The US and China have reached a deal to slash trade tariffs for 90 days
GENEVA (Reuters) -The United States and China said on Monday they have agreed a deal to slash reciprocal tariffs for now as the world’s two biggest economies seek to end a trade war that has disrupted the global outlook and set financial markets on edge.
Speaking after talks with ******** officials in Geneva, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters the two sides had agreed on a 90-day pause on measures.
Tariffs will come down by over 115 percentage points on both sides, meaning the 145% US duties on ******** imports will fall to 30%. China’s tariffs on US goods should drop to 10%, from 125%, during the pause.

“Both countries represented their national interest very well,” Bessent said. “We both have an interest in balanced trade, the U.S. will continue moving towards that.”
Bessent was speaking alongside U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer after the weekend talks in which both sides had hailed progress on narrowing differences.
The Geneva meetings were the first face-to-face interactions between senior U.S. and ******** economic officials since U.S. President Donald Trump returned to power and launched a global tariff blitz, imposing particularly hefty duties on China.
Since taking office in January, Trump has hiked the tariffs paid by U.S. importers for goods from China to 145%, in addition to those he imposed on many ******** goods during his first term and the duties levied by the Biden administration.
China hit back by putting export curbs on some rare earth elements, vital for U.S. manufacturers of weapons and electronic consumer goods, and raising tariffs on U.S. goods to 125%.
The tariff dispute brought nearly $600 billion in two-way trade to a standstill, disrupting supply chains, sparking fears of stagflation and triggering some layoffs.
Financial markets have been looking out for signs of a thaw in the trade war and Wall Street stock futures climbed and the dollar (DX=F) firmed against safe haven peers on Monday as the talks boosted hopes a global recession might be avoided.
“This is better than I expected. I thought tariffs would be cut to somewhere around 50% and this is much lower,” Zhiwei Zhang, chief economist at Pinpoint Asset Management, told Reuters. “Obviously, this is very positive news for economies in both countries and for the global economy, and makes investors much less concerned about the damage to global supply chains in the short term.”
“But we also need to keep in mind this is only a three-month temporary reduction of tariffs. So this is the beginning of a long process. The two sides will spend months probably, to come up with a resolution, or reach a final trade deal, but this is a very good starting point,” he added.

Kurdish group PKK says it is laying down arms and disbanding
Kurdish group PKK says it is laying down arms and disbanding
Outlawed Kurdish group the PKK, which has waged a 40-year insurgency against Turkey, has announced it is laying down its arms and disbanding.
The move followed a call in February by the group’s jailed leader, Abdullah Ocalan, for the organisation to disband. The group is banned as a terrorist group in Turkey, the EU, *** and US.
The PKK insurgency initially aimed to create an independent homeland for Kurds, who account for about 20% of Turkey’s population. But it has since moved away from its separatist goals, focusing instead on more autonomy and greater Kurdish rights.
More than 40,000 people have been killed during the conflict.
In February, Ocalan, 76, called on his movement to lay down its arms and dissolve itself. The PKK leader has been in solitary confinement in prison on an island in the Sea of Marmara, south-west of Istanbul, since 1999.
Ocalan wrote a letter from prison in February saying “there is no alternative to democracy in the pursuit and realisation of a political system. Democratic consensus is the fundamental way.”
It is unclear what Ocalan and his supporters will get in return for disbanding but there is speculation that he may be paroled.
Kurdish politicians will be hoping for a new political dialogue, and a pathway towards greater Kurdish rights.
Both sides had reasons to do a deal now.
The PKK has been hit hard by the Turkish military in recent years, and regional changes have made it harder for them and their affiliates to operate in Iraq and Syria.
President Erdogan needs the support of pro Kurdish political parties if he is to be able to run again in Turkey’s next presidential election, due in 2028.
The decision to disband was an important step towards a “terror-free Turkey”, and the process would be monitored by state institutions, a spokesperson for President Tayyip Erdogan’s AK Party said, according to Reuters news agency.
Winthrop Rodgers, from the international affairs think tank Chatham House, said it would take “a major democratic transition by Turkey” to accommodate demands from Kurdish political parties.
There has been “some goodwill” from some Turkish leaders in recent months, Rodgers said, which allowed the PKK disbandment to play out.
He added: “But whether that extends to the major changes needed to ensure full Kurdish participation in politics and society is far less clear.
“In a lot of ways, the ball is in Turkey’s court.”

Russian drones attack Ukraine after Kremlin turns down a ceasefire proposal
Russian drones attack Ukraine after Kremlin turns down a ceasefire proposal
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia launched more than 100 Shahed and decoy drones at Ukraine in nighttime attacks, the Ukrainian air force said Monday, after the Kremlin rejected an unconditional 30-day ceasefire in the more than 3-year war.
There was no response from the Kremlin, meanwhile, to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s challenge for Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to meet him for face-to-face peace talks in Turkey this week.
The United States and European governments have made a concerted push to stop the fighting, which has killed tens of thousands of soldiers on both sides as well as more than 10,000 Ukrainian civilians. Russia’s invading forces have taken around one-fifth of Ukraine.
In a flurry of diplomatic developments over the weekend, Russia shunned the ceasefire proposal tabled by the U.S. and European leaders but offered direct talks with Ukraine on Thursday.
Ukraine, along with European allies, had demanded Russia accept a ceasefire starting Monday before holding peace talks. Moscow effectively rejected that proposal and instead called for direct negotiations in Istanbul.
U.S. President Donald Trump insisted Ukraine accept the Russian offer. Zelenskyy went a step further and put the pressure on Putin by offering a personal meeting between the leaders.
In 2022, in the war’s early months, Zelenskyy repeatedly called for a personal meeting with the Russian president but was rebuffed, and eventually enacted a decree declaring that holding negotiations with Putin had become impossible.
Putin and Zelenskyy have only met once, in 2019. Trump says “deep hatred” between the sides has made it difficult to push peace efforts forward.

The Reason Overwatch Devs Unionized Also Applies to Marvel Rivals
The Reason Overwatch Devs Unionized Also Applies to Marvel Rivals
The gaming industry’s relationship with its talent has always been… complicated. One day you’re celebrated for creating a blockbuster title, and the next you’re updating your LinkedIn profile.
This harsh reality recently drove Blizzard’s Overwatch team to form a union of nearly 200 developers—the second wall-to-wall union at the company following World of Warcraft‘s similar move last July.
But this story isn’t just about Overwatch. It’s about a troubling pattern that’s becoming all too familiar—one that recently played out with NetEase Games’ Marvel Rivals team. The parallels are striking, and they reveal an uncomfortable truth about job security in an industry where success doesn’t guarantee safety.
When success sadly doesn’t guarantee job security
The Overwatch Gamemakers Guild-CWA was formed primarily in response to Microsoft’s sweeping layoffs in January 2024, which cut 1,900 people from its gaming division. This was the final straw for many developers after years of industry volatility.
According to Simon Hedrick, a test analyst at Blizzard (via Kotaku):
The biggest issue was the layoffs at the beginning of 2024. Up to that moment I’d been really happy in what I was doing. People were gone out of nowhere and there was nothing we could do about it
This sentiment isn’t unique to Blizzard. In February 2025, NetEase Games laid off its entire Seattle-based Marvel Rivals team, including the then-game director Thaddeus Sasser, despite the game attracting over 20 million players in its first weeks. The message was clear: even helping create a massively successful game doesn’t protect you from the chopping block.
The term “wall-to-wall” union is significant here—it means the union includes workers across all disciplines, from artists and engineers to writers and QA testers. It’s a comprehensive approach that gives the entire team collective bargaining power, not just specific roles.
For UI artist Sadie Boyd, who joined Blizzard in September 2024, the motivation was simple:
We’re not just a number on an Excel sheet. We want to make games but we can’t do it without a sense of security.
That’s the crux of it all. Developers pour their hearts into creating experiences that generate billions in revenue, yet they’re often treated as disposable assets.
A growing movement across the industry
The meta shift no one expected. | Image Credit: Blizzard Entertainment
The unionization wave isn’t limited to Blizzard. It’s part of a broader awakening across the gaming industry, with over 2,600 workers at Microsoft-owned studios now unionized with the Communications Workers of America (CWA).
This momentum has been building since 2018, when Game Workers Unite emerged as a grassroots organization at that year’s Game Developers Conference. Since then, we’ve seen unions form at studios like Bethesda, ZeniMax, ***** of America, and CD Projekt Red.
Senior Test Analyst Foster Elmendorf put it bluntly:
If [concessions] are given without organizing they can be taken away without it, too. For a long time I felt the video game industry needed more organizing.
Before following up with a particularly damning observation:
It’s been 20 years of asking for better pay and it hasn’t happened yet.
What’s particularly interesting is how Marvel Rivals has struggled to maintain its initial momentum since those layoffs. Yes, correlation doesn’t prove causation, but it sure does raise some questions about whether cutting experienced developers who understand Western markets might have long-term consequences for the game’s success.
The message from developers is clear: they want stability, fair compensation, and protection from the industry’s *****-and-bust cycles. As Boyd noted:
Our industry is at such a turning point. I really think with the announcement of our union on Overwatch…I know that will light some fires.
Those fires are already burning, and they’re spreading faster than many publishers anticipated. The days of treating game developers as expendable resources may finally—and hopefully—be coming to an end.
What do you think? Should more studios follow Blizzard’s lead and unionize? Or is there another solution to the industry’s job security problem? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Toowoomba: Lotto winner scores $3.3 million, but hasn’t answered the phone
Toowoomba: Lotto winner scores $3.3 million, but hasn’t answered the phone
One lucky lotto player is $3.3 million richer after the weekend’s draw. The only problem? They don’t know it yet.
A division one ticket worth $3.3 million, sold at Campbell’s News & Casket in Toowoomba, was one of six national winners in Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw.
But despite being a registered player, the mystery winner hasn’t picked up the phone.
The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said she’s been trying to deliver the life-changing news, but every call has hit a dead end.
“I was ready to reveal the life-enhancing news to the region’s newest division one winner,” she said.
“But sadly, whenever I called the number provided, it said it was disconnected.”
The ticket was part of the Members Club, meaning the winner’s details were on file, just not up to date.
Each of the six winning entries from the May 10 draw scored $3,333,333.34.
“If you purchased an entry from Campbell’s News & Casket and haven’t checked it yet, this could be your moment,” Ms Hobdell urged.
“We’re asking all players to dig out their tickets and check now.”
The winning numbers were 1, 35, 18, 25, 45 and 38, with supplementary numbers 4 and 16.
Queensland accounted for one of the six division one wins nationally, with the others spread across New South Wales and Victoria.
The Lott has now crowned 402 division one winners so far in FY25 — but one of them is still out there, possibly with a $3.3 million ticket sitting unnoticed on a kitchen bench.

Poland orders closure of Russian consulate in Krakow, citing arson attack blamed on Moscow
Poland orders closure of Russian consulate in Krakow, citing arson attack blamed on Moscow
WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski said Monday that he was ordering the closure of Russia’s consulate in the southern city of Krakow after Polish authorities said Russia was responsible for a fire that destroyed a shopping center in Warsaw last year.
“In connection with the evidence that the Russian special services committed a reprehensible act of sabotage against the shopping center on Marywilska Street, I have decided to withdraw my consent to the operation of the consulate of the Russian Federation in Krakow,” Sikorski said in a statement.
The fire broke out May 12, 2024, in the Marywilska 44 shopping center that housed some 1,400 shops and service points. Many of the vendors were from Vietnam, and it inflicted tragedy on many in Warsaw’s Vietnamese community.
The announcement comes amid rising concerns in Europe over Russian attempts to destabilize the region through covert operations.
Russia in the past has denied accusations that it is carrying out such attacks.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on X late Sunday that Polish officials “now know for certain that the massive fire on Marywilska was the result of arson commissioned by Russian services.”
“The actions were coordinated by a person residing in Russia. Some of the perpetrators are already in custody, while the rest have been identified and are being sought,” Tusk said. “We will catch them all!”

Teal Monique Ryan claims key Victorian seat of Kooyong from Liberals Amelia Hamer
Liberal candidate for Kooyong Amelia Hamer has conceded defeat to teal independent Monique Ryan, with result taking nine days to finalise.
Ms Hamer revealed in a post on her Instagram about 4.30pm on Monday that she had called Dr Ryan to congratulate her on her re-election.
“While counting continues, it is now clear the remaining ballots will not deliver us the majority we need to win the seat,” the post said.

Dr Ryan released a statement shortly after, thanking Ms Hamer for her campaign and wishing her the best for the future.
“I am deeply grateful to my family, friends, my incredible team, and the many, many
Kooyong volunteers, for their unwavering support over the past three years and
throughout this campaign,” Dr Ryan said.
“It’s a crucial time for Australia – we’re facing a cost-of-living crisis, housing shortages,
increasing intergenerational inequity, and our response to the global challenge of climate
change has been too slow and too incremental.
“With the Albanese government holding an increased majority, it’s time for it to show the courage we need – and respect the mandate given to it by the *********** public – by taking real action on these issues.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue to hold the government to account on the economy, climate, health, and the other critical issues for my community.”

Ms Hamer said standing as the Liberal candidate “has been an honour” and thanked a list of groups who had supported her campaign.
“To the more than 54,811 Kooyong locals who voted for me, thank you for your confidence and trust in me as a potential representative,” she said.
“To those who took the time to speak with me and share your perspectives, values and ideas, thank you.
“To all our incredible volunteers who knocked on countless doors, stood at train stations in the early mornings, and shopping centres on the weekend thank you.”
Ms Hamer concluded the post by saying the Liberal values “like individual freedom, equality of opportunity, and free enterprise”, are “timeless” and “worth fighting for”.
“We are so lucky to have a beautiful local community, a fair democracy, and a wonderful country,” she said.
“I hope to play my small part in making it a better place, now and into the future.”
The battle for the seat of Kooyong was one of the most closely watched of the May 23 election, after controversial moments derailed the campaign for both candidates.
As election campaigning began to ramp up in March, Dr Ryan’s husband was forced to apologise after he was filmed tearing down a corflute poster belonging to rival candidate Ms Hamer.

A month later, Ms Hamer was called out by Nine newspapers for owning properties in Canberra and London, despite claiming to be a renter throughout her election campaign.
Dr Ryan claimed Kooyong at the 2022 election, where she controversially booted former treasurer Josh Frydenberg.
Dr Ryan was a pediatric neurologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne before she entered politics.
“I was elected to advocate for urgent action on climate change, integrity in politics, and a strong and sustainable economy,” her website says.

TGI Fridays Is Shrinking Rapidly After Closing 185 Locations
TGI Fridays Is Shrinking Rapidly After Closing 185 Locations
A beloved restaurant chain is rapidly closing locations, with 30 locations closing in just one recent month alone and 185 being lost in just over a year.
TGI Fridays used to be a popular restaurant chain, familiar to people throughout the US. But now the number of restaurants that remain open is shrinking rapidly.
According to the chain’s website, there are now only 85 TGI Fridays restaurants left in the entire U.S. The restaurants are located in 19 states. Georgia has the most remaining with seven, according to the website.
According to CNN, this represents a “sharp decline,” from the 270 locations that were left at the beginning of 2024. The chain had 600 restaurants across the U.S. at its height in 2008, after launching in 1965, CNN reported.
In late 2024, the parent company for the brand filed for bankruptcy and has now been closing locations with “an additional 30 locations shuttering over the past month,” in March, 2025, CNN reported.
The company told CNN in April 2025 that TGI Fridays is “now led by franchisees, with a franchisee advisory board empowering and shaping brand-wide decisions.”
However, according to the company’s website, TGI Fridays has more locations in other countries, 44 in all. There are a total of 461 restaurants in all of those countries, the site says, calling the chain “the original casual dining bar and grill.”
In November, TGI Fridays announced that it had filed “voluntary petitions under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the Northern District of Texas. The Company expects to use the time and legal protections made available through the Chapter 11 restructuring process to allow the Company to explore strategic alternatives in order to ensure the long-term viability of the brand,” its statement reads.

Helldivers 2 Fans Claim Masters of Ceremony Warbond Is Too Scared to Make Boosters ‘Too Good’
Helldivers 2 Fans Claim Masters of Ceremony Warbond Is Too Scared to Make Boosters ‘Too Good’
The upcoming Masters of Ceremony Warbond for Helldivers 2 has triggered a wave of criticism from liberty-loving divers across Super Earth’s colonies. Set to drop on May 15, this premium warbond promises ceremonial gear befitting the most decorated defenders of managed democracy – but many fans aren’t saluting.
While the warbond’s regal aesthetic has earned praise, its practical offerings have left many veterans questioning Arrowhead’s decision-making. The included “Sample Scanner” booster, which (other than locating the samples themselves) offers a modest 15% chance to receive double samples, has become the latest target of community scrutiny. As some may put it, democracy demands better.
Community suggests alternative boosters with more punch
One creative Helldivers 2 player took matters into their own hands, suggesting what the booster “SHOULD have been” instead of the Sample Scanner.
Redditor SupRob16 (with the help of MS Paint) proposed a “Righteous Fury” booster that would increase movement speed and melee damage by 50% while holding a melee weapon. The suggestion makes perfect sense considering the warbond features two melee weapons: the CQC-2 Sabre and the controversial One True Flag.
“Bro imagine getting 50% more move speed. That’d be f***ing wild,” commented ArsenikMilk, highlighting the excitement such a booster would generate. The community seems to agree that movement speed alone would make this theoretical booster worth using.
User hamdogthecat added that this would be “one of the best boosters in the game for the movement speed alone. Even predator strain bugs would have trouble touching you.” This speaks to the current meta where mobility can mean the difference between spreading managed democracy and becoming bug food.
The community wants to go into “can’t touch this” mode. | Image Credit: Arrowhead Game Studios
The real issue, according to JesseMod93r, is that “they’re afraid to make boosters too good.” And this sentiment seems to resonate with many players who feel Arrowhead has, once again, started being overly cautious with game balance at the expense of fun.
Not everyone agrees with the proposed 50% boost, though. User damien24101982 cautioned that “they should be afraid, suggested one is just bonkers,” suggesting the numbers might need tweaking for balance.
The mysterious One True Flag might be more than meets the eye
When patriotism needs a sharp edge. | Image Credit: PlayStation/YouTube
Suggesting that the One True Flag stratagem is merely a melee weapon borders on sedition of the highest order. Any diver questioning High Command’s intentions should immediately face the wall—but let’s entertain some theories anyway.
The ceremonial flag-bearing stratagem has been marketed primarily as a melee weapon with extended reach, but we refuse to believe it lacks additional functionality. Stratagems typically offer tactical advantages beyond simple damage dealing, and the flag’s unique waving animation hints at untapped potential.
Perhaps the One True Flag generates a morale boost for nearby divers, enhancing their combat effectiveness through the sheer inspiration of Super Earth’s glorious banner. Or maybe planting it creates a temporary control point that speeds up mission objectives. The possibilities are endless, and the community’s imagination runs wild.
When the warbond finally drops next week, perhaps Arrowhead will surprise everyone with hidden features that make both the Sample Scanner and One True Flag more valuable than anticipated. Until then, the community will continue debating whether the developer is intentionally holding back on creating truly powerful boosters.
What do you think about Helldivers 2′s Masters of Ceremony Warbond? Is Arrowhead afraid of making boosters too powerful, or is there method to their madness? Share your thoughts in the comments!

David Beckham calls on Minnesota United to show respect
David Beckham’s star-studded Inter Miami were thrashed 4-1 by Minnesota United but it was the opposition’s social media activity that he took exception to – and the former England captain went straight to the comments section.
Saturday’s loss was the heaviest Inter had suffered since eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi joined the club in July 2023.
Argentina captain Messi, 37, scored in the second-half but Inter suffered a fourth defeat in their past five matches in all competitions.
After their home win, Minnesota posted a photo from the game on Instagram with the caption “Pink Phony Club” – a reference to the colour of Miami’s kit and the Chappell Roan song Pink Pony Club.
They also included a snapshot of the league table showing Minnesota moving above Inter.
Beckham, who co-owns the Major League Soccer club, commented on the post, writing: “Show a little respect, be elegant in triumph.”
Minnesota, who are managed by Welshman Eric Ramsay, then posted a picture of a banner from the game that read: “History over hype, culture over cash”, with the words “hype and cash” highlighted in pink.
Former Manchester United, Real Madrid and LA Galaxy midfielder Beckham, 50, again commented on the post, writing: “Respect over everything.”
Inter won last season’s Supporters’ Shield for the best regular season record, but lost in the first round of the play-offs.
They hired former Argentina and Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano in November but lost in the semi-finals of the Concacaf Champions Cup and are currently fourth in the MLS Eastern Conference.
Their team includes former Barca stars Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

Automaker unveils next-gen EV breakthrough to eliminate charging delays and extend driving range: ‘From research to reality’
Automaker unveils next-gen EV breakthrough to eliminate charging delays and extend driving range: ‘From research to reality’
In a major leap forward for the future of electric vehicles, Stellantis — the global force behind brands like Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler — has just validated a technology that could reshape the auto industry as we know it: solid-state EV batteries.
As Electrek reported, this isn’t just a science fair project anymore. Stellantis’ recent validation of Factorial Energy’s automotive solid-state battery cells signals that solid-state battery-run cars are coming to our driveways sooner than anyone could have imagined — possibly within the next few years.
Solid-state batteries promise to help solve the biggest headaches with today’s EVs. Think: longer driving range, much faster charge, better safety, and greater durability — all in a smaller, lighter package.
That means fewer worries about running out of juice, quicker pit stops at chargers, and more affordable cars thanks to cheaper long-term maintenance. No oil changes. No routine fluid swaps. Just quieter, cleaner rides with no ozone-destroying tailpipe pollution.
They are just a third of the size of traditional Li-ion batteries and 40% lighter (580 pounds compared to 800 pounds). Factorial is pushing for a driving range of over 600 miles per charge, according to Electrek.
Solid-state batteries have been the holy grail for years because they ditch the liquid electrolyte found in traditional lithium-ion batteries. Instead, they use a solid material that is far less flammable, making EVs even safer. And Stellantis isn’t just dabbling.
Watch now: How bad is a gas stove for your home’s indoor air quality?
The company has spent four years researching this breakthrough, partnering with Factorial Energy. Together, they’ve brought theory to action, with real-world testing now validating their designs in vehicles.
Today’s battery-powered cars are already greener than gas guzzlers. MIT found that EVs, on average, produce less air pollution over their lifetimes than traditional vehicles.
And while some critics point to the mining required for battery materials, it’s important to put things in perspective: We dig up around 16.5 billion tons of dirty fuels each year. Compare those numbers to the 30 million tons of minerals needed annually for clean energy technology.
Plus, those minerals aren’t burned into the atmosphere the way gas and oil are; they can be reused and recycled in future batteries.
If you were going to purchase an EV, which of these factors would be most important to you?

According to Electrek, Siyu Huang, Factorial Energy CEO, said: “While optimizing one feature is simple, balancing high energy density, cycle life, fast charging, and safety in an automotive-sized battery with OEM validation is a breakthrough.”
She added that the latest achievement is “bringing next-generation battery technology from research to reality.”
For drivers, solid-state batteries could be an environmental tipping point. Think of EVs that can routinely drive 500 miles or more without blinking. Dodge muscle cars that roar with pure electric torque. Jeep off-roaders that silently crawl rugged trails — all without carbon pollution.
According to Electrek, Stellantis plans to bring solid-state battery EVs to the market as soon as 2026. That’s just around the corner, making now a perfect time to start thinking about making your next car an EV.

Even Donald Trump’s Most MAGA Supporters Are Furious With Him Over Latest Move
Even Donald Trump’s Most MAGA Supporters Are Furious With Him Over Latest Move
Donald Trump has drawn fierce blowback from even some of his most devoted supporters over the Qatar jumbo jet controversy.
The president has said he is willing to accept a $400 million luxury Boeing 747-8 — which Qatar’s ruling family is reportedly considering to give as a gift — that will be used as Air Force One and then transferred to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation when he leaves office.
Conservatives and Democrats alike have flamed POTUS over the move.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, vented on social media: “Trump must seek Congress’ consent to take this $300 million gift from Qatar. The Constitution is perfectly clear: no present ‘of any kind whatever’ from a foreign state without Congressional permission. A gift you use for four years and then deposit in your library is still a gift (and a grift).”
“This isn’t a good idea even if the plane was being donated to the U.S. government. But Trump GETS TO KEEP THE PLANE???” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “It’s simply a cash payment to Trump in exchange for favors. Just wildly ********.”
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) fumed: “Congress must not allow this over-the-top kleptocracy to proceed.”
Senate ********* Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) added: “Nothing says ‘America First’ like Air Force One, brought to you by Qatar. It’s not just bribery, it’s premium foreign influence with extra legroom.”
Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), a longtime critic of Trump, asked: “Didn’t Hunter Biden once sell a painting and get investigated for four years?”
The Democratic Party, meanwhile, slammed it as “corruption in plain sight.”
On the other side of the aisle, conservative radio host and pundit Erick Erickson posted on social media: “The Qatari government is not our friend, cooperates with Iran and its proxies, and funds terrorism and pro-terror propaganda around the world.”
And far-right conspiracist Laura Loomer, usually a vocal supporter of Trump slammed the move.
“I love President Trump. I would take a bullet for him. But, I have to call a spade a spade,” she wrote, adding it is “really going to be such a stain on the admin if this is true. And I say that as someone who would take a bullet for Trump. I’m so disappointed.”
Jordan Libowitz, of the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington watchdog, was quoted by the Associated Press as saying: “You have to ask, if he makes foreign policy — especially in regards to the Middle East — how much is he being influenced by his gifts and his business deals.”
Trump, however, defended it in a post on his Truth Social platform, writing:
“So the fact that the Defense Department is getting a GIFT, FREE OF CHARGE, of a 747 aircraft to replace the 40 year old Air Force One, temporarily, in a very public and transparent transaction, so bothers the Crooked Democrats that they insist we pay, TOP DOLLAR, for the plane. Anybody can do that! The Dems are World Class Losers!!! MAGA”

Australia Cup: Perth Glory defender Kaelen Majekodunmi eager to end tough season on a high
Australia Cup: Perth Glory defender Kaelen Majekodunmi eager to end tough season on a high
It has not been the season young Perth Glory defender Kaelen Majekodunmi would have wanted at either a personal or team level, but he is eager to end it on a high.
Perth’s torrid season comes to a close with an Australia Cup play-off against Central Coast Mariners at Larrakia Park in Darwin on Tuesday evening.
Having already copped the A-League Men’s wooden spoon, Glory would prefer to avoid the ignominy of missing out on a spot in the main draw of the national knock-out competition when it kicks off in July.
21 year-old Majekodunmi played 10 games under previous coach Alen Stajcic, but found chances under David Zdrilic harder to come by.
He played in Perth’s opening round 6-1 defeat to Macarthur, then did not play again until a four-minute cameo in round 16 against Newcastle.
“It was a tough *******. I was out of the squad for a while, but I knew I just had to put my head down and continue working hard and then take my opportunity when it came again,” Majekodunmi said.
However, Majekodunmi started the final three games of the season and impressed, particularly in the 1-0 loss to Auckland FC.
“To come back in the squad, it’s been good to be back in the team and playing and giving it my all,” he said.
“He (Zdrilic) just said the opportunity will come, continue doing everything you’re doing, working hard off the pitch, showing good attitude, doing extra training, working on the small details, and you’ll get your chance again.”
Perth won two of their last three games and Majekodunmi said Glory were keen to win the play-off game to ensure the cup played an important part in their pre-season preparations.
“It means a lot to the club because we’re so isolated from all the other states,” he said.

“Going through in the Australia Cup pretty much sets up our pre-season for us, so this game is really important.”
Majekodunmi will likely partner Tomi Mrcela in defence and like another young Perth defender in Andriano Lebib, the centre-back praised the veteran for his leadership and guidance.
“He’s an amazing centre back with a lot of experience. He’s always organising me, talking to me after training, what I could have done in this scenario, just little details to position myself better, and it’s been good,” he said.
