Trump has put unjustified tariffs on Canada – Mark Carney
Former Bank of England Governor Mark Carney has won the race to succeed Justin Trudeau as Canada’s prime minister and Liberal Party leader.
Carney, 59, who easily beat three rivals, will lead the Liberals into the next general election, which is expected to be called in the coming weeks.
In his victory speech, Carney lashed out at US President Donald Trump, who has ignited a trade war with Canada and made comments about making the country the 51st US state.
Carney, who has never served in elected office, takes power at a time of deep instability for Canada. The Liberals have been trailing Conservatives in opinion polls, though they have narrowed the gap since the trade war with Trump began.
The leadership race began in January after Trudeau resigned following nearly a decade in office. He had faced internal pressure to quit over deep unpopularity with voters.
Carney is expected to be sworn in as prime minister in the coming days, and will lead a ********* government in Parliament.
He could either call a snap general election himself or the opposition parties could force one with a no-confidence vote later this month.
After being declared winner on Sunday night, Carney said: “Canadians know that new threats demand new ideas and a new plan.
“They know that new challenges demand new leadership. Canadians want positive leadership that will end division and help us build together.”
On Trump, he said the US president had placed “unjustified tariffs” on Canada.
“He’s attacking ********* workers, families, and businesses,” said Carney. “We can’t let him succeed.”
He said his government would keep tariffs on US imports “until the Americans show us respect”.
Carney also pledged to “secure our borders”, which has been a key demand of Trump in their tariff stand-off.
The former central banker has run on a broadly centrist agenda, a shift away from Trudeau, who had moved the Liberals to the left.
Among his key promises, as Canada faces a tariff war with the US, its largest trading partner, is to push forward on major energy projects like pipelines, which have faced a political roadblocks in recent years.
He has promised major investments in housing and clean energy projects, and to liberalise trade within Canada, where barriers remain between provinces, and to diversify trade away form the US.
During the leadership race, Carney promised to cap the size of the federal government, which expanded 40% under Trudeau and to undertake a programme review.
He said in late February he would run a “small” deficit for three years “that aligns with our fiscal capacity”, before balancing the operational budget.
Carney has said the country needs significant investments to counter Trump’s tariff threats, including in defence, energy and port and rail infrastructure.

Banned Lyon boss watches side win, close in on third
Banned Lyon boss watches side win, close in on third
Coach Paulo Fonseca has watched from the stands and saw his substitutions pay off as Lyon won 2-0 at Nice to maintain their push for a Champions League spot.
Fonseca began his nine-month touchline ban in France’s Ligue 1 on Sunday after aggressively confronting referee Benoit Millot last weekend. He saw his team struggle in the first half as Nice striker Gaetan Laborde hit the post in the driving rain.
Lyon punished their hosts when midfielder Rayan Cherki scored one minute after coming on, latching onto a pass from Brazilian midfielder Thiago Almada and finished confidently in the 78th minute.
Cherki, 21, has been linked with a move to a big club since breaking onto the scene as a precocious teenager five years ago, and this was his career-high sixth league goal.
The lively Almada then found Ernest Nuamah with a first-time pass and the Ghana forward — who came on midway through the second half — expertly curled the ball into the top left corner in the 83rd.
Sixth-placed Lyon are two points behind Lille in fifth and Monaco in fourth. Third-placed Nice are only four points ahead of Lyon with the top four earning a Champions League spot.
Liam Rosenior’s first season in charge of Strasbourg is going along nicely as the Alsace-based club won 1-0 at Nantes to strengthen their grip on seventh.
The 40-year-old Englishman, whose father enjoyed a career as a bustling striker in the 1980s, played in the Premier League for Fulham, Reading and Hull City as a defender.
Rosenior’s coaching career started three years ago with a brief stint at Derby County and he then took charge of Hull. He was among the nominees last season for manager of the year in the second-tier Championship.
Strasbourg’s goal came in the 79th minute when Felix Lemarechal turned in a cross from tricky right winger Dilane Bakwa.
In other results, strugglers Le Havre and Saint-Etienne drew 1-1 to stay deep in relegation trouble.
Mid-table Brest won 2-0 at home to Angers.
Reims lost 2-0 at home to Auxerre to stay 15th and one place above Le Havre in the relegation playoff spot. Saint-Etienne are 17th and Montpellier last in the 18-team league.
Runaway leaders PSG won 4-1 at Rennes and are 16 points clear of Marseille, who conceded an added-time goal in a 1-0 home loss to Lens, also on Saturday.

Credit card perks we are all paying for
Credit card perks we are all paying for

Chase
Chase’s new Sapphire Lounge at New York’s La Guardia Airport offers cardholders a luxurious space
I’m standing in what feels like a suite in a posh hotel – all soft lighting, marble counter tops, plush seating and parquet-style flooring.
An ornate platter of food catches the corner of my eye.
“That is a seafood tower as a welcome food amenity, as well as caviar, and you can also see the champagne there for guests to enjoy,” says Dana Pouwels, head of airport lounge benefits at US bank Chase.
She is showing me around Chase’s new Sapphire Lounge at New York’s La Guardia Airport.
This is what waiting to catch a flight can look like these days – if you can afford to pay $550 (£433) a year to have the correct credit card required to gain entry.
Then once inside Chase’s new La Guardia lounge you can then choose to pay up to $3,000 to access a private suite for a few hours.
It is all part of what has been described as a global arms race among the credit card companies that you are probably entirely unaware of – they are competing to outdo each other with *******, better, bolder airport lounges.
And while most of us don’t have access to these lounges, experts say we are almost certainly helping pay for them. And they don’t come cheap.
“Yes, it’s an arms race, and they’re getting extraordinary,” says Clint Thompson, the news editor at the flight and travel website The Points Guy. “From what we do know, we’re talking up to tens of millions of dollars per lounge.
“Like the new [American Express-owned] Centurion lounge in Atlanta, I believe they spent about $100m to make that happen.”
Chase
Anyone for a caviar platter before the flight?
Airport lounges aren’t a new concept, and credit card issuers have long teamed up with airlines to offer branded credit cards with lounge access.
But now the card issuers are building lounges themselves, as a way of directly appealing to card holders – and potential new customers too.
JP Morgan Chase, American Express, Capital One, they’re all now in the lounge – and lifestyle – business.
For American Express this includes opening a high-end lounge in midtown Manhattan.
Its Centurion New York venue is located on the 55th floor of a skyscraper, with floor to ceiling windows offering sweeping views of New York, and fine dining and private bars.
It’s designed for Centurion card holders – a card which will cost you $10,000 as a signing on fee, plus $5,000 a year. And it is invite-only to get one.
“We’re more than a credit card company or a charge card company, it’s more a lifestyle brand, getting you special access to concerts, getting you into restaurants,” says Audrey Hendley, the head of global travel at American Express.
The card issuers have even moved into a 21st Century staple, the coffee shop.
Capital One have Capital One Cafés – now you have a barista in a bank.
Their branch in the Georgetown neighbourhood of Washington DC has all the classic signs of the hip coffee shop – exposed vents, bare brick walls, barista coffee machine.
The only immediate giveaway you might be in the bank is the neon Capital One sign on the wall and their branded touch screens. Look a bit closer, and you might spot one of their casually dressed people who looks like a customer, but is actually what Capital One calls their ambassadors, here to welcome you in and help you with all your banking needs.
Anyone can use the café, but hold a Capital One card and you get money off your brew.
“We’re creating a showroom for our products,” says Shaun Rowley the director of Capital One Cafes.
“For customers to come in and see Capital One in action, to touch it, to smell it and even taste it with our cafes. And watching them walk out, as you know, raving fans and advocates for us is kind of the return that we’re looking for.”

None of this sounds like the sort of language you hear normally hear from financial institutions.
Dan Bennett is the head of behavioural science the ad giant Ogilvy. He says this is all about brands tapping into how people think about themselves, and other people.
“Yeah, it is a piece of plastic with the chip in it that holds your money, but it is something that actually gives you a position in society,” he says. “It is something that says something about who you are. It is something that can make you feel elevated.
“The credit card firms are not just building rooms at airports, they’re building a sense of self. It’s kind of amazing that financial services companies have managed to kind of look at some deep-core human drivers, and then build experiences around that.
“And that’s why they’re so successful with them, because they’ve managed to find the psychological levers to pull, rather than just looking at the world through a rational lens.”
Capital One
Shaun Rowley says that the aim of the new cafés is to turn customers into “raving fans and advocates”
But even if you’re never going to get access to these places, you are ultimately still paying for them, according to Lulu Wang. He’s assistant professor of finance at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University near Chicago, and has studied how card payment systems work.
He points out that credit cards are more expensive for merchants, be they retailers, or bars and restaurants to accept than debit cards as they incur a higher processing fee.
Prof Wang says merchants are likely to put up prices to cover the additional cost of people using credit cards.
“We typically think that corporations, you know, they’re facing higher costs, they’re going to pass on a pretty substantial share of those costs onto consumers,” he explains.
“If we impose all these costs on the merchant, it ends up being a cost that is ultimately borne by all of us as consumers. Well-off people get to use the high merchant fee, high reward cards, and then it’s the rest of society that has to bear that cost.”
Whoever is picking up the cost, the direction of travel is clear. More lounges and lifestyle experiences are coming as card issuers compete against each other.
The arms race to get your credit card loyalty isn’t slowing down.

Defense lawyers in Trump assassination attempt case tour Trump golf course, examine rifle from FBI evidence
Defense lawyers in Trump assassination attempt case tour Trump golf course, examine rifle from FBI evidence
While President Trump spoke with reporters about federal job cuts and signed executive orders in the Oval Office last Tuesday, a notable — and unannounced — visit was underway at Mr. Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. It wasn’t publicized. But it could impact one of the highest-profile criminal trials in America this year.
According to court filings reviewed by CBS News, defense attorneys for Ryan Routh were given access to tour the Trump golf course on Feb. 25 to prepare Routh’s defense in the alleged assassination attempt against Mr. Trump during a Sept. 15 golf outing. A court filing submitted by Justice Department prosecutors this week said, “We took the lead in setting up arrangements for this visit even though the prosecution team obviously does not control the course, which is private property.”
In a March 3 court filing, prosecutors added, “As we told defense counsel, their request to inspect the firearm in this manner was highly unusual in the experience of the FBI, but nonetheless we made it happen.”
Prosecutors have also helped provide transport of the rifle allegedly wielded by Routh near Trump’s September golf outing. According to the Justice Department’s submissions to a federal judge in Miami, “To accommodate a defense request, the prosecution team ensured that the firearm, scope, magazine, ammunition, and antiballistic plates were transported from the FBI’s lab in Quantico, Virginia, to the FBI Field Office in Miramar, Florida, so the defense could inspect it, with purported consultants in tow, in South Florida after the golf course visit.”
Prosecutors say Routh methodically plotted to kill Trump for weeks, before aiming a rifle through the shrubbery as Trump played golf on Sept. 15 at the Trump West Palm Beach country club. Before Trump came into view, Routh was allegedly spotted by a Secret Service agent. Federal authorities accuse Routh of aiming his rifle at the agent, who opened fire, causing Routh to drop his weapon and flee without firing a shot. Prosecutors say he left behind a note describing his intentions.
A White House spokeswoman declined comment when asked about the defense attorney visit to the president’s Florida golf property. FBI, Justice Department officials and Routh’s federal public defense attorneys also did not comment.
The federal criminal case against Routh, which gathered widespread attention when it was filed in September, has attracted little attention in the months since. His alleged attempt on Mr. Trump’s life was partly overshadowed by the dramatic first assassination attempt last July in Butler, Pennsylvania. Routh’s trial is scheduled for September 2025.
Routh’s son charged in separate felony case
A CBS News review found Routh’s legal case has also given rise to another federal investigation. According to charging documents filed in North Carolina, federal investigators searched the apartment of Routh’s son six days after the alleged assassination attempt in September. The court filings said an electronic device discovered in Oran Routh’s apartment had “hundreds of child ************ images.”
Prosecutors said the initial search of Oran Routh’s home was unrelated to the child ************ evidence, but the investigation ultimately revealed multiple devices with suspected child exploitative images.
On Jan. 8, Oren Routh signed a plea agreement in which he acknowledged “that the material which contained an image of child ************ charged in the Second Superseding Indictment herein involved a prepubescent minor and minor who had not attained 12 years of age.”
He is scheduled to be sentenced May 14 at the federal courthouse in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Both Oran Routh and his father are being held in pretrial detention pending the resolution of their cases.
Though the two criminal cases are separate, court filings reviewed by CBS News show correspondence between Ryan Routh and his son are part of the evidence that has been collected and noted in Ryan Routh’s assassination attempt case in Florida.
If convicted, Ryan Routh faces a maximum penalty of life in prison. According to court records, Routh was convicted of felonies in North Carolina in December 2002 and March 2010.
Ryan Routh’s trial is scheduled for Sept. 8, nearly a year to the day after the alleged assassination attempt. The presiding judge is Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed to the bench by Mr. Trump in 2020. Last year, Cannon dismissed Trump’s classified documents federal criminal case.

New Smyrna Beach, Fla. – New video shows the moment when a shootout erupted at a RaceTrac gas station in New Smyrna Beach on Saturday. According to the police department, the incident involved two rival motorcycle gangs.
The video appears to be recorded from inside a vehicle; at some point, the witness runs into the store for safety while gunfire ignited outside. The witness – who wanted to remain anonymous – said they raced into the restroom for protection.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. Saturday at a RaceTrac at the corner of Ocean Boulevard and State Road 44, just a few miles from the beach. Police blocked off the area for hours, and RaceTrac workers said their store was also shut down while investigators searched the area.
Multiple people were hurt in the incident, but all are expected to be okay, NSBPD said in a statement. NSBPD did not share the number of people injured.
The shooting occurs as Volusia County closes Bike Week. The 10-day event attracts nearly 500,000 people to the area and fuels the local economy.

Deputy PM Marles slams Dutton for ‘politicising’ Ukraine after Albanese’s troops pledge
Deputy PM Marles slams Dutton for ‘politicising’ Ukraine after Albanese’s troops pledge
Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has slammed Peter Dutton for “politicising” plans to potentially send *********** peacekeepers to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.
The Opposition leader accused Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of “shooting from the hip” following the pledge to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer late last week.
He urged the PM to “make informed judgments on what’s in the country’s best interest” and described the prospect of Aussie boots on the ground as “unbelievable”.
Asked about the swipe, Mr Marles said support for Ukraine enjoyed bipartisan support and that any request for peacekeepers would be given “due consideration”.
“What has surprised me is that Peter Dutton has sought to politicise this in a way which really beggars belief,” Mr Marles told the ABC.
“All we’re saying we’ll do is give due consideration to the kind of requests … for that support, which we’ve thought has enjoyed bipartisan support.
Camera IconPeter Dutton accused the PM of ‘shooting from the hip’. NewsWire / John Gass Credit: News Corp AustraliaCamera IconDefence Minister Richard Marles slammed Mr Dutton’s criticism on Monday. NCA NewsWire / Martin Ollman Credit: News Corp Australia
“And yet Peter Dutton, on the eve of an election, is out there trying to politicise this, which is genuinely concerning.
“Anybody who thinks that national interest can be compromised in the face of seeking votes, or what seems to be popular, frankly, is not fit to govern.
“It is really important that we stay the course here and that means that we provide our support to Ukraine.”
Support for Ukraine has gained renewed focus following the disastrous meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukraine leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
Mr Trump had accused Mr Zelensky of “gambling with world war three” and not being interested in peace talks with Russia after its 2022 full-scale invasion.

Mr Starmer has since rallied support both in Europe and abroad for a “coalition of the willing” to support Ukraine in the event of a peace deal with Russia.
Mr Albanese said Australia would participate in a meeting of the Chiefs of Defence in Paris on Tuesday, but that it was too early to say what Australia’s contribution would be.
“Both of our nations are very clear about our support for Ukraine and it of course is too early — you can’t have peacekeeping forces without having peace,” he said.
“But I certainly have said, very clearly, publicly, repeatedly, that we would give consideration to participating in any peacekeeping mission in the Ukraine.”
Some of those sentiments were echoed by Mr Dutton in his criticism of the PM’s pledge, stating that “there’s no peace yet” and so “no peace to keep”.
Camera IconUkraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv earlier this year. NewsWire Credit: NewsWire
“It’s unbelievable the PM’s talking about moving troops from Australia to … Ukraine when Italy, Germany, France has made no decision yet to base troops there,” he said.
Mr Dutton described Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on its second anniversary last year as “********, immoral, and abominable” and a “cruel reality of history hit home”.
“Within two months of Russia’s invasion, the former Coalition Government delivered a comprehensive $285 million package of support for Ukraine,” he said.
“The Coalition has given bipartisan support to every announcement made subsequent to Australia’s change in government.”

US casino giant Bally’s Corporation offer $250m lifeline to rescue Star Entertainment
US casino giant Bally’s Corporation offer $250m lifeline to rescue Star Entertainment
US casino group Bally’s Corporation is offering embattled Star Entertainment a $250 million lifeline that could rescue the gaming group from financial ruin.
The last-minute bid comes just days after debt-laden Star sealed a deal to sell a half share of its newly opened Brisbane casino at Queen’s Wharf to Hong Kong joint venture development partners Chow **** Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium for $53 million.
But media reports on Monday said Bally’s had proposed injecting hundreds of millions of dollars into Star to preserve its “businesses, assets and platforms”, according to a letter sent to chair Anne Ward — potentially up-ending the ***** of the casino.
Chow **** Fook and Far East have already paid $35m.
Star also revealed on Friday that it had entered into an agreement with King Street Capital Management for a $250m short-term debt facility, and was in talks with another party to provide up to $940m of debt.
The *********** is reporting that Bally’s is offering “an alternative pathway”, with the group to provide at least $250m through an issue of convertible notes subordinated to Star’s principal lenders. The notes would be convertible into a minimum of 50.1 per cent of Star’s fully diluted ordinary shares, giving Bally’s control.
“To be clear, we remain very open to discussing a larger transaction depending on our discussions with respect to Star’s liquidity and capital needs,” Bally’s chair Soo Kim wrote in the letter.
“We would also be happy to explore alternative structures that would similarly preserve value for all key constituents, including regulators, creditors, equity holders and employees.
“Our proposal is fully funded and not subject to any financing contingencies.”
Bally’s operates 22 casinos, hotels and resorts across the US and is preparing to open one in Newcastle in the ***, according to its website.
It was also reported that Mr Kim had offered to partner with Star “in deploying our significant operating experience in turning around casino assets and growing highly successful casino businesses.”
“We are prepared to invest significant time and resources to work with the company to return Star to profitability and sustainability. We have retained experienced financial and legal advisers and are prepared to engage immediately,” The *********** reported Mr Kim writing in the letter.
“While we understand the rationale for Star’s recently announced transactions, we believe that our proposal offers Star and its stakeholders far greater value and operational flexibility, as well as the upside from retaining Star’s current projects and other assets.
“We have already completed substantial due diligence based on publicly available information and leveraging our understanding of the *********** gaming market and extensive experience in the international gaming sector.
“As a result, we are well positioned to work with Star in a focused manner to deliver a binding proposal within a short ******* of time.”
Star’s troubles started in October 2021, when it was reported the casino operator had enabled suspected money laundering, organised crime and fraud at its operations for years.
Since then, inquiries by local gaming regulators have found it unsuitable to operate its Sydney and Queensland casinos, placing them under government supervision.
Star now holds $400m in debt and at December 31 had only $79m cash at hand.
The offers from both its Hong Kong partners and Bally’s come just days before Star is expected to run out of money and fall into administration.
Star’s shares have been suspended from trade on the *********** Securities Exchange since last Monday after it failed to lodge its half-year results.
The company said it could not sign off on the accounts without a bailout.
Putting its share on hold last week, Star repeated a warning made early in February that without a rescue deal to pull in cash it may not be able to continue as a viable business.
Its shares later returned to trade and fell more than 17 per cent to 11¢, valuing the company at just $307 million.

Anxiety disorders affect almost half (40.1%) of U.S. adults—around 40 million people—each year, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. If you are one of the 40 million, you know it’s not an easy way to live.
“Anxiety is a combination of two major processes,” explains Dr. Michael Adelman, MD, a child and adolescent psychiatrist with Mindpath Health.
He says you’ll experience excessive worry that makes it hard to do what you need to do to function daily. You may also experience physical symptoms, like a racing heart, in response to stressful daily events or tasks. We likely don’t have to tell you, though.
Still, despite how common anxiety and overthinking is in the U.S., we can’t pinpoint a precise reason why it happens to some people and not others. However, it can begin in childhood. Your upbringing—the caregiving style you received or traits you witnessed in parents or grandparents—can have long-lasting effects. Certainly, there are overt traits and issues—physical abuse, substance use disorders and neglect. However, other issues—while perhaps more subtle—can also contribute to anxiety in adulthood. You don’t have to “it-could-be-worse” yourself out of acknowledging what happened and getting help.
Mental health experts aren’t surprised when anxious adults tell them their parents or grandparents did these seven things when they were growing up.

7 Things in Childhood That Can Make You an Anxious Adult1. Your parents/grandparents displayed anxious behavior
Anxiety isn’t a virus, but it can be contagious.
“Parents who experience anxiety and do not work to explore and manage their thoughts and feelings around their anxiety enhance the likelihood that their children will adopt similar anxious ways through modeling,” says Dr. Brett Biller, Psy.D., a licensed child and parenting psychologist with Hackensack University Medical Center.
He explains that anxious behavior becomes normalized because children learn to manage emotions from their adult caregivers.

2. Excessively critical parenting
Kids who feel they can’t do a thing right likely find their self-esteem in the basement. Low self-esteem can open the door and welcome in long-term anxiety that continues into adulthood.
“The child develops a pattern of being critical of themself, an inability to take in compliments when they are expressed and uncertainties that are the foundation of anxiety,” Dr. Biller warns.
3. Overly restrictive or authoritarian parenting
Super-strict parenting—never letting a kid have a drop-off playdate or climb a tree—makes it impossible for kids to explore their world safely. As a result, they’re more likely to become anxious. Dr. Biller says.
He adds that authoritarian parenting is one style that research links to increased odds of eating disorders in girls, which can become evident in late adolescence and adulthood.

4. No structure
On the other end of the spectrum, a lack of structure in childhood can also raise the odds that someone becomes anxious as an adult.
“Boundaries and structure are necessary for children and adolescents to experience safety and security, which is a fundamental need,” Dr. Biller says.
Without the structure, he explains that insecurities increase, and anxiety symptoms are more likely to drag on.

5. Enabling
Enabling isn’t just about letting a child do whatever they want (see: no structure). There can be an emotional component. Dr. Adelman says parents and grandparents who enable children are strongly affected by a child’s distress and team up with them to avoid the feeling. The child learns that negative emotional reactions aren’t to be challenged—a key cog in emotional regulation in healthy adults—but obeyed.
“This leads to patterns of anxiety and avoidance that often lead to less and less engagement and set the stage for adolescent and young adult behavioral patterns that feed the strength of the anxiety response by continued behavioral avoidance of any stress-inducing situation,” he explains.

6. Lack of emotional validation
Enabling doesn’t help, but Dr. Adelman says you’re also likely to become anxious if your grown-ups disregarded your feelings in childhood. Responses like “toughen up” or “get over it” fit that bill and may have made it harder for “little you” to feel safe voicing your concerns and working from a place of power and control to regulate your emotions and anxiety. So, it’s unsurprising that “adult you” also struggles with anxiety—you were never given the power to learn.
7. Focus on the outcome, on the investment
Sometimes, kids need an “A” for effort—even if the report card says “C.”
Dr. Adelman says that a hyper-focus on sports performance, grades and even social standing without a tailored investment in a child (which helps them feel seen) lays the foundation for anxiety. He explains that people raised in these settings are highly sensitive to negative events and emotions and anxious.

How To Heal1. Nurture emotional attachments
Dr. Adelman says it’s important to invest in relationships that bring you joy and connection, especially if you had negative attachments to parents, grandparents or other caregivers early in life. The goal is to challenge negative attachments and break cycles.
“Learn over time which relationships bring you enjoyment and happiness and build your self-esteem,” he suggests. “Take time to invest in these relationships and build awareness of the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ behind their health.”

2. Avoid avoidance
According to Dr. Adelman, continuing to engage (even when it’s hard) is a pillar of coping with anxiety in adulthood. While avoiding something because you’re anxious might seem like a good solution in the moment, chronically restricting your world can only make things worse. Plus, facing the issue helps you build perseverance. It won’t be easy, though.
“Be gentle with yourself in this process,” he stresses. “Make sure to both be aware of and validate your own emotional response, but be cautious not to invest too much in it.”

3. Explore your anxiety with a therapist
You’ve been living like this for a while and may need some help learning how to cope and heal.
“Therapists are neutral parties that assist us in exploring the intersection of our histories and our current functioning,” Dr. Biller says. “While assisting us in exploring our thoughts and feelings, within a safe container, professional therapists also are able to assist in building coping strategies that enable us to manage thoughts and feelings which we seek to change.”

Cats’ ***** recruit Smith raring to go against Dockers
Cats’ ***** recruit Smith raring to go against Dockers
Star midfielder Bailey Smith is “jumping out of his skin” as Geelong prepare to formally unveil their ***** recruit in the AFL round-one clash with Fremantle.
The high-profile trade acquisition is a certain starter at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday in what will be his first appearance at the top level since August 2023.
Smith, who didn’t play a game for the Western Bulldogs last year because of a knee reconstruction, starred in his first pre-season hit-out for the Cats against Hawthorn last month.
The 24-year-old sat out the final practice outing against Essendon after tweaking his knee but is all clear to take on the Dockers in forecast hot conditions.
“He’s jumping out of his skin,” Geelong veteran Tom Stewart said.
“It’s been long and challenging for him individually but ever since he’s got to the club I’ve been really proud of the way he’s applied himself to his craft and to his work.
“He’s different with the way that he comes with the media attention and his character within society.
“But you can only speak so highly of the way that he’s embraced our culture and come in and put his head down and got to work.
“He’s really dragged a lot of the young boys along with him as well.”
Smith was largely pushed out to a wing late in his time with the Bulldogs but could play a variety of roles with the Cats, starting in the midfield and spending time across half-forward.
“His ability to play with penetration is something we’re really excited about,” Stewart said.
“He gets the ball going our way, he’s strong in the contest and he drives his legs and uses his foot, which is as good as you’ll see.
“We saw that (in previous years) and if he can bring those traits to our team it’s going to really help.”
Smith and delisted free agent Jack Martin were the Cats’ main off-season acquisitions after their 2024 campaign ended in a heartbreaking 10-point loss to eventual premiers Brisbane in a preliminary final.
The two sides were due to open the new campaign last week, but their Gabba clash was postponed because of Cyclone Alfred.
Stewart expects Geelong to be in the mix again this season without the need for wholesale changes.
“It would be naive of us to think that we don’t have to shift and pivot, but we as a club have had such consistency for a long ******* of time and we understand what it is to play finals footy,” Stewart said.
“In my time I’ve played in two grand finals and four prelims in eight years.
“You do tinker at the edges but what we value and at our core who we are as a group doesn’t really change that much.”

A single-engine plane crashes near a Pennsylvania airport and all 5 aboard are taken to hospitals
A single-engine plane crashes near a Pennsylvania airport and all 5 aboard are taken to hospitals
A single-engine airplane carrying five people crashed and burst into flames Saturday in the parking lot of a retirement community near a small airport in suburban Pennsylvania, and everyone on board survived, officials and witnesses said.
The fiery ****** happened around 3 p.m. just south of Lancaster Airport in Manheim Township, police Chief Duane Fisher told reporters at an evening briefing. All five victims were taken to hospitals in unknown condition. Nobody on the ground was hurt, the chief said.
Brian Pipkin was driving nearby when he noticed the small plane climbing before it suddenly veered to the left.

“And then it went down nose first,” he told The Associated Press. “There was an immediate fireball.”
Pipkin called 911 and then drove to the ****** site, where he recorded video of ****** smoke billowing from the plane’s mangled wreckage and multiple cars engulfed in flames in a parking lot at Brethren Village. He said the plane narrowly missed hitting a three-story building at the sprawling retirement community about 75 miles (120 km) west of Philadelphia.
A fire truck from the airport arrived within minutes, and more first responders followed quickly.
“It was so smoky and it was so hot,” Pipkin said. “They were really struggling to get the fire out.” A dozen parked cars were damaged, Fisher said.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed there were five people aboard the Beechcraft Bonanza.
Air traffic control audio captured the pilot reporting that the aircraft “has an open door, we need to return for a landing.” An air traffic controller is heard clearing the plane to land, before saying, “Pull up!” Moments later, someone can be heard saying the aircraft was “down just behind the terminal in the parking lot street area.”
The FAA said it will investigate.
The ****** comes about a month after seven people were killed when an air ambulance burst into flames after crashing onto a busy Philadelphia street.

Labor ‘advocating very forcefully’ for tariff carve out as deadline looms
Labor ‘advocating very forcefully’ for tariff carve out as deadline looms
Richard Marles says the Albanese government is “advocating very forcefully” for an *********** exemption from US tariffs on steel and aluminium imports days before they are set to kick in.
Donald Trump caught Canberra off-guard when he announced he would slap levies of 25 per cent “without exemptions or exceptions” despite telling Anthony Albanese an *********** carve out was “under consideration”.
Since then, both the Albanese government and the Coalition have found themselves increasingly at odds with the new administration on key foreign policy issues, including global trade.
The Deputy Prime Minister said on Monday an *********** exemption “makes sense”.
“We’ve been advocating very forcefully to the Trump administration about why it makes sense for there to be a carve out for *********** steel and aluminium, *********** exports in general,” Mr Marles told Sky News.
“Our two‑way trade with the United States is trade which is very much in the United States’ favour.
“It makes sense that all of this is tariff free. And indeed, to the extent that we do provide exports to the United States, that’s supporting US jobs.
“Now that’s an argument that we’ve been making with the US administration.”
Mr Marles is one of the very few Labor cabinet ministers to visit Washington to meet with his new counterparts, making him central to relationship building with the new White House.
He said the Albanese government had “been getting a good hearing” but conceded it was unclear.
Many Canadians have decided to hit the US where it hurts by turning their backs on American products in its supermarkets.

“We’ll see where it lands,” Mr Marles said.
“But you can be assured that this government will leave no stone unturned in terms of pursuing the case on behalf of Australia.”
The tariffs are set to kick in on Thursday (AEDT).

Atlanta teacher’s body found a month after he disappeared on a Georgia lake, sheriff says
Atlanta teacher’s body found a month after he disappeared on a Georgia lake, sheriff says
ATLANTA (AP) — The body of an Atlanta teacher and coach who vanished last month while boating on Georgia’s Lake Oconee has been recovered from waters not far from where his fiancee was found dead shortly after their outing, a sheriff told news outlets Sunday.
Sheriff Howard Sills of Putnam County told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Gary Jones’ body was found on Sunday afternoon in about 45 feet (13 meters) of water on the popular tourist lake southeast of Atlanta.
The discovery was made not far from where the body of Jones’ fiancee, Spelman College instructor Joycelyn Wilson, was found a day after the two went missing on Feb. 8, the newspaper reported. It comes a month to the day that Wilson’s body was recovered in the vicinity of where Jones’ empty two-seater fishing boat and his sneakers were found floating.

Sills said Jones’ body was found by Wisconsin search-and-recovery expert Keith Cormican, who was brought in by Jones’ family over the weekend and used sophisticated underwater sonar in his effort, the newspaper reported.
Jones was a teacher and track and field coach at the Westminster Schools, an exclusive Atlanta private school. The empty boat was discovered circling in the water, triggering an intensive search of the lake.
The sheriff’s office said previously that it had obtained video of Wilson and Jones launching their small boat from a marina. Authorities said at the time that they had been staying at a hotel on the lake, about 85 miles (135 kilometers) southeast of Atlanta.
The area where the body was found is about 3 miles (nearly 5 kilometers) northwest of a dam that separates Lake Oconee from neighboring Lake Sinclair just to the south. Underwater timber still stands from when the Oconee River basin was flooded to build the lake nearly half a century ago.
Previous searches involved a trained cadaver dog, government vessels and private boats, a helicopter and underwater sonar to probe parts of the lake as deep as 80 feet (24 meters).
