest markets, the U.S. and China, Niccol has tried to revamp operations since he took the helm of the company last year, including by speeding up service.
Starbucks had about 16,000 employees who work outside of store locations as of last year. The cuts will affect people who work in corporate support, but not roasting, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution.

Idaho Republican town hall meeting descends into chaos after private security guards forcibly remove heckling woman
Idaho Republican town hall meeting descends into chaos after private security guards forcibly remove heckling woman
An Idaho Republican town hall descended into chaos when a protestor was pulled from her seat, wrestled to the ground and dragged out of a packed auditorium by three unidentified private security guards.
Teresa Borrenpohl of Post Falls was asked to leave the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee meeting at Coeur d’Alene High School on Saturday after she and other activists heckled state GOP lawmakers on stage about several bills working their way through the state’s legislature.
Borrenpohl, who unsuccessfully ran for a seat in the Idaho House as a Democrat in November, said she was “seized” after speaking against state Representative Ron Mendive, she told the Couer d’Alene/Post Falls Press.
“Please get up, or you will be escorted out,” Kootenai County Sheriff Robert Norris can be heard saying in a video circulating on social media. Borrenpohl said she didn’t recognize Norris at first when he approached her in the dimly lit room wearing jeans and a baseball cap.
“Who the f*** are you?,” Borrenpohl repeatedly asked Norris as he filmed the encounter in the background.

Meanwhile, the event’s emcee Ed Bejarana taunted the woman over the tannoy system.
“Just look at this. This little girl is afraid to leave. She spoke up and now she doesn’t want to suffer the consequences,” he said. Bejarana accused Borrenpohl and others of “filibustering” as he discussed Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.
After Borrenpohl eventually appeared to recognize the sheriff, one of the men walked towards the woman.
“Excuse me Sheriff Norris… this guy is assaulting me,” she said.

“You, out now. Get her out” Norris replied pointing at Borrenpohl, leading to a second man approaching her.
“Is this your deputy?,” Borrenpohl continued to ask with no response. “Who the f*** are these men? Who are you?”
A third unidentified man then rushed to support as Borrenpohl was dragged to the floor by the wrists and ankles.
Shouts of “step away from her” and “you’re hurting her” can be heard coming from the crowd in the video. Other women are seen holding signs in silent protest, displaying messages such as “Save Voter-Approved Medicaid.”
“Just cooperate, it’ll be 100 times better,” one of the men told Borrenpohl.

After refusing, she was again pulled from her seat before one of the men flopped on her.
Borrepohl was later cited and released for misdemeanor battery after allegedly biting one of the plain-clothed security guards, according to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.
Police Chief Lee White confirmed Sunday that the three men who dragged Borrenpohl from the meeting worked for LEAR Asset Management, a private security firm. Coeur d’Alene city code requires security personnel to wear uniforms “clearly marked” with the word “security.”
Norris, along with town hall organizers, claimed they had no knowledge of the security personnel or who hired them, according to the Couer d’Alene/Post Falls Press

The sheriff said he was invited to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the town hall and remained onsite due to a recent threat against state Representative Jordan Redman.
The Kootenai County Republican Central Committee condemned the woman’s actions, and in a statement released Sunday, said: “The group vocally cheered any mention of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, erupting in applause and chants, while loudly booing every reference to the ****** or President Donald Trump, drawing sharp rebukes from attendees.”
The Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea also issued a statement Sunday.
“Our Democracy rests on our First Amendment rights. If we can’t question leaders elected to represent us without fear of reprisal, we are not free,” she said.
Necochea said that Kootenai County Republicans “did not intend to allow dialogue between legislators and constituents they serve,” adding that it was a “very sad day” watching Borrenpohl being dragged out by the guards and taunted by the moderator.
The Independent has contacted the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee, Kootenai County Sherriff’s Office and LEAR Asset Management for more information.

Asus Announces Fragrance Mouse That Probably Smells Better Than Your Sweat-Soaked One
Asus has announced a new mouse, and while it looks like a casual device that’ll appeal to any cottagecore enthusiast with its soft pastel colors, it does have a neat trick up its proverbial sleeve in the form of an oil diffuser. That’s right: this mouse has an “internal fragrance compartment” for aromatic oils, perfect for anyone who wants to keep their workstation smelling fresh and not like weeks of accumulated hand-sweat odor.

Asus says that the removable vial can be washed and refilled with different scents, so you can customize it to your olfactory preferences. As for colors, it’ll be available in Iridescent White and Rose Clay. Beyond its gimmick, this Asus mouse is one that’s primarily focused on its looks.
The gentle colors are easy on the eyes, and internally, it has 10-million-click-lifespan switches, built-in dual-mode connectivity with 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth technology, and an ergonomic profile that favors right-handed users. It’s not exactly built for stressful gaming sessions, but it’ll more than suffice as a portable mouse that’ll fit in nicely with a minimalist PC desktop setup.
Pricing and a release date have not yet been revealed, but if you are looking to freshen up your space, you can get a regular diffuser at an affordable price. If you’re in the market for a new mouse, you’re spoiled for choice these days with all of the models currently available from a wide range of manufacturers.
Sure, these won’t be squirting out pleasant scents to mask the smell of a particularly vigorous session of Call of Duty: Warzone, but they do have high DPS settings, lightweight designs, and superb ergonomics.

As Trump Courts Putin, China’s Leader Xi Emphasizes Close Ties With Russia
As Trump Courts Putin, China’s Leader Xi Emphasizes Close Ties With Russia
China’s leader said his country and Russia were “true friends who have been through thick and thin together” after a video call with President Vladimir V. Putin on Monday, according to ******** state media.
The warm words attributed to Xi Jinping were clearly intended to dampen speculation that the Trump administration might succeed in driving a wedge between Beijing and Moscow.
“History and reality show us that China and Russia are good neighbors who won’t move away, and true friends who have been through thick and thin together, support each other and develop together,” Mr. Xi was quoted as saying by ******** state media.
Mr. Xi said relations between China and Russia were not “affected by any third party,” in what appeared to be an oblique reference to the United States. And he said the two countries’ foreign policies were for the “long term.”
The Kremlin issued a similarly cordial statement after the call, describing Mr. Xi and Mr. Putin’s conversation as “warm and friendly.” In a rebuff of the idea that President Trump could divide the two countries, the Kremlin added: “The leaders emphasized that the Russian-******** foreign policy link is the most important stabilizing factor in world affairs,” and said the relationship was “not subject to external influence.”
The call was the second between Mr. Xi and Mr. Putin in just over a month, coming less than two weeks after Mr. Trump upended U.S. strategy toward Russia by holding a phone call with Mr. Putin and appearing to side with him over the war in Ukraine. Mr. Trump blamed Ukraine for instigating Russia’s invasion, called President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine a “dictator” and excluded Kyiv from peace negotiations.
Mr. Trump’s decision to side so favorably with Mr. Putin on the war has fueled speculation that Washington was aiming to split Russia and China, a country that some senior Trump officials consider a far more serious threat to U.S. interests.
Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, told a panel earlier this month in Munich that the Trump administration was hoping to “force” Mr. Putin to fray his ties with North Korea, Iran and China.
Analysts, however, have expressed skepticism that China and Russia can be driven apart in what is being called a “reverse Nixon,” a reference to President Nixon’s rapprochement with Beijing in 1972 that was aimed at exploiting the worsening relations between China and the Soviet Union.
Unlike 53 years ago, ties between China and Russia today are at a high. Shortly before the invasion of Ukraine, Mr. Xi and Mr. Putin heralded a “no limits” partnership. Since then, China has sustained Russia’s war machine with oil purchases and exports of dual use technologies.
Mr. Xi and Mr. Putin also share an ideological opposition to the West. They blame the United States for holding back their global ambitions, and promote a reshaping of the global order to weaken Washington’s dominance.
“There’s strategic and geopolitical alignment for this relationship,” said Sergey Radchenko, a professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies who specializes in ********-Russian relations. “They don’t see eye to eye on everything, but I think they both realize they need each other.”
Mr. Radchenko said Beijing was probably feeling uncomfortable with Mr. Trump’s bid to court Mr. Putin, but that it was unlikely that Mr. Putin would see his interests better served by aligning more closely with the United States over China.
“The idea that Putin can be manipulated as some kind of weapon against China, I think that’s naïve on the part of the Trump administration,” he said.
Mr. Xi is set to visit Moscow in May to attend the commemorations of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, according to Russian state media.
The Kremlin said in a statement that Mr. Putin had informed Mr. Xi during their call about “recent Russian-American contacts.” It also said China had “expressed support for the dialogue between Russia and the United States that has begun, as well as readiness to contribute to the search for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.”
In the comments published by ******** state media, Mr. Xi said he was “pleased” that Russia had started negotiations with “other parties” to end the “Ukrainian crisis.”
China has yet to describe Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a “war.”

From ChatGPT to NotebookLM, these are the 10 best free AI productivity tools to help you get things done
From ChatGPT to NotebookLM, these are the 10 best free AI productivity tools to help you get things done
AI-powered assistants are evolving. With Apple set to roll out a major Siri upgrade later this year and Samsung going all in on its Galaxy AI strategy with the S25, AI assistants are becoming more capable, integrated, and, hopefully, useful. But they aren’t the only ones shaping the future of digital assistance.
The rise of AI chatbots, like ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini, has introduced a new era of digital assistants that go beyond the voice commands we’re used to. These tools can engage in complex conversations, generate text, analyze information, and even help with coding, research, and content creation. Unlike traditional voice assistants, they’re designed to be interactive and adaptable, making them valuable productivity partners in a wide range of tasks, too.
But are any of these AI tools actually making us more productive? AI-generated art and content have sparked debate about plagiarism and creativity. But many people seem to be getting the most value from AI when it takes the role of an assistant rather than a replacement. When used as a productivity partner to streamline tasks, provide insights, and organize work, AI can make a big difference in your day.
If you’re looking for an AI tool to boost your productivity, there are plenty of options to choose from. Some act as chatbots and help with a range of tasks, others serve as search engine replacements, and some focus on organization, scheduling, and workflow automation. Below, we’ll explore the best AI assistants available today, including a mixture of different types and use cases.
ChatGPT
(Image credit: Iryna Imago via Shutterstock)
One of the most well-known AI assistants, ChatGPT (created by OpenAI) is an extremely versatile chatbot that can help with all sorts of tasks. Think summarizing articles and brainstorming ideas through to drafting emails, generating code, and even providing explanations on complex topics. Available in both free and paid tiers, the premium version offers access to more advanced capabilities, including faster responses and enhanced reasoning skills.
Best for: Brainstorming, coding, research, writing and general AI-powered assistance.
Claude
Claude is an AI assistant created by Anthropic, a company focused on AI safety and research. It’s similar to ChatGPT in that it’s a chatbot that’s designed to do much more than chat, like engage in nuanced conversations and handle complex tasks, including analysis, writing, and coding. While Claude doesn’t have real-time access to the internet, it does a good job at working with any information you give it, whether that’s documents, data, or images. Users tend to like it for providing detailed, thoughtful responses and handling more sensitive topics.
Best for: In-depth analysis, document processing, and professional applications like writing, coding, and research assistance.
Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot is a chatbot and AI assistant that you can access via the web and apps, but it’s also integrated into the Microsoft 365 suite, helping you work with applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. It offers a range of features designed to improve productivity, like assisting with drafting, editing, and summarizing documents in work. Or managing emails and summarizing threads in Outlook. Or summarizing meetings and highlighting key action items in Teams. It’s available to Microsoft 365 subscribers, with additional premium features – like access to the latest AI models and early advanced features – accessible through a Microsoft Copilot Pro subscription.
Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.
Best for: People who use Microsoft 365 apps for work, general productivity, creating documents, managing emails, making presentations.
Google Gemini and Google Assistant
Google offers two AI tools designed to enhance productivity in different ways, depending on what you’re looking for: Google Gemini and Google Assistant.
Google Gemini is a powerful AI model that competes with ChatGPT and it’s designed for tasks like creating content, analyzing data, and answering complex questions. Like Microsoft’s Copilot, it also integrates with Google Workspace apps, like Gmail, Docs, and Slides, offering AI-powered assistance for writing, summarizing, and brainstorming. You can use it for free, but advanced features are available through the Google One AI Premium plan.
On the other hand, Google Assistant is AI-powered, but it’s a voice-activated tool built for everyday tasks. So it’s created to help with scheduling, reminders, managing calendars, controlling smart home devices, and hands-free commands on phones, speakers, and smart displays.
Best for: Gemini is a good choice for professionals looking for AI-powered content generation and research, while Google Assistant is perfect for those who want a hands-free, voice-controlled assistant.
Siri
Siri is Apple’s voice-activated, AI assistant and it’s built into Apple devices. It excels at hands-free tasks like sending messages, setting reminders, and controlling smart home devices. Because AI is in everything at the moment, it’s worth making it clear that unlike AI chatbots like ChatGPT, which are designed for conversation and content generation, Siri focuses on quick, action-based commands instead. However, a recent Siri update means it can now do more than ever and actually calls on ChatGPT (if you grant it permission) to provide more detailed and context-aware responses.
A major upgrade is expected to come to Siri with iOS 18.5, which could bring smarter context awareness and on-screen content recognition, as well as much more. These improvements will help Siri handle more complex tasks that involve a lot of steps – hopefully making it more intuitive and useful.
Best for: Those who want a voice-controlled assistant for managing daily tasks, accessing quick information, and controlling other Apple devices.
Other options to consider
Not all AI tools work as multi-purpose productivity partners – many are designed for more specific tasks. If you don’t need a general AI helper but want support in a particular area, these specialized tools could be a better fit.
Otter: For example, Otter is an AI-powered transcription service that’s invaluable for anyone who regularly conducts interviews or attends meetings and needs fast, accurate transcriptions.
Perplexity: Perplexity is an AI-powered search engine that brings you more context-aware answers, making it ideal for those who need help with research or fact-checking.
NotebookLM: Google’s NotebookLM is also designed for summarizing notes and helping users organize information more effectively. Think of it like a research companion that can use advanced language models to help you process and refine your ideas.
Grammarly: Similarly, Grammarly is a good option for those who write a lot in their roles and don’t want an AI tool to do it for them, but need assistance with proofing and spell-checking.
Jasper: Jasper is an AI writing and marketing tool, that helps businesses and creators create and refine content for marketing, like email newsletters and blog posts.
By focusing on specific use cases and doing one or two jobs really well, these tools provide targeted support, making them useful alternatives to more general AI assistants.
Things to consider before choosing an AI assistant
AI assistants can be incredibly useful, but there are a few key factors to keep in mind beyond the basics – like whether you like the user experience, if it meets your needs, and if it fits your budget.
Firstly, it’s important to understand how it handles your data. Some AI tools store and analyze what you ask them or the data you give them to improve performance, while others prioritize privacy by keeping interactions local or encrypted. If data security is a concern for you, then do check whether the assistant retains, shares, or sells your data, and take a moment to review its privacy policy.
If you only need an AI assistant for one or two tasks, then you can use it as a standalone tool. But some of the options above can streamline your workflow across multiple platforms, so you’ll need to make sure it integrates with other things, like your email, calendar, project management tools, and editors.
In the same vein, it’s worth thinking about whether you want an AI assistant that’ll perform tasks without you prompting it. Some AI assistants take a proactive approach, automating tasks like scheduling, summarizing emails, or generating content without needing input.
The good news is that many of these options offer free tiers or trial periods, so you can test their features before you commit. Since everyone’s needs and preferences are different, we recommend experimenting with a few of the different options so you can find the right fit for you.
Are AI assistants worth it?
AI assistants and chatbots are becoming more advanced, and more people are adding them into their daily routines. While some see these tools as gimmicks or unnecessary, others find them game-changing for managing tasks, boosting productivity, and streamlining their workflows.
Whether they’ll evolve into indispensable tools we all use for the long term remains to be seen. But with major developments on the horizon from Apple, Samsung, and other major players in tech, the future of AI assistants looks promising.

You can play Connections on the New York Times website or with the NYT Games app on iOS or Android.
In Connections, you’ll be shown a grid containing 16 words — your objective is to organize these words into four sets of four by identifying the connections that link them. These sets could encompass concepts like titles of video game franchises, book series sequels, shades of red, names of chain restaurants, etc.
There are generally words that seem like they could fit multiple themes, but there’s only one 100% correct answer. You’re able to shuffle the grid of words and rearrange them to help better see the potential connections.
Each group is color-coded. The yellow group is the easiest to figure out, followed by the green, blue, and purple groups.
Pick four words and hit Submit. If you’re correct, the four words will be removed from the grid and the theme connecting them will be revealed. Guess incorrectly and it’ll count as a mistake. You only have four mistakes available until the game ends.

Wyna Liu, who has been editing puzzles at The New York Times since 2020, edits Connections daily.
“A few months ago, a new assignment crossed my desk: Create the game boards for Connections, a category matching game that had recently been greenlighted and was in search of an editor,” wrote Liu in an article explaining her process in June 2024. Most of my puzzle experience has been working with crosswords, and I was excited at the chance to try something different. I’ve enjoyed learning how puzzle editing plays out once a game is greenlighted, and seeing how our team fits into a larger ecosystem.”

Leaked RTX 5070 benchmarks show mixed results against RTX 4070 Super, 18% slower than RTX 5070 Ti
Leaked RTX 5070 benchmarks show mixed results against RTX 4070 Super, 18% slower than RTX 5070 Ti
As we approach the official launch next month, the first wave of leaked RTX 5070 benchmarks has started to arrive on Geekbench. According to these figures, across the OpenCL and Vulkan APIs, the RTX 5070 fails to definitively beat the RTX 4070 Super. Sadly, that has been the norm with Blackwell and budget counterparts seemingly are no exception. However, Geekbench results are extremely inconsistent and don’t always reflect how the GPU will hold up in real-world scenarios. Thus, it’s advised you season this leak with an unhealthy sprinkling of salt.
The RTX 5070 is powered by a slightly cut-down GB205 die under the hood with 48 SMs or 6,144 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR7 memory. Jensen is now infamously quoted stating the RTX 5070 is equivalent to the RTX 4090 (with MFG); quite misleading for the average consumer. In raw-raster, we speculate the RTX 5070 may struggle to surpass even the RTX 4070 Super, given the reduced shading units. The GPU carries a modest 250W TBP (Total Board Power) and an MSRP of $549, though launch prices and availability might be extremely volatile.
An identical setup used for both benchmarks suggests they were likely conducted by the same reviewer who made the results public by mistake. The test bench is outfitted with the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D atop the Asus ROG Crosshair X870E Hero motherboard, side-by-side with 32GB of DDR5 memory. We’ve gathered publicly available OpenCL and Vulkan results at Geekbench, but bear in mind these benchmarks might be subject to inconsistencies and variations.
The alleged RTX 5070 managed to score 187,414 and 188,712 points in OpenCL and Vulkan respectively, marking an up-to 20% lead over the base RTX 4070. Versus the RTX 4070 Super, Vulkan sees the RTX 5070’s lead drop to around 5%, while it ends up slower in OpenCL. Provided the massive difference in specs and pricing, the RTX 5070 Ti is in another league, as its non-Ti counterpart trails by 18%.

AMD’s RDNA 4 is expected to shake up the $500-$600 market within the next couple of days. Leaked benchmark results intended for the press suggest the RX 9070 non-XT to be 21% faster than the RX 7900 GRE in 4K; in the same performance range as the RTX 4070 Super. The RX 9070 XT on the flipside allegedly scores a 42% uplift, putting it near an RX 7900 XTX or the unnecessarily verbose RTX 4070 Ti Super. All that’s left is the pricing and we’ll soon learn more from AMD on February 28.

Barry Ferguson: Rangers appoint ex-captain as interim bossm assisted by Neil McCann & Billy Dodds
Barry Ferguson has been appointed interim Rangers manager following Philippe Clement’s departure, with Neil McCann, Billy Dodds and Allan McGregor assisting the former club captain.
The ex-Rangers and Scotland team-mates’ first game in the dugout will be Wednesday’s Scottish Premiership trip to Kilmarnock (20:00 GMT).
Assistant manager Issame Charai led training on Monday.
Clement left Ibrox on Sunday, a day after a 2-0 home defeat by St Mirren left Rangers 13 points behind league leaders Celtic.
Ferguson, 47, previously managed Clyde, Kelty Hearts and Alloa Athletic, while McCann, 50, has had spells in charge of Dundee and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Dodds, 56, was Ross County assistant and later managed Inverness, while goalkeeper McGregor, 43, had two spells with Rangers.
Midfielder Ferguson and winger McCann helped Rangers win two domestic trebles, with the former winning five league titles and 15 trophies over two spells.

Adventures of a Cat in Space brings furry feline antics to outer space, out now on iOS
Adventures of a Cat in Space brings furry feline antics to outer space, out now on iOS
Adventures of a Cat in Space is out now for iOS
This cutesy point-and-click adventure features a full soundtrack by children’s composer David Gibb
Meanwhile, Doctor Who fans will note the vocal talents of Arthur Darvill as the ship’s computer
When it comes to rocket launches everything, down to a microgram, has to be accounted for in order to ensure that this delicate aerospace instrument makes it to orbit. So I don’t know who in the space programme shown in Adventures of a Cat in Space was slacking off, but somehow they managed to omit having a cat on board!
Yes, Adventures of a Cat in Space is one of the more interesting point-and-click adventure releases recently. Out now on iOS it mixes in the typical fun of an unbelievable situation (cat shot into orbit) and devious, fiendishly-obtuse puzzles for players to solve.
More interestingly it’s also part musical! Yes, there are not just puzzles to solve but also an integrated original soundtrack from popular children’s music composer David Gibb to boot. Not only that but Doctor Who fans will notice the familiar voice of Arthur Darvill lending his vocal talent to the rocket ship’s computer!
Cough, hairball
Yes, if it wasn’t clear enough from the subject matter alone it should by now be obvious that Adventures of a Cat in Space is very much an all-ages release. Suitable for both adults and kids it’ll likely resonate more with the latter, but if you have children you want to introduce to gaming this could be a comfortable title that might demand a parent’s intervention for the more difficult puzzles.
Admittedly for the rest of us I reckon it may fall a little more on the cutesy end of the spectrum to be palatable, especially with the musical jingles added in. But if you can look past that Adventures of a Cat in Space offers a weird, cutesy new point-and-click adventure.
But if you’re looking for more in the vein of classic puzzles, look no further than some of our lists on just that subject. Take a dig into our list of the top 25 best puzzle games for iOS and Android to find out more!

Industrials Are Quietly Outpacing the Market: 3 Stocks to Watch
Industrials Are Quietly Outpacing the Market: 3 Stocks to Watch
The industrials sector, represented by The Industrial Select Sector SPDR® Fund (NYSE:), has been a quiet outperformer so far in 2025, posting a 5.2% gain compared to the benchmark’s 4.3%. What’s even more notable is that the sector ETF’s current positioning suggests the potential for further upside, given its technical setup. Having consolidated for nearly a month, XLI appears to be edging closer to a potential breakout higher, especially as the broader market continues to reach new all-time highs.
With this outperformance, strong inflows into the sector, and an overall bullish setup, it’s worth looking at industrials and some of the most attractive individual stocks within the sector.
The Industrial Sector Has Outperformed the Benchmark in 2025
The industrial sector has outpaced the broader market in 2025 due to several key catalysts. One of the most significant drivers is the trend of reshoring, where manufacturing operations are returning to domestic markets. This shift is driven by geopolitical stability concerns, supply chain resilience, and favorable government policies encouraging local production. As a result, industries such as aerospace, machinery, construction, and transportation, all significant components of XLI, are benefiting substantially.
Furthermore, technological advancements in automation, electric vehicles, and renewable energy infrastructure have fueled increased demand for industrial products. Government investments in infrastructure and defense spending have also provided strong tailwinds for the sector. Notable companies within XLI, including Caterpillar (NYSE:), Deere (NYSE:), and GE Aerospace (NYSE:), continue demonstrating strong fundamentals, contributing to the ETF’s appeal.
Another factor bolstering the sector’s performance is market rotation. Investors have shifted capital from high-growth technology stocks to cyclical industries, such as industrials, which stand to gain from economic cycles. The XLI ETF’s relatively low expense ratio of 0.09%, a dividend yield of 1.16%, and high liquidity further enhance its attractiveness, drawing increased capital inflows that amplify its performance.
While industrials remain sensitive to economic cycles and global trade dynamics, technological innovation, policy support, and investor interest have provided a solid foundation for continued growth in 2025.
Given these favorable conditions, familiarizing oneself with three of the strongest industrial stocks YTD is well worth it.
3 Industrial Giants Leading the Sector
1. Axon Enterprise Surges 19.4% YTD, Outpacing the Market
Axon Enterprise (NASDAQ:), a leading provider of law enforcement technology solutions, including less-lethal weapons, body cameras, and cloud-based software, has significantly outperformed both the sector and the broader market. As of Tuesday’s close, the stock has surged an impressive 19.4% YTD. Additionally, Axon set a new all-time high after closing at $710.01.
With its upcoming earnings report scheduled for February 25, the stock appears well-positioned for continued momentum after its recent breakout. Analysts remain bullish on Axon, maintaining a consensus Buy rating. For Q4 2024, the consensus estimate for EPS is $1.40, with projected revenue of $567.5 million. Given its strong financials, return to shareholders, and bullish technical positioning, Axon remains a standout in the industrial sector.
2. GE Stock Soars 80% Over the Past Year, Outperforming the Market
GE Aerospace (NYSE:), the largest holding within the XLI ETF, has continued its remarkable surge in 2025. The company is a global leader in jet and turboprop engines, aircraft components, and integrated aviation systems. Headquartered in Evendale, Ohio, GE Aerospace has already gained nearly 26% YTD, bringing its one-year performance to an astonishing 80% as of Tuesday’s close.
Despite its RSI beginning to creep into overbought territory, the stock remains in a strong uptrend, consolidating near all-time highs above previous resistance. GE recently delivered impressive earnings, reporting EPS of $1.32, a 27% beat over expectations, along with revenue of $9.8 billion, surpassing estimates by 4.13%. This robust earnings performance further supports the stock’s continued rally.
3. RTX Gains 7% YTD, Outpacing the Industrial Sector and Broader Market
Rtx (NYSE:), the third-largest holding in XLI, is a multinational aerospace and defense company providing advanced systems and services to commercial, military, and government customers worldwide. Although its YTD gains of nearly 7% may seem modest compared to Axon and GE Aerospace, RTX has still outpaced both the industrial sector and the broader market.
After briefly achieving new highs following an impressive earnings beat, RTX has since pulled back toward a higher timeframe support level, potentially presenting an attractive buying opportunity. The company’s Q4 2024 earnings, released on January 28, 2025, showed an EPS of $1.54, beating the consensus estimate of $1.35 by $0.19. Given its solid earnings performance and positioning, RTX remains an appealing long-term industrial play.

How to play Strands
Hint for today’s Strands puzzle
Today’s Strand answers
Strands is a brand new daily puzzle from the New York Times. A trickier take on the classic word search, you’ll need a keen eye to solve this puzzle.
Like Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, Strands can be a bit difficult to solve some days. There’s no shame in needing a little help from time to time. If you’re stuck and need to know the answers to today’s Strands puzzle, check out the solved puzzle below.
How to play Strands
You start every Strands puzzle with the goal of finding the “theme words” hidden in the grid of letters. Manipulate letters by dragging or tapping to craft words; double-tap the final letter to confirm. If you find the correct word, the letters will be highlighted blue and will no longer be selectable.
If you find a word that isn’t a theme word, it still helps! For every three non-theme words you find that are at least four letters long, you’ll get a hint — the letters of one of the theme words will be revealed and you’ll just have to unscramble it.
Every single letter on the grid is used to spell out the theme words and there is no overlap. Every letter will be used once, and only once.
Each puzzle contains one “spangram,” a special theme word (or words) that describe the puzzle’s theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. When you find the spangram, it will be highlighted yellow.
The goal should be to complete the puzzle quickly without using too many hints.

Deliverance 2’s Creative Genius Lies Not in the Story but in Its NPCs
Deliverance 2’s Creative Genius Lies Not in the Story but in Its NPCs
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has delivered and is one of 2025’s best games so far. Warhorse Studios has released a game that doesn’t just respect the original but improves upon it. The first game was known for its meticulous medieval setting and the sequel takes things further by injecting personality and charm into nearly every NPC interaction.
The game feels like the world is actually alive. | Image Credit: Warhorse Studios
From fourth-wall-breaking guards to well-placed pop culture references, you have a lot of little things to find while you follow Henry on his adventurous journey. There is a level of personality and humor rarely seen in the genre that makes the world feel like more than just scripted quests.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has some of the best easter eggs
And this guard delivers the best of them. | Image Credit: Warhorse Studios
Unlike many RPGs where generic townsfolk simply repeat the same dialogue, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 fills its world with characters who react dynamically to Henry’s actions. The best and most entertaining examples of this are by far the game’s guards. You’ll have undoubtedly spoken to some during your playthrough and you know they don’t just uphold the law, they are comedy gold.
The game is full of easter eggs and the best one is arguably from one of the guards. As found by fans, there is a guard outside a soldier camp who threatens you by saying that he will “kick your a**e to Kingdom Come… Deliverance!” The funny part is that we immediately know that it’s a nod to the first game, but when he says Deliverance! after a second it solidifies it.
Warhorse Studios has a deep love for pop culture, and it shows in not just this easter egg, but the many other ones in the game. The game has a lot of other easter eggs for other games like The Elder Scrolls, Assassin’s Creed, and even Elden Ring‘s famed player Let Me Solo Her got a reference. These are cool things to see because they give us a sense of celebration as we’re immersed in the game’s beautiful world.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is one of the biggest and most detailed open-world games of the decade, and its filled with some of the craziest easter eggs I’ve ever seen.
Here are 10 hidden & strange Easter eggs from KCD2 that you probably missed. A Thread pic.twitter.com/8UY3LgFG9Y
— Synth Potato (@SynthPotato) February 20, 2025
Aside from these easter eggs, the game has more nods to its predecessor. In a touching homage to the original development team, players also found a cave containing 11 skeletons, each appearing to be hard at work. Scattered among them are coffee cups, hand-drawn maps, and design documents, representing the small but dedicated team that brought Kingdom Come: Deliverance to life.
Warhorse Studios is only getting started
There’s a lot more coming in 2025. | Image Credit: Warhorse Studios
Warhorse Studios has made it clear that KCD2 is just getting started. The 2025 roadmap includes three major expansions that will be additional chapters in our journey with Henry. We’re getting an update this Spring, Summer, and Winter. So if you’re nearing the end of your playthrough, which you’re probably not, worry not because more content is coming.
With over 250,000 concurrent players on Steam alone, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has quickly established itself as a major success. Updates like a hardcore mode, horse racing, and additional customization options The sheer volume of positive reception highlights how much players appreciate a world
But even as the game grows, we can rest assured that the quirky, unpredictable, and endlessly entertaining NPCs will remain central. If Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has proven anything, it’s that well-crafted NPCs and immersive storytelling can make a game feel like a truly immersive world.

Cause of death of missing women was drowning
Cause of death of missing women was drowning
The official cause of death of two sisters found in a river in Aberdeen was drowning, BBC Scotland News has learned.
Henrietta and Eliza Huszti – both 32 and from a set of triplets originally from Hungary – disappeared on 7 January.
Their bodies were found in the River Dee on 31 January near where they were last seen alive, and their identities were later confirmed. Police said the deaths were not being treated as suspicious.
Their death certificates both state the single cause of death as drowning.
The disappearance of coffee shop assistant Henrietta and hotel house keeper Eliza sparked a major search operation last month.
They were last seen in the early hours of 7 January, when they crossed the Victoria Bridge and turned right onto a footpath next to the river heading towards Aberdeen Boat Club.
The sisters had visited the Victoria Bridge the day before they disappeared.
They also texted their landlady from the bridge area in the early hours of 7 January to say they were giving up their Aberdeen flat.
The two missing sisters had not told relatives they planned to imminently move out.
The first body was found near Queen Elizabeth Bridge on the morning of 31 January.
Officers continued searching and found the second body in an area of the river near to the Victoria Bridge later that evening.
The Victoria Bridge and Queen Elizabeth Bridge are about half a mile apart on the River Dee.

Apple expected to launch MacBook Air refresh with M4 silicon in March
Apple expected to launch MacBook Air refresh with M4 silicon in March
It looks like the next-gen MacBook Air laptops with the M4 silicon upgrade are merely a few weeks away. According to Bloomberg, Apple is toning down inventory of the current-gen model and is readying the M4-equipped trim for a launch in March.
Apple is unlikely to make any design changes, serving the same aesthetic formula it introduced with the M2 MacBook Air. The most notable change, of course, is going to be the M4 silicon, which enhances the processing chops and lifts the efficiency figures, as well.
The M4 silicon features 10 CPU cores (four performance cores and six efficiency cores) and an equal number of GPU cores. According to Apple, the M4 is nearly 1.8x faster than the M1, and can deliver up to 3.4x speed boost at demanding tasks like graphics rendering in Blender.
Luke Larsen / Digital Trends
An alleged Geekbench listing of the M4 MacBook Air recently surfaced online, flexing silicon brawns that nearly match the benchmark scores of the MacBook Pro. If that turns out to be true, it would be quite an impressive achievement for the fan-less entry-level Apple laptop.
Another crucial difference is the upgraded AI performance, thanks to a next-gen neural processing unit (NPU) which is said to be 3x faster. And if the M4 MacBook Pro is anything to go by, the upcoming MacBook Air will also allow users to hook it up with two monitors, in addition to the in-built display.
On the current-gen M3 MacBook Air, you have to close the laptop lid in order to power two monitors. As usual, Apple is expected to offer the M4 MacBook Air in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes. It is unlikely that these laptops are switching away from an LCD panel to a mini-LED display unit, primarily due to cost considerations.
Digital Trends
Rumors, however, claim that Apple is eying an OLED upgrade for its laptops down the road. Apple armed the M4 MacBook Pro with a 12-megapixel front camera with Center Stage tech, but it’s unclear whether the MacBook Air will also get the same treatment and ditch its uninspiring 1080p webcam.
It would be interesting to see if Apple finally brings some of the zesty iMac energy and adds a splash of new colors to the M4 MacBook Air. The M3-generation gave us the Midnight (aka dark blue) shade, while the M2 line-up stunned with its Starlight hue.
