Top military officials to speak as ceasefire holds
Top military officials to speak as ceasefire holds
Top military officials from India and Pakistan are due to speak later on Monday to discuss finer details of the ceasefire agreed between them on Saturday.
The US-brokered ceasefire between the nuclear-armed neighbours appears to have held overnight after nearly four days of intense shelling and aerial incursions from both sides.
On Saturday, President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, saying “it was time to stop the current aggression that could have led to the death and destruction of so many, and so much”.
Both nations have ceased hostilities since then but say they remain vigilant, warning each other of the consequences of violating the ceasefire.
The tensions were the latest in the rivalry between the neighbours who have fought two wars over Kashmir, a Himayalan region which they claim in full but administer in part.
The recent hostilities threatened to turn into a full-fledged war as both countries appeared unwilling to back down and threatened to escalate if the other didn’t relent.
Both countries have said that dozens of people from both sides died over the four days of fighting last week, partly due to heavy shelling near the de facto border.
After the ceasefire, however, the both the rivals declared military victory.
On 07 May, India reported striking nine targets inside Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir in response to the deadly militant attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 tourists.
India blamed a Pakistan-based group for the attack but Islamabad denies any involvement.
In the days since the first strike, India and Pakistan accused each other of cross border shelling and claimed to have shot down rival drones and aircraft in their airspace.
As the conflict escalated, both nations said they have struck the rival’s military bases.
Indian officials reported striking 11 Pakistan Air Force bases, including one in Rawalpindi, near the capital Islamabad. India also claimed Pakistan lost 35-40 men at the Line of Control during the conflict and the neighbour’s air force lost a few aircraft.
Pakistan has accepted some Indian projectiles landed up at its air force bases.
Indian defence forces have also said that it struck nine armed group training facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, killing more than 100 militants.
Pakistan military, in turn, claims it targeted about 26 military facilities in India and its drones hovered over Delhi.
India has also accepted some Pakistani projectiles landed up at its air force bases.
Pakistan also claims to have shot down five Indian aircraft, including three French Rafales – which India has not acknowledged, though it said that “losses are a part of combat”.
Pakistan denied the claims that an Indian pilot was in its custody after she ejected following an Indian aircraft ******. India has also said that “all our pilots are back home”.

Project aims to return ‘keystone’ elk to *** after 3,000 years
Project aims to return ‘keystone’ elk to *** after 3,000 years
Greig Watson
BBC News, Nottingham
Getty Images
Eurasian elk are still widespread in parts of Scandinavia and eastern Europe
Wildlife experts are “very excited” at the prospect of bringing back elks to the East Midlands – and to the *** – for the first time in about 3,000 years.
The Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Wildlife Trusts have secured £15,000 of funding from the Rewilding Britain charity to begin feasibility studies into their return.
The animals are regarded as “keystone” species which can create and maintain habitats for diverse other species.
Janice Bradley, from Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust (NWT), said one of the major challenges was getting the public used to the idea that elk “should be here”.
Mats Hagwall
Elk can play an important role in maintaining wetland habitats
European elk were originally widespread in Britain but were hunted to extinction in the Neolithic era.
Ms Bradley, head of nature recovery (north), said: “They are one of our lost species.
“They used to roam all over the place, through lots of different habitats, throughout the ***.
“They would have roamed through the wetlands of the Trent, in and out of reed beds and pools, woods and grasslands, so they are native and were lost due to hunting, probably by Neolithic people, and we think they should be brought back to fulfil their role in optimising habitats for other wildlife.”
Getty Images
The successful reintroduction of beavers to parts of the *** could help guide the project
The new funding will pay for a disease risk assessment, to study whether reintroduced elk would bring infections to existing livestock or vice versa.
Ms Bradley thinks the successful reintroduction of beavers could be a good guide to the new project.
“We consulted with 2,000 households to say what was going on,” she said.
“We would intend to do the same with elk, to inform residents and let them know what we are doing.
“But also helpfully get people excited and engaged.
“And engaging with landowners is very, very important part of any of the next steps.
“One of the first challenges is getting people used to the idea these animals are native to this country and they should be back here.”
Getty Images
Wild moose, similar to elk, can be a significant hazard for motorists
An average adult moose stands between 4ft 7in and 6ft 11in (1.4m to 2.1m) high at the shoulder and can weigh from 380kg to 700 kg (838 to 1,543 lb).
Does Ms Bradley believe such animals can be brought back to the *** and allowed into the wild?
“Initially our elk and beavers would be in same enclosure, bringing them back together in the *** for the first time in 3,000 years,” she said.
“But because elk prefer to be in those big, complex wetland habitats, eventually we would be looking at elk along the Trent valley.
“They would very much stay in those habitats, they wouldn’t be roaming across roads like deer, but that’s a very long way away yet.
“But I’d like to see them sooner rather than later.”

Dragonheir: Silent Gods has announced a major relaunch and a comeback to the US, with pre-registration now open
Dragonheir: Silent Gods has announced a major relaunch and a comeback to the US, with pre-registration now open
Better gacha rates
Streamlined levels
Improved combat system
After their Dungeons & Dragons collab, SGRA Studio and Level Infinite have announced an official global relaunch for Dragonheir: Silent Gods, offering major changes to the fantasy RPG based on player feedback. It seems like the so-called “rebirth” will revamp the hero levelling system as well as improve the gacha rates, with lower costs for summons and a more accessible pity system – which, to me, is always a good thing with any summons pool.
Since its 2023 release, Dragonheir: SIlent Gods has had more than 10 million players across the globe, and this time around, it will be making a comeback to North America after service was terminated last year. Elemental Affinity will be overhauled into a new “comps” system as part of the team’s efforts to streamline progess, which includes a unified level for all heroes.
As for seasonal content, each one will zero in on a specific core gameplay feature such as Alliance PvP and Alliance Boss modes. And if you’re worried about all your hard work in the RPG so far, fret not – user data will supposedly remain intact, so you can retain your heroes, Skill Scrolls, Artifacts, Wyrmarrows, Dragon Crystals, and dice despite starting over from Season 1.
You can pre-register to score goodies for now – not to mention grab 5 Heliolite Dice, 10 Starlight Stone Dice, and 1,000,000 Gold by redeeming the code “BRANDNEWDH” until May 31st.
In the meantime, if you’re eager to join in on all the fun, you can do so by checking out Dragonheir: SIlent Gods on the App Store and on Google Play. It’s free-to-play with in-app purchases.
You can also join the community of followers on the official Facebook page to stay updated on all the latest developments, visit the official website for more info, have a look at our Dragonheir tier list, or take a little peek at the embedded clip above to get a feel of the vibes and visuals.

I’m a Gastroenterologist, and This Is My Go-To Order When I Eat Out
I’m a Gastroenterologist, and This Is My Go-To Order When I Eat Out
When you cook at home, you have complete control over the ingredients. You can make your meal as nutrient-rich as you want and avoid anything you know won’t sit well with you. When you eat out, knowing exactly what’s in your food is a bit tricker. Often, the meal choices aren’t as healthy as they may be if you were to make a similar dish at home—and that’s on top of the oversized portions.
How can you keep your gut happy while enjoying a nice meal out? As gastroenterologists share here, there are some helpful guidelines to keep in mind, which can make figuring out what to order easier. After all, eating to support your gut health benefits the entire body. Keep reading to see what G.I. docs order when they eat out—great examples of meals that support gut health and are super delicious.
SIGN UP for tips to stay healthy & fit with the top moves, clean eats, health trends & more delivered right to your inbox twice a week
Guidelines G.I. Docs Follow When They Eat Out
Does eating with gut health in mind mean being limited to the salad options? Absolutely not. Dr. Gina Wideroff, MD, a gastroenterologist with Gastro Health in Jupiter, Florida, says that when she eats out, she eyes the menu for foods high in fiber, unsaturated fats, probiotics and protein.
“I opt for plant-based proteins, poultry or fish and I consume lean cuts of unprocessed red meat in moderation,” she reveals.
In terms of foods she avoids when she eats out, Dr. Wideroff says she steers clear of ultra-processed foods that contain emulsifiers, preservatives, artificial sweeteners and refined sugars. She also skips processed meats since they are associated with a higher risk of colon *******. No Reubens, hot dogs or BLTs for her!
Related: Here’s What People Actually Mean When They Talk About ‘Gut Health’
“I try to make food choices that are gut-friendly with diverse plant foods, healthy fats, fermented ingredients and whole grains. These foods enhance the gut microbiome—the trillions of microscopic organisms living in the intestines—that can affect digestive and overall health,” Dr. Wideroff says.
Dr. Rohan Jeyarajah, MD,the Chair of Surgery at Burnett School of Medicine at Texas Christian University and a gastrointestinal health specialist, says that when he eats out, he scours the menu for an entree that balances protein, vegetables and carbohydrates. Anything fried is ruled out. There’s a good reason for that too: Scientific research shows that fried foods kill the good bacteria in the gut.

Gastroenterologists’ Go-To Orders For Eating Out
These guidelines are helpful, but you may still be wondering what it looks like to put them into practice. What are examples of meals you can order that are good for gut health? “I enjoy Mediterranean-style grain bowls with a protein like grilled chicken or falafel, plenty of vegetables, quinoa and hummus,” Dr. Wideroff says.
If Dr. Wideroff sees fish on the menu, it’s another option she’ll consider. “I might order the fresh catch, blackened, with a side of vegetables,” she says. If she’s at a ******** restaurant, Dr. Wideroff says she’ll order a burrito bowl with grilled chicken, vegetables and avocado. “I usually ask for a reduced portion of rice,” she adds.
Related: You Are What You Eat! Nutritionists Say These Are the 18 Best Foods for Gut Health
When Dr. Jeyarajah gets to pick the restaurant for a meal out, he goes for Thai, explaining, “I love spice, so Thai cuisine is one of my favorites.” At Thai restaurants, it’s easy to find menu options with lots of veggies and plant-based protein, like tofu, that are full of gut-healthy fiber.
Besides Thai, Dr. Jeyarajah enjoys a lean steak paired with a vegetable when he’s eating out. “By eating leaner protein and not too much ****, you can feel less bloated and sleep [better] without having too many carbs before going to bed,” he shares.
No matter what type of restaurant you’re at, if you want to eat with gut health in mind, Dr. Wideroff says to choose an entree that’s high in fiber and unsaturated fats and made with minimally processed ingredients. If you can customize your meal, she recommends taking advantage of it.
“Customize a dish, such as swapping fries for a salad. If choosing a salad, ask for dressing on the side and avoid heavy cream sauces,” she suggests.
Both doctors also say that it’s important to be mindful of portion size.
“Consider splitting a meal or making a point to take home leftovers,” Dr. Wideroff says. While you’re eating, Dr. Jeyarajah recommends consistently checking in with yourself by periodically stopping to eat to see if you’re still hungry. Often, fullness cues are ignored, leading to that uncomfortable, too-full feeling.
With these tips in mind, you can have a delicious meal and know that you’re supporting your gut health in the process. Talk about a winning meal!

After days of heavy firefights, calm reported along Indian and Pakistan borders
After days of heavy firefights, calm reported along Indian and Pakistan borders
NEW DELHI (AP) — Indian and Pakistani authorities said on Monday that there were no reported incidents of firing overnight along the heavily militarized region between their countries, the first time in recent days that the two nations were not shooting at each other.
India and Pakistan on Saturday reached an understanding to stop all military actions on land, in the air and at the sea, in a U.S.-brokered ceasefire to stop escalating hostilities between the two nuclear-armed rivals that threatened regional peace.
“The night remained largely peaceful across Jammu and Kashmir, and other areas along the international border,” the Indian army said in a statement, adding that no incidents had been reported.
Senior military officials from India and Pakistan are scheduled to speak later Monday to assess if ceasefire was holding. There were fears it would not hold after they accused each other of violations just hours after it was announced.
Local government officials in Pakistan-administered Kashmir reported no incidents of cross-border firing along the Line of Control and said that civilians displaced by recent skirmishes between Pakistani and Indian forces were returning to their homes.
Pakistan’s military spokesperson, Lt. Gen. Ahmad Sharif, said late Sunday that Pakistan remains committed to upholding the ceasefire and will not be the first to violate it.
He also confirmed that senior military officials from both nations would speak on by phone on Monday.
The militaries of the two countries have been engaged in one of their most serious confrontations in decades since last Wednesday, when India struck targets inside Pakistan it said were affiliated with militants responsible for the massacre of 26 tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir. The tourists, mostly Indian Hindu men, were brutally killed in front of their families in the meadow town of Pahalgam last month.
India accused Pakistan of backing the militants who carried out the massacre, a charge Islamabad denied. The incident first led to a spat of ****-for-tat diplomatic measures by both the nations, sending their bilateral ties to a near historic low.
The two expelled each other’s diplomats, shut their airspace, land borders, and suspended a crucial water treaty.
After Wednesday’s strikes in Pakistan, both sides exchanged heavy fires along their de facto border in the restive Kashmir region followed by missile and drone strikes into each other’s territories, mainly targeting military installations and airbases. Dozens of civilians were killed on both the sides in heavy shelling, the two countries said.
The Indian military on Sunday for the first time claimed its strikes into Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and Pakistan last week killed more than 100 militants, including prominent leaders.
Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai, the director general of India’s military operations, who will be talking to his Pakistani counterpart on Monday, said India’s armed forces struck nine militant infrastructure and training facilities, including sites of the Lashkar-e-Taiba group that India blames for carrying out major militant strikes in India and the disputed region of Kashmir.
Ghai said at least 35 to 40 Pakistani soldiers were killed in clashes along the Line of Control, the de facto border that divides the disputed Kashmir region between India and Pakistan. Five Indian soldiers were also killed, he said.
Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Thursday said his country’s armed forces had killed 40 to 50 Indian soldiers along the Line of Control. Pakistani military also claimed to have shot down five Indian fighter jets and inflected heavy losses on Indian military installations by targeting 26 locations in India.
The Associated Press couldn’t independently verify the claims made by India and Pakistan.

Mitsubishi’s former ******** joint venture eyes RHD markets, could include Australia
Mitsubishi’s former ******** joint venture eyes RHD markets, could include Australia
You may never have heard of Soueast, but the ******** car company is expanding its global presence – and Australia could be in its sights.
The brand was established in 1995 as a joint venture between China Motor Corporation, Fujian Motor Industry Group and Mitsubishi Motors, before it was acquired by Chery in 2024.
The company that once built Mitsubishis could therefore be coming to compete with the Japanese brand in our market – including by offering a ute.
Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now.

Since being acquired by Chery, it has focused on left-hand drive markets with petrol-powered SUVs and sedans, along with plug-in hybrids. This year, it’ll add Mexico to its list of global markets.
Across 2026 and 2027, it plans to expand into right-hand drive markets “while achieving a balance between fuel, hybrid and electric models”.
While it didn’t specify Australia in its announcement, this market is already teeming with ******** brands eager to demonstrate success in a competitive, well developed Western market like ours.
From 2028 to 2030 it aims to “[complete] the industrialisation of new energy vehicles” and says it will prioritise pure EVs for Europe.
Camera IconS06 Credit: CarExpert
“We’re not just entering markets — we’re deeply embedding ourselves within them and earning a seat at the table,” said Dai Lihong, vice president of Chery and president of Soueast.
The company says it operates six overseas R&D hubs across “high-potential” markets, including the Middle East, ASEAN and Brazil.
Work conducted in the Middle East has involved optimising heat resistance of vehicle components and the effectiveness of Soueast models’ air-conditioning.
Soueast also operates plants across the Middle East, Asia, Africa and South America that assemble vehicles from knocked-down kits.
Camera IconSupplied Credit: CarExpert
It says it intends to have two global models targeting the B-SUV segment, three “premium” C-SUV models, and B- and C-segment sedans.
In ******** segmentation, B-segment vehicles are mid-sizers while C-segment vehicles are large.
Soueast also says it intends to launch a ute by 2030, but hasn’t offered any more details on the vehicle.
The brand currently offers a range of SUVs – the S06, S07 and S09 – in markets like the UAE.
Camera IconS07 Credit: CarExpertCamera IconSupplied Credit: CarExpert
The S06 measures 4616mm long, 1910mm wide and 1690mm tall on a 2720mm wheelbase, making it effectively the same size as a Toyota RAV4.
It offers a choice of turbocharged 1.5- and 1.6-litre petrol engines, mated with either six- or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions.
Soueast’s Super Hybrid plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology – offered in the S06 – features a 150kW electric motor, a 19.4kWh battery, and a 1.5-litre engine.
Total system outputs are 265kW of power and 530Nm of torque, with electric range of 114km on the NEDC cycle and over 1000km of combined range.
Camera IconS09 Credit: CarExpertCamera IconSupplied Credit: CarExpert
The S07 is larger, measuring 4724mm long, 1900mm wide and 1720mm tall on a 2720mm wheelbase.
However, it sticks with a choice of turbo-petrol 1.5- or 1.6-litre engines. Interestingly, the former is offered with a six-speed manual as well, while the latter can be had with either a seven-speed dual-clutch or an eight-speed torque-converter auto.
The S09 is the flagship, measuring 4858mm long, 1925mm wide and 1780mm tall on a 2850mm wheelbase.
That makes it 43mm longer, 25mm wider and 80mm taller than a Kia Sorento on a 35mm longer wheelbase.
Camera Icon2014 V3 Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon2020 DX7 Credit: CarExpert
It’s offered with a choice of five- or seven-seat configurations, and either 1.6-litre or 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines – the latter pumping out 187kW of power and 390Nm of torque.
Mitsubishi sold off its share in Soueast back in 2021, but prior to this the ******** joint venture brand produced vehicles like the Lancer, Galant/380, Delica, and Nimbus.
During the 2010s, it also rolled out a range of vehicles that were styled by Pininfarina but which used Mitsubishi technology, though after several years of declining sales it was acquired by Chery.

‘Suffering makes us strong’ – the new Barcelona set for greatness
‘Suffering makes us strong’ – the new Barcelona set for greatness
After a heartbreaking defeat by Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-finals, there was a very real possibility of Barcelona’s season falling apart.
In recent seasons, perhaps it would. Downgrading a potential treble to a solitary cup triumph would have been on brand not so long ago, given the club’s struggles on and off the pitch in recent years.
But this is a new Barcelona.
After falling 2-0 behind in Sunday’s Clasico against arch-rivals Real Madrid – the third time in four matches they have done that – Barcelona roared back to lead 4-2 at half-time, 4-3 by the end.
After surviving some late Madrid pressure, Barcelona know victory against Espanyol on Thursday will secure a 28th league crown. Defeat for Madrid against Mallorca on Wednesday would do the job for them.
Four Clasico victories in the same season – only the second time that has ever happened – highlights the marvelous job Hansi Flick has done since replacing Xavi as manager last summer.
A team who not too long ago lacked identity and belief now have both in abundance, even if they don’t do things the easy way.
With young players including Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Pau Cubarsi enjoying stellar campaigns, the Blaugrana look well equipped to fight on all fronts for years to come.
After a quite opening ******* on Sunday, Flick’s attack picked Madrid apart with their relentless pressing and ruthless finishing.
Defence remains a concern, and despite his loyalty to a high-line system, Flick pledged to work on it.
“I think this journey that we started last year, it’s not over – I know that we have to improve a lot in defence,” he said.
“It has nothing to do with the back four. When we make mistakes, Real have fantastic offensive players.”
Speaking to Movistar Plus, Yamal said: “It was obviously very important to win today. It’s great to have this game after the Champions League, I think it’s already forgotten.
“Suffering is what makes you strong and what teaches you to correct the mistakes you make.
“It’s been a difficult year; we haven’t been able to be in our stadium… In the end, I told my mother, the Champions League is every year. We’ll keep trying.
“It was very important to win today to get closer to the league title. We are delighted.”
Victory means Barcelona have a seven-point advantage over second-placed Real Madrid with three games remaining. They are almost there.

iOS 19 Will Reportedly Sync Public Wi-Fi Networks Across All Your Apple Devices for More Convenience
iOS 19 Will Reportedly Sync Public Wi-Fi Networks Across All Your Apple Devices for More Convenience
iOS 19 could make it easier to connect all your devices to public Wi-Fi networks, according to claims by a seasoned journalist. Apple is expected to soon preview the latest firmware iterations, such as iOS 19, for the iPhone and other devices. The OS is said to debut with a new system which synchronises the credentials for Wi-Fi access across the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, enabling users to enter the information on any one device and quickly access the network on all of them.
Wi-Fi Synchronisation in iOS 19
In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman highlighted a new system that is currently under development. It is reported to be a “much requested” time-saving feature. As per the journalist, users may be able to enter the Wi-Fi details on the iPhone and access the network without having to do the same again on other devices such as the iPad or Mac.
This is said to prove beneficial when you’re connecting to a new Wi-Fi network at a hotel, office, or gym. The usual process of joining a public network requires you to fill out a web form on all of your devices on which you wish to access the internet. Instead of having to manually fill it out on all of them, you may only need to do it on one device and the new system could sync it across all your other Apple devices, potentially improving the convenience.
Wi-Fi syncing across devices may just be one of the many quality-of-life upgrades included in iOS 19.
Apple is reported to introduce a new design language with “glassy” effects akin to the Apple Vision Pro’s user interface (UI). Additionally, Apple Intelligence is expected to be integrated into more apps and features. Meanwhile, the company could also equip the iPad with a more powerful OS to bring its productivity level to par with Mac.
These additions are expected to be the standout announcements at Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, and you may not have to wait long to hear about them. The Cupertino-based tech giant has already announced the date of its next developer event and it will begin with a keynote on June 9. During the five-day affair, Apple is likely to unveil its upcoming operating system updates for the iPhone, Mac computers and other devices.
