Springfield man arrested after threatening bystanders with loaded firearm

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Springfield man was arrested Saturday morning after threatening to ****** bystanders by a food truck.

According to police, at approximately 4:30 a.m. on August 10, officers arrested 23-year-old Benny Tran of Springfield, at the intersection of East Columbus Avenue and Liberty Street.

The arrest came about 20 minutes after police received a **** call on the 0-100 block of Hampden Street. Witnesses reported that Tran had threatened to ****** bystanders near a food truck. Upon arrival, officers attempted to detain Tran for questioning, but he left on foot.

Tran jumped down a wall on Gridiron Street, leading officers on a brief chase before they apprehended him on East Columbus Avenue. During the arrest, officers found a loaded firearm in Tran’s pants pocket. Tran was subsequently taken into custody.

Tran faces charges of carrying a firearm without a license and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.
