Greeks hold mass protests demanding justice after Tempi train tragedy Greeks hold mass protests demanding justice after Tempi train tragedy Greeks are holding their biggest protests for years and taking part in a general strike to mark the second anniversary of a rail disaster that left 57 dead and dozens more injured. “I am here in memory of the people who were killed in the train ******. We demand justice,” said 13-year-old Dimitris who had come with his father Petros Polyzos to the largest rally in Greece, in Syntagma Square in downtown Athens. It was during the night of 28 February 2023 that a passenger train packed with students collided head-on with a goods train near the Tempi gorge in central Greece. An inquiry concluded on Thursday that the accident was caused by human error, poor maintenance, and inadequate staffing. The report by Greece’s Air and Rail Accident Investigation Authority warned that the safety failings exposed by the ****** had not yet been addressed: “Those children were killed because the train was not safe,” said the authority’s chief Christos Papadimitriou. The Tempi disaster shocked Greeks with many accusing their conservative government of doing too little to shed light on the causes of the tragedy. There is a widely held belief that the government has sought to cover up the role of high-ranking officials. The entire centre of Athens was crowded with people of all ages and all walks of life, with many saying they were attending a demonstration for the first time in their lives. By early afternoon, tempers flared and clashes broke out with police. Petrol bombs were thrown and police used tear gas. Dmitris and his father were among many protesters in Athens, wearing t-shirts that read “I have no oxygen – justice to the end”, referring to the 57 who died. Rallies were being organised in 346 cities, across Greece in Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Patras and Larissa, as well as in cities across Europe, including Brussels, Rome and several cities in the ***. The passenger train from Athens to Thessaloniki was crowded with students returning to university after a holiday for Greek Orthodox Lent when the collision happened as the train collided with a goods train on the same track outside Larisa. Seconds afterwards a fireball almost completely destroyed the first two carriages of the train. In Athens, protesters held placards reading “My child, call me up when you arrive” and “No cover-up”. Dina Gazi, 62, held white balloons with the names of those who died in the accident. “I firmly believe that the government is covering up those responsible for the accident”, she told BBC. “We demand that all the evidence come to light.” Shops in the centre had their shutters down, many with messages of sympathy and support in their windows, and ordinary people did not go to work. Schools were closed, flights and trains cancelled, and the only public transport still operating was taking people to and from Syntagma Square. Taxi drivers promised to take people to the protest without charge. In a post on Facebook, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that everyone’s thoughts were with the families of the 57 victims who died, as well as with the wounded and those who survived but carried the memory of that night. “Nothing will ever be the same any more,” he added, speaking of “fatal human errors coupled with chronic shortcomings of the state”. In office for almost six years, this is the first time since Mitsotakis was elected that he has been in such a difficult political position. He promised to move “more dynamically and quickly” to bring about modern and safe trains. For Greeks this mass protest was unusual in that it was unrelated to the economy and their personal finances. Thursday’s inquiry found that millions of euros had been paid out to cover the installation of safety systems along the railway, but that the project remained incomplete due to corruption and bureaucracy. Relatives of those killed in the ****** believe the goods train may have been carrying contraband fuel on behalf of a smuggling ring. “It is impossible to determine what exactly caused [the fireball], but simulations and expert reports indicate the possible presence of a hitherto unknown fuel,” the report found. “Serious information went missing because the site of the accident was not sealed,” experts say, increasing public anger and heightening speculation of a cover-up. As he stood in the midst of Friday’s protest in Syntagma Square, Pavlos Aslanidis spoke about the death of his 26-year-old son Dimitris in the Tempi accident. “I don’t know how I find the strength to stand,” he told BBC. “My son gives me the strength. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here today demanding justice.” Source link #Greeks #hold #mass #protests #demanding #justice #Tempi #train #tragedy Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Remote US federal employees get ultimatum to move to Washington Remote US federal employees get ultimatum to move to Washington By Alexandra Alper and Tim Reid WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. government’s human resources agency has told at least two dozen employees they have just nine days to decide whether to relocate to Washington, a move labor unions and governance experts say is another ploy by the Trump administration to force federal workers to quit. The Office of Personnel Management sent an email on Wednesday to remote workers, some of whom live thousands of miles from Washington, telling them they are being relocated to the U.S. capital and have until March 7 to decide whether to accept the move, according to two people familiar with the directive and copies of the email seen by Reuters. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. The memo tells the OPM employees that if they decline to move to Washington their options for “continued employment with this agency may be limited, and the Agency may pursue an adverse action against you.” It notes they may be eligible for severance pay. While President Donald Trump and his cost-cutting czar Elon Musk, who heads up the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, have made clear they want to relocate Washington-based federal workers to other parts of the country, this appears to be the first time they are demanding remote employees move to the capital. At least two of the workers who received the email told Reuters they were already considering leaving OPM. A third source said at least 200 people had received the memo. OPM, DOGE and the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Nick Bednar, a governance expert at the University of Minnesota Law School, said government agencies have the right to relocate workers and fire them if they refuse to move, but the short notice given to the OPM employees is “abnormal.” “Giving them this short relocation notice is clearly an effort to get them to quit, to force them from their position. It’s another way to cut the size of government.” The National Federation of Federal Employees, a union which represents 110,000 government workers, said this was the first time it was aware of that the Trump administration had told people to relocate to Washington. “It’s another attack on the civil service and to force people to quit,” said Steve Lenkart, executive director of the union. The OPM ultimatum is striking because on the same day it was sent to remote employees, Trump ordered government agencies to submit plans by April 14 to relocate offices out of the Washington area “to less-costly parts of the country.” New FBI director Kash Patel has already ordered about 1,500 employees out of the Washington area to field offices around the country, including roughly 500 to Alabama. Trump and Musk are undertaking a culling of the federal workforce, which they view as bloated and corrupt. While there is bipartisan agreement on the need to reform the civil service, unions and federal workers have complained about Musk’s blunt-force approach. About 100,000 workers out of the 2.3 million-strong federal civilian workforce have already been fired or taken buyouts. Trump this week ordered government agencies to undertake more large-scale layoffs, and a new Trump administration memo instructed agencies to submit plans by March 13 for a “significant reduction” in staffing. AI-generated child abuse global hit leads to dozens of arrests AI-generated child abuse global hit leads to dozens of arrests At least 25 arrests have been made during a worldwide operation against child abuse images generated by artificial intelligence (AI), the European Union’s law enforcement organisation Europol has said. The suspects were part of a criminal group whose members engaged in distributing fully AI-generated images of minors, according to the agency. The operation is one of the first involving such child ******* abuse material, Europol says. The lack of national legislation against these crimes made it “exceptionally challenging for investigators”, it added. Arrests were made simultaneously on Wednesday 26 February during Operation Cumberland, led by Danish law enforcement, a press release said. Authorities from at least 18 other countries have been involved and the operation is still continuing, with more arrests expected in the next few weeks, Europol said. In addition to the arrests, so far 272 suspects have been identified, 33 house searches have been conducted and 173 electronic devices have been seized, according to the agency. It also said the main suspect was a Danish national who was arrested in November 2024. The statement said he “ran an online platform where he distributed the AI-generated material he produced”. After making a “symbolic online payment”, users from around the world were able to get a password that allowed them to “access the platform and watch children being abused”. Europol’s executive director Catherine De Bolle said: “These artificially generated images are so easily created that they can be produced by individuals with criminal intent, even without substantial technical knowledge.” She warned law enforcement would need to develop “new investigative methods and tools” to address the emerging challenges. The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) warns that more ******* abuse AI images of children are being produced and becoming more prevalent on the open web. In research last year the charity found that over a one-month *******, 3,512 AI child ******* abuse and exploitation images were discovered on one dark website. Compared with a month in the previous year, the number of the most severe category images (Category A) had risen by 10%. Experts say AI child ******* abuse material can often look incredibly realistic, making it difficult to tell the real from the fake. Pam Bondi Becomes Bipartisan Laughingstock After Epstein Document Dump Flop Pam Bondi Becomes Bipartisan Laughingstock After Epstein Document Dump Flop U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi seemed to briefly unite the online political spectrum under one banner Thursday after failing to deliver any new information on the notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The backlash toward Bondi exploded after she repeatedly promised to release never-before-seen files relating to Epstein, hyping up the document dump for days as bombshell developments that had the potential to reshape the U.S. political and cultural conversation. When the moment finally came, however, promises appeared to be broken. During an appearance on Fox News Wednesday, Bondi told host Jesse Watters that “some Epstein information” including flight logs and names would be released by her office the next day which she guaranteed would “make you sick.” The move was a key pillar in the Trump administration’s broader goal of thinning the glass between the public and the government in pursuit of transparency. But the information released by the Justice Department Thursday seemed to be entirely comprised of information that had already been made public over the past decade as a result of multiple cases against Epstein and those in his inner circle. The rug-pull angered many on both sides of the political aisle. “I nor the task force were given or reviewed the Epstein documents being released today… A NY Post story just revealed that the documents will simply be Epstein’s phonebook,” Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, who was recently picked to lead a task force on ending government secrecy, wrote on X Thursday. “THIS IS NOT WHAT WE OR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ASKED FOR and a complete disappointment. GET US THE INFORMATION WE ASKED FOR!” Making matters worse was the way the administration rolled out the documents’ release: By inviting more than a dozen far-right influencers to the White House, handing them a glossy binder full of sordid allegations and allowing them to take glamour shots with the documents outside 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Onetime Trump confidante and far-right influencer Laura Loomer, who was not invited to the soiree, also criticized Bondi Thursday, taking repeated jabs at the White House’s “stunt.” She even declared in one X post: “There is one person who takes the blame for what happened today. It’s @PamBondi. I think she should resign. “She went on Fox News and said the files were on her desk. Then she went on Fox News last night and said we would have files today. She is a total liar. Just face it,” Loomer concluded. Democrats, including Reps. Eric Swalwell and Jared Moskowitz, decried the lackluster reveal, with Swalwell posting a image to X showing a page of redacted lines, adding, “You were promised the full Epstein files. You got this.” Moskowitz, reacting to the document dump on CNN Thursday night, said “I have never seen the Left and the Right come together in a moment [like this].” For her part, Bondi was quick to point fingers at the FBI, blaming the agency’s Field Office in New York of holding “thousands of pages of documents” related to Epstein. She wrote in a letter to newly minted director Kash Patel that the bureau “never disclosed the existence of” the additional documents to her. “When you and I spoke yesterday, you were just as surprised as I was to learn this new information,” Bondi continued, seemingly absolving Patel of blame. “By 8:00 am tomorrow, February 28, the FBI will deliver the full and complete Epstein files to my office,” Bondi continued, requesting client lists, video footage, audio recordings and more. “There will be no withholding or limitations to my or your access. The Department of Justice will ensure that any public disclosure of these files will be done in a manner to protect the privacy of victims and in accordance with law, as I have done my entire career as a prosecutor.” She also asked Patel to conduct an immediate investigation into why her order was “not followed,” and asked for a report to be sent back within 14 days. Bondi’s rapid turnaround did not go unnoticed by even the staunchest supporters of her boss. Fox News host Jesse Watters focused his Thursday show on the saga, and seemingly took Bondi at her word that she had been bamboozled by the FBI. He boiled the past 24 hours down to: “When we began to feel duped, Pam Bondi released a letter basically saying I was duped too.” Source link #Pam #Bondi #Bipartisan #Laughingstock #Epstein #Document #Dump #Flop Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Major *** banks hit by payday digital banking problems again Major *** banks hit by payday digital banking problems again Customers of multiple banks have reported problems banking online, as they struggle to access services on payday for the second month running. The problems came two days after the details were revealed of how IT failures have affected banks over the past two years. At the end of January, customers of Barclays Bank were left unable to access app and online banking services following a major IT outage that lasted three days. The latest problems, yet again on payday, have hit Lloyds Bank, Nationwide, TSB and Nationwide, according to outage monitoring organisation Downdetector. One senior banking IT professional said that if a number of banks experience problems at the same time it points to a relating factor. “If it’s lots of banks, it makes me think there’s a common denominator like they’re using a supplier or software that’s shared by multiple banks, because it would be coincidental for several of them to go down on the same day,” they said. Further pointing to a potential problem with external IT, they added that in their experience, banks try to avoid making IT changes at the end of the month. “End of the month is normally a time banks avoid making changes,” they added. “For example, financing departments inside the banks do not like the risk of chaos at an unprecedented end of the month because they’re month-end accounting and don’t want technology problems.” In contrast, he said the problems at Barclays pointed to something related to an internal change. The problems come just days after a deadline set by MPs on the Treasury Committee for *** bank bosses to provide information on the scale and impact of IT failures over the past two years. The questions set by MPs for Barclays included what caused the latest outage and how it affected customers, as well as how the bank intended to prevent such a failure from happening again. The other eight bank bosses were asked to provide an overview of the number of instances and amount of time in total services have been unavailable to customers due to IT failure over the past two years, how many customers have been affected, the amount of compensation that has been paid to their customers, and a description of the reason for the failures. You can read the letters to the bank CEOs here. Following the Barclay’s problems, Treasury Committee chair Meg Hillier MP said: “When a bank’s IT system goes down, it can be a real problem for our constituents, who were relying on accessing certain services so they can buy food or pay bills. For it to happen at a major bank such as Barclays at such a crucial time of year is either bad luck or bad planning. Either way, it’s important to learn what has happened and what will be done about it.” She added that the closure of high street branches in favour of online banking means bank crashes hit customers harder. “The rapidly declining number of high street bank branches makes the impact of IT outages even more painful; that’s why I’ve decided to write to some of our biggest banks and building societies,” said Hillier. Minister questions how Tate brothers could leave Romania Minister questions how Tate brothers could leave Romania Romania’s Justice Minister Radu Marinescu has called for a public explanation into why controversial social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate were allowed to leave the country on Thursday. The brothers – who are currently facing charges including human trafficking in Romania – had been under a travel ban for more than two years before it was lifted, allowing them to fly to the US. Marinescu has asked the special prosecution service, Dilcot, to “conduct any investigation necessary to uncover the truth”. Andrew, 38, and his brother Tristan, 36, have strongly denied the allegations against them. The brothers are dual US-*** citizens, and were first arrested in Romania in 2022. They are accused of human trafficking and forming an organised group to ********* exploit women in Romania. Andrew Tate is also accused of *****. In the US they also face a civil case from a woman who alleges the brothers coerced her into sex work, and then defamed her after she gave evidence to Romanian authorities. The brothers also face separate charges in the *** of ***** and human trafficking. They spent several months under house arrest in Romania, before prosecutors announced on Thursday that the travel ban had been lifted, and the pair’s US passports had been returned to them, even though investigations into their alleged crimes had not been dropped and they were expected to return to Romania. Their exit however, has sparked concerns that prosecutors felt political pressure from the Trump administration. On Thursday, the US president said he knew nothing about their release. Romania’s justice minister said the Tate brothers “risk pre-trial detention” if they fail to return to Romania to face continued investigation in the cases against them. “There are legal mechanisms in place to resolve this situation,” Marinescu said, which could be a reference to the extradition treaty between the US and Romania. The call comes as many Romanians express concern that there appears to be one law for the rich and influential, and another for ordinary citizens. iPhone 17e Could Launch Around the Same Time as the iPhone 16e Next Year iPhone 17e Could Launch Around the Same Time as the iPhone 16e Next Year Apple announced the iPhone 16e earlier this month as the newest member of its iPhone 16 family. The latest iPhone with Apple’s first cellular modem and A18 chip went on ***** in India today, but details about the iPhone 17e have already started circulating online. A new leak reveals the possible launch timeline of the Phone 16e successor. The iPhone 17e is expected to go official a few months after the launch of the iPhone 17 series. iPhone 17e Could Debut in February 2026 According to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) analysts, Apple’s “e” series phones could be part of the programme going forward. The company will reportedly launch the iPhone 17e ‘around this time next year’ which means February 2026. The launch of core iPhone 17 models is said to take place in September this year. The lineup is believed to include iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models. By launching an affordable iPhone 17e in February after the major launch event in September, Apple could be trying to imitate Google’s Pixel series launch pattern. The brand unveils flagship Pixel phones in its annual spring launch event, and releases the cheaper Pixel A series phones around its annual Google I/O event in May. Apple did not stick to a systematic launch timeline for the iPhone SE models. The first iPhone SE came in March 2016. The second iPhone SE was released in April 2020, while the third-generation model was launched in March 2022. The CIRP report further states that Apple is trying to replace the success of 2013’s iPhone 5C with the new iPhone 16e. The analysts expect the iPhone 16e to do better based on its features and positioning, at the expense of other iPhone models. iPhone 16e Price, Specifications The iPhone 16e is priced at Rs. 59,900 for the base model with 128GB of storage. The 256GB and 512GB storage configurations are priced at Rs. 69,900 and Rs. 89,900, respectively. It is currently up for ***** in India. iPhone 16e ships with Apple’s custom C1 modem and runs on iOS 18. It supports Face ID and has a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a 60Hz refresh rate. It runs on an A18 chip and supports Apple Intelligence features. On the rear, the new iPhone has a 48-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera on the front for selfies and video calls. It has IP68 rating for dust and water resistance and includes USB Type-C port for charging. The phone supports 18W wired charging and 7.5W wireless charging. Federal election 2025: Anthony Albanese promises to put draught beer tax on ice in crafty vote-winning move Federal election 2025: Anthony Albanese promises to put draught beer tax on ice in crafty vote-winning move Anthony Albanese is promising Australians looking for their next shout that he will put beer taxes on ice for two years after the election. The draught beer excise usually increases twice a year with the most recent hike of just over 1 per cent at the start of February. But the Prime Minister — whose inner-west Sydney electorate is known as the craft beer capital of Australia — has promised to freeze it at current levels for two years starting from August. “Freezing the excise on draught beer is a common sense measure that is good for beer drinkers, good for brewers and good for pubs,” Mr Albanese said. While the indexation on the excise only accounted for a small percentage of the cost of a pint, keeping it a the same level was good news for pubs and their patrons. “My Government is building Australia’s future, and to do that we need to support our small and medium local businesses to thrive,” he said. The measure will cost the budget $95 million over four years in tax foregone. “This is a modest change but will help take a little bit of the pressure off beer drinkers, brewers and bars,” Treasurer Jim Chalmers said. Last weekend, the government announced tax relief for distillers, brewers and wine producers, who will be able to get a refund on any excise paid — up to $400,000 — starting from July 2026. Austrade will also offer *********** distillers, brewers and vignerons support to help them increase exports to high priority overseas markets, including in southeast Asia. The announcement, while it may be welcomed by the hospitality industry and alcohol consumers, does not fully chime with national drinking trends. In 2024, the average sales volume per capita of alcoholic beer in Australia came to around 49.6 litres, a slight decrease from the previous year and the continuation of the downward trend in per capita volume, according to Statista. In comparison, the average sales volume per capita of non-alcoholic beer in Australia — which doesn’t attract alcohol excises — has been consistently rising since 2020. Fewer young people are consuming alcohol, according to the *********** Institute of Health and ********. In 2019, young people aged 18–24 were most likely to drink alcohol monthly, but not as often as weekly. But in 2022–2023, the proportion who drank alcohol monthly dropped from 34 per cent to 29 per cent. Last October, the PM launched the “inner west ale trail”, showcasing 17 independent breweries and declaring they were putting the fun back into Sydney. S&P 500 Slips Below 5,900: Buying Opportunity or Start of a Deeper Correction? S&P 500 Slips Below 5,900: Buying Opportunity or Start of a Deeper Correction? Stocks fell sharply, with the leading the decline, finishing the day down almost 1.6% at 5,860. Meanwhile, the dropped nearly 2.75%, closing at 20,550. This decline was primarily driven by Nvidia (NASDAQ:), which fell 8.5% to end the day at 120. Anyone following this commentary for some time knows that Nvidia was positioned in a way that made a pullback likely following its earnings results, primarily due to the way the options market was structured around it. The market had been highly bullish, with significant call delta exposure, but after the results, those deltas burned off, and implied volatility dropped sharply, leading to yesterday’s selloff. Nvidia also broke key technical levels yesterday. The next major support level appears to be around 118, and if that breaks, it could set up a move down to 109. As for the S&P 500, a critical level at 5,900 was broken yesterday, nearly filling a previous gap. The index pulled back to around 5,860, though there may still be some room for further downside. More importantly, 5,900 had been serving as a major support level and a “put wall” from a gamma perspective. Now, it appears that the put wall has shifted down to around 5,800, suggesting that if the market wants to decline further, there is room for it to do so. Previously, the market had been range-bound between 5,900 and 6,100, but after yesterday’s close, it seems that range may now extend down to 5,800. The same is true of the NDX, which finds itself at support at 20,550 and what appears to be a double-top pattern. A break of support at 20,550 probably means we see a drop to around 20,000 to start. The ******* question is whether credit spreads will begin to widen significantly. While valuations could justify a lower market, they are not a good timing tool. Instead, credit spreads need to show material widening to confirm a sustained decline. We are seeing early signs of this, with the CDX high-yield credit spread index closing above a trendline yesterday. Whether this is a genuine breakout will depend on today’s follow-through. Another notable move yesterday was in the , which broke out of a falling wedge, signaling potential further strength. This move was reflected across multiple currency pairs, including , , and . Additionally, the rose by one basis point, which, given the S&P 500’s decline, suggests we are still in the same broader market cycle. The curve also steepened slightly by about three basis points, and for now, there’s no apparent reason to change the outlook that the yield curve could continue to steepen. Meta plans to release a stand-alone AI app to compete with ChatGPT, as Sam Altman responds to the threat Meta plans to release a stand-alone AI app to compete with ChatGPT, as Sam Altman responds to the threat Meta will release a new stand-alone Meta AI app in Q2 this year Sam Altman has responded by suggesting OpenAI could release its own social media app in retaliation Meta will release more AI-related products this year According to new rumors posted by CNBC, Meta has announced that it is going to release a stand-alone app version of Meta AI to take on ChatGPT this year, prompting OpenAI CEO Sam Alman to respond with, “Ok fine maybe we’ll do a social app”, on the X social platform. The prospect of OpenAI creating a social media app in retaliation may have been a joke from Altman – his follow-up post on X said “lol if facebook tries to come at us and we just uno reverse them it would be so funny” followed by a laughing emoji, but it garnered some serious responses from users on X. “Drop the GPT – just ‘chat’” said @not_a_vc, and “Have you thought about merging with X?” asked Bojan Tunguz. However, most users seemed to think the world didn’t need yet another social media app. “A social chatGPT app would probably start a new paradigm. No telling how the consequences would play out from that”, said RexMonte, “Social networks are now obsolete”, said Mark Lindsay, and “How many social media apps have been tried yet everyone keeps coming back to this dumpster fire?” asked another user. According to CNBC, “people familiar with the matter” say the new Meta AI app is expected in the second quarter of this year. The Meta AI chatbot launched in September 2023, and can currently be accessed from its own website, or from inside Meta apps like Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram, where you can chat with the AI as if you were talking to a friend. Separating the AI out into a stand-alone app would pitch it directly against dedicated AI chatbot apps like ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok. (Image credit: Shutterstock) In January this year, Zuckerberg responded to a post on Threads (another of Meta’s social platforms) with a ‘100’ emoji after a user suggested that Meta should have its own AI chatbot app, which could tie together MetaAI through all its different platforms, apps, and products like Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Meta has strong AI ambitions this year. Zuckerberg has described 2025 as being the “defining year” for Meta’s smart glasses plans and a leaked internal memo allegedly penned by Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth has teased some big things in XR and AI tech from its Reality Labs division, including six new AI hardware devices. Is Little Nightmares 3 Multiplayer? Co-op Explained Is Little Nightmares 3 Multiplayer? Co-op Explained Co-operative gameplay and teamwork are emphasized in Little Nightmares 3. You have two characters to ******* to safety after all. Considering the previous entry neglected any form of two-player integration, it’s natural to wonder if Little Nightmares 3 includes co-op or multiplayer, and we have the answer. One of the biggest differences between the first Little Nightmares and its successor is the characters. Little Nightmares 1 was a story around a small child called Six. Little Nightmares 2 went one step further and gave Six a co-op pal—Mono. In Little Nightmares 3, both are out, and in come Low and Alone for a new torturous tale. With Supermassive Games running the ship, things are changing for the threequel. That being said, let’s find out if co-op, multiplayer, or something in between debuts. Can You Play Little Nightmares 3 in Online Co-op? Real friend. Credit to Supermassive Games Little Nightmares 3 introduces online co-op for the first time and allows you to unravel the unknown with another human player. Adding a second main character in Little Nightmares 2 hinted at this possible new direction. Co-op seemed to be an inevitable inclusion if Little Nightmares 3 also had a second protagonist to control. This had turned out to be the case, and both Low and Alone can be controlled by two different players. You need an online connection, and someone else with a copy of the game, but the opportunity for online co-op is there. Does Little Nightmares 3 Have Local Co-op? Little Nightmares 3 does not feature local co-op in any way and it’s one of the more baffling omissions from the horror title. A 2023 interview with Gamesradar explained the studio’s decision to go against local co-op. Game director Wayne Garland said: “Couch [co-op] is something that we considered, but again, when you come back to the atmosphere and the immersion that we’re trying to elicit through Little Nightmares, I think it was important for us that we stuck to our online co-op only rather than traditional more party aspects.” There you have it. Supermassive Games wants co-op, but still wants you to feel like you’re on your own. It’s an immersion thing, although I still feel it’s not quite enough justification as I’d love to play it in local co-op. This might just be me though! Who knows, it might get added as a feature well after release. We’ll have to see. I don’t think I even need to ask if you’re disappointed about a lack of local co-op. With so many titles advocating the concept, it seems baffling to omit it from Little Nightmares 3 altogether. Are you hoping it’s added later on as part of an update? Let us know. Rise of the Golden Idol’s first DLC arrives with The Sins of New Wells, coming soon to Netflix Rise of the Golden Idol’s first DLC arrives with The Sins of New Wells, coming soon to Netflix Rise of the Golden Idol’s first DLC, The Sin of New Wells is coming March 4th New crimes await as we step into the shoes of detective Roy Samson, a new transfer to the 9th district But beware, because gruesome murders are not the worst thing he’s set to encounter The Golden Idol series of point-and-click adventures has had an interesting trajectory. Going from historical intrigue in the original Case of the Golden Idol to (relatively) modern-day, hard-boiled detective crime thriller with Rise of the Golden Idol. And now those of you who’ve been hankering for more can enjoy Rise of the Golden Idol’s first DLC, arriving March 4th! Rise of the Golden Idol is available on PC, but also on mobile exclusively via the Netflix Games catalogue. The Sins of New Wells sees detective Roy Samson transferred to the corrupt and crime-ridden 9th District. Alongside his new partner Cliff Savea, it’s up to Samson to solve a string of brutal murders that may have more than a bit of Lemurian magic about them. The Golden Idol series uses its own distinctive puzzle-solving mechanics, where you need to link words and concepts together in different modes. By examining a scene you gain more evidence and can piece them together to form a theoretical series of events or reach other conclusions. Into my mind palace The Golden Idol series is one of those rare examples in the point-and-click genre that seems manifestly intent on pushing forward with new mechanics. I very much find their means of solving mysteries and gathering evidence to be quite interesting, so I’m excited to see what new crimes you’ll get to solve in this upcoming DLC. At the same time the surprisingly dense lore of the Golden Idol series, I fear, may leave some players out in the cold at some point or another. But either way, it’s a good feather for Netflix Games’ cap to have this fan-favourite point-and-click adventure on hand. Want to see what other top releases this service has? The incident occurred at about 19:00 GMT on Wednesday at a flat in Cobhorn Drive, south Bristol. Officers confirmed the dog had now been put down. A man and a woman, both in their 20s, were arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death. They were also arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited breed of dog. Initial reports suggested it may be an XL bully, but police said it was too early to confirm the breed. The woman’s family was informed following the attack and they are being supported by a specially trained officer. On Thursday, a neighbour who lives close to the scene said the woman had only lived in the property a few weeks. Microsoft is finally putting Skype out of its misery, urging people to use Teams instead Microsoft is finally putting Skype out of its misery, urging people to use Teams instead Microsoft is shutting down Skype in May 2025 The company urges users to move over to Microsoft Teams instead Skype has been in steep decline since 2020 Microsoft has confirmed that Skype, the iconic video conferencing program, will shut down in May 2025. That means you’ve only got three months left to swap over – if you haven’t already jumped ship already. As reported by XDA Developers, a hidden message inside the HMTL code for the Skype for Windows program reads: “Starting in May, Skype will no longer be available. Continue your calls and chats in Teams.” The statement is definitive, capping off the program’s two-decade-long run by saying: “Move to Teams today” and “{userCount} of your friends have already moved to Teams”. Since its launch in 2003, Skype has been the de facto way of messaging, video conferencing, and audio calls across computers, later adopting mobile platforms, too. It was purchased by Microsoft in 2011, replacing some of the company’s services for Skype, such as Windows Live Messenger and others. The program was later attempted to be integrated directly into Windows in 2015, a plan that was never fully realized. However, Skype ran the risk of being cannibalized alongside Microsoft Teams, the company’s newest communications venture, which debuted in 2017. Since its release, Teams has been heavily promoted by the company as the new way to communicate casually and professionally, with a lighter user interface and seamless integration between devices. As a consequence, Skype for Business was officially retired in 2021 after Microsoft announced it would be sunsetting the service in 2019. The final nail in the coffin for Skype was its steep decline that happened during 2020. Despite a rebrand and a facelift from Microsoft, the Zoom alternative saw its numbers slipping significantly from the most popular conferencing program a decade prior, to only around 36 million monthly users, a decrease of 75% percent. While these numbers sound impressive, that’s before realizing that Microsoft Teams was averaging anywhere from 250 to 300 million users a month from 2020 onwards and has remained steady since (via CNBC). The end of Skype has finally arrived The news of Skype’s closure should not be surprising for many, as the bulk of its users had already long since transitioned to a newer (and likely faster) alternative that could do more. Skype was primarily billed around one-on-one communication, which is now something we’ve been able to do through Apple’s FaceTime, WhatsApp, Discord, Facebook Messenger, and dozens of other programs for desktops and smartphones for a while now. Skype simply has not been needed for a long time, especially once the cracks in its functionality began to show. Microsoft purchased Skype for $8.5 billion in cash with a 300% markup from its original valuation in 2007, when eBay purchased the program for $2.6 billion back in 2007. The service was thought of as the next big thing, which was later integrated into the company’s ill-fated Windows phones and was even (briefly) a mandatory part of Windows 10. However, 2011 was a lifetime ago in the age of social media, where so much has arrived to replace it. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. For all its faults, Microsoft Teams is a frontrunner for professional business use alongside the likes of Zoom and Google Meet. If you’re having a video meeting in 2025, it’s almost a certainty that you’ll be using one of these three instead of booting up Skype, which feels primitive by comparison. Retirement for the program was a long time coming, and frankly, it’s surprising that it even lasted this long in the first place. How the series conquered the world How the series conquered the world Andrew Rogers and Tom Richardson BBC Newsbeat Capcom It’s a big one – almost a million people have played Monster Hunter Wilds on PC within hours of its launch The latest release in one of Japan’s most popular video game series has had one of the most successful debuts of all time. Almost one million people were logged on to the PC version of Monster Hunter Wilds at the same time within hours of its launch, according to figures from online store Steam. There have been complaints from the first wave of players on Steam about the game’s performance on computers, but its critical response has been positive. BBC Newsbeat spoke to director Yuya Tokuda and producer Ryozo Tsujimoto prior to the release of Wilds about turning the game into a global hit. Monster Hunter first launched on the PlayStation 2 in 2004. As the title suggests, players spend the game navigating an area known as The Forbidden Lands capturing and battling a cast of increasingly fearsome beasts. Long-time fans of the series are drawn in by its challenging, complex systems and option to play co-operatively, teaming up with friends to take down massive foes. Breakout 2018 hit Monster Hunter World has has sold 21.3 million copies, according to publisher Capcom, rising to 28.1 million when sales of an upgraded 2019 edition are included. Producer Mr Tsujimoto told BBC Newsbeat the game was a culmination of all the work and lessons learned from previous titles on the series. “Anything that we hadn’t been doing we really tried to do with Monster Hunter World to get everything ready so that the game was ready to break through,” he said. Capcom Monster Hunter Wilds has been developed for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Games industry layoffs and studio closures in the West and Europe have led to fears of “brain drain” – a loss of knowledge as people leave companies or even look for work in different fields. Japan, where employment protections for workers are much stronger, has not been as badly affected and developers often stay with the same company for a long time. Monster Hunter director Mr Tokuda says he’s worked on the series for 20 years and it’s fed into his work on Wilds. “It’s the groundwork that you create with your previous titles that you hope can inform the success of later ones,” he says. “We have the ability to take data from past titles like Monster Hunter World and analyse that data in order to understand what players were enjoying and what we could improve.” Other Japanese studios are known for taking this iterative approach and building on what has come before. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the makers of the popular Yakuza series and its Like a Dragon spin-offs, have put out a new game more or less every year since 2020. The company’s boss Masayoshi Yokoyama has spoken openly about how the team is happy to revisit previous locations and reuse elements from earlier games rather doing a “fresh reboot” each time. This can help to lower development costs and reduce the time it takes to make new titles. ‘We’re working in our own lanes’ The Japanese games industry was a dominant force from the 1980s until the early 2000s, but a power shift saw Western developers begin to lead the way. More recently, the country has been behind some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful titles released. At last year’s Game Awards – described by some as the industry’s answer to The Oscars – Japanese-made games occupied four of the six Game of the Year nominations. Mr Tsujimoto says he can’t pinpoint a specific reason for this, but says the Monster Hunter team has learned there are certain things needed to make a “triple-A success in today’s market”. That includes translating games into various languages so they can be released simultaneously in different countries, and being mindful of growing your audience. “We’re always careful to design the experience so new players can get into the game,” he adds. Japan does face some of the same challenges as other developers worldwide. Player habits are changing, with PC gaming increasing in popularity, and as technology becomes more advanced making games becomes more expensive. Mr Tsujimoto says generational leaps “push the industry forward”, bringing “new opportunities and new complexities”. “I don’t think it’s necessarily the most difficult it’s ever been but there are always new challenges whenever technology leaps forward.” The games industry is also more competitive than ever – more video games are being released, and players are tending to stick with the same ones for longer periods. It leaves publishers of new releases fighting over a much smaller share of players’ free time and 2025 has already been packed with big new releases. Mr Tsujimoto insists they haven’t paid too much attention to that while working on Monster Hunter Wilds. “It looks like a big year for everyone but we’re really all just working in our own lanes,” he says. “We happened to have this launch window that’s on the verge of some other big releases but we don’t have access to that information before the general public.” For an established series that suddenly explodes in popularity, Mr Tokuda says a big challenge is pleasing old and new fans. “You always have in your mind that there’s people waiting for your next creation and they’re the players you want to satisfy,” he says. “But you also have your own creative idea and want to follow that through.” Listen to Newsbeat live at 12:45 and 17:45 weekdays – or listen back here. Helldivers 2’s Galactic War Has Stalled Because a Bug Was Secretly Rigging It for Super Earth the Whole Time Helldivers 2’s Galactic War Has Stalled Because a Bug Was Secretly Rigging It for Super Earth the Whole Time In Helldivers 2, players have long been engaged in the fight for democracy and freedom, leading the charge in a galactic war to liberate planets from oppressive alien factions. While there are various missions, the central ones are Major Orders, which help advance the galactic war. Players have been hard at work to spread democracy. | Image credit: Arrowhead Game Studios These key missions contribute to Super Earth’s cause of achieving full liberation and spreading democracy across the galaxy. However, a recent update from Arrowhead has left players in disarray as the war is put on hold due to a bug that has been rigging the entire conflict in Super Earth’s favor. Helldivers 2‘s galactic war is put on hold indefinitely A bug has caused the liberation rate to skyrocket. | Image Credit: Arrowhead Game Studios For those unfamiliar, the Galactic War in Helldivers 2 is designed to be an ongoing struggle, where various factions fight for control of different planets and territories. Players contribute to this war through Major Orders, which push the game’s narrative forward and determine the fate of the galaxy. While the progress in this galactic war has been steady, a surprising twist has recently emerged. Arrowhead revealed that a backend update had unintentionally triggered an error that dramatically affected planet liberation rates. The developers acknowledged the issue, explaining that this bug had caused the liberation rates to skyrocket, causing unintended consequences for the integrity of the war itself. While the acceleration of liberation progress might have been fun, it can impact the long-term experience of the game. As a result, Arrowhead has decided to temporarily pause the Galactic War until the problem is resolved. While players can still enjoy Helldivers 2 in the meantime, they will no longer be able to contribute to advancing the war or liberating planets. Today we updated our backend and we have encountered an error that is affecting planet liberation rates, causing them to skyrocket. While we know this is fun, we also know that it is breaking the Galactic War mechanic itself. In short, this is harming the game experience and… — HELLDIVERS 2 (@helldivers2) February 27, 2025 In short the war has reached a stalemate — Truth Enforcer Aurora (@AuroraAfterglow) February 28, 2025 Appreciate the transparency. Been looking forward to the gas mine build for months! — Swany (@SwanyPlaysGames) February 27, 2025 The lore explanation will be gold — Davedalorian (@DaveTrayus) February 27, 2025 After hearing the news, players have largely praised the developers for their transparency in acknowledging the bug. However, there is some frustration in the community as players can no longer spread democracy until the issue is resolved. This pause gives us a moment of reflection The Galactic War has been put on hold. | Image Credit: Arrowhead Game Studios This temporary pause in the Galactic War serves as a reminder of just how intricate and finely tuned game mechanics can be. Every victory and failure contributes to the broader war effort, contributing to the game’s evolving narrative. While the bug (not the terminids) may have rigged the war in Super Earth’s favor, it also highlighted the importance of ensuring that every mechanic works as intended to maintain the balance and excitement that players expect from the game. The most important thing coming from this bug reveal is the transparency shown by the developers. Not only did Arrowhead acknowledge its mistake, but also made it clear that the ETA for the fix is uncertain, something players appreciate, as it prevents the usual “radio silence” treatment. Additionally, the developers have reassured the community that all Major Order victories, until now, remain intact, providing players with some peace of mind. For now, fans of Helldivers 2 will have to sit tight as the developer works on a fix. The wait may be frustrating, but it’s clear that the developers are committed to delivering the best possible experience. In the end, players can enjoy the other elements of the game, knowing that the Galactic War will one day resume, and when it does, it will be more glorious than ever. New Nvidia drivers should fix a major RTX 50 series GPU issue New Nvidia drivers should fix a major RTX 50 series GPU issue Nvidia has launched the new Game-ready driver 572.60 on its app, which is said to rectify the ****** screen issues that some users have had since upgrading to the latest hardware. The new Game-ready driver also sees DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation for Naraka: Bladepoint and Monster Hunter Wilds, as well as G-Sync support for 29 new gaming monitors from Acer, AOC, Asus, Dell, LG, and Phillips models. According to the patch notes, several gaming and general bugs have been fixed with the latest Game-ready driver, including “Various ****** screen issues” denominated as [5088957], [5100062], and [5089089], as well as “Audio issues when GPU is connected with DisplayPort 1.4 w/ DSC at very high refresh rates”. If you’ve experienced ****** screens and audio problems, try the new driver out and see if these specific error codes are finally fixed for you. Ongoing issues that Nvidia is aware of, but doesn’t appear to have fixed yet, include a problem where the “PC may boot to ****** screen on certain monitors when connected via DisplayPort”. It seems that DisplayPort could be an issue with the RTX 50 series, so you may be better off using HDMI 2.1 in the meantime to see if that makes any difference. We’ve previously argued against DisplayPort cables in the past. Despite the promised fixes, some users of the Nvidia Forum have voiced their concerns that things are a long way from perfect on their new Blackwell hardware. One user simply writes: “Please fix your drivers so we can use DisplayPort”. Another states how they’re still having ****** screen issues with DisplayPort enabled, needing to use HDMI instead, and how they’re “really contemplating switching to AMD”. There are dozens more dissenting voices in response to the controversial thread. The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 launched on January 30, 2025, with the RTX 5070 Ti joining the roster on February 20, 2025. While it’s early days for Blackwell hardware, the latest GPU generation has not been without its problems. As well as ****** screens, DisplayPort issues, and audio problems, some users have claimed their power connectors are melting. However, the latter issue does not seem anywhere near as widespread as the milder problems some users are suffering from. A silver lining amidst a rocky launch While it’s argued that early adopters are always the ones to experience teething problems, the various issues that the RTX 50 series cards have had are not the best look. No one wants to invest in one of the newest and best graphics cards on the market only to suffer from ****** screens and audio issues and be forced to use HDMI instead of DisplayPort. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. Some users may still be having problems, but we’re hopeful that this new Game-ready driver could mitigate the worst of things for you. We should note that none of the RTX 50-series GPUs that we’ve been using and testing have had these problems, so hopefully the issues are rare – and now also fixed with these new Nvidia drivers. However, it’s part of a wider problem: the RTX 50 series cards have been near-impossible to find. The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 sold out in mere minutes (arguably seconds) with an incredibly limited stock of not only the Founders Edition models from Nvidia but also the partner cards from US and *** retailers. Unfortunately, things were even worse with the lack of stock and availability of the RTX 5070 Ti when it debuted earlier this month. It was gone almost instantly, dashing the hopes of those who wanted DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation for $749. In many ways, it mirrors the paper launch of the RTX 30 series from 2020, which itself was largely blamed on the semiconductor shortage (a symptom of the COVID-19 pandemic) and the cryptocurrency mining operations at a time where GPUs were being bought up in bulk to mine Etherium (and other blockchain-based coins). We’re hopeful that the RTX 50 series does eventually become more available, but this likely will not happen until towards the end of 2025. In the meantime, you can read where to check for RTX 5090 stock, RTX 5080 stock, and RTX 5070 Ti stock as it comes in. At least when availability is increased, hopefully, the problems plaguing the cards will be long gone, too.
