A Charlotte company seeks to move its HQ to the Lake Norman area. Here’s what to know

A Charlotte company seeks to move its headquarters to the Lake Norman area, but it will need approval from local officials first.

, a regional IT service provider currently based in Midtown, submitted a request to the Lincoln County Planning Board to rezone 31 acres on the lake from residential single family to general business, which would allow the company to move its corporate headquarters to Denver.

The subject property is located at 920 N. N.C. 16 Business Hwy., on the east side of the roadway at the intersection with Triangle Circle in Catawba Springs Township.

Though the company wants to rezone the entire property, only a small portion will be used for a two-story, 40,000-square-foot office building, according to the

At the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners meeting on Aug. 5, the company’s CEO Scott Bartlett, who is also a Lincoln County resident, said the building will be used by up to 20 employees at a time.

Bartlett also told commissioners that 75% of the company’s employees live in Lincoln or Gaston counties, so the move would offer a shorter commute for workers.

But officials and residents who live near the proposed site have concerns the rest of the land could be developed into a larger office park or single-family homes, which could generate more traffic on N.C. 16 Business.

Lincoln County Planning & Inspections Planner Jeremiah Combs clarified, if the rezoning request is approved, medical offices, neighborhood retail and a childcare center would be among the accepted land uses, meaning a subdivision would require approval from commissioners.

“We are going to be able to save a tremendous amount of money by moving out of Mecklenburg County,” Bartlett said. “The whole purpose all along has just been to get the business moved, and I’m not really looking for a way to further develop [the land] at this point and time.”

Commissioners will vote on the rezoning request at the Aug. 19 meeting.
