Search operation underway to find kayaker missing on the Coorong in South Australia

A desperate search is under way for a missing kayaker who hasn’t been heard from in more than 48 hours.

A man in his 70s set off on a solo kayaking trip on the Coorong, southeast of the Murray Mouth in the Salt Creek on Monday.

The alarm was first raised after the man stopped making “regular contact”.

PolAir and Water Operations Police are assisting with the search.

Authorities are urging anyone who saw the man kayaking in the area to contact the police assistance line on 131 444
