Starting in early September, four sections on Steam store pages will be impacted: “About The Game,” “Short Description,” “Any Special Announcement,” and “Awards.” The first new rule is that no links to other websites will be allowed in those sections, including links to social media pages. This is due to the store pages already having specific link fields for common social media platforms or websites. No embedded imagery that mimics Steam store UI or buttons will be allowed either, including ones that look like wishlist buttons, game capsules, or prices. Additionally, no images, links, or widgets that point to other games on Steam will be allowed. It basically means that developers cannot use the store page description to advertise other products on Steam. Steam has implemented other changes recently, such as making it easier for players to search for particular games, as well as making game demos easier to discover.
